My experience with Newhaven Court at Clearview began 18 months ago when I moved my brother there from an independent living facility in Massachusetts. After 6 months in the Newhaven Court main assisted living area the staff and I determined that he would be best served by moving to Life Stories, Newhaven's memory care section. It was the best thing we could have done. My brother now receives specialized attention and is doing better than he has in years. We have nothing but good things to say about all of the Newhaven Court personnel, especially those in the Life Stories area. They go out of their way to make him feel like an important part of his new family.

I've been a resident now for over 7 years. I've been happy in my 1-bedroom unit since the day I moved in. I came in as an independent resident and about a year ago I began receiving assisted living help. The entire staff here is attentive, responsive to my needs, kind and professional. The inside and outside areas of the property are very well maintained. The 3 meals a day are very good. There are choices of entrees at every meal. Overall, I can't imagine living anywhere else.

I'm a California resident and POA for an 87-yr old family member (John S.) living in Butler, PA. Seven months ago we moved John into his new senior apartment at Newhaven Court at Clearview in Butler following the sale of his long time home. My family & I have nothing but praise and gratitude for Alma Plunkard, the Director of Move-Ins. Our search for a suitable, safe, comfortable senior community for John began a year before John's actual move-in date. We peppered Alma with questions in person, by phone and via email during that time to make sure a move into Newhaven Court was the right thing to do. She hung in there with us right through John's move-in day in September 2018. John loves his new life at Newhaven Court at Clearview. The staff's work at Newhaven Court is not easy. We're glad they are there and are working hard every day to help all of their residents including our guy, John.

Both parents were there earlier this year, they were so accommodating to all of their needs and it was obvious that they genuinely cared for their well being. Dad wanted to be home during his final days is the only reason they left, however, even afterwards they stayed in contact to see how my parents were doing. After dad passed, they welcomed mom back with open arms and no less than 10 staff members greeted her by name. Living out of state, it is very comforting knowing that they are being taken care of and mom is very happy to be there. Highly recommend!!

I have had many positive experiences both personally and professionally. My some of family have lived/do live on the property. The building itself has been recently renovated and the residents seem to be enjoying it. The staff is always attentive to visitors and those that call it home. I also work for a hospice agency and for the past few years have participated in helping with resident bingo, co-host the meetings for family support group for those residents with Alzheimer’s and recruiting Santa at Christmas time. In February, we found ourselves in an unexpected situation of finding care for Mom who suffers from dementia. At the time, her stay was supposed to be short-term (respite care). Six months later, we’re realizing that short-term is becoming longer term. Newhaven Court was very flexible as we went through the difficult decision of placing Mom. Having never been through the process, they helped us understand the different Communities, services and costs. When we placed Mom, we had no idea how quickly her needs would change. Dementia is not a one-size fits all disease and it’s certainly not stagnant or predictable. Mom’s needs have changed quickly since moving in and being able to remain in a familiar setting that can accommodate her changing needs is important. Newhaven meets the residents where they are. They don’t force adherence to routines. Their dedicated Memory Care Community allows Mom the freedom to explore in a safe space that extends far beyond her bedroom. Wandering and exploring within the Community is a common pastime for a lot of residents. Napping is also common in the Community as well as planned and impromptu activities with staff. Having a non-family member become the caregiver for Mom has been challenging. It’s difficult to accept that we aren’t able to offer the best care at home and I’m not sure that we’ve actually achieved acceptance. When we’re not in charge, there is a tendency to take notice of everything that we would do differently. Relinquishing the role as primary caregiver is tough, but we try to focus on being a supportive family members. Being part of the Memory Care Community is much larger than being there just for Mom. We aren’t experiencing this disease in a silo. The Community is comforting because we’re not alone and it’s equally as disheartening because so many are suffering just like us. The Community helps us to not only understand how dementia impacts our Mom, but how it impacts others within the Community. There are 18 residents in Memory Care. We know all of them by name and look forward to seeing them when we visit Mom. We don’t know their stories, but we treat them how we want Mom to be treated, with respect and dignity. Filters on word choice, personal space and belongings are sometimes overlooked by residents. Reminding ourselves that they mean no ill-will or harm is important. Mom does things now that she would never have done 10 years ago. We are grateful for the patience and understanding of staff, as well as others in the Community, when these situations occur. Is everything perfect at New Haven Court? No. But there are opportunities to get involved and provide input, both informally and formally through monthly meetings, with Newhaven leadership. We are learning to accept where we are and know that we’re all doing the best we can. Mom is safe and treated with dignity even when she has challenging days. We’ve come a long way since move-in day which ranks right up there as one of the most heart-wrenching and emotional days ever. It felt like we were dropping a kid at camp for the first time and had no idea how long camp would last. Would she be afraid, would she find a friend, would she like the food, would she sleep o.k.? Major renovations were in process at Newhaven when we first visited, but the lobby, common areas, and Memory Care were very homey. With a furnished bedroom, we could bring in things that were familiar to her and would make her more comfortable. Six months after moving in, Mom has gained probably 15 pounds, so there is no doubt that Mom is eating well and enjoying meals. When we visit, she is generally around other residents and content. Sometimes, she doesn’t move to sit with us! She has adjusted, more easily than the rest of us. Dementiathe disease that robs us of loved ones little by little and piece by piece. We essentially go through a grieving process every time there is a decline. The compassion of the staff, whether they realize it or not, helps us get through the day.

As a nurse myself, who has seen behind the curtains of many other health care facilities, I was absolutely terrified when I was told my grandma would be moving into New Haven. She had to move in because she needed more assistance than our working family could provide, she needed around the clock care and getting in-home care was not working out very well. My grandma has now been at New Haven for over 2 years and I could not be more happy with the care she receives and the kindness of the staff. The facility is VERY clean and they offer tons of activities for the residents and often include the families! I would definitely recommend this place to others looking for a personal care home for their loved one!

I recently toured this facility for an elderly friend and found it clean, bright, cheerful, and welcoming. I was greeted immediately upon entering. Staff offered me a tour of this beautiful facility. It gave me a feeling of home and and everyone I met seemed truly happy to be there. Residents and staff alike. The residents we bumped into during the tour were happy to see me. I was greeted with smiles and friendly conversations. I was impressed with the staff. They spoke to the residents with respect and seemed eager to help them with whatever they were doing. Due to my mothers failing health and her care being above and beyond what we are capable of doing, we had to move my mother into Newhaven Court at Clearview. We had toured Newhaven as well as the other two personal care homes in Butler the summer of 2022. We wanted to be proactive and sure that when the decision had to be made, that we all (mom included) had researched all of our options, and had made the best choice for her and her needs. From the beginning, NewHaven stood out to us, and just felt right. We had dealt with Tracy from the beginning and she was a huge positive in our decision making. She was able to answer any questions that we had. She really understands what a family is going through and helps ease the stress involved in this tough decision. One of the biggest things we noticed immediately upon moving in is that absolutely every employee greets you when they see you. Within a matter of just a few days they all knew my mother’s name and needs as well as us. I swear they must have a picture and bio on every single resident that all employees must study and learn when a new resident arrives. I’m also extremely impressed when you have a question or issue about anything that they really do get right back to you with an answer or solution. Their follow-through is amazing. Every employee makes a point to learn what is needed and wanted for my mom so as to make this a positive experience. My mother had spent the last 50 years in the same home along with my father so her coming here is an extreme shock. It is taking a bit for her to acclimate herself to her new way of life but everyone at Newhaven has made a point to help her with whatever is needed to make this transition more smooth. We feel comfortable knowing that everyone there has mom’s best interest and quality of care in mind. I feel completely comfortable recommending Newhaven Court @ Clearview to anyone looking for personal care for a family member.

I love New Haven Court and I want to go there if I need assisted Living. My mother was there when her Alzheimers became too much to keep her at home even with 24hr I home care. She loved it there! She said "I would have came here sooner if I knew how beautiful it was ". She enjoyed the bird sanctuary and having sing a longs at Christmas with someone playing the piano there. I worked in town so I could stop after work and have dinner with her. The food was excellent. The staff were very friendly and took great care of her. The entire place was clean and decorated very well. We also did not need to sell our family home to pay for her care,which was always a concern of my mothers.
