My Father spent the final year of his life at The Hearth at Drexel, in the memory care unit, and I am so incredibly grateful that he had that time there. He was treated with so much dignity, compassion, and true caring by all of the amazing staff there. I highly recommend The Hearth to anyone looking for a facility for a loved one.

My mother Chloe resided at the Hearth for 6 1/2 years! When she passed away last month, they held a "walk of honor" for her. As I walked by the staff that lined the hallway, I realized how close we had become. Most of them had been working there previous to mom's admission. That tells me the the administration is doing something right to keep them happily employed. I loved visiting when there was a live jeopardy game or card game in the living room because the residents got involved. The art classes, history lectures and special programs gave mom something to look forward to. The food choices are spectacular. Mom raved about the bourbon salmon, beef tenderloin, variety of desserts and the coffee! The staff was aware of her failing before I was. They hospitalized her four times, extending her life. They knew and cared for mom tenderly; showing affection and joking with her. I admitted her in the fall of 2017 with the promise that when her time comes they would bring hospice to her apartment instead of sending her out to a hospital. With such familiar surroundings and faces, mom's passing was relatively easy and calm. I highly recommend The Hearth At Drexel. For my family it was a very very good experience.

We relocated my mother in law to the Hearth six months ago and couldn't be more pleased with our decision. Coming from out of state it was a very stressful time filled with anxiety and sadness for her old home. It took a good month or so till she really became comfortable and used to her new routine. Throughout it all we found the staff genuinely cared for her and were supportive of us as well. We live nearby so visit regularly and speak to all the staff frequently. No matter if temporary or staff we have come to know, we have always found them to be helpful, agreeable and sincere. I have never met anyone with anything but a positive attitude. Honestly I respect and admire all the staff I have met from the top down. We have looked at many Senior Care facilities and am very grateful we found The Hearth for our loved one.

My father moved to the Hearth at Drexel in June of 2023. He was welcomed warmly from the very start, engaged in the community, and even complimented the delicious meals from day 1. We visit often and know the Hearth at Drexel is the right place for our dad.

My husband who has Alzheimer's has been a resident at The Hearth for over a year. I needed to make sure he was in a place that took care of him and provided a safe and engaging environment. They respect him and take excellent care of his needs. While no place is as perfect as being in your own home circumstances can make that impossible.i am fortunate he is living in a residential environment with caring staff.

We have had my husbands grandmother at the hearth for a couple of years now. We are quite happy with the facility, each person has their own studio/apartment which really makes it feel like home. The Hearth went out of their way to make our loved one feel comfortable as she transitioned into the setting, with warmth and compassion. They have fun programs such as art, bingo, musical programs, holiday programs, and intellectually stimulating programs for residents to attend. There is also a salon for hair and nails which is an absolute favorite and regularly utilized by our family member. Previously our family member had in home health aids, but that was rather lonely. Now she has many social opportunities on a daily basis even with any of the Covid precautions that were put into place. We like the location very much and are able to easily visit. I would definitely recommend this facility to others.

The Hearth is a beautiful facility. Unfortunately, the staff are not adept at handling a high level of care. My Dad is bed ridden and was unable to receive the care he needed. If your loved one is able to ambulate and move on their own, then this facility may be right for you. I would avoid if your loved one is totally depandant on someone for the activities of daily living. There were a few staff that visibly showed their frustration in front of my Dad and sisters regarding how they were going to care for him, and for this reason I must say that my family is disappointed in our short(3 week) experience with The Hearth staff. I must say that Administration and Nursing did try thier best to work with us to help my Dad transition, but overall it was unsuccessful and we moved my Dad to a smaller facility near by that is providing one on one care.

My sister moved into the Memory Care Center at the Hearth at Drexel last March. I have nothing but praise for the way my sister has been taken care of by the friendly and helpful staff. In addition, her living space is roomy (bedroom, bath, sitting room, dining area, kitchenette), and attractive, and well-maintained. The food--I've tasted it--is delicious. Of course, I was a bit apprehensive at first about leaving my sister to the care of others, but I can honestly say that she seems very happy at The Hearth. She's always laughing and smiling whenever we visit, and a heavy weight has been lifted off our shoulders knowing that she likes being where she is. It's a great comfort.

Our Mom relocated to The Hearth at Drexel in November of 2019 from another assisted living center. At the time she moved in she was 89 years old . Our / her experience has been extreme positive, especially during the height of the pandemic. The staff is friendly and attentive to her needs and any requests we have made . A variety of activities are available to all residents. Special requests are addressed timely and the attention to detail and responsiveness across the board has added to our Mom positive experience. Communication during the lock down was consistent and remains that way today . . Very little turnover at the management level which is positive . The common areas are clean and well-maintained. If you are looking for an assisted living facility along the mainline close to Center City and other access roots look no further than The Hearth at Drexel

My family member has been living at The Hearth for 5 and a half years now. I can't speak highly enough about the staff. From the administrators, to the nursing staff, to housekeeping, dining, and maintenance, there is such caring and concern for all the residents. They have been doing a phenomenal job of keeping everyone safe during this pandemic. The teamwork is wonderful - it's not unusual to find the head of dining wheeling a resident to where they need to be, or to find the director "doing hair." Because it is small, there will definitely be fewer activities and resources; however, the size make The Hearth feel like a home.

First, note that the most recent review here is written by the admissions director, Kylie, which should make you ask why they have to make their own reviews! There are a number of great things about the Hearth at Drexel: the ambiance, the facility, and the philosophy that guides them and the senior staff. For those things, I give them the three stars. However, looking back on my mother's time here in the memory care facility, key things were lacking. The Hearth struggled to create a sense of team or standards for performance of their care teams, and to put in place a kind and caring team committed to the residents. Staffing levels are insufficient for a place that charges what they do and is trying to provide memory care, but as a daughter, I would have gladly paid more if it meant someone kind and engaged was caring for my mother during this last phase of her life. Records were not electronic, and were inconsistent in their accuracy and completeness. The caregivers were too often glued to their phones, turnover seemed high, and backfilling was sluggish, meaning that all shifts were not covered. What I learned during the time my mother lived here is that you need to look behind the veneer. A beautiful place is not necessarily a place that is executing on their mission. I got the impression that leadership was committed and sincerely tried to do so, but they did not have a bench of high quality CNAs, so caregivers were not engaged or demonstrating true interest in the residents. One of our private caregivers said to me after being there, "I know the work is hard, and they probably don't get paid that much, but you don't have to WEAR it!" Do your research and visit visit visit. See them in action. The reality is that a senior living facility is a very hard model to execute on and there will be gaps. But the care is the most important part and we found ourselves wishing we'd looked at that piece more closely.

My Dad, Ernie, was a resident for almost 3 year in the Memory Care unit, until he recently passed away there. My family and I are so happy with the care he received from the day he entered up until his last moments. We would visit my Dad almost every day and was able to see how caring the staff was, not only with my Dad but all of the residents. I will never forget the day we went to check out the facility before we made the decision... one of the staff members was walking down the hall with a huge grin just talking the to a resident... and we just happened to go by at that time. She still had a huge grin throughout my Dads stay and gets the residents engaged. There are activities and trips going on all of the time. They played games, painted and had visiting animals, which they all loved. They would go to art centers, brewers, butterfly exhibits and the Phillies game, which 10 of us from my family joined in on. It was a great day made possible by the Hearth. We have been trying to get him to a game for years. There are too many fun activities to list. It always made my stay a little more fun too! There is a cafe that we would take my Dad to often because he loved coffee. It was nice because it was like going out and having a little fun. Also there is a theater that we did a family movie day and watch The Sound of Music. He loved it! And we were able to make another great memory! The theater is also great for watching the Eagles and Phillies. Which he loved. The staff would get them pumped up and decorate for big games. Anytime my dad got a cold or showed any signs of not feeling well, we were notified immediately. I would run right there because he became more like my son than my Dad over the last 8 years. I always felt that he was well taken care of and it eased our worry. No one really wants to think about their loved ones passing away... but my Dad did pass there and while it was happening the staff at the Hearth gave us so much support. They would stop in and check on us. They sent comfort carts with beverages, fruit and snacks to hold us over, every day for a few days. They shared their stories and experiences they had with my Dad to comfort us. He touched their lives too. We are all so happy that my Dad was able to live the last years of his life with so much care, fun and love. Thank you everyone at The Hearth!

My mom (who is in the final stages of Alzheimers) stayed here for 15 days while my father took a much needed vacation. I couldnt have been more impressed with the facility, her room and the caring staff. The main gathering room and dining area is beautiful, kept extremely clean and there was always staff there making sure everyone was looked after and safe. It was such a relief for my family knowing my mom was in such good hands after a horrible experience at a different respite care facility two years prior. My only regret is that it took me way too long to write my review of our experience!

My mom has been at The Hearth at Drexel for a little over a year now. I cant say enough about the caring staff, and how comfortable she is there. She likes the small community feel that she gets there, and takes advantage of just about all of the activities provided. While there have been some growing pains as The Hearth expands, the staff had been nothing but caring, friendly, competent, and patient. Mom never thought shed want to live in a retirement or assisted living situation, but she is so happy here, and my family is thrilled with her care.

The Hearth at Drexel is unlike any senior living or Assisted Living facility that you have seen. They are a private facility, and in my estimate, a Boutique Assisted Living facility. My father moved into The Hearth at Drexel in January after having lost my mother in May. He had said he wanted to spend the rest of his years at home, however it became more and more apparent that this would not be possible. Leaving the home that he and my mother created and cherished for over 30 years created great anxiety, until the moment he came to visit The Hearth. He knew, what I knew, the moment we both stepped into the elegant foyer with the baby grand piano, the private chapel, the serene library, the double doors that lead to the peaceful outdoor terrace and more importantly, when he met Charity, Pam, Jennifer, Betty, Warren, David, Dan, Karita, Yolanda, Sheila, May and all of the other lovely people that welcomed him, that this is where he would spend the remainder of his life. And love it. Dont take my word for it, take his. He calls me at least three times a week before bedtime to thank me for bringing him there and to tell me how happy he is. Nothing could make me feel better about the very difficult decision to separate him from his home. If you have an older parent that would like to socialize more rather than stay home alone, or one that cannot stay home because of expenses or health, please consider The Hearth. My father requires a good amount of care and he is well cared for. He loves the time that he spends with his friends over breakfast and dinner ( he prefers to eat lunch watching CNN) and then loves watching movies, playing dominoes or Bingo or watching a classic movie in front of the fireplace in the living room. His spacious apartment has accommodated his many photographs and paintings that Warren so lovingly and professionally hung. He is able to get his hair cut there in the very professional beauty salon and have a nutritionist help plan his meals so that he eats healthy. He sees Dr. Ellis every Friday and gets individualized attention. I could go on and on, but if you are reading this testimonial because you are thinking of having a loved one move into a facility, then take it from someone that visited 9 places before I even heard about The Hearth, you will be thankful that you chose The Hearth. I am just grateful that I found out about The Hearth when I did because I was set on sending my father someplace else (half heartedly) and I would have regretted it. If you want to talk to me about my experiences and my fathers, please feel free to call The Hearth and ask for my cell number. I will happy to help you with your decision! Lucia D. Pernot
