I started my job here as a caregiver in April 2020. I enjoy coming to work everyday. I love to serve the residents at this capacity. We have a great team of people who believe resident care comes 1st. I love my job and take care of the residents as if they were my family. It's a calling and an honor to serve the elderly!

We are on our 5th day without hot water and this is typical for this facility. The facility is first class but going down rapidly due to incompetent maintenance. I live here with my wife who has Alzheimer's and I plan to stay but do not recommend it. Looks are deceiving.

Without hot water going on our 5th day. This is typical for this place. This facility is like any other assisted living facility in that they offer service levels that meet minimum state laws but charge premium $$$. I'm here with my wife who has Alzheimer's and I plan to stay but would not recommend it to anyone else.

We had to find a home for my 78yo Grandma. It's never an easy process to have to make these kinds of decisions. But Shavano did their best to help us get her in asap, as we were on a stressful timeline. They have been amazing at giving her the 24/7 care she needs. I don't know how the staff does this for a living. It's a very hard job!! We could not give her that kind of care at home, no one can. It takes so many people and patients. I am so grateful we found Shavano and all the staff in memory care. Anna has been the best! She knows these patients like the back of her hand, treats them like her own, and loves her job! Which shows! We have so much weight lifted off our shoulders knowing she is in good care. Thank you Shavano!

Serena was awesome when she helped me with my search for an assisted living center for my parents. She was very informative, but yet not pushy. She educated me on different options available to my parents while not trying to sway me in any direction. She provided me with a virtual tour of the available apartments and was quick to respond when I emailed her with additional questions. While our family has decided to try to keep my parents at home for a bit longer, you can guarantee Serena will be the first person I call if-when we decide assisted living is the right place and time for my parents. I would highly recommend a friend or family member to give her a call if they are in need of assistance for their family members. And again, Serena is AWESOME! Regards and thank you, Serena!

Our 91 yr old Mom moved to Shavano Park Senior Living six weeks ago after experiencing a fall in her condo. All of the staff here has been so caring, patient, and helpful with her that I can not say enough good things about them! Two weeks ago we had to send her to a Rehab Hospital. We looked at other options for her when being released from rehab but everything considered we decided it would be in her best interest to return to Shavano Park AL. The head nurse , Diane Shehane, has been instrumental in helping us every step of the way and has handled every detail for us in this difficult time. Diane is so caring and passionate about her work, her resident patients, and their families. We know we made the correct choice for Mom in her twilight years of life.

My mother recently fell ill and needed to move into an assisted living facility. I was lucky enough to have some clients that already had their father staying at Shavano Park. We moved in over 7 months ago and the care and service from the Executive director Jack , head nurse Lindsey, and all the staff has been amazing. The restaurant is world class. My mother loves to go to lunch and dinner to meet with her friends each day. Her room is always clean clean and organized. Jack and Lindsey are always available for consultation. I am a very demanding customer. I care deeply about my mother. I am so glad I found this place. I highly recommend you speak with Jack prior to choosing any place for your loved ones. They have taken great care of my mother and allowed me to relax a bit. I know they have my mom's best interests at heart. Nothing is ever going to go completely perfect . The key is do the people react to the situation and resolve the issue. Jack and Lindsey are those type of people. I am not a big review writer, yet I feel so strongly about how great Shavano Park is I want everyone else who may be considering an assisted living facility for their parents to know Shavano Park is top notch. Thanks you so much for helping me care for my mother! Take care, Dave

We first visited SPSL sometime in late 2015, before they opened, and knew that when the time came, it was where we wanted our parents to be. We moved them into SPSL in January of 2017. They had absolutely no intention of leaving their home. In fact my father was adamant that he wanted to die at home. At the time, it was the house they built in 1966 in Hollywood Park. We explained to dad that mom really needed to be in an assisted living facility because her Alzheimer's was progressing to the point that it was no longer safe for them to be at home. He begrudgingly somewhat agreed but would not commit. One day, we showed up in the morning and let them know that today was the day. They were none too happy but when they realized (again) that they could take Conrad, their dog, it made it somewhat better. Mom kept saying, "It doesn't matter where we live as long as we're together." That was so true. The moving company (Cheryl Lund) was awesome. They took pictures of the living room and bedroom and then set up the apartment in the exact same way. Pictures were hung the same, furniture placed the same. It was amazing! We got it all done before 6:00pm that night. They were in and settled. My dad did ask several times how long they had to "stay in this hotel". But, it didn't take long before they were completely at home in the community. In fact, they were the life of the party. My dad would tease and joke with the staff to the point that he would get so tickled he couldn't speak. They came to love their new home and we had some peace of mind that they were loved where they were. Unfortunately, dad's health continued to decline until the end of February 2018 when he was near the end. It was at this time that I saw personally what SPSL and the staff are really made of. Dad had been on hospice for congestive heart failure since before we moved them in. When the time came, he was moved to end of life care and hospice brought in a hospital bed and the SPSL staff was diligent at trying to make dad comfortable. They put up with me being neurotic about his pain medication and when he could no longer swallow, they somehow always managed to get his meds down. One of the Med Techs, Tracey, lovingly called my dad "Tom Tom". My mom started calling him that too. It was extremely touching and comforting to know how much he was loved by those who cared for him. Dad struggled for about 10 days before passing. During that time, there was always at least one additional daughter (me or one of my 3 sisters) and at the end, all of us were spending the night in their little one bedroom apartment. The staff never complained or gave us attitude about having to step over or around us. They were simply awesome. In fact, they would bring us plates of cookies and pots of coffee and made sure we knew they would get us whatever we needed. My dad's best friend in his new home was Robert "the Jersey boy". He and my dad were so close that when my dad was no longer able to respond, Robert could not see one of us without crying over losing his friend. It still makes me get a lump in my throat. My dad passed on March 1 and we held the funeral and reception on March 10. I thought it worth including the note I sent to Jack and the staff of SPSL after they hosted the reception for my dad's funeral. The truth is, when it came down to it, my dad did die at home. Dear Jack and All SPSL Staff, I cannot thank y’all enough for your accommodations for my parents over the past three weeks. Today was just the tip of the iceberg and I am speaking for my whole family when I say that we are truly blessed that God lead us to Shavano Park Senior Living. A special thank you to Kevin for putting together and playing the video of my dad on Saturday. It was simply amazing. To Susan and the entire Medical staff, thank you so much for your caring and your patience, especially with me as I drove everybody crazy with my worry about my dad. You all have a gift and I’m so grateful for each and everyone of you. To the kitchen staff and housekeeping who made known to us their feelings for my dad and how much they are going to miss him. I can’t tell you what that means to us. To the Jersey boy who loved joking around with my dad and patiently resets the air-conditioner for us after my mom disconnects, thank you so much for your love and friendship with my father. And finally, to Jack. Your willingness to take 30 minutes out of your day on March 1 to talk to me and help me process what was going on was a gift from God. I guess Jesus does work in corner offices of directors at assisted living facilities. ;). Thank you so much for helping me understand what my dad needed that day. My mom is so lonely right now. We will be there often but know that she is in good hands with all of you. Thank you and we love you, The Lawhon family Now, with Dad gone, it is time to move Mom over to Generations Memory Care. We are so grateful that it is just a move down the hall for her and all the relationships she has made in her new home are still there for her. We still feel incredibly blessed to have her where she is. After having my parents live at SPSL for well over a year, and experiencing the care my father received in his last days, I can honestly say that I wholeheartedly recommend this community to anyone looking for loving and personal care for your loved ones who require assisted living. Please feel free to IM me if you have any questions.

We found Shavano Park Senior Living almost by accident. We'd known for a time that Mom was battling dementia and we'd tried to leave her in her own home for as long as possible. Then we discovered that she had inoperable bladder cancer and her dementia was getting worse. We realized that she could no longer live alone and we knew she wouldn't have been happy with us up in North Texas and far away from her friends and the rest of the family in the San Antonio area, so we decided to begin what we thought would be a lengthy search for a place that would suit everyone well, most of all, my Mom. As it happened, we were out on Loop 1604 when Cathye began a search for a memory care facility on her tablet. Shavano Park Senior Living was nearby and was on the first page of our search engine, so we stopped and had a great visit with Brenda who understood exactly what we were facing and explained the facility and the care there. We toured it with her and were amazed at how nice the facility was and how helpful and upbeat the staff seemed. After a short time, we decided to move Mom there and we never looked back. It was, as I supposed it often is, a rocky beginning. For the resident/patient, there is a time of adjustment to what seems at first like a loss of freedom and self-determination. But that passes pretty quickly, just as Brenda said it probably would. Mom began to enjoy her new home with it's numerous and interesting activities and outings. Her "adventure" at IFly was a definite highpoint and we are grateful for Kevin's inventiveness and his skill at selling it to her. Whenever the bus left to go to an outside activity, she was usually first onboard. She also found new social opportunities and new friends to take meals with and old friends and family visited regularly and often, taking her for meals and activities, even a few trips to the Gulf Coast at Port Aransaas which she loved. For 15 months, the facility was her home and she liked it there. Late in October, her health deteriorated to the point where she became bedridden and unable to move around, we thought we'd have to move her for more intense and specialized care, but thanks to her Vitas nurse and Ashley, it was decided to leave her there. She passed away shortly after that on October 29th. I am convinced that her last year of life was much more pleasant and interesting to her than it would have been somewhere else. I am likewise convinced that she received excellent care and attention from the wonderful and patient staff there. So....long story short. I cannot thank the staff enough. We feel so fortunate to have found you and may God bless each and every one of you for what you did for my Mom and for your care of all your patients. I don't know how you could've done more in what is obviously a calling and not just a job. If you're reading this and facing the same choices we did, believe me, you can do no better than Shavano Park Senior Living for your loved one. They go out of their way to make life worth living for the residents and it's obvious. Go by and talk to them. Staff, thank you again, we love you all and can never repay your care of Mom...

I moved my uncle from Houston, where he had lived for much of his adult life, to Shavano Park Senior Living community. The management and the staff have been very instrumental in making the transition to his new home very smooth. They go out of their way to make him feel welcome. He already made a couple of friends and thoroughly enjoys the conversations. He also was impressed with his roomy and cozy apartment. When I visited this afternoon, he was looking forward to movie night.

Shavano Park Senior Living has been so good to my mom. She has lived here since it first opened, after switching from two other living centers that did not live up to their reputation. She loves her big room and private bath, and tells me this is all anyone needs. The food is very good and she enjoys her meals. Best of all they keep her active with all the activities which we got nowhere else. She loves to go bowling. Yesterday SPSL made one of her lifelong dreams come true. They arranged so she could go flying in a plane again, something she enjoyed doing when she was young. I have never seen her so happy. Thanks to everyone at SPSL for making this happen.
