January 2025
So nice on the surface. So SUB-standard just a thin scratch under the veneer and the real Magnolia Bridge appears. I'll attempt to hit the major issues: FOOD: I moved here late November, right after the chef was replaced with a cook who doesn't know how to cook (2 months). Food is less than good and often mis-defined, so you don't know what you ordered until after ordering. Example; Shrimp scampi brought oohs and ahhs, until residents began seeing and tastine]g it. Complains with "where's the garlic", and a"this isn't scampe", "this srimp is over-cooked etc. floated through the dining room. Sometimes the portions are to small, it requires another order tp fo;; up and that takes a lot of time, leaving the reaisent eating alone. they are always running out of important things like milk during breakfast The man who errantly calls himself the chef doesn't know how to pair foods. He or hs team still don't know even how to cook eggs properly. I ordered poached eggs once, and they came as unshelled hard boiled eggs served in ice water. I ask for new ones, and was told she hoped I didn't mind waiting. i soon learned what that means. Deserts are usually WONDERFUL, but now they consist mostly of Jello or Jello parfaits or cookies, and the wonderful deserts are now cut in such small pieces, they'll have to get creative to reduce the size more. People from independent living are not allowed to eat in independent living, but independent living are allowed to eat in assisted living. They demand deserts first so that they are sure they get what we want, whie the desert card doesn't make it to us until later in the meal when we are ready for desert. What's with the class system? We're paying more than independent living. ASSISTANCE: It's minimal at best. Three days ago, I waited well over two hours for someone to answer my call button when they missed an appointment they set up for 40 minutes earlier. Their brochures promises dinners in our room for a charge, but they don't really mean it. Even if the nurse accepted the order and puts it in, it never comes back as ordered, and I get excuses bot no fixing..I Once I fell and was on the floor no able to get up without assistance. I was there for 3 hours, yelling for help, knocking on window at a passer-by. Call button was broken I was told housekeeping changed sheets every week. Well, it's been 12 weeks now and no one from here heas helped me change my sheets.. I was told that housekeeping would pck up my dirty laundry on Fridays, bring it back and put it away for me. Hasn't happened yet. I have to put the hamper outside, which is beyond my abilities, and when I get back from a meal, there is sits in my room - clean, but not put away. I'm in my room at all time except meal time, but no one ever comes in to check on me when I'm here. the only time someone comes in to check is at medicine time, so if your loved one manages his or her own medicine, that person will never be checked up on. And if they have a medical emergency, and they've just received meds, they will lie there afraid for more than 12 hours before someone notices if their button doesn't ring. In may respects, my family was wrong. I would have been better off at home. At least I had a land-line phon next to the bed and at various strategic places around the house. Here I must remember to carry a cell phone I'dont' yet know how to use properly, and my clothes don't work with cell phones, and I don't like carrying purses, which brings me to another complaint Management was WELL aware that there was a problem with staffing stealing cash from assisted living residents w well before I arrived but no one told me to take appropriate action to safe guard the extra money I bought to handle things during moving.. During mealtimes, staff has close to an hour to case the apartments, and even my secret drawers were discovered. Of course, if someone comes in with dementia, they will be of no concern, because police won't cae because they can't be a witness. The two stars are for those few EXEMPLARY people who appear to love what they do and can be believed when they say something. those few people can't hold up a facility that even the director doesn't care about

I have waited a long time. Our orientation recently assured me that I made the right decision. Also we had a fantastic dinner. When the time comes that I can no longer drive I can walk to stores and restaurants. Looking forward to putting my present living arrangements behind me. Thanks to the staff.
