My mother moved into Commonwealth just a week ago. From the moment she arrived, the staff from every department made sure she was met and greeted with friendliness & orientation details to make her feel right at home. Everyone made us feel welcome with support and smiles. She has joined in already with the daily activities and is pleased with the dining menu. We are looking forward to many happy days at Commonwealth.

I always visit Helen Yager (my cousin) every week. I have noticed a couple of weeks ago a young man by the name of Ben. He is super nice and helpful. He is so kind to Helen. She just loves him. I’m so thankful that you have staff that are so loving and caring about their patients that happen to be our loved ones. Thanks Ben for a job well done!

In my 39 years of serving assisted living facilities as an elevator mechanic. I must say that CSL and one other facility are the best I have ever seen from management to retaining associates to the cleanliness inside and out. The care and love given to every resident is second to no other facility. Everyone I have met has always been nice and respectful. My mom and dad came here in the assisted living when dad passed mom was moved to memory care side of the facility. Prior to my dads passed ng he and my mom loved the people and the facility and it’s location the Mountain View’s and the wildlife that they could watch from the window or views on the front porch.

Choosing CSL was the very best decision. My mom was isolated and suffering from dementia and delusions. She had several falls and mystery injuries. Now, in the CSL memory care program, she gets the 24 hour care she deserves. She is involved in weekly field trips, enjoys daily activities like Bingo, and has new friends. She looks forward to the trips to the church because she always returns with a little gift for her apartment. Shes gets both occupational and physical therapy as needed and medication management. When she wants alone time she enjoys her massaging recliner and cable TV in her private apartment. My mom has improved so much in her time at CSL. Shes a much healthier weight due to improved nutrition, her delusions have subsided due to medication management, shes more mobile due to her new walker ( which she loves). The staff are amazing and patient and I am beyond grateful for this facility.

Commonwealth Senior Living is a wonderful place and allows families to put their minds at ease knowing their loved ones are properly cared for. The apartments are spacious, the staff is attentive, the food is great, the activities are daily, and the location is in the beautiful Skyline Drive area. You cant go wrong bringing your loved ones here. Diane will find the perfect room and walk you through the moving process. The medical team (Wendy, Sara and Jennifer, along with many techs) pays attention to the residents needs and provides the best care possible. Amber, and the rest of the staff oversee any and all problems and ensure the residents are happy and feel at home at CSL. Susan and her helpers will keep everyone busy with daily activities and fun adventures. After extensive research and shopping for the perfect place...CSL was the winner and my parents love it here.

I first visited Commonwealth Senior Living Front Royal (CSLFR) about 5-6 years ago with my sister-in-law (now nearly 99 years old) in anticipation of a future home for her. The sense of smell is important and when we walked into the facility, it smelled like home, not an old-age facility as I had found in others. I was immediately impressed with the appearance and cleanliness. She was self sufficient at home and still driving until Dec 31, 2017, when she fell and broke her pelvis. Following a short hospital stay, she was taking to CSLFR for physical therapy. She is still using a walker and her home was not conducive to safe use for her with a walker so she decided to stay at CLSFR for many reasons. Safety and security, 24-hr assistance from a caring staff when needed such as showering, excellent management, three excellent meals and three snacks per day, transportation to local appointments, etc. I have visited CSLFR numerous times and have eaten many meals, which have been excellent and very palatable, especially the soups and variety of deserts. I, and others have found CSLFR to be the absolutely best facility of its kind in the area and Front Royal is lucky to have such a facility. Bob Upchurch

A little over six years ago, I took on the responsibility of caring for my grandmother who suffered from Alzheimers/Dementia. I looked at several different facilities to make the best choice for her - she deserved the best care! I was far more impressed with the staff and facility here at Commonwealth One Assisted Living Facility, once known as The Southerlands than any of the other local facilities. All of the staff genuinely care about the residents and their families. I visit on a regular bases and cant count the number of times Ive walked into overhear them compassionately calming my grandmother or another resident or witnessing their prompt attention tending to a situation of risk to keep the residents safe. There have been situations that I would consider going over and above that shows their love for the residents and their work. One time, when I couldnt get to my grandmother quick, Sara met with my grandmother (on her day off) at the ER to be with her until I could arrive. She text me later and the next day to see how she was and told me to reach out to her cell if I needed anything. Jennifer who has been caring for my grandmother since 2014 has shown my grandma so much love, given me her personal cell, sends me pictures and updates from time-to-time, lets me know when she needs things - a true blessing to my grandmother and I. Amber has been amazing with addressing any needs that have risen, worked with me in times of need and been my rock when feeling weak! There are so many more caregivers/staff that I could go on and on about - I appreciate them all and I know my grandma does too!!! It takes special people to have the patience and dedication to endure this type of environment day in and day out. Its definitely not for everyone. If youre looking for a home-away-from-home for your loved one, you need to come tour this facility and meet the staff! Praying for a cure!!

My mother in assisted living and wife in memory care have been lovingly cared for the last 3 1/2 years. The care level is excellent. Their health is closely monitored by skilled medical professionals. They receive their medicines, get therapy, and regular grooming. Their rooms are cleaned regularly and the meals are well planned, balanced and savory. There are daily activities and regular special family oriented gatherings. I and my entire family are most pleased with the outstanding care my cherished mom and wife are receiving. In a difficult time of choosing a care facility, you can be confident that your loved ones will be lovingly and competently housed in a safe environment. Welcome Home is more than a slogan at Commonwealth. It is the guiding principle of Everyone of the dedicated team awaiting your trust to serve your most precious ones.

My Mother has made CSL her home for the last two years. She loves it there and has made many dear friends. Recently she became ill with the flu and the professional, caring and dedicated staff has taken great care of her. Danielle, Karla and Megan were working the morning she became ill and they were very caring ,knowledgeable and efficient. Jennifer came to the ER to check on Mom and personally got her prescription filled so she could start it right away. This was all done on Jennifer's day off. Kudos! The entire staff has been wonderful - from the front desk to the kitchen. Mom is happy and I'm less stressed knowing she is getting such great care. I'm so glad we chose CLS Front Royal.

when we first brought my grandparents to commonwealth it was a change from living on there own.Jennifer and Melissa made them feel welcome there. They also kept them as independent as possible. There are plenty of activists going on and outings for them to go On. I am so glad we chose Commonwealth for her. The rooms are very big and lots of room for her wheel chair also. I do visit everyday and I just pop in so no one knows when I am coming. They let us come and go as much as we like.

My parents moved into Commonwealth in Feb 2019 during a very chaotic period of their life, my mom's illnesses/hallucinations caused her to be what I call, 'a difficult resident'. I had little experience with a sr. living facility and didn't know what to expect given her condition. From day 1, my parents received attentive and personalized care. They were visited by nurses more than once a day, just to say Hello! My mom was unable to leave the apartment but she was never treated like an outsider by the staff. The apartment was kept very clean, meds were always given, and common areas were always welcoming. None of this has changed, except for the fact that my mom passed away a month ago. When her situation grew worse, it was the Commonwealth nurses (supplemented by hospice) that kept me abreast of any change -- day or night -- via text and calls. The nursing staff also focused on making sure my dad did not get lost in the shuffle, as he had become a prisoner of her illnesses. Now that my mom is gone, I rest easy knowing that my dad is in the best place possible for his care, socialization and overall well being. Jennifer and Sara have been great....but so has every other nurse, technician, activities / therapy staff member. My dad is 91 and Commonwealth is and will continue to be his home. I have no reservations.

Have a family member living at CSL in Front Royal since 2016. Can't praise the caring professional staff enough. In addition to meeting basic needs--like good food and clean safe living quarters, CSL Residents are offered a variety of daily activities aimed at engaging them in the surrounding community. This includes a line up of in-house activities as well as outings to local restaurants and attractions. There is something for everyone. Art classes, theater performances and weekly live music stimulate and entertain. Weekly exercise classes, tailored to each participants ability, keep people moving. Special activities that challenge the mind--like fun puzzles and group discussions of current events keep the community connected. There is a Community Service program where CSL residents undertake charitable projects that "give back" to Front Royal. The facility is clean and well maintained. If a concern is voiced by a resident or family member, it is quickly addressed. The administration welcomes feedback as to how continued improvements can be made. The feeling I get when I visit is that the staff are truly invested in the well-being of the people they care for. It gives me great peace of mind that my loved one lives at CSL.

When we first brought my mother-in-law here she just wanted to go home. It took her about 3 weeks to settle in but now she is okay with being in her new home. She says everyone is so nice to her and they help her get to the table to eat, change her clothes and get her coffee. She says I don't even have to ask them. I am so glad we chose Commonwealth for her. The rooms are very big and lots of room for her wheel chair also. I do visit everyday and I just pop in so no one knows when I am coming. I always find her eating, wandering the halls or sitting covered up watching TV. This place is all but home. I can even tuck her in at night every night. They let us come and go as much as we like.

Our mom arrived at Commonwealth Sr. Living in October, 2016. It was a difficult transition as she had just turned 102, was rehabbing from total hip replacement and had lived her entire life in Cleveland, Ohio. The staff was so very welcoming and attentive. Moms room was spacious and her furniture fit nicely. . . being surrounded her personal belongings helped her settle in. As my moms dementia developed, she moved to the memory care unit. The staff assured that this transition was seamless. Not only did they carry all of the heavy items for us, they did it while Mom was at lunch to avoid the stress/confusion for her if she had been in the room during the move! Moms time in memory care has been handled by wonderful professionals. Her daily care needs are always met. I can stop in or call at any hour and they will take the time to give me an update on Mom. The kitchen staff is always accommodating to menu changes we ask for to encourage Mom to keep eating. The activities director always includes Mom in the different activities, encouraging her to participate and engaging her in conversation. The cleaning staff has a huge challenge to keep such a busy place clean. And yet they do it with a smile. . . and they do it very well! I cannot say enough about the director of nursing, Sara and the assistant director, Jennifer. Any time I have a concern or question, I am able to email them and will receive a prompt answer. My concerns are never dismissed. . . I am always kept in the loop. A few Sundays ago, my mom turned 105 and they had a celebration for her at lunch. The chef made special cupcakes for all the residents in memory care to share in Moms special day. What really touched me was that Sara, Jennifer and Nicole (Moms hospice Rn) came in on their day off to be a part of Moms celebration!! To give up some of the precious little time they have off is an amazing testament to they dedication to their residents. We are so blessed to have found such a wonderful place, where Mom is safe and happy and cared for by loving and compassionate professionals. Thank you is so very inadequate for all they to do for Mom and the peace of mind they give our family.

My mother has been at Commonwealth Senior Living in the memory care unit for 14 months. The transition from home to a memory care unit was hard on all of us, but the staff at Commonwealth made it as seamless as possible, under the circumstances. They were more than kind and loving to both my mother and her family during the move. Amber, Sara and Jennifer helped us all! My mother is happy now and gets lots of love, hugs and support on a daily basis. The meals are delicious and nutritious and yummy snacks are served throughout the day. My mother loves her showers and she is always neat and clean. We are so grateful for Commonwealth. ??????

I highly recommend CSL. Our family member was admitted in August and I can’t express the gratitude we have for all of the staff ,making it go so smoothly. Angie, the head of nursing has gone above and beyond her job description to make sure she’s there for anything we need. I’ve witnessed her staying late (9pm) after working all day because a resident wasn’t doing well. Every staff Member who we have interacted with has been friendly and willing to help when needed. I know we made the best decision choosing CSL to care for our loved one. It’s so reassuring knowing he is safe and receiving great care but most Importantly, he is thriving & happy.

Excellent facility with professional caring staff. My Mom loved it here, but wanted to be closer to family. She lived at Commonwealth for a few years, then spent a couple years in other facilities in VA. After the last facility experience that was not as well run, we moved Mom back to Commonwealth at Front Royal to get the care she needed with the dignity she deserves. Commonwealth at Front Royal is a very well run facility with very caring, courteous staff! I cant say enough about them!! They were so helpful to make Moms move back home seamless. Top notice! I would give them 10 stars if I could! Elderly people often do not like the food, because its not how they would have cooked it. Its hard to please everyones personal tastes In a large facility. They do a good job offering alternate menu choices. I personally find the food to be very good. I have eaten there many times. I have found elderly people complain about the food at every facility that she has been at. Ive certainly had much worse food at other facilities. At commonwealth they try their best to make the food cooked to each persons personal preferences and make it appealing. The residents are waited on in the dining room just like a nice restaurant and cared for professionally. They are treated like family. Sometimes you dont realize what you have until you have something of lesser quality to compare it to. We have done that and it would be hard to find a better facility than Commonwealth at Front Royal!

Commonwealth has been taking care of my Mom for 2 years. It has been an awesome experience! They are very caring and considerate. There were a few occasions when my Mom needed assistance and they called me right away and took care of her when I was not there. Mom is normally very independent but everyone needs help at times. They always went above and beyond! Great staff, great service and I highly recommend for anyone looking for a top notch assisted living apartment style living or needing more care in a single room. They offer memory care also although I personally have no experience with that service. Very professional and offers services to grow with changing care needs! Residents and staff are like family. Very community oriented.
