My father is there just sitting in his room and told he has Covid and can't go outside. He can't even get fresh air outdoors even though he feels fine. It seems like this place is nice- until you get there, and then it's more like a prison. My worry is that they want everyone to just "be easy" and stay in their rooms. But that is terrible for one's physical and mental well-being.

Since working here since March of 2021, I have thoroughly enjoyed by employment here. I love interacting with the residents on a daily basis. I started at the concierge desk and have had the opportunity to move up to a manager position. The staff and management here have been the greatest people to work with. They give you incentives to work hard and do your best. I couldn't think of a better place to work. They really are like an extension of my family.

My husband and I moved to The Woodlands in September 2020 after doing an exhaustive analysis of CCRC communities. We adjusted quickly and have made many friends who share similar interests. I am active with Mah Jongg, exercise classes, golf at the Furman University course (no green fees - cart fee only), biking The Swamp Rabbit Trail, hiking with The Woodlands Trekkers, and participating in OLLI classes. Jim enjoys the fitness center, walking on the Swamp Rabbit, and playing pool. We are retired professors, so the proximity to the Furman campus is fantastic for us. Whether it's a concert, play, football game, or basketball game, being dropped off 'at the door' is really great. Plus, the bus ride back home is about 5 minutes. Together, we enjoy many of the Lifestyles events. For example, we're signed up for 8 activities this month - brewery tour, lunch in Hendersonville, etc. My sister has recently become a Woodlands resident; some friends are on the Wait List; and another couple is coming for a visit soon. No CCRC is perfect; nevertheless, we are very satisfied with our move to The Woodlands. The staff works hard to meet the expectations of all residents. Carolyn & Jim Tripp

Since graduating I have had the honor of being promoted to the Connections Scheduler and Development Coordinator. I loving having a job that I look forward to coming to every day! Not only have I formed strong relationships with residents and other staff, but The Woodlands has also become a home for me. While very impressed with Independent Living at Woodlands upon my first visit, I immediately put my name on the waiting list. Before I was able to move in I had another positive impression by going to the skilled nursing to recover from a hospital stay. The quality of staff, personnel and medical care was excellent. The lead team knows how to bring on new staff that cares for people and shows the quality of excellence that Woodlands at FU desires. So grateful and looking forward to moving into AL or IL soon. A great caring family environment designed to make transitioning a transformational experience!!

Since moving into the Woodlands in the fall of 2018, my wife and I have had heartwarming, positive experiences here - in spite of the challenges of the COVID 19 virus, the associated personnel shortages and the necessary structural changes. The staff has been superb in filling in the dining room personnel vacancies and we have been well-fed with tasty dishes; We enjoy the comfortable , well-maintained indoor and outdoor environment, the nearby Ollie programs and the multiple in -house activities available. So, our experiences at the Woodlands have been positive and we have expressed this in detail to friends, acquaintances and residents here. And, we have enjoyed making multiple friends in this fine community Thanks, Tom and Lucy Till

We moved into our Villa mid-April, and because of the constraints imposed as a result of the coronavirus, our introduction to all that the Woodlands has to offer has been very much limited. We are absolutely satisfied with our Villa! It is spacious, seemingly well-constructed, very bright and clearly designed to accommodate the lifestyle of people of our age and stage. The Woodlands staff and contractor have both been very responsive in addressing our "punch-list" and other related requests. We have recently been able to have dinner with other Villa residents at the "Carriage House", wearing masks and keeping appropriate social distancing. As a consequence we have been able to meet, at least on a limited basis, a number of our neighbors each of who appear to be very pleasant. We are looking forward to having the opportunity get to know our neighbors better socially, as conditions permit. We would be remiss if we didn't comment on the quality and quantity of our meals, which under the circumstances have been wonderful. The Furman catering staff deserves a special shout out. One of the features which drew us to the Woodlands was its proximity to and relationship with Furman University. Obviously, we have not yet had access to the Furman facilities which has been shut down as a result of the pandemic, but we both participated in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute during the summer semester. There was a wide selection of classes to choose from. The classes were held via Zoom and were both interesting and instructive. We are both looking forward to the fall semester, and to the day when we can have access to the campus. Ron and Sue Cianci

We have had a good experience with the marketing team for the Woodlands expansion. Angela was warm and welcoming. The different phases of the expansion were explained in detail. We were shown the options for the new units. Angela listened carefully to our ideas and concerns about possible forthcoming options as some details are still being considered. We are looking forward to being part of the the family at the The Woodlands at Furman in 2021.

This was our second visit to the Woodlands, and we were just as impressed this time as we were last time. Angela Hecker , director of marketing, spent a lot of time answering our questions and was extremely articulate and helpful. We also were able to visit independent apartments and interact with the occupants, who seemed very positive about their entire experience at the Woodlands. We also enjoyed a delicious lunch in the very pleasant surroundings of the dining room. All in all it was a very positive experience.

We have friends who recently moved to The Woodlands at Furman. The couple is very happy to live there - as are the residents we met. Because my wife and I are looking for such a retirement community, we visited the campus. It makes an excellent overall impression. The facilities, options, and the surrounding areas are indeed very attractive. The ready smiles of the staff is a very welcoming sign. The close association with the well known and highly respected university is an additional bonus. It is definitely a place we will seriously consider as our search continues.

My husband and I moved here in the fall of 2017. The Woodlands was the first Retirement Community we visited, some 6 years ago. During that time period we looked at many other Communities in the North/South Carolina area and kept coming back to the Woodlands. We feel we have made just the right decision. The Staff is professional, supportive and helpful; the Residents are very warm and friendly; the access to Furman is also a real plus. We couldn't be happier.

After visiting several CCRCs in South Carolina, we moved to The Woodlands over 2 Years ago for their LifeCare program, great hospitality, food and proximity to our daughter and family nearby. Being nextdoor to Furman was a great incentive as well!

What a wonderful reception we had as the Jean Calvert Jazz Trio entertained a very attentive audience at the Woodlands tonight. The room was full and they stayed until the last note, and then wanted to talk, hug and kiss us! Here's hoping to see you guys again soon!

My husband and I moved into Woodlands from Michigan two months ago seeking to find warmer winter climes. Like all life's major changes -- i.e. kindergarten, high school, college, marriage, new job and city, where you are thrown in with a lot of new people -- there have been a lot of initial adjustments and it takes a while to feel "at home". We selected Woodlands after spending two different weekends in their guest apartment, so we already knew how friendly the staff and residents were. Everyone goes out of their way to make us feel welcome. The way the staff remembers names is especially impressive. As we gradually empty boxes and get our apartment decorated, we are starting to feel "at home". The facility is located on the outskirts of the grounds of Furman University, a truly gorgeous campus. The Swamp Rabbit walking path, a 13.5 mile trail which runs through the college grounds and down to the middle of Greenville, passes besides Woodland's parking lot. My husband loves to walk or ride his bike over to Furman's library and 6,000 square foot athletic facility using the trail. He swims in the olympic length pool and works out in the smaller nine-foot therapy pool — all just minutes away and free to Woodland residents. But I'm not an outdoor type. For me the convenience of walking a short distance after stepping off the elevator from our apartment to attend a performance by a Furman music major or to hear a lecture from a community leader or faculty member is a lovely luxury. We've been too busy to join one of the many special interest groups such a bridge, bible study, ping pong, or a book club , to name a few. But we have been taking classes at the college. A Woodland's bus picks us up for the short ride to the campus for classes at OLLI (Google: Osher Lifelong Learning Institute). We understand that it is one of the largest and most active of the 119 such senior facilities on campuses around the country. Attending classes and free lectures there has immediately enriched out lives. Day trips outside of Greenville offered by Woodlands have introduced us to the beautiful Smokey Mountains that are just a short trip away. We arrived in time to see the full breath taking spectrum of fall in the Carolinas. While Greenville is a difficult town to get around, we are slowly acclimating. The inconveniences (i.e. streets that suddenly change names) are more than outweighed by the outstanding quality of the city's charming downtown area and cultural attractions. Of particular note is the Symphony and Chorale -- major cities in the country cannot top the superb quality of the orchestra and chorus in this medium sized community. What a pleasant surprise it was to make that discovery!

my mother-in-law is a resident at the Woodlands and while the staff is nice, none of us are very impressed with the facility. They really don't offer enough for the independent living folks. For the price they charge, they should have in-house get-togethers on a regular basis; in-house movies; a buddy system to get to know others; a pool and other recreational offerings on site; cocktail hour for those who want a social activity/light supper rather than a seated dinner or soup/diner option...they should have more art; games and other activities that pull people together. One of the draws is that they offer courses at Furman University, but many of the courses are actually off campus--somewhere else in town. Access to the university facilities is harder than it looks--and is subject to the University's schedule. There is not much else on that side of Greenville. If you're a single senior, it seems to be a rather lonely existence at the Woodlands itself. If she could move and get her money back, she probably would, but they keep your money--so buyer beware. Her last years of mobility should be easier and more enjoyable than they are.
