Reviews Solstice Senior Living at Plano
October 2024
My dad is a military veteran. The management staff and frontline staff had made him feel extremely comfortable and happy to be here. They go over and above to please. The residents, which of course makes my family extremely happy and and proud to have him in such a fabulous facility. My dad has made some friends which he had not at the previous facility he was in. It's really hard to believe. He has been there for several years now and it's still doing very well and happy with the decision to move in. I truly can't express my pleasure to the management staff for being available to answer my questions and phone calls. I usually do not write comments or reviews. But I had to do it this time, knowing how happy my dad is and the rest of my family as well. Thank you. To the Solostice Senior Livng Center in Plano, TX.

Absolutely love Solstice Senior living and their team. They create a kind, safe and fun environment for Seniors. Never a dull moment! We have the privilege to walk along side them and have seen how Kolbee and her team truly care for every person. I highly recommend Solstice for you or your loved one. Great facility and great people.

Seemed like a nice place. Too bad they don't let freshmen, sophomores, or juniors live there.

After reviewing several facilities to relocate my 94 year old mother to Plano, we selected the Solstice and moved her in March 2021. A few bumps in the road in the beginning primarily due to kitchen staffing issues but overall a positive transition from living in her home to an apartment. Things have steadily improved since Kolbee, the new Director, took over at the beginning of this year. She gets things done and is striving to make the place a better place to live. The facility continues to be improved, from kitchen staffing, overall cleanliness, upgraded landscaping and common area decorations. More importantly, the place has a positive, warm, inviting energy upon entering. The staff cares about the residents and this starts at the top with Kolbee and Tracy. Tracy, the social and activity director has been an anchor and key team member since mom moved in. She is a wonderful, caring individual that helped pull my mom out of a rut and become more social. Gigi, one of the team members, is one of the most positive, fun individuals to be around. She helped my mother in many ways. Wanda and Kelly at the front door had smiles when ever I entered. I witnessed a great deal of concern and patience when interacting with residents. A big shout out to Melanie, the physical therapist, who treats many residents.. I can't say enough about her - she is an enormously caring and giving individual - thank you for helping mom feel better! It was a a sad day when I had to relocate my mom to a full support facility in July. She misses her new friends and the warm atmosphere created by a great team. Thank you to all of the Solstice team!

My parents live at this complex but they have continuously had concerns about the quality of the food. In the last three weeks they were both served under cooked chicken twice. Pink in the middle. Both of those times my father had really bad stomach issues afterwards for three days. With older folks dehydration Is a big concern with diarrhea and it bothers me this is an ongoing issue. He shouldn't be sick two times in three weeks because of food. The quality of the food has drastically become worse over the last month. The rest of the place is great but food is a big deal. Food is one of the reasons this apartment cost is higher at this complex. As my father is not the greatest advocate I wanted the public to know that this is an issue. Please focus on food safety. The quality isn't the best either. Side note: the ramp to go outside to the one of the courtyard exits is missing its ramp and handicapped folks in wheelchairs have issues getting in and out.

I wrote a review about 18 months ago, promising then to update my evaluation once the new executive director had been in place for awhile. My mother lived at Solstice for 20 months before passing away. As a result, we had a wide variety of engagements with Solstice and its services. First, I feel that Kristen (executive director) has done an outstanding job of steadying the ship. This took awhile, because it meant personnel and policy changes, making sure the right people were not just in the building but in the right roles, and having a sustainable methodology. I feel she has done all this and has created a fairly well-oiled machine. I can't speak to all the services Solstice offers (like recreation activities or buses to medical appointments and shopping), as my mother's health declined sharply just as those services turned back on after the pandemic eased. Other residents seem to like the various options, but we unfortunately had little experience with the range of services at Solstice. What we did learn about was the path for my mother to add services in place as her health declined. It was important to her to be in her home, and Solstice and its partners facilitated that goal. First was the transition from independent living to assisted living. This was done through Grace Home Health, which provides staff on site 24 hours per day. Leaders at both Solstice and Grace noted the rapid decline in my mother's function and my own sizable investment of time trying to help her, and basically told me, "It's time to get help." I deeply appreciate their advice, as I could not work a job and give my mother all the care she suddenly needed. While there were some bumps in the transition and execution at times, the overall experience with Grace was a good one. My mother very much appreciated their care, and I appreciated the degree of difficulty that they had to execute. Solstice still provided the basic infrastructure, including meals, and worked together with Grace to ensure my mother's meals were delivered and fit her allergies and changing needs. The last step was the transition from assisted living to hospice care. Grace works with a connected service called Brightstar Hospice. Brightstar was great, with knowledgeable, caring personnel, and they coordinated with Grace for the daily care that was needed. Solstice was not really involved during this phase by nature, except for providing basic infrastructure. To wrap up, I appreciated that my mother had continuity and stability throughout her decline and passing. There is a good spirit at Solstice; my mother (a hermit) was not close to other residents, but the residents got to know me, were supportive and encouraging, and sometimes went out of their ways to help my mother and me. I feel like Solstice offers a high value-to-price ratio, and Solstice is a very good option for your family. I can especially recommend the evolutionary path that my mother took in spending her final months at Solstice.

Clean and friendly! Caution you feel yourself getting older when you step inside.
June 2022
The staff there are very compassionate and caring. It is a great place for someone looking to retire.
May 2022
My mom has been at Solstice for 3 years now, we feel lucky and blessed that we found this place for her. The facility is always clean and bright, and the staff is always friendly and willing to help. Kristen, the Director, sets the tone at the top and leads by example. I live in a different state, and Kristen and her team have gone way beyond the list on the contracts to help my Mom. They have done things like help me with her cell phone and take her to the doctor and stay with her the entire time. Kristen will text me telling me about the conversation and stories she heard as she spends time with my Mom. It really is a blessing to have someone that truly cares watching after your loved ones. As for other amenities, my Mom likes the variety of food and says that it is always good. And, we have seen great live events for the residents and the weekly happy hour is always fun. Our experience would have been drastically different without the amazing team at Solstice. You won't find a more dedicated Director than Kristen, and that flows down to her team. We are very pleased, and we are confident that you will be as well. Thank you, Kristen and the entire Solstice team!

We moved from another property and we are so pleased. Every encounter we have from the management staff to all of the support staff is excellent. They are responsive, friendly, and genuinely care about their residents. It may not be as beautiful as some other properties, but that is quickly overcome by the level of care. Update: Death of our dear Nonna- we had good care to the end. They had the level of support we needed until moving her to the hospital. The only negative thing Nonna said during her time was that the chef changed a couple of times and they werent really committed to her needs as a diabetic (carbs and sugar- sandwiches, potatoes, etc...continued to be constants). The carpets in the hallway remained dirty. And maid stole from several residents but when they found out who it was they terminated her immediately. Unfortunately, they couldnt recover the treasured items. Not really in their control, but just giving our experience. I believe all families should install cameras, and thats a lesson we learned. Feels like an invasion, but the thief was caught because someone had cameras. Would I still place a loved one here again? Yes.

I really enjoyed the personal One on ome facetime tour of the whole premises. Tonya was so helpful and was able to answer all of my questions. I look forward to coming in next Wednesday for a in person tour. Oh and also I met several other staff while in this tour and everyone was so friendly and one particular one was super outgoing and happy. That is a good sign of how this place is run. Cant wait to meet you all in person.

Grandmother was locked out in the cold trying to just get some fresh air like we all need and deserve sometimes. It was late im aware and I completely understand safety and rules. I really do but, there needs to be something put in place for situations like this emergency code, key, door access. No one likes to hug thier cold Granny who was beside herself unable to get back into a residence that doesnt come cheap in the least bit. There should be at no point ever a tenant especially a Geriatric tenant that has to deal with being locked out knocking hoping and waiting for someone to come help her based off being completely unaware she would be stuck outside in cold weather for stepping outside. I hope this message is received well as for I do come from a great place of understanding. Locked out cold Grandparents will not be something I accept moving forward.

My husband went for a tour of the Plano, TX, location today. He was really impressed with the facility, and the Solstice associate that gave him the tour.
November 2020
If you are seeking a home where staff truly cares about your loved one, you have found it. Tanya Husser goes above and beyond to make sure residents stay engaged by offering a wide variety of activities for all. Major events are also held once or twice each month. Our interactions with Tanya and other support staff have been nothing short of impressive. The staff has been busy upgrading the library and dining areas as well as installing a new fountain and patio furniture to make being outdoors more enjoyable. We love the warm and welcoming atmosphere in this community above all. We are sure you will too!

I am writing this at a time when my mother has been at Solstice for about a month, and a new executive director will be coming on board. So I will update my review when my mother has had more time there under the new executive directors regime. As background, this is the second IL center in which my mom has lived. On the plus side, Solstice has a good approach to senior care. Its hard to judge any IL center fully during the pandemic, as they have to optimize some services for safety. But I feel like their plan and philosophy is good. My mother has benefited because Solstice has done a few much-appreciated things to customize her situation. Also, she is picky about her food, so she likes the basic approach to the menu, rather than the fine dining approach of her prior IL center. The staff has been very helpful to her, especially the executive director, marketing manager and front desk. She is still getting to know the residents (shes a hermit), but the atmosphere seems friendly and open, especially compared to the cliques she encountered at the last IL center. My mother has also benefited from a good primary care doctor that visits on Saturdays and Grace Home Health Care services. A podiatrist comes once a month, and she is scheduled for his next visit. As a result of all this, plus being closer to my family, she feels more secure and content than she has in quite awhile. On the down side, I feel that Solstices plan doesnt always translate into execution. Ill give a couple of examples. My mother has food allergies along with a couple of strong preferences. We have met with the chef, we have a sign posted on her door of what she cant have, and yet they have frequently brought her food that she cant eat or must work around. We hope we have this solved now through marking reminders on her weekly menu submission (a handy feature, by the way - residents select on Sundays everything theyre going to eat that week). Also, at move-in, we gave a punch list of maintenance items to a couple of managers and since talked to the executive director about it, but none of them have been resolved yet. In my experience, execution is a management issue. While the executive director is a great guy and very interactive with the residents, execution may not be his strength. So well see how this will change when a new executive director gets settled. Taken altogether, we are pleased with Solstice and just want to see better execution on some items while retaining the good framework and atmosphere theyve created as staff and residents.

Ive been here for about 15 years. I like it here.
October 2020
Nice place. Very nice and friendly staff. Everything you need under one roof.
September 2020
Looking at the comments, I realize that some of them are old. Our mother has been at Cottonwood, Solstice for almost 5 yrs. In the past few years it has gone through a sale and several new teams. Some of the directors have been better than others, but everyone survived. All I can say is, I dont know anyone who doesnt want a chance. I can only imagine how difficult it is to go through so many changes. Yes, there have been times that we were not pleased with something. We never demanded anything, but talked to all of the managements about any concerns. I will say that every concern was taken care of in a timely manner. One change was even a new floor for the bathroom. The current team , Kirby, Terry, Kathleen, the new food director, etc. have been more than helpful with any concerns. They inherited a complex situation. The new remodel makes the place bright and airy. It is continuing. Kirby is willing to listen and pleasant when interrupted. Terry is the ever-ready bunny and breaks his neck fixing things around there. Even helps residents if they push wrong channel on remote. Kathleen is always willing to help. The food director was having a meeting with the residents in a common area when I was there the other day. They were heard, they could hear him, and he took everything in that they were saying. A very perceptive man!! Grace Home Health is an absolute God-send. They are angels that look after medicine for mom. Shelley, Linda in the beauty shop are so sweet and caring. They even get the residents if someone forgets an appt. I am at the facility at least 3-4 times a week to see mother. I am not related to anyone who works there or for the company. Over the years I realize that this is a profession that is a target for attacks. I have witnessed some personally!!!! Frankly, my brothers and I are just so grateful there are people who care about our elderly parents under sometime difficult circumstances. Change is hard and takes time. A huge THANK YOU for effort, trying and caring!!!!!!
