We moved here in March of last year, hoping to make life simpler, and, if possible, make new friends. Best decision we ever made. Among the residents and staff, we have found wonderful connections. Almost every day, we look at each other and say, "Aren't we lucky?"

I moved to Asbury Place Kingsport in December 2023 and it’s probably one of the best decisions I ever made. Our independent living community is smaller than many similar communities but when you move here, you’re not only an integral part of the community, you’re also part of the local Asbury family ” no adoption papers necessary, it just happens. There are a wide variety of activities to be enjoyed, though no one person would be capable of participating in all of them ” and if you want more or different activities, there are plenty options close by, whether it’s golf, pickleball, etc. The staff is outstanding, compassionate, and helpful ” and they are really part of the family also. It is so nice to live in a place where we all help and care for each other ” no one is a stranger, though we all have different experiences, different interests, different beliefs, etc. If anyone is looking for a wonderful place to call home, you need to at least consider Asbury Kingsport. My 2 little chihuahuas and I think this place is THE BEST!

This is submitted by Wendell skinner husband of Joyce Watson: How often have you heardBetter Than I deserve, to How are you?? I would certainly make that response because of the multiple blessings I have had and continue to have in life as an 89 year old. It would be impossible to ever name all my blessings, but a few would be: a wonderful career as a Navy surgeon; A second career as a civilian surgeon in Kingsport; and moving to Asbury Community for independent senior living. I know you will be surprised to learn that some advanced seniors can be quite stubborn. An example: I had realized that my wife of56 years was having advanced health challenges. We. Looked at Asbury and actually put money down on a villa. Stubbornness prevailed and I backed out saying I was not ready. Fortunately several months later I came to my senses, realized how rapidly life could change for an 81 year old. W e moved to Asbury, found good friendships and activities. It was a great move. Unfortunately after about 15 months my wife died. I received great support from the staff, administration at Asbury, friends, and my church. I realized that being at Asbury had made caring for my wife much easier than if I had remained in my house. The blessings did not cease and being at Asbury led to another profound blessing. A neighbor and I got to be good friends over the ping pong table. My wife died. Her husband moved into a nursing home on campus and later died. My friendship with Joyce turned to love and we married (At the height of the Covid crisis). We have continued to be thrilled with our home and association with Asbury as a couple for over six years. Making the decision to leave a house I’d difficult but the blessings of moving into Asbury for independent senior living has been great for me and I suspect it would be for you also.

We came here 3 years ago and it was one of our best decisions. Although we are in a Villa there is great repore with people throughout the campus. There are numerous activities, both physical and mental that residents may participate in. The staff is generous, efficient and friendly. There is an opportunity for lunch or breakfast at the bistro. The dinner meal is in the dining room has a choice of an entree, sides and salad bar or there is an option of a hot bar which changes daily. The dining room staff is friendly, efficient and accommodating. There is a social hour once a week which allows you to a choice of snacks and beverages. Occasionally there will be an opportunity for special trips that you may enjoy. Once again a great place to live!

My husband and I have lived at Asbury Place for 8 1/2 years. We have seen many changes through the years, but we are happy that we chose to move here all the way from N.J. Staff members are kind and helpful, and we enjoy many activities that help us be stronger and heathier. Plentiful opportunities for social interaction with other residents add greatly to our happiness. The community as a whole is friendly and welcoming. JimWe have enjoyed our retirement years here and hope to stay a long time!

I happen to be there the other day for one of their new Food Truck Friday events. Later on they had a random fire drill. It was great to see the whole staff work together to get the residents to safety while calmly telling them what was going on. It was actually really great to see this in action because this is something you probably wouldn’t think of when choosing a safe home for Mom and Dad. Just another reason to look into one of their locations if you are in the market. The facility and staff here are amazing. Highly recommend them for your family needs.

Update: My life's situation has now changed and as soon as the unit I want is available I'll be moving in, can't wait!!! Recently I had a personalized tour of Asbury Place with Suzy Cloyd. I had been there once before, but I wanted to learn more and refresh my brain so to speak. A friend came with me, and she was as impressed as I was. The building is clean, welcoming, and homey. We toured an empty Adams floor plan, which is my first choice. I know where I would place furniture. The laundry room is perfect, and the kitchen has enough cabinets and storage I can keep most of my kitchen items that I thought I might have to sell. The dining area/living area is a good size and we can’t forget the laundry room with washer/dryer included. Suzy took us to the dining room and told us to order anything we wanted and to order a variety of items to get a good feel for the food. We were both impressed. I had a mixed green salad followed by grilled chicken thigh, snow peas, baked potato, and a biscuit. Everything was cooked perfectly. I also ordered a ham sandwich “ I am a sandwich for lunch sort of gal and I did bring it home since I was stuffed from the other items. Did I forget to mention chocolate cake “ wow it hit the spot. I think I better go on a diet before I move to Asbury!! Many of the residents said hello’ as they walked by us, several stopped by our table to introduce themselves. All things considered, I felt right at home. The sales team, Suzy Cloyd and Julia Cox, know their stuff, they care about Asbury Place and the residents, current and future. They both have been extremely helpful. My situation is not at the point right now that I can move but Asbury is #1 on my list and there is no #2 so when the planets align you will find me at Asbury Place in Kingsport, TN!

1st Impressions matter! A couple of days ago was my introduction to the Asbury Place Team. I did not have an appointment, however, Melissa got things rolling and before I knew it I was in the presence of Suzy, Tuesday, and LeAnn! This team of caring staff was patient with all my questions, quick with solutions, and offered great ideas and suggestions. They represented AP well and are assets to the team. My aunt has been one of their independent living residents for years and I am glad she chose AP Kingsport!

I spent 20 days at the Asbury Place skilled nursing facility getting rehabilitation for a broken ankle and surgery recently. From the very first I was impressed with the friendliness and competence of the staff. Later I met the Physical and Occupational Therapists. They were a terrific group and soon I was well on my way to managing my temporary disability.

My mother came here for rehab and were both displeased (me more so than her I think). Mom is doing better and I'm grateful to the staff that helped make that happen but her progress was slow (partially because they went backwards in her care when she first came in), they misdiagnosis her, and there were issues with her case worker as well. Most of the staff seemed good and caring and helpful but the overall way things were run is far from perfect. Is it the worst rehab? No. Far from it. My mom was safe and cared for. But it was far from what one might want for their care, too.

Asbury Place at Steadman Hill has truly been a godsend for our family. We needed to find a place for our mom rather quickly but did an extensive online search followed by visiting assisted living facilities in person. Deciding upon Asbury Place was the best decision we could have made. I live out of state but spent some time helping my mom transition there. The common rooms are really nice and always clean, and my mom’s room is spacious with a little kitchenette and large bathroom. But what stands out the most with Asbury is that each and every member of the staff is absolutely wonderful. From the administrator, and the head nurse, the techs, LPNs, food services, and maintenance, they are all incredibly caring and most competent. They go out of their way to make my mom (and all the residents) feel comfortable and secure in her new home. This was a very difficult time for our family and Asbury Place was able to reduce our stress and worries a great deal because of the care my mom is receiving there. My brother lives locally and continues to say the same things. They are amazing! I speak with my mom twice a day and her consistent message to me is they are taking such good care of me; you don’t need to worry! She is really enjoying the food and activities also. Most of the staff has been there for years, and we see the same ones daily and they always make us feel welcome while we are there visiting. When my mother-in-law was in another AL we would see a high changeover in staff, so it was clear that they didn’t really know our loved one. This makes a huge difference, and we understand that much of the Steadman Hill staff have been there for many years. They are like family. We cannot express our gratitude enough to each and every one of the staff at Asbury. It is obvious that they are happy to be there and that truly enjoy the residents and caring for them. The atmosphere is very warm, friendly and feels like a close-knit community. We are most appreciative to all the staff and will be forever grateful that they helped us when we needed it most. Asbury Place at Steadman Hill is the absolutely the best!

My aunt was there after her hip repair. Lucy made the process of getting her admitted very smooth and stress free. The therapy team was nothing but amazing. She would get so excited when she would progress and on days that she didn't they trouble shot to see how to prevent any decline. For example her pain was effecting therapy so they scheduled it an hour prior to therapy and she could do better. She could not stop going on about how good the food was there. The cook was so personal with her and treated her like family spoiling her with good treats. She made a huge impression on all of us. The aides there were hands down the best. Special thank you to some of the nurses. Like with anywhere there were some nurses that should probably not do that as a profession but the amazing nurses made up for the bad apples. Maintenance Jason is a huge asset too. He made sure her room was taken care of and had a great personality to go with it. Thank you all so much and if you want your family to progress in rehab this is the place to go

The place was extremely nice. The nurses cared for our father well. However, the social worker was HORRIBLE!! There was very little communication. They did not do a care plan with the family within the first few days like they were supposed to. There were some other communication issues that we had with them regarding his health. They failed to contact us about. They also failed to contact us when they moved our father from their facility to another facility in Johnson City. Social worker put in notes that she attempted to reach us which is a BOLD LIE!!!! We go to the facility to see our dad and he was no longer there!! We get told by the nursing staff that he was moved. The social worker needs to get her stuff together and act like a legit social worker!!!
