Reviews Symphony Square
July 2026
Let me say up front, that I rarely post these types of reviews. However, based on what my mother and our family have experienced here, I am making an exception. Recently, my mother was unexpectedly hospitalized and based on her medical condition, we knew that she was going to have to go into assisted living once she was discharged. Since my mother needed about a two to three week stay at a rehabilitation center, my wife and I had a limited window of time to find the ideal place for my mom once she left the hospital. After talking with family and conducting some on-line research, my wife and I initially identified six places to set up face to face visits. With very little time and a strong sense of urgency, we were able to narrow our list down and identify our top two choices. After several extensive meetings with those top two residencies, we walked away knowing that without any reservation that Symphony Square Assisted Living in Bala Cynwyd would be the ideal place for my mother to become part of a family-like community where she would thrive. From our first interactions with "Dee" Saahir (director of Sales and marketing) and Maryanne Watral (executive director), there was an instant connection. Based on our initial conversations, it was immediately evident that the healthcare and business infrastructure that was in place was well thought out and running smoothly. After multiple visits, what we really came to see and appreciate was that it wasn't just the leaders that cared deeply about the residents' well-being. It was ALL departments, (medical, nursing, care takers, activities maintenance, kitchen staff, etc. In the end, what really sold us on Symphony Square was the everyday genuine, empathetic sense of caring that the entire team of leaders and staff collectively provided for their residents. When my wife and I left from our third and final visit, we knew without second guessing, that this would be the ideal place for my mom. When the time came, we moved Mom in and right away, everything that we initially thought about Symphony Square proved to be true. So, if you are looking for an assisted living residence that is well run, and genuinely, compassionately cares about its residents, I highly recommend that you strongly consider all that Symphony Square has to offer for you and your loved one.

April 2025 UPDATE: Symphony Square was truly amazing to my father and our entire family. Led by the incredible Theresa, the staff treated every resident with unwavering compassion, respect, and kindness. They foster a warm, fun, and loving environment that made my dad feel at home. When my father recently passed, the team stood by us with so much care and grace through every step of that difficult journey. It’s clear that this work is a true calling”and the team at Symphony Square is extraordinary. I would wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone looking for a loving, respectful, and supportive community 2021 I cannot say enough great things about the team at Symphony Square. My father has been a resident in Memory Care for the last 18+ months. The staff members are so kind and patient and they are always coming up with new ways to engage the residents. Theresa is a dedicated and inspiring leader. She does a great job communicating with my family so we feel informed and empowered about any developments with my dad. Most importantly, everyone really cares about the health and happiness of the residents. There is a lot of personal attention and quality time with each person.

My husband Carl was at the Memory Care at Symphony Square for over four years. The care and attention he received was beyond anything I could have hoped for. It became his second home for that long time. The staff is truly outstanding. They treated him so carefully and respectfully it was amazing. He recently passed away and the care they showed our family was just unbelievable. It was the most difficult time in our lives and we were treated so well. Thank you Theresa and your entire loving staff. You are all doing God’s work. I would recommend Symphony Square to all people that are looking for a safe and loving environment for their loved ones. M.Viola

I interact mostly with the staff in the memory care unit. They are attentive, and know the residents well enough to recognize when something is not right. This is critical, because the resident may not be able to vocalize it. Teresa, the Wellness Director, is very involved in ensuring things run smoothly and with an eye to the residents' comfort.
March 2025
My father lives at Symphony Square in the Memory Care Unit. Unfortunately, I live several states away. I am very grateful to Theresa Lawrence and all the staff for not only taking great care of him but also helping me stay connected. They set up FaceTime visits, give me updates, and let me know if he needs anything. My dad is comfortable and happy. Thank you to the Memory Care Unit for all you do!
February 2025
Michael was most helpful and reassuring from the moment we met him. Answered all questions, and staff was welcoming and made mom feel welcomed from day one. It has been good teamwork between staff and our family. There are plenty of activities to partake in for residents, apartment comfortable as well, thank you Mike, Randi and team! Isabelle
January 2025
My family and I have been very happy with Symphony Square. Michael was very helpful with giving us all the information we needed to make a decision as well as ensuring that the move-in process was welcoming and stress-free. Additionally, all of the staff has been great.
January 2025
My mom lived at Symphony Square til she passed away in January 2025. She move in was totally self sufficient until last year. It was great place for her. Great great friendly and go out of thier way and caring staff. The last six months were bad for my mom - she went down hill pretty quickly and Symphony was beyond wonderful and sincerely caring. I totally recommend them.
January 2025
We got to meet with Michael Lando at Symphony Square. More than wanting to sell a room for our grandmother, he wanted to inform and educate us, unlike any other place we went to. He listens, he cares and offers ideas and solutions. We are sorry we didn’t move our grandmother there before she left us
December 2024
Michael Lando has been extremely helpful and thoughtful during this process. He has done a great job of managing multiple family members with a very human touch.

4 IStarted this off with giving SYLVIA 5 STARS BECAUSE SHE IS OUTSTANDING,but my review of her seems to have disappeared. SHEIS DEFINITELY A 5 STAR EMPLOYEE - areal treasure. I ALSO WANT to give BRYAN a 5 STAR RATING. He is so helpful and experienced in every aspect of any problem that comes up, and is so quickly responds to any issue that is brought to him - even problems that might not be something in the usual ones he d deals with. He has such a pleasant agreeable helpful attitude, and quickly takes. care of the problem. and goes further to avoid future problems. I could go on and on complimenting him, but it still would not be enough. Barbara Zimmerman. I also want to recognnize Tom and Mike the therapists and give each of them a 5 star rating. They have both been very helpful and I have certainly improved greatly with their therapy, and would certainly like to continue or restart therapy when I can. Symphony Square, Sue Kelly and the entire staff are absolutely amazing! Sue helped us discern what was best and always put my family’s interests first. We are so happy that our loved one has a home at Symphony Square!
November 2023
5 stars are not enough for the wonderful experience I have had with this community. Susan Kelly was warm and professional from the moment we met. She took what was an otherwise sad and terrifying experience and made it something positive. Her knowledge about the community and ability to prepare me for what came next are unmatched. I am looking forward to seeing my loved one flourish with the help of this awesome team.
January 2023
The love we feel for our Mom prompted my sister & I to transition her from a place that wasn't adequately meeting her needs to Symphony Square. There's a definite contrast between where Mom was versus the feeling of community that Symphony Square exudes. Susan (Dir of Sales & Marketing), Claudette (Dir of Nursing) and other staff considered Mom's individualized needs when planning for her care. We also noted the large number of staff who have been @ Symphony Square for many years, which allows residents to feel more secure versus a community where staff and contractors are constantly shifting in and out. In addtion, the building's layout and the way activities are incorporated throughout the day lends itself to engagement and interaction amongst the residents. Mom shared, "I'm glad I'm meeting people that I have something in common with. I'm also impressed with the staff becasue they're pleasant and patient." When our 94 year old Mom is happy, our family is happy. What a blessing to be part of the Symphony Square Community! Wish we'd discovered it years ago.
November 2022
Theresa and her staff in Memory Care provided such peace of mind to our family knowing my Mom was in the best place with amazing care. We will be forever grateful to everyone including the sweet residents.
September 2022
Theresa who runs the memory unit is fantastic. She goes well beyond the call of duty to make the experience as good as possible.
May 2022
Since arriving at Symphony Square a month ago, Mom is a younger version of herself. She is active, engaged in daily activities and best of her, she has made friends. This boutique facility is led by the warm and wonderful Adrienne Stevens who knows every resident and is present in the building, talking to the residents at mealtimes and during activities. Claudette, Director of Nursing, makes sure mom's medical needs are met. I no longer need to be on top of everything- Claudette has it covered. Every staff member I have met at Symphony knows my mom (and me!) and works to make her life better. My sister and I were so exhausted from worrying about her care and her well-being. Now we can relax. We couldn't be happier!

We looked at a dozen options for a caring home for my grandmother and are so glad we chose symphony square. The staff go above and beyond on a daily basis. They stay in close contact with us and have made the time not only to get to know my grand mother personally, but to get to know our family. It’s not a huge place, which is great because she gets a lot of personal attention, especially now that she is in memory care. It can be a tough decision and adjustment to move a loved one into assisted living. Symphony square has helped us with that transition and we are very grateful.
February 2022
We love Symphony Square in Bala Cynwyd for our 93 year old Mom. As you walk in, you are greeted with warmth and light heartedness. The main areas are pleasant and inviting. The daily activities and celebrations are engaging. Best of all, the staff from director on down is attentive and caring. Hazel, the activity director, is the best! Covid protections are well maintained. We feel Mom is safe and well-cared for.
January 2022
Very pleased to say my father has been a resident for almost 8 years. Wonderful, kind, helpful and caring management and staff. Service is great and all needs( personal care, physical therapy, nursing) are met. Well maintained beautiful building, facilities and individual resident living areas.

September 2020
Symphony Square is a lovely place. The environment is very comfortable and my friend has been safe from the Covid virus there, albeit quarantining in her room. I have been able to visit due to the gracious planning of the Recreation specialist there. The building is well lit and decorated with inspirational messages and beautiful artwork. I am permitted to visit from a distance and I don't mind wearing a mask as long as I can visit my friend. The Physical and Occupational Therapists have been wonderful!
September 2020
My wife Linda has been in your memory care wing for almost 2 months now, and it is amazing to see her happy again. Theresa is a blessing. Caring, patient, informative, texting me photo's and video's. I couldn't ask for a better caregiver. Someday I hope to be able to actually go inside and spend some real quality time with my wife again. Everyone who works in Symphony Square during these trying times, is a hero in my book.
September 2020
I am so satisfied with the services. The best feeling is waking up knowing that the person you love dearly is being cared for with love. Mr Darryl who is the medication technician is very kind , respectful , compassionate and caring. He’s the type of person you need in a assisted living facility. Symphony square thank you. Happy with the care of my loved one
September 2020
The staff is caring and attentive. The memory care unit is professional and responsive to needs of community residents. Theresa Lawrence has been creative in engaging my husband in activities and for that I’m very grateful.
September 2020
To all the Symphony Square team, THANK YOU for all you do! Through this pandemic, all staff in this community consistently demonstrate their commitment to the residents well being with a personal approach! The whole wellness team lead by Claudette taking the time to understand every person's situation and how to best manage, support, and provide them access to the care they need. Dominic making every effort to keep family and residents engaged while still being safe. Theresa leading memory care, making sure residents get exceptional care while also finding ways to bring residents joy. This community is exceptional and it is ever more apparent during these challenging times.
September 2020
It’s been over a year but during this time . I met a great care giver. One who stood out was a tech/cna by the name of Darryl. My love one doesn’t give him a hard time, Mr Daryl w. Is very caring, and understanding of his duties. Having him present at the facility has relieved me and my family so much. Overall I’m happy with the services at Symphony square

Symphony sq has done an exceptional service to the residents who live there and the team of great caring employees who work there. So many wonderful employees from the receptionist Dallas, to the team in memory care lead by Theresa to the Nursing staff lead by Claudette and Toni. All the kitchen staff keeping everyone belly’s full of great food to the maintenance and housekeeping staff keeping the building clean and sanitized. Mom lived the last years of her life at Symphony Square. She was treated with dignity and respect. Her medical care support was marvelous. She started in assisted living and moved to Memory Care where Theresa cared for her with love. Theresa is extremely skilled and qualified to run the unit. I never worried about mom; I always knew she was well cared for and was living in a wonderful environment.
August 2019
Our mom lives at Symphony Square in the Memory Care unit. The unit is managed by Theresa who has worked there for many years; she is hands-on and does it all (i.e. whatever is needed). The resident population is smaller than most, and the staff-to-resident ratio is excellent, higher than the other facilities we checked, which is one of the reasons we chose Symphony Square for our mom. The staff is friendly and caring towards the residents, and they get along well with each other also. The residents have a large, bright family room with many windows where they congregate for meals (the food is very good!), activities and TV watching. Overall, we've been very pleased with the care mom has gotten at Symphony Square in their memory care unit, and we would recommend it to anyone looking for this type of care for their family member.
August 2019
My dad lived at Symphony Square in memory care. The unit is managed by Theresa. They met my father needs that I was looking for. The staff are friendly toward the residents and knowledge in what they do. The place is clean. They have activities for them to do, food is good. They go on trip. My father loved living there. I would recommend it to anyone looking for place.
August 2018
Best place nice people and staff best care food good lot trip and lot music play bingo and lot show keep busy deaf people live there and we love them
May 2018
Looks like what I need. Permanently disabled. Need someone to help me get SSI.
January 2018
I recently toured this beautiful assisted living community. The employees were welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. They have an amazing activities program, parking garage and delicious food program. Skilled Nursing, Fox Therapy and several doctors have privileges within the community. They offered several different sized rooms with different pricing structure, several levels of care for my loved one.
December 2017
Understaffed and neglectful of residents. Close friend has seen this firsthand with his mom and other residents literally calling out for help, left in soiled clothing etc. I was moved to create a place for whistleblowers to come forward at https://www.symphonysquarewhistleblowers.com/
April 2015
My parents were residents of Symphony Square from October 2014 through April 2015. Everyone who worked at Symphony Square was very nice and accommodating. The place is high-end hotel beautiful. The assisted living area was fine, with activities and decent restaurant style dining. They are very passive, in that nobody will take the initiative and actually pro-actively do something, you have to ask for them to do anything. They are very accommodating and they do genuinely seem to care. ASSISTED LIVING is FINE. I DO NOT RECOMMEND the "MEMORY CARE/DEMENTIA" unit. Structurally, the design is very poor. Hallways lead to exit doors. Exit doors have windows either out to the garden or to the main activity area. Dementia patients are naturally drawn to activity, and they want to go where things are going on. That they can't is very upsetting to them. A good design has exit doors along the side of the hallway, and the hallway ending without an exit. Circular units are great, because the resident can safely wander but not find a way out. The carpet pattern is busy (should be a single shade, lighter, with dark boarders at the bottom of the wall) which makes it challenging for them to walk. Alzheimers and Dementia patients have visual issues and need different cues to navigate. Also they generally can't "watch" TV and prefer sound and music. The unit is small with 12 beds and up to 4 'day trippers'. They post activities each day but whether they actually happened seemed to be up to the staff if they wanted to or not. Many times the patients were parked in front of the TV and the staff went to text on their phones and talk to each other. There seems to be little training and oversight of the staff on a day to day basis, and there is getting to be some significant turnover. The staff mean well, but they clearly aren't given any kind of direction or incentive to do things with these residents, and so they don't. The breaking point for us was finding our mother completely naked in her room, no clothes anywhere nearby, incoherent and cold. Nobody could tell us how she got that way, and management just kept insisting their staff would never do that. Except they did. Please look elsewhere for Dementia or Alzheimer's Care. Understand that design matters a great deal for these vulnerable residents and good oversight of staff even more. This place is not what you need. For Assisted Living, it's great.
