I am extremely disappointed with Hilda’s House and would not recommend this facility based on my experience. For the past eight months, I have been helping an elderly gentleman who lived here after another facility determined he did not require long-term nursing care. While living at Hilda’s House, he suffered a stroke and was transferred to rehabilitation. He worked incredibly hard in rehab because he was told he needed to be able to climb approximately 50 stairs before he could return. After accomplishing that goal, he was informed that his room had already been given away weeks earlier. Hilda’s House reportedly told him they had tried contacting the rehabilitation facility but never received a response. However, when I spoke with a nurse at the rehab facility, I was told they had no record of Hilda’s House contacting them about his discharge or room. Regardless of where the communication failed, the end result was that an elderly resident who had worked so hard to recover was left without a place to return to. When I called ahead to pick up his belongings, I was told everything was in the garage. When we arrived, there was confusion over several of his personal belongings, including his television and TV stand, which he had purchased himself for his room. We were also told the original TV box was gone. It was incredibly upsetting to see additional stress added to an already difficult situation. Beyond that, the facility itself appears dated and in need of significant updating and maintenance. While appearances aren’t everything, residents deserve a clean, comfortable, and well-maintained environment. What disappointed me most was the lack of communication, organization, and compassion. This gentleman is now left stressed, discouraged, and uncertain about where he will go after rehab through no fault of his own. Residents and their families deserve better than this.

My mother was diagnosed with dementia at 58 years old. With little options for care at home we moved her into Hilda's. She felt at home instantly. After 6 years, there is still no where in the world she would rather live. The staff is personable. The vibe is cozy. And the resident community is worth its weight in gold. If you are expecting a state of the art facility with waterfalls and bird houses, you'll likely be disappointed. But if you want a safe, comfortable place for your loved one to call home, you should take the first room available.
