I am going into my third year living at ParkRose Chateau and I love it! The Managers are wonderful with full access of their Open Door Policy. The Activity Director does an awesome job off offering numerous fun activities and is always open to suggestions. The building is bright and cheery inside and out. Our Maintenance Manager is always on top of his duties. I love our Family Atmosphere because we are smaller than many Senior Residences. I feel so spoiled by not having to cook or clean my apartment! Yes, Bette Lulu my cat is quite happy here too! I highly recommend my choice of Home!

Well it's been almost 3 months since I moved to Parkrose Chateau. The best move I ever made. Walking in the front door for the very first time I knew I was home. A very warm and inviting place. People here make it very easy to belong to one big wonderful family. Management, Cathy and Mary are always there to help answer your questions (even if you've asked them many times before). They are very patient with all of us. Cooks are great house keepers absolute best and servers are wonderful. There's lots to do but never enough hours in the day to do it all. I really have had and will continue to enjoy my time here at Parkrose Chateau.

I’ve lived at Parkrose Chateau just short of 3 years. It seems like there is an activity for everyone. We just started having cardiac drumming a few weeks ago. I really enjoy it. Now that the weather is a little warmer I’m back to walking the paved path all the way around the building. There are many inside activities offering a variety of things to do from watching movies, religious services, going on field trips to bean bag baseball. If you can’t find an activity you just aren’t looking hard enough. Our management team is wonderful.

I’m a harsh critic and not easily impressed, but Parkrose Chateau Gracious Retirement Living pleasantly exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a fantastic home to live and thrive. Moms only regret was that she didn’t move sooner. When Mom was ready for a move to independent living, we thoroughly researched and booked tours at several facilities. First up was Parkrose Chataeu as we liked it on paper and felt it was a good value. Criteria was: affordability, cleanliness, room options, ambiance, efficient & caring staff, friendliness of other residents, good food, diverse activities & social events, transportation to & from appointments/shopping, and a secure building. A long and exacting list to be sure, but mom is special and deserves the best. We all wanted her to feel comfortable and happy in her new digs. During our tour including a meal, we asked lots of questions and looked around with a critical eye. The welcoming outside grounds, common areas and available apartments were all immaculate with lovely views. A great start. It quickly became obvious that the friendly staff of office personnel, Chefs/servers, housekeeping, transportation, and maintenance, enjoy working at the Chateau. Their upbeat and caring attitude was contagious. The dedicated team works well together to provide a smooth running, enjoyable, and friendly environment. At the end of the day, we were greatly impressed. Parkrose Chateau had exceeded all of our wants and more. Our questions were favorably answered and our list met. We knew mom need not look any further. She had found her home.

Just wanted to take a moment to provide input to those that are looking for wonderful retirement community in Portland, OR. After dozens of hours of research, we had it narrowed down to six locations, with Parkrose Chateau Gracious Living looking the best on paper. My wife arranged a tour and we (my mother-in-law, wife, and myself) were impressed from the beginning. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. The grounds were immaculate, and the dining area and meals were very good. Everyone was very friendly. It was obvious both staff and residents were happy to be there. My mother-in-law has since moved in and been living there for several weeks, and we continue to be extremely pleased and impressed!! Our only regret is that she didn’t move in sooner! Kudos to the entire management and staff for creating a wonderful atmosphere with plenty of fun activities available every day.

We are so thankful for the Place and Community that Parkrose Chateau Retirement is. It's been a wonderful place for our Mom to live. The Management Staff as well as the Hospitality /Service Team are very caring and concerned about all of the Tenants. The meals and menu are very good, with nice options for every diet need. It's nice that the meals are served to each Individual, rather then cafeteria style. The building is bright and beautiful, with a lot of windows to bring in the outside. The gardens a very pretty. The building is managed and well kept. We are happy with the apartment that our Mom has, it has a nice layout, freshly decorated with a patio porch. It looks like the Calendar has a nice about if activities, as well as Field trips and Special Music offered. We enjoyed being there to visit our Mom, and the Staff was very hospitable to us as well.

This place is brilliant! We recently moved my mom in to her apartment and the staff couldn't have been warmer or more welcoming. We met with a couple of the resident ambassadors and they talked us through life at Parkrose. Cathy (the complex manager) showed us a few different units and talked about the amenities and events. Cathy is extremely knowledgeable and is a truly great individual. She knows all the residents by name and makes it a point to talk with everyone (I've come down for lunch and she still does it so I know it's who she is a person). Mom settled in quickly. I know this is a huge life change for a lot of people but it was amazing how many folks showed up to help her with the transition. Even for myself, who visits on the weekends, I look forward to stopping in and catching up, not just with Mom but with the residents that I have met here. There's plenty for residents to do (or not do if you just want to relax, there are no requirements). Meals, housekeeping, and transportation are all part of the package along with a social and outgoing crowd. It's a community, it's a family. It's very inclusive, very reasonable, and every bit as gracious as the name implies.

The best thing about this community is that it is a small community - you quickly get to know people and make friends. There have been many instances where we shared our joys and sorrows with each other - BECAUSE it is a small community and we are family to each other. As with all communities, there is a period of adjustment; some people adjust well and others can only find negativity. No place will be perfect. We have a wonderful, personable management team who work hard to make this place home for us as much as possible. The wait staff get to know us and we become more than just a resident to them, I think they actually enjoy the interaction with us as well.

It gets three stars because the people who work here work hard and are always polite. The company that owns this facility, Hawthorn, is the reason the score is low. The food is mediocre, the bus has no wheelchair lift (and Hawthorn refuses to add one or get a new bus), and there is only one maintenance person--and he can't keep up with things. Loneliness and cliques are rampant. It is clean.

I have lived at Parkrose Chateau since September of 2022. I love how the building is so bright. The 3 story atrium has ample windows that cast natural light through the whole entryway. There are a variety of floor plans and my one bedroom has large windows all across the exterior of the bedroom and living room to give loads of natural lighting.The meals rarely dissapoint because there are multiple choices at meals. A "heart healthy " choice is available at the two main meals (dinner and supper) for the many of us who have to watch our salt intake. The staff make holidays special with the marvelous food and decorations. What really makes this place wonderful is the people. Most of the residents are very friendly and you will find yourself making lasting friends if you are willing to participate. I say this with assurance because my wife ended up having to go through hospice here. Mary and Amy (assistant and general managers) were so sensitive, supportive and respectful during that time. Their care and sensitivity, as well as their can-do attitude in the face of every imagineable challenge will not ever be forgotten by me. It has been a pleasure getting to know the residents. Each one has so many amazing life stories. This is a great place for people who are ready for more convenience in life (meal prep, housecleaning etc.) but still get around independently.

UPDATE: Hawthorn's (new ownership) General Manager was let go several months ago, and since then services have gradually improved, in addition to Hawthorn initiating design and structural improvements (albeit necessary). It's apparent the previous manager was the main culprit of many of the horrific issues at Parkrose Chateau. My husband and I just returned from a visit, and are happy to report that my parents and other residents seem to be more content and pleased with the facility. My parents are now getting consistent house cleaning services and have shared with me that the food service has also vastly improved. Things are looking much better all around. (Feb 2023 review - see update above) Avoid this retirement facility like the plague. It was purchased by Hawthorn approximately a year ago, and since then the quality in housekeeping, food, maintenance and employee retention has drastically and dramatically declined. My parents have experienced black mold (and were displaced for 9 months due to this issue), rodent issues and a lack of ANY housekeeping services for three months (which is supposed to be weekly and included in their rent)! The food has been awful because this poorly managed company can't retain employees for very long, including chefs (in one instance, an employee had to run out and purchase frozen dinners). Following the displacement due to the mold issue, the management just literally had my parents belongings dumped back into their original cottage and didn't move them back in as promised. My parents are both immobile and handicapped (and were very ill at the time with respiratory infections). My husband and I had to take time off of work, fly up from California and spend several days unpacking and moving them back in (only to discover rodent feces all over their belongings). It was shocking to see the squalor like conditions my parents were living in. This cost my husband and I $1,500 (last minute flight, lodging and food). The vacancy rate is currently very high, for obvious reasons. I really hope that Hawthorn can get it together (I believe they are currently improving - they did recently let go of a very ineffective and terrible manager). I will post an update if this actually happens, and I hope it does, because my 80+ year old parents and other residents have been through enough since the Hawthorn purchase.

I have been living at The Chateau, the name I have chosen for Parkrose Chateau, for 11 months and 14 days. The first four months were all that I had been told it would be. This past four months have had many inconsistencies regarding food selection, food availability, transportation, maintenance and overall service of the kitchen staff. There have been numerous employees turn over which accounts for 75% of The Chateau's inconsistencies. These inconveniences are felt by about 70% of the almost 100 residents. In the spring/summer of 2023 there will be new changes in carpet and furniture which are acceptable, expect the resting benches in the hallways. The new ones will be made of all wood with NO cushion. That will not be acceptable by 95% of the residents. Those who walk get tried and want a comfortable bench to sit on. Do not buy the new ones. Please keep the more comfortable old ones. The Chateau now has a full staff, except a fulltime bus driver whose hiring must be done BEFORE the current bus driver retires in February of 2023. With this new driver I am confident that The Chateau will become as it was when I first arrived. The number of reasons I stay are as follows: 1. [Name Removed] is the most competent general manager I have ever come across in this position. 2. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, because of their training. 3. The residents are the best feature of The Chateau. 4. The various activities given to us are most appreciated. 5. [Name Removed] and her staff are always most interested in keeping us safe. 6. The areas inside and outside are easy to walk around. Outside there are some smooth pebbles that one may slip and fall. 7. I was amazed how pet friendly The Chateau is. 8. I am happy here, because I feel like it is a home NOT just a retirement community. Many say Hathorne, the new corporation that purchased The Chateau, is only concerned about the money. That is true to some degree since the investors expect a profit not loss for their investment. But I truly believe, and I might be very naive that Hathorne is looking out for the residents as well as the bottom line. Why do I believe that, because they hired Charli Denton.
