My Mom has been a resident @ The Gables since 3/22. She’s in memory care where she is well cared for by some great staff. The activities offered is wonderful. They have a daily schedule along with occasional outings ( lunches and view Christmas lights) etc. She says the food is very good especially the desserts.

Cynithia, new employee, with out a doubt is the most helpful person I have worked with in the years my mother-in-law has been at the Gables. I finally have someone I can call and get answers to. Very pleasant and soo nice. Finally feel comfortable to call to help me with questions I have. Hang on to her!!!

Very distressing experience for our elderly parent in this ALF, created significant alarm for our family. Much to say about avoiding this facility. Breaks our heart knowing the sweet residents still there. Exec mgr (Sue) never bothered to meet us. Not as a courtesy, not for a welcome, and not even on move-out. Resisted, but answered, a phone call at move-in, and was brusque and arrogant. Let that be your first warning. The executive nurse (Loran) was provided a brief (3-5 sentence email) in advance of move-in, citing small, notable information helpful for quality of life, including the absolute need for a specific medication. She never replied. In fact, over the course of 2 months and 3 emails, she never bothered to email a response. The needed medication was NOT supplied on move-in, and resulted in a week of nausea/vomiting (first week living there) before anyone bothered to get the needed med. The carpet was of course soiled in this incident, and immediately cleaned. Same nurse, in attendance for COVID booster, was reminded (by a nurse providing the injection) that an antihistamine may be needed to combat local swelling at the injection location. She ignored this and instead waited 3 days to obtain an over-the-counter (OTC) medication (generic Benadryl), although the resident’s arm was swollen and red. This was despite frantic texts from family members to staff. Food menu: the pretty, pretty menu at the dining area entrance: if the foods shown on that menu were ever available, they not available by the time this resident reached the dining room. BBQ chicken never materialized, for example. Diabetic options were seldom if ever available. Was told Cobb salad unavailable due to lack of bacon, BLT sandwich not available due to lack of lettuce, and so on. Served lasagne with a side of corn and roll (not a balanced diet, by any imagination), as an example meal. This resident then had a hypo-glycemic episode, and rather than provide a glass of OJ, the facility called the ambulance. Upon arrival at the ER, the resident was noted to have a severe chronic cough, bruised fingertips, and needed antibiotics, which were prescribed. The facility proceeded to double-dose the antibiotics, resulting in severe diarrhea, including again soiling the carpet. In the following 3 wks, this was never shampooed, despite numerous requests/texts by this family. We removed the resident to a different facility immediately. Although the Notice of Move was emailed to the Executive Director, with request to acknowledge receipt, again, she did not reply. We kept correspondence copies and would be happy to share. On move out walk-through with Eva, a personable and polite admin staffer, we pointed out an excrement odor on the 2nd floor, which had been pungently persistent for a couple of weeks, without any noted repair. She acknowledged the odor, said it was down the hall. (Well, FIX IT!) In short, the MedTechs and Caregivers try very hard to do their jobs, and were good people. I wish for them the best of careers. The Mgt however apparently does not realize they are providing CARE for PEOPLE, and really should consider another line of work. Such arrogance. Such hubris. They show no concern for support, quality of life, proper diet, expediency, or recognizing families. Someone should explain to them they are operating an Assisted Living Facility. Our family seriously discussed whether the haphazard care was leading to a fatal outcome and decided we could not risk the wait, and moved the resident. **followup, the new ALF is warm and caring, ALL the staff walk around and introduce themselves, we are able to call everyone including Mgt. Meds are timely and correct, dietary needs are addressed. Parent is improving. Facility is clean and kept sanitary.

i entered this facility after spending two weeks getting physical therapy at roger c peace if you are looking for intensive physical therapy this is not the place for you spartanburg rehab institute. brushy creek will provide only the smallest amount of therapy possible for what they are being paid If you get 15 minutes during a therapy session that is a lot they do not go above and beyond. session, that is a lot nursing staff is spread Way too thin with one nurse having to cover multiple cottages especially on night shift. hopefully you will never come in contact with a cna named ellison. she has an attitude only a mother could love. she needs to find another profession. the shining stars at the facility are nurse Karla and cna christine, both of which were very helpful and professional during my stay. The food here is terrible. if you want real eggs for breakfast, you better ask for them or powdered eggs are what you will get. pre-cooked bacon and sausage are barely warm enough to eat at $650-day, they could do a lot better.and.dont ask for an extra blanket, there is never enough linen to go around

My mother has been here for 6 years. It has been a blessing to us as my mother absolutely LOVES it here. The facility and staff are always very nice and helpful to her. The leadership team is awesome! From the Executive Director, Assistant Director, Activity Coordinator, Housekeeping, and Maintenance guys, all are always willing to help if situations arise. They always have an "open door" policy for family members which means a lot. KUDOS and thanks for making a difference in my mother's quality of life at this point of her life. I would recommend this place to any family member looking for a parent(s).

It was an emotional and difficult decision for my mom to leave her home, but she is as happy here as we could have hoped. She's comfortable, safe, and enjoys the active social life the community provides.

By far the best experience our family has had in the Upstate . Both mom and Step- Dad utilized the amenities and the many areas they have . Assisted Living, Memory Care and Therapy/Skilled Nursing. Let's start with Memory Care - Mom resided in memory Care for 2 years and not a day went by she wasn't doing something or involved . The manager is very involved and He seems to be professionally trained for Dementia Care. He is always friendly and wants to help in any way . Activities program manager Beth is EXCEPTIONAL and runs a great team . The price is all inclusive for Memory Care and so important to budget when it comes to Alzheimer's and your loved one. All rooms are private and well kept, they have a beautiful courtyard . Dad resided in Skilled Nursing for a while and the care was fantastic . Not sure what other reviews were talking about but I would guess they most likely were banking on medicare coverage for private rooms etc and didn't get it so were unhappy . Not sure how many rooms or beds they have ,but its very quaint and easy to see everyone . The Administrators, Doctors and Nurse Practitioner are very involved and always willing to hear anything you have to say . By far the Best food in a senior living community - we ate many meals there with family and always went back for more. When my parents passed away all of us had peace of mind that a great quality of life was maintained at this community. Thank you Memory Care Staff and All the team on Pelham Road you do an amazing job with lots of love and care. God Bless you

My 92-year-old mother moved into the skilled nursing unit here this summer. Previously, she had been moved around several times and was in very poor condition with dementia and other problems. . A number of other local places had rejected her. Within a few days of her arrival at Brookdale, she began to improve. The staff (nursing, hospice and aides) are attentive, patient, caring and very professional. The facility is clean and well-maintained. I am thankful that she can live at Brookdale; it has brought a new sense of peace for her and for our family. (Posted by Glenn B.) P.S.Mom passed quietly Jan. 18, on the eve of her 93rd birthday. Hospice staff had gently prepared us for the end thanks, Harmony and Robbie). They alerted my brother so he could get there to be with her when she passed. Words cannot express our appreciation for that.

I visited the Memory Care Unit in August, 1913 for three days. I found that the premises were safe, clean, the food was very, very tasty, and the staff hard working and caring even with the difficult people - I saw only one person who seemed so. There were many activities and snacks offered during every day. There is music and a lovely fenced in patio where people can come and go freely. I left feeling my loved one is in a very good place.
