I cannot say enough positive things about my and my mother’s experience at Sunrise Mt Vernon. My mother and I were in a very difficult situation with her late stage dementia. I was so stressed at that point. The people at Sunrise were absolutely above and beyond. John KNestrick, director of Sales moved mountains to get my mother into their memory care unit. He worked overtime, answered calls on his days off, and truly saved me from imploding as her only caretaker. The staff in the memory care unit were amazing. They actually truly cared. All of them have worked there for many years which tells you something. Special shout out to Esther one of my mother’s caretakers and Valerie the activities director. They both took compassionate care of my mother and me. People may think it is a lot of money and it is, but it was worth every penny. Constant care, kindness, with clean well taken care of facility that doesn’t feel like a facility. I would recommend them to anyone needing a memory care unit. I never worried about my mother when I went home. The staff be comes family. Thank you all for carrying both of us through such a hard time. I wish we had come earlier. The residents keep their dignity. There were many activities and lots of engagement from the staff. No one sitting in a corner forgotten about ever. I am truly grateful. Let these wonderful people be a part of your lives.

I highly recommend Sunrise at Mount Vernon. My Mom has been here for two years now, after moving her from another facility. Sunrise staff members and healthcare providers are friendly, professional, and caring, and they take a personal interest in each and every resident. Their enthusiasm for their work is infectious among the residents. There are all kinds of activities, events, entertainment, and outings that bring many of the residents together in which they really seem to enjoy themselves, and project a sense of comradery amongst each other. The meals and Sunday brunches are great, and the facility itself is always clean, well-decorated, and displays a very homelike feeling. Sunrise at Mount Vernon truly projects a positive community environment. Trying to find the right place for your loved one? I recommend asking for a tour from Sadia or Matthew.

Great caring staff. Activities abundant to keep residents interactive. Wellness Office monitors residents health and advises when issues arise. Monthly wellness calls to discuss residents health are very welcome. Dietary concerns monitored and adjusted to the residents needs. The entire residence is well maintained and clean. Sunrise at Mount Vernon did an outstanding job caring for my mother during her final year of life. She lived there from December 21, 2022 through January 10, 2024. The staff was very responsive to my mother's needs, and the quality and variety of activities available to Sunrise residents is top notch. All the staff were professional, competent, service oriented, friendly, and a pleasure to interact with. After my mother died Sunrise staff were extremely supportive and helpful to me with taking care of all necessary business. The staff at Sunrise at Mount Vernon are the most skilled and compassionate professionals our family has encountered while caring for my mother with dementia and Alzheimer’s. Today I want to take the time to say thank you. Thank you to the Sunrise at Mount Vernon staff who has been caring for my mother with advanced Alzheimer’s since January. From the moment I walked in it felt like home “ the leadership team is visible, approachable, responsive, and involved in every aspect of the community; the concierge desk personnel is personable and always welcoming; the clinical team is knowledgeable and communication is always accurate and timely. I have witnessed the care team support not only my mother, but all residents, with the patience, love, and care one would provide a family member. They exude joy and positivity and create the best environment possible for the residents. The care staff goes above and beyond to preserve the dignity of residents and celebrate what makes them special. An example of this is the custom made shadow boxes displayed outside every room with that resident’s background, interests, and picture. Oprah was so impressed with this facility and its staff that she gifted each staff member with all of her favorite things last year. My family has experience with three other memory care facilities and The Sunrise at Mt. Vernon has lived up to its reputation. I recently placed my mother at Sunrise for a respite period of 30 days while I was on travel. Sadia Ali and the team at Sunrise Mount Vernon have gone out of their way to make my mother feel welcome and secure. Everyone there has been extremely friendly and helpful. The team responds to requests in a timely manner and go out of their way to make sure that my mothers needs are met. We are looking into a future long term stay with Sunrise at Mount Vernon. My mother is very happy there.

Review of Sunrise Assisted Living at Mt. Vernon After undergoing surgery and 4 weeks of intensive rehabilitation at INOVA Mt. Vernon hospital, I and my wife needed to find new living quarters. We had lived in a 3 story townhouse for 30+ years but could no longer climb the stairs or do the typical homeowners’ maintenance. We saw this Sunrise facility from the hospital and took a tour. It supplied everything we wanted. Our two bedroom apartment is not spacious, but we learned to furnish it only with the things that we really wanted (married 56 years, you accumulate a lot of junk). The staff is very responsive to your requests. Any maintenance issues are dealt with promptly. The on-site medical personnel are there when you need them. We receive monthly visits from a podiatrist and a hairdresser, and once a month the Sunrise bus takes residents shopping. The meals are quite good. Some entrees are chicken quesadillas, cornbread crusted fish, baked honey ham and chicken fettuccine. Besides the main entrees that change every meal, there are many options such as sandwiches, salads, soups. The facility is well maintained. Inside, light bulbs are changed as soon as they go out; hallway carpeting is shampooed frequently; scuffed trim is repainted constantly (it can take a beating from the many wheelchairs). Outside, the grounds are kept trimmed and weeded, and the planting of flowering shrubs and bushes is very appealing. There are 4 to 5 activities each day: Bingo (of course), a bridge club, weekly visits from an animal service companion and its handler, lectures on Museum of Modern Art, seated yoga, ceramics, flower arranging - to name a few. We are very happy here. The other residents are friendly and of interesting and varied backgrounds. There's rarely a dull day here at Sunrise at Mount Vernon. Bill Cowdrey

I was really impressed with this facility. It has a warm welcoming environment. My mother has been settling in for 3 weeks now. Any issues we had were quickly resolved and I believe she is going to be happy there. My mom tells me the food is really good but most importantly I can tell that the staff members have the right dispositions do this very difficult job. I know my mother is in good hands and when things open up more, I know I'll enjoy spending more time with her there myself. I love that they have a gentle dog in the facility and the residents can pet it and get some tail wags. There are plenty of beautiful and comfortable alcoves to relax in and my mother's favorite places are the outdoor patio and balcony. Her room is clean and comfortable and they do a great job keeping it that way. So far, I am very happy with my choice and so is my mother.

Transitioning my mom away from living with my dad (her husband for over fifty years) was going to break my heart but I knew it had to be done. We looked at all the options and making the decision to Mount Vernon Sunrise Senior Living - memory care became our best choice. The staff has been amazing, so warm and friendly and treated my mom with the utmost respect. It has been amazing to see the positive changes in my mom. For months she would not come out of her bedroom, hardly ate or drank and was wasting away. Within a week she was eating, drinking, participating in memory activities and her conversations with us became even more animated. Alzheimer’s may have changed my mom but we feel with the support from the sunrise team she is getting exactly what she needs.

It has been a huge adjustment for my Aunt who was living alone and doing for herself. Due to sudden physical health issues, she decided to live in an assisted living and selected Sunrise of Mt. Vernon in Alexandria, Va.The staff are friendly, helpful and understanding of her needs. She moved in at the time when Covid restrictions were in full force. Her not able to see her family, and alone in a strange place was hard, but now that we r hopefully coming out of all the restrictions, she will be able to enjoy all that Mt..Vernon has to offer. She has personal care attendants now, that she likes and who I think likes her, and they understand that she likes things the way she is used to having them done. Staff r supporting with those needs. Thank you Mt. Vernon Staff for your continual support to my aunt. She is my 'GEM'!

My relative has been in two different Sunrise facilities and in both we found that the care staff seemed overworked (not sufficient aides to handle the work load) and somewhat under trained. Often a "call button" went for a very long time before receiving a response, which in the case of a real emergency such as a fall or allergic reaction could have a serious consequences..
