We recently helped my mother transition into this senior living community, and I can honestly say the experience has been wonderful from the start. We looked at several different places before making this decision, but none of them made us feel as welcomed and comfortable as Heather and her team did. Heather has been incredibly supportive throughout the entire process. Moving a loved one into a new community can be overwhelming, but she helped guide us every step of the way and made the transition so much easier for both my mother and our family. The kindness, patience, and genuine care we felt from everyone gave us peace of mind and reassured us that we were making the right choice. We’re truly appreciative of everything this team has done and grateful to have found a community that feels warm, caring, and supportive.

Our mother will be moving into memory care (Sweet Memories) this month. There are a lot of steps, questions and big feelings during this process. Commonwealth Senior Living has given my dear one a caring, kind, and professional life. She is 95 1/2 now and has been in several other places in the area, including hospitalization and a rehab facility. Searching for the perfect place for her seemed impossible until we found Commonwealth. Every employee has opened hearts and arms to help care for her in all the best ways. Her meals have been prepared to her own tastes, the nurses are always on the spot with replies to her calls, the nursing care is very professional and always appropriate for her needs. Housekeeping is so very thorough and kind. The maintenance crew is talented and helpful, solving problems and repairing all manner of things. I enjoy coming to Commonwealth to be with my dear one and I am there every morning. Special shout outs and grateful applause to Heather, Lina, Kearstyn, Raven Desarae, Mandy, LaDonna, Susan, Franz, Theresa, Kim, and Austin- everyone on the medical/nursing teams that patiently care for her. Thank you for providing her a caring experience as she expects to live out her life with her Commonwealth care folks. You have become like our family. From my grateful heart to each one of you at Commonwealth Senior Living. In addition to my comments above, I must relay the value of the total experience my loved one experiences at Commonwealth. When we arrived at Commonwealth, she had fallen at home, spent time in a hospital for a head injury and a broken arm, and then to a rehab facility. She had no idea where she was, was in awful pain, and was in the bed most of the time. After some time and therapy there, we moved to Commonwealth. The therapy team at Commonwealth is an integral part to her recovery and ability to function today, Along with the entire Commonwealth team, the PT crew has set goals and assisted her with walking, moving about safely, and tending to her fragile state. She depends on her therapy to be stronger and more mobile. I close my review with a huge thank you, as I am in your debt for all you do, as each person at Commonwealth has made a difference in the life of an elderly woman and helps her to live safely and comfortable in her home there. I appreciate each of you so much. Sending love and hugs to all.

I had my Mother there for nearly eight years. After Her passing, when the room was cleaned out and returned to the facility I advised them We were through, there was an oxygen machine (rented) left. I said I would notify the company for pick-up. The front desk said no they would take care of notification. Two months later I was billed for the machine (a rather large bill) After complaining to the home office, I was called and said the item was found, it was returned to the company. Upon talking to the rental company they advised it was not (by serial number) the one assigned to my mother, but they would accept it. A few years later I was appointed power of attorney for a cousin who was admitted there in the memory care unit. She was there a while and needed a wheelchair, one was rented a few months and the rental was such I bought her a wheelchair to save on cost. I had her name on the chair in three places in permanent ink, One place was on the back in large letters. The metal work was colored blue. After her passing upon clearing her room, the wheelchair could not be found by the staff. This was a light weight chair. A couple days later I was notified the chair was found. When going there to pick up the chair, I was given an older black chair with one of the leg side pieces missing(not the one I purchased). A few months before while there for a visit I was given two pieces of mail, one was an overdue Dr .Bill and the other was a small check that had been held so long it could not be cashed. I was upset about this and the person in charge said they do not forward mail I ask why not a phone call advising of mail that I could pick up on my next visit and was told it was the familys responsibility to check on that. A call was never a problem if they wanted something. I always sent my payments in as soon as I was billed. One month I was double billed, the bill showed I had not paid the month before, I called to see what the problem was and in a few minutes I was told the check was found laying on the desk from the previous month.

My SIL has been in memory care centers in VA and Colorado. She is now in her 4th facility since Jan 2021 so I consider myself a pretty good judge of how assisted living facilities should operate. Commonwealth Senior Living - Christiansburg is a GODSEND! Needless to say, I was beyond exhausted after we transferred Rita from Denver to VA - she has advanced vascular dementia. Savannah in marketing, the medical staff, and the business staff helped us quickly get her evaluated and admitted. The housekeeping and maintenance staff bent over backwards to set up her room so that she would feel at home. Because of the wonderful, caring attitude that the whole nursing/food service staff displays, Rita acclimated much quicker than expected. After visiting CSL- Cburg frequently these past 2 months, my first impression still holds true. If you are in need of an assisted living or memory care center, I highly recommend CSL - Christiansburg!

Visited a High School Classmate and friend there yesterday. She has an amazing Studio room there. Well laid out. I hope when I am ready to move to an assisted living complex that I can find something as nice and appealing as Commonwealth is. It has a nice multi purpose room with library, game table, piano, comfy seating, with a glass wall on one end for looking outside. A nice dining area with reception area. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Look forward to visiting again! Don M

Our client began this facility on a Friday. "What were we thinking" we thought. This facility stepped up and stepped in. Allowed us to assist our friend like normal to make him comfortable. When seeking a facility for my mom, I took a tour of CSL in Christiansburg. A few weeks later, I brought my mom in for a tour. Throughout the process, I was extremely impressed by Savannah Sewell, sales coordinator. She's a very pleasant young lady. Her communication with us was outstanding. Ultimately, my mother chose a different facility, for now. In the future, i would not hesitate to have my mom live there. All the staff were friendly and the few residents I saw, looked happy to be there. The facility could use some updates, such as replacing the old pool in the basement with something more useful.

my mom moved there from another facility in the area and has been overjoyed by interactions with residents and staff and continuously mentions that she would've come there sooner if possible. i can personally attest to the care and attentiveness of the staff, particularly lina and savannah in my case, who have been essential in helping my mom transition into the facility, as well help me navigate the process for the first time. oh and my mom always mentions how much she likes the food and activities!

Our family couldn't be more happy with Commonwealth Senior Living in Christiansburg. We moved my 88 y/o father there after a stroke left him unable to care for himself independently. This was the best decision we could've made. His apartment is modern, spacious, and comfortable, the food is great, and there are so many activities, both on and off property, for anyone interested in participating. The nursing and care team are wonderful. They spend time with Dad, not only caring for his needs, but engaging him in conversation. He really loves them. They have in house physical therapy and a dedicated Nurse Practitioner who visits throughout the week and coordinates with the nursing staff at Commonwealth, as well as any external medical professionals who provide services for Dad. They take care of everything and this gives us such peace of mind, and allows us to focus on quality family time.

Visited my mom on Sunday, she had not been assisted in changing her depends for hours and she was soaked as well as the recliner pads as she had been sitting reclined during the morning. Someone arrived after I used the call button. We changed my mom and her clothes. It takes a minimum of 2 people to get her up and changed safely. I didn’t see much of a staff that day, but I know u have several patients that need assistance every 2-3 hours ( your contract and verbal agreement upon entry ) . Saw a few sitting in a darkened dinning room playing on their phone- guess they were on break. The cleaning staff is much improved and extremely hard working. They work hard and it shows. Moms roommate complains someone is stealing her drinks” iDK ™- she says this every month when she runs out .

My wife, Jo, was totally bed fast until her death on November 11. Lee Ann was most helpful to me in her encouraging words in my bereavement. My Uncle’s laundry, clean clothes, was thrown in the floor in the laundry room. Why wasn’t it taken back to his room and hung up? He had no t-shirts in his drawer. I finally came up with 2 on a shelf in his closet. I just bought 12 for him. Since I pay 80.00 to get his laundry done I am not happy with it.

A big THANK YOU to the hard working staff at CSL, especially Earnie, Michelle, Deanna, Hannah and Leanne. My aunt has been in the Memory Care unit since June 2019, and has received excellent care. Although, there have been many staff changes, including people in the business offices ( which has been a little unsettling), it is good to know I can still call and talk to someone who knows my aunt's history and can help me navigate the best care for her. In " today's world" , it is hard to find caring people to take pride in the work they do, (especially in this type of setting). I hope the Commonwealth Senior Living Corporation knows how valuable these staff members are to the families they serve. It is said that " it takes a village to raise a child", but I feel the same can be said for caring for an elderly loved one. This is one amazing place! From the very first day the staff, at Commonwealth Senior Living in Christiansburg, became part of my dad's family. Their dedication and genuine concern for his health and well being is apparent on a daily basis. The entire staff have gone out of their way to make sure my dad is comfortable and happy. My dad says he feels like they know him. He calls the CNAs "his gals" and looks forward to his chats with the executive director who makes herself available whenever he needs to talk. The nursing staff has been exemplary. They are in tune with his needs and have been on top of things as his level of care has changed. Excellent at communicating with me, they have taken so much off my plate. Now I can be his daughter and not his care giver.

We feel so fortunate to have found such a wonderful facility for my 98 year old mom. It has made such a difference in the quality of her life. She is happy, enjoys interacting with other residents and has gone on trips with them. I feel like my mom is back! Thank you to the wonderful staff who look after her.
