Moving my parent to Poets Walk was not an easy consideration. My choice however turned out to be a great one in that I had to learn “on the fly” for what items to look for. • The admissions and move-in was well coordinated • Management is caring and attentive. • The assistant executive director is such a great value to the facility in addressing concerns. She has been so attentive with any concern that I have had reguarding my parent. • Facility is clean and well organized • The care and activity staff are always very helpful and caring; even though the work can be very difficult. • The medical staff is always professional and courteous. They make experienced trustworthy medical decisions to make sure that the residents get the best care for their need. The above review is based on my parent being a resident for three months. During that time, my parent was wrought with other significant health challanges. The Poets Walk staff was there all throughout the ordeal.

My father was part of the Poet’s Walk community for just over a month before he passed away recently. The team at Poet’s Walk were very compassionate and treated my father who had dementia with dignity and respect. I cannot say enough positive comments about the people that work here, they really care and frequently go out of their way to be helpful. They not only treated my father well, they treated my family well also. I will always be grateful for my fathers time here at Poet’s Walk. Russ H.

We have been part of the Poet’s Walk family for two months now and are very happy to have found it. My sister and I were quite concerned with how our mother would react to being moved from her home into a memory facility. She had a very set routine at home and had quiet days without much interaction with others. Well the move could not have gone any better! On the first day most staff members came by her room to introduce themselves and to welcome her. They even gave her welcoming gifts! A few staff were then assigned to her for the first week to provide her with some familiar faces regularly and to ensure she was adjusting well. After the first week I was given an update that “your mother is not just adjusting well, she is thriving!” I saw for myself how true this was. So many activities and social events are offered at Poet’s Walk daily. At first my mother needed some encouragement to attend but after the first few days she began to seek activities out on her own. She now attends almost every activity and is rarely in her own room. Even between activities she often prefers just hanging out on Main Street with the other residents and socializing. My mom is happier now and more involved in life then she was at home. This has eased our concerns and makes us very happy to see her so happy. Thank you Poet’s Walk staff for the wonderful work that you do taking care of our mother and for the nurturing environment you provide!

Very welcoming and the ladies at the front desk were very helpful and accommodating and kept me pointed in the right direction. Michelle the director answered all my questions and made sure that our family member was welcomed. Wanted to give a big thank you to Karen and the crew that helped with transitioning our family remember to Poets Walk. They showed the patience that was needed and provided the atmosphere for not only our family member to feel welcomed but also myself. Very grateful to how you handled everything. Thank you.

We had an excellent experience working with Nancy. She was very friendly, professional and helpful to us as we were moving our mother to Poets Walk. The transition from her former ALF went very smoothly, and Nancy and the other Poets Walk staff we worked with were great! Ham H.

My dad just transitioned into Poets Walk. Maria and Nancy were very helpful and always available to help answer any questions we had throughout the move in process- this was extremely comforting. We are looking forward to him living at Poets Walk and being closer!

I had been caring for my wife for 10 years. Over the years her dementia began to worsen. I spent my days as a full time caregiver who was constantly being questioned and accused of something. This became very stressful and depressing. I couldnt bare the thought of moving my wife of 59 years into a community. But my doctor and my daughter convinced me that there was no other option. I looked at five communities with my daughter and we both agreed on Poets Walk. We really liked that the community specialized in dementia. The personnel made us feel so comfortable and was so responsive to all of our questions. The community design, 24 hour nursing coverage and doctor routinely visiting assisted us to make our decision. It took a year to move forward with the move. I am very happy that I did. I get a lot more sleep at night knowing that my wife is safe, happy and engaged. This was by far the most dreadful decision that I ever had to make, but the outcome is the best that it can be at Poets Walk. I wanted my life to be living and not to be existing. I feel that she is doing that now.

I have worked in long term care for over 30 years. I wish I had transitioned to memory care eariler. The staff and management care deeply for all the residents and make it so easy to work here. The knowlege and compassion for thse resident who suffer from Dementia is phenomenal. I have been missing this kind of compassion shown towards residents and families.Poets walk is the best place to work and if I ever need to reccomend a place this would be it. Not every day is perfect but every day is kindness and compassion.

The past several months has been one of the hardest experiences of my life as I had to help make the decision to put a loved one into a memory care facility. Maria Seaton was very patient, understanding, kind, welcoming, and made us feel comfortable throughout the entire process. She answered all our questions and made us feel confident we made the right choice by placing her at Poets Walk. She made us feel like we were cared about. Its been an emotional roller coaster but we are pleased with the community and have had nothing but positive experiences from everyone we have met so far. I want to also acknowledge Nancy Coleman. She went above and beyond to make sure we had no questions left unanswered and performed miracles. We couldnt have done it without both of these women. They make you feel as though youre a part of a family. They check in as we visit our loved one and make us feel welcome and knowing everyone there has experience with memory care and family members also with the same things makes us feel better. Tabitha, one of the caregivers wonderful to my family member. I just love these people! Thanks for all you do. We appreciate the care you give and the dedication.

My parents are both suffering from dementia and live at Poets Walk in Fredericksburg. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the staff at this facility. Since the first day we walked through the door and met Nancy Coleman, my family felt relief that someone understood what we were dealing with. After 3 moves in one year, my parents are finally in the right place. To this day, when I walk in to visit, Nancy gets up from her desk, says hello, hugs me, asks how *I* am (and then how my parents are). She helps me laugh when I want to cry. My dad had a broken hip just before moving in, and we had to wait a while to get him moved. I live 45 miles away, and the day he was discharged from rehab to be moved to Poets Walk, I could not get there. Nancy handled his transportation for me and got him settled. She has been a godsend. I also want to give a shout out to Karen and the nursing staff, to Traci at the front desk, and to Valerie Hopson-Bell, who works tirelessly for the well-being and daily needs of my parents. We appreciate your dedication.

Poets Walk- My sister and I knew the moment we went inside that was the place our mom needed to be. From the moment we met Nancy and she took us on a tour without an appointment. Dont get me wrong the first night we left her there we had our reservations of did we do the right thing. But in our heart of hearts we knew that we did. The staff at Poets Walk were all so nice. Even though our mom was only there for two and half months she had gotten to a point that even she thought of it as home. It was a hard decision to make putting our mom into an Assisted Living facility but I wouldnt change a thing I would do it again.

I cannot say enough good things about Poets Walk. Everyone was so very thoughtful, helpful and kind. They made the whole process of bringing my husband into Poets Walk as easy as possible. They showed genuine concern and helped in so many big and little ways. Sadly my husband could not surmount complications from Parkinsons and had to be put into hospice...which meant there was no change in environment. He was in his same room with all his things around him, and I got to spend every day with him until he passed. Not only was his care exceptional, they were also concerned about me and asked if they could bring me lunch, drinks, desserts and snacks. Their support of both my husband and myself was heartfelt and loving at all times. I could not have asked for a better last memory for either of us.

My husband recently passed while living at Poets Walk. His medical issues were very extensive and complicated during his six months of residency but throughout his stay the caring staff made numerous adjustments and worked very closely with the family to try to ensure his safety and happiness. Everyone we worked with from senior management staff to his daily care partners including nurses and dining staff did everything they could to understand and meet his needs. The family is very grateful for the help Poets Walk gave on this last journey.

My wife has been In Poets Walk for seven months. She is a dementia patient and is bound to a wheelchair, unable to feed herself. Having been in another facility where her care fell short of her needs, I searched the local area to find a facility that I thought could provide the care she needed. That led me to Poets Walk which has turned out to be the right choice. From the moment that my family and I toured the Poets Walk facility, seeing the staff at work with the patients, I was left with a feeling that they knew what they were doing and the level of care that my wife needed would be available. The staff works well with each other; each residence is assigned to a specific Care Partner. They assist each other as necessary for the proper care of each resident. In watching the care partners at work, most really show care for the residence. The building was thoughtfully designed. There are two U-shaped wings for the residents rooms with a dining room for each wing. Each wing is connected to a central area that is called the Main Street. From the Main Street area there is an outside courtyard that allows the residents to enjoy being outside on nice days, surrounded and protected by the surrounding building. My wife and I often sit outside in the courtyard and enjoy being outside among the flowers, many of which are taken care of by the residence that have that ability. The Main Street area allows the residents to gather and enjoy the many programs that are designed for their abilities and pleasure. On my daily visits to my wife, I often watch them play games of different types and see the enjoyment they get from the entertainment often provided. Although my wife is unable to participate, she does enjoy watching the activities. My wife and I eat together daily at lunch. I really enjoy feeding her and look forward to our time together. She eats breakfast and dinner with the assistance of a care partner. The food is good and might be considered excellent for this type of facility. It has improved considerably over the past few months. Organization in the dining room has gotten better but patients is required by all as the staff must assist the residence to get to the dining rooms and then sort out the correct type of food for each resident. This all takes time sometimes causing a wait to eaoets Walk is well managed. I see and talk to the different section directors, almost on a daily basis. They are always open to suggestions and strive to find a better way to do things, evidenced by the changes that have take place, always to the betterIs Poets Walk perfect? Of course not but I can say with confidence that management is working on getting there.

Having to place a loved one in Memory Care is the toughest decisions one has to make. Being the only family member, that is, no one else to assist in caring for my wife, no kids, makes it even that much more difficult after 30 years of marriage, combined with recent events, has made it even more of a challenge. My wife has been at Poets Walk for about 1 1-2 years now. I visited daily, up until 2 months ago of course, and was able to observe first hand the caring attitude, cleanliness, well trained staff in working with those with dementia. I feel good about my choice of placing her there, and highly recommend it. The food is great. Activities, everything to keep my loved one occupied especially during this time when Im unable to spend 5-6 hours a day with her like I used to, makes me feel much better about it. It doesnt get easier, nothing will, but you can count on the staff at Poets Walk to help set your mind at ease.

I have had the pleasure of touring Poets Walk Fredericksburg and attending some of their Alzheimers events. The community is beautiful and staff interact with the residents so well. Caregiving isnt easy when caring for a person living with dementia. But the staff here do an amazing job interacting and making their daily lives better.

I highly recommend this facility to any one considering placing a loved one. My father agonized over putting his wife, my step-mother in a home. After checking all the facilities in this area Poets Walk was the perfect fit. We could not be any happier with the love and care they give our family member. We now consider the staff at Poets Walk our own family. My step-mother feels so loved and secure there and could not be happier. We never could have imagined we would find a place where she would get such exceptional care. The hardest thing a person can ever do is make this decision. However, it was the best decision we ever made for us and our precious loved one.

My father was a resident of Poets Walk Fredericksburg for six months. We were very pleased with the staff. The managers are very accessible and caregivers(partners) are all very courteous and welcoming. The facility has a very homey feeling which helps both your LO as well as you when visiting. The Activities Staff are very energetic, provide a nice variety of activities - music, art, exercise, ice cream day. You will see a wide range of residents, those that are up and about and can somewhat converse with you, as well as those that are wheelchair bound and in the later stages. All residents are always dressed and clean. When your loved one is placed, you must remember that you need to be their voice. Speak up when you have questions or any concerns or new needs. Getting adjusted to the facility takes a little time, but the staff at Poets was always willing to discuss our concerns-questions and was very good at keeping us informed of any new behaviors, as well as offering up suggestions on ways to handle new issues with our father. You also need to remember that although the care is good it is not one-on-one care. A bit of patience and understanding is needed in this aspect because the fact is that no matter what facility you are at the caregivers are many times stretched to the limit and doing the best they can to quickly assist you LO.A great feature of Poets is an on staff social worker. Valerie has many years of experience working with families and residents with dementia. She holds a monthly support group-social gathering and a separate specific one for spouses. She is great at talking with both residents and family membersI know that deciding to place you LO, and then choosing the right facility, is probably one of the hardest things you will do in life, but I can honestly say that the staff at Poets made the process a tiny bit easier and was always their to help us through anytime we needed. Prayers and best wishes for anyone who is walking this journey.

We are extremely pleased with the support provided by the staff at Poets Walk. We had to move my mother in over the weekend and the staff proved highly efficient and very caring. Ms. Seaton was truly concerned with every detail; from helping us with the paperwork to ensuring her room was ready and the staff prepared. We highly recommend Poets Walk.

My father is a new resident at Poets Walk and transitioning a loved one into a memory care community is never easy, especially when doing so from across the country. From my very first phone conversation with Nancy and other staff members, I immediately felt at ease and felt comfort in knowing that we were making the right decision and that my father would be welcomed with love and care. Since my father arrived, he has been participating in activities he hasnt done in decades and he has been making new friends, which is a blessing. Thank you Poets Walk for helping my family with this transition.

My wife moved to Poets Walk a August 2018. Prior to the move to assisted living, memory care she had been diagnosed with Alzheimers about ten years ago. Over the years her condition became worse year after year. We visited a number of the best Alzheimers hospitals and neurologists in the nation. They were all helpful in providing input and diagnosis and suggesting help for the care giver but frankly they provided minimal support to the patient-victim. In fact, the medications they assigned made no improvements that we could see and some provided side effects that were very troubling. For several years we had in home care and we had the help of about seven or eight care givers, most of whom seemed capable and professional to me but my wife had issues with all of them and they were all dismissed after a few months. Things did not improve after their dismissal as the new care giver. Over time she became very angry on a daily basis with me and this was followed up with a level of deep depression that I had never observed. We went on to searching for a medical group or hospital or neurologist who might at least address the depression but that did not happen and things got worse. On the suggestion of various doctors we visited a variety of assisted living-memory care facilities. To me, they all looked good but I had little confidence in my judgement. With the input of some of the doctors and care givers and based on my meetings with Poets Walk I decided that this was the best place for my wifeIn August of 2018 my wife moved in and those were the worst days of my life. Not because of Poets Walk but because of my concern for her and the reality that nothing of significant improvement would be provided in a week, month, or maybe months we suffered as a family with some depression of our own.I dont know when it happened because I was so depressed and concerned about my wifes depression and the gradual decline in memory and other neural skills that I overlooked the change in my wifes depression which was gradually declining. When I finally came to the reality that my wife was moving from a tragic life of depression, sadness and anger I was awed by her change in her life that went from sadness to some joy and following that a gradual improvement to a life of general happiness and enthusiasm over her situation at Poets WalkThere are still the impediments that come with Alzheimers but there is laughter and joy with me and her friends, some of which I am not sure she really members but there must be some recognition because the meetings are much based on some reality that these are people that she recalls to some degree and they still love each other. This, her change from mortal depression to good humor is why I am so happy we brought her to Poets Walk and why we continue to believe that it is the best care a patient of family could hope foBettsy and Mike

I greatly enjoy working for a company that is so innovative in senior care. Its also rewarding to work for a for profit company that reinvests their profit into the community and most of all the residents. Memory care is my passion and I so enjoy making a difference in the lives of associates, residents and families.

I chose Poets Walk for my husband three years ago and I couldnt be happier . Before moving to Poets Walk my husband was at another community that wasnt a good fit. I felt so disappointed that I had to search for another community after making a decision to place him at what I thought was the best place for him.So with great hesitation I started my search again and discovered Poets Walk. When you walk into the community you are met by the concierge and theyre so welcoming, helpful and always smiling. Once you walk inside the community its so full of life. I greatly enjoy all of the activities that are offered and how the staff interact with the residents. The staff are helpful, friendly and always responsive to my questions or concerns. Administration is always open to any concerns that I may have and seeking ways to make community life better for the residents, families and staff. The open communication is greatly appreciated and Im glad that my husband feels at home and I greatly enjoy visiting him.
