We choose Juniper Village for our Mother and here is why you would be wise to do so as well. I am actually in the business of keeping Seniors safe in Long Term Care Facilities in the State of Pennsylvania through Education, Infection Prevention, Dementia Care Education, Facility Resiliency, Fall Prevention Education, Emergency Preparedness and Age Sensitivity Education. It’s my whole career. I have had the opportunity to visit and evaluate HUNDREDS of LTCFs in the State of Pennsylvania. I have seen the great, the good and not so good as you can imagine. Juniper Village, their staff and administration are top tier without a doubt. Juniper has aided my Mother and family at numerous stages and events in recent years. We started with short stays for Rehab and Respite when Mom had her hips replaced where she was able to receive her Physical Therapy in house. A year later, after a devastating fall at her home, and her release from a Level 1 Trauma Center, Juniper Village and their staff helped us get her into their Skilled Nursing division where she received regular and intensive Physical and Occupational Therapy while recovering from numerous devastating skeletal injuries and a traumatic brain injury. This was when we realized that Mom wasn’t able to be on her own anymore. It was time to make a permanent move for her safety. With the love, attention and intensive therapy she received at The Inn at Juniper, their Skilled Nursing division, she was able to level up’ to Assisted Living at The Pines at Juniper Villages. Her apartment is BEAUTIFUL! She has her own gigantic efficiency apartment with her own bathroom with a walk in shower with a seat, a sitting room, living room, partitioned bedroom that accommodates a Queen sized bed, a full upright dresser and a loveseat and still has plenty of room to move around! It is free of clutter, any sort of trip hazards or obstacles. The living room accommodates a regular sized couch, two person breakfast nook, a coffee table, the worlds most fancy electric recliner 😉 and there is STILL plenty of room for her to do whatever activities or exercise she would like in her room. The closet is very large and easily accommodates all seasons of clothing. The peaceful covered and furnished patio, garden and stocked Koi pond right outside her door is a beautiful and quiet place for us to walk, share snacks and visit. Did I mention that they have Happy Hour every day? Yes - that makes all of us happy! We were even allowed to bring in a small refrigerator freezer for snacks and to keep her wine chilled!! The apartment was freshly painted in colors that we chose and brand new carpet installed just prior to her moving in. The Concierge Staff, Sales, Medical Personnel, Activities, Therapy, Dietary/Nutrition, Facilities Managers, Patient Advocate, Patient Valet/Scheduler and Administrators were all front and center for every step of her journey. I am able to call any one of those people at any time and always get a response back very quickly. I’m certain that I required more hand-holding’ than most but the staff never ever made me feel like I was a burden or that I was unrealistic. Every single person we interacted with was helpful and kind - that has also continued through to this day a year later. We are so pleased that we chose Juniper Village for my Mother. I highly recommend Juniper Village for all Long and Short Term Care for your loved one. Michelle Mitinger EMT-P, RN

I have been to Juniper a few times over the past couple of months to gather information for my mom who is looking for independent living with the option of continuous care so she can age in place. All I can say is Juniper and the staff have been phenomenal. Most of my visits to Juniper have been unannounced but it didn't matter because each time I was greeted with warm smiles and friendly and receptive staff members - ready and willing to answer all my questions. They are incredibly nice, knowledgeable and courteous! The atmosphere at Juniper is very inviting and pleasant. I have been given a couple of tours and the place is clean, homey and very comfortable. The long and varied list of daily activities they offer is amazing; as well as so many other fantastic amenities. I highly recommend Juniper if you're looking for independent living to skilled nursing whether for yourself or your parent(s). My family is beyond thrilled that my mom will be calling Juniper her new home in the near future. Finding Juniper has definitely given our family peace of mind.

My mother lives in State College. Her children live far away. After finally realizing she could not continue living at home alone, and visiting several assisted living facilities, we chose Juniper Village at Brookline, The Inn. It was definitely the right decision. We worked with Cori who was very informative and understood how difficult it was to go through this process. She was very understanding of our concerns, and very reassuring, based on her experience. She made the transition for my mother, easy and comforting. My mother was very reluctant, stubborn, and scared to make the transition. Everyone at Juniper made the transition easy and welcoming. She has been there for 4 months. Cori and all of the staff enjoy their jobs, and you experience that. They care about my mom and enjoy being in her company. There are a variety of activities for the residents and they are always busy and active based on their interests. It is a relief and comfort to have my mom there.

Our family highly recommends The Inn at Juniper Village in State College, PA to anyone who is looking for a safe, clean, and happy place for a loved one to live and receive assisted care. Deciding to place an aging parent in a facility is a deeply personal, and typically rather difficult, process. One family’s reasons will likely differ from another’s. We were initially attracted to Juniper for these reasons: 1) Everyone (staff and residents!) we encountered was warm, welcoming, and friendly. 2) Mom has always cherished her time outside, so the outside was as important to us as the inside. The Juniper grounds and mature landscaping are simply beautiful. 3) The staff were very flexible in working with us to accommodate mom’s particular needs. 4) The facility didn’t have any off odors like other facilities that we visited did. 5) The price was as reasonable as can be expected for the kind of care Juniper provides. Mom moved into Juniper 20 months ago, and we couldn’t be happier with the decision. After an expected adjustment period, Mom has settled in quite nicely to her life at Juniper. She enjoys attending the daily fitness classes and happy hours, as well as many of the other various activities offered. The nursing staff has consistently been responsive and caring. The food is reportedly very good. Mom loves sitting on any of the numerous porches and listening to the birds and looking at the flowers. We’re feeling now like we made a brilliant decision.

I highly recommend The Pines at Juniper Village to anyone considering a move to assisted living. The staff is incredibly caring and attentive, always making sure the residents feel cared for and comfortable. They offer a variety of activities that keep the residents active and engaged. The facility is clean and well maintained, with cozy common areas and beautiful outdoor scenery. My wife has been well taken care of and continues to thrive in her environment. My deep felt thanks to Cori Kulupson for her caring and encouraging help with her guidance into Juniper.

My 93-year old mother pays $5,300/month for a 2- BR apartment in the independent living unit at Juniper Village. For this overpriced, underwhelming experience, she gets one meal a day that is loaded with carbs (she’s a diabetic!!) and is reminiscent of cafeteria-level food: cheap, fast, and unimaginative. This is an aging building, so maintenance needs are constant. In her 2+ years there, there have been multiple issues with the land-line telephone service, “forcing” residents to maintain cell phone service AND a fully charged phone at all times. The refrigerator/freezer in her unit conked out several times resulting in a lot of wasted food, yet a replacement was not ordered until the third time. Recurring plumbing issues have required the water to be turned off for days in a row, while residents must use jugged water that never seems to be in adequate supply. Most recently the garbage disposal in her kitchen sink spontaneously fell off and she had water all over her kitchen. The worst part of all these maintenance/safety issues is that she can never reach any staff member by phone for help! There is no emergency line (non-medical) and no help whatsoever on the weekends. The one time that she (mistakenly) pressed the medical call button, a response finally came over 2 hours later. Any attempts she has made to reach any staff member by phone, aside from the overworked maintenance crew, have been ignored. Her messages are never returned. This treatment of the residents, who pay so much money each month, is unconscionable. Shame on you, Juniper Village. Juniper is a FOR PROFIT enterprise, which is highly evident in their care. The exterior of the building and grounds are always beautifully attended, which supports the age-old adage, “DO NOT judge a book by its cover”!! The differences between Juniper and the not-for-profit assisted living village a few blocks over (Yes, I do mean Foxdale) are leagues apart. Choose carefully for your aged love ones.

Kirsten in Admissions is great to work with. Coming from a hospice employee myself, contacting her for available respites are always a breeze. Quick and effective communication.

My dad received excellent care while he lived at Juniper. I look back at the year he lived at Juniper with fondness and gratitude for everyone who cared for my dad and who helped me navigate the many twists and turns of helping your dad find the best care possible. You will be so glad you helped your relative find a warm, comfortable, interesting, and safe place to call home. Thank you, Juniper.

I have been very happy with the care my relative is getting at Juniper! The staff is beyond amazing, so helpful, knowledgeable, positive, and empathetic. They take such good care of them. My relative has enjoyed the community of people --residents who gather for happy hour, exercise, meals, and family events, and staff who also engage them in these events and activities. It sounds clich©, but Juniper really is a community, not a facility, and that is because of the people who work there. The energy of the place is calming. And, the grounds are spectacular, with mountain views, rolling hills, and lush gardens --and even a koi pond and waterfall. The various physical therapies and nursing services are also a tremendous boon to my relative's health and well-being. I had no idea an assisted living place could be this all around great and good for a person's health and outlook. This past weekend was a big family picnic but it really was a big party. With a great local band. And good food and cartoonist. So much fun! And, again, everyone is just so darn warm and engaging. I look forward to visiting every time. Awesome work, Juniperians!

Great caring staff and administrators. A number of daily activities to keep residents involved. A secure and safe facility. Family and friends welcome to visit with their loved one at any time. You can also call the nurse on duty at any time to inquire how your loved one is doing. Appreciate all that the staff are doing.

The entire staff and management at the skilled care side starting with Kurt were tremendous. My Mother was well cared for in a tough situation. I was impressed with how well the team worked with hospice. I have very mixed reviews with her stay at the assisted living side, the "Inn". She was there for two years and really enjoyed her stay. The daily staff seems to take good care of her. The meals and activities were excellent. However the management there was very tardy in their response time and that is if they responded at all. You can guess how impressed we were when the manager of the Inn ducked our of sight to avoid us when we went in to clean out Mom's room. Be vigilant with your loved one if they are placed there. Ask for details on plans of care and who monitors it. If that manager worked for me they would be updating their resume.

Dear Mr.Knauff, I first want to thank you for the many courtesies that you and all of those employed by Juniper Village extended to me, which enabled my recovery to go very well. You can be very proud of each and every person who had any contact with me. This certainly includes the kitchen staff, the Chef, the housekeepers, and each and every LPN, RN, PA, OT, and PT. Our case manager continued to keep us informed, especially concerning insurance. I’ve had the pleasure of watching your dedicated staff, for several weeks. My wife and I want to thank, all of those that created an atmosphere of pride, spirit, and work ethic. Sincerely, Dave Schuckers

Juniper was our choice for Mom downsizing from home. Consider- No more maintenance, grocery shopping, snow worries or mowing! The transition from home to independent living and then to assisted living was made easy by the entire staff. The community, food, and facilities have been great and the activities help keep her engaged and active!

The staff members at JV at Brookline are awesome! My mother needed assisted living care after her stay at Skilled Nursing. Although wanting to be in her own home, she realized it was no longer safe for her to be there by herself. Mom had negative thoughts about assisted living initially but has completely changed her mind mostly due to the care she receives at JV. She is now content there & has established a wonderful relationship with a staff member who calls my mom "her buddy." The facility is beautiful & clean & the staff is super helpful, especially during this time of the pandemic. They go out of their way to make the residents comfortable & to make up for the lack of family time. I highly recommend JV at Brookline if assisted living is required for a loved one.
