I recently moved into assisted living at The McKendree. While it is a new chapter for me, the exceptional folks I have and continue to encounter have helped me tremendously. Margaret provided a tour of the apartments. She was wonderful to patiently take the time to answer all my [many] questions...and no pressure to sign any paperwork until I was ready. I met Tasha [administrative nurse] who talked to me and kept assuring me I would find peace and safety here..she gives great hugs too!! Christina [front desk] helped by getting a crew to my apartment when my furniture arrived. A big "thank you" to Steven, Tyler and their boss Todd for all their help. They hung pictures, set up my tv, replaced ceiling lights and was very accommodating with whatever they were asked to do.. Nurse Michelle stopped by to check on on me...taking time to answer all my questions...[yes.. I do ask questions..lol] MJ, Denise, CC, Florita continue to provide loving care. Thanks to everyone who have been instrumental in my move and making my apartment my new home. If you or a precious family member are in need of assisted living due to changes in your health/life, your first call should be to Margaret at The McKendree.

Updating my previous 5 star review. My in laws live here; and everything has been truly so wonderful. It’s great having a people that truly care about your loved onesthis is a tight knit community that will welcome your loved ones with open arms. The transition can be tough but everyone makes it a point to keep your loved one involved in activities & get to know their story. It has been so wonderful & Margaret and Tasha are true angels. I’m so thankful for them and everyone at the Mckendree. Your loved one will thrive here and have people that really care about them. If you are looking for a place for family member, this is it. Thank you Mckendree for taking such good care of my mother and father in law!

Our mom has been at McKendree in the assisted living facility for several years now. Margaret was so helpful from day one and she is there even now for anything we need even if it is a smile and a hug. Tasha does a great job keeping things running and is a phone call away. Donna somehow holds things together and does activities for everyone. Tonya oversees our nurses. Nurses Michelle and Astrid always go above and beyond while taking care of a lot of people. Mom loves the aids Remi, Florita and Denise, and let's not forget Bridgette in the cafeteria trying to keep everyone fed. I know I have forgotten lots of people, but this is just a taste of the good people at McKendree.

Our experience was the initial introductions to the staff and tour of the facility related to memory care. The areas were clean, secure, and the personnel were knowledgeable and very personable. McKendree offers a complete care package from assisted living through skilled nursing all within the same grounds.

During the first half of 2025, my father-in-law's health started to decline. He lost over 25 pounds in a month. He was not eating regular meals or taking his medications as directed. Unfortunately, this decline caused him to have a terrible fall and break several ribs. This incident was very hard on him and his family, but the overall outcome was wonderful. He moved into The McKendree and his health started to improve immediately. The entire staff are extremely caring and treat him like family. We no longer worry about his daily needs because he has an entire team watching over him and keeping us updated. Margaret and Tasha, both told us that it takes men about 6 months to adjust to moving out of their home and they were correct on their estimate. We are right at the 6th month mark and he is now currently involved in everything McKendree has to offer. Donna oversees all the activities for the residence in the assisted living residence, and I know she is the primary reason that he is thriving. She went out of her way to get to know him and make sure he felt comfortable in group settings. The hardest part of him moving was the thought of not being able to work outside in his yard. We mentioned this to Margaret, and she told him he could do anything that he wanted on their grounds. I think he gets compliments daily on how good the front lawn and courtyard look. This little gesture gave him a feeling of being at home. Our family is grateful for the staff at McKendree. The best part of this transition is that his children no longer have to focus on being the caregivers and can go back to enjoying quality time as a family.

Mom moved to McKendree when it became unsafe to live alone. Margaret helped make her admission a welcoming transition. Tasha and Tonya have always followed up on any of her changing needs. These ladies make sure everything runs smoothly. They're engaged with the families and truly love the residents. The entire staff, from maintenance, house keeping, dietary, techs, nurses, therapy, recreation team and everyone is like family. They go above and beyond because they love them. It gives me peace of mind, knowing she's treated with care and respect.
