The staff here is very helpful and friendly I have found this place to be fairly quiet and if you have any questions or problems they are eager to help or answer your questions or problem, other tenants here are also friendly and kind, great atmosphere here. This Parkview facility is located at 1825 NE 108th Ave in Portland Oregon.

The staff are caring and kind. They try hard under sometimes difficult circumstances. They know me by name and always welcome me when I come to visit my sister. It’s the little things that can mean so much!

My sister has been living at Hawthorne Gardens for 5 years. There has been a huge improvement since my last visit a bit over 12 months ago. It was very clean, meals have improved and I saw kind, helpful, caring staff in every capacity.Very good communication with my sister, and with her family members. And it is in a beautiful neighbourhood- we so enjoyed walking to look at the gardens nearby.

My Mom has been at Hawthorne Gardens for 7 years. Until this past year I couldn't have rated the community higher than 3 stars (and some years were a 1 star). The past year with a new management team and a staff of people who work hard and care, I can confidently give the highest rating possible.

This is a great little facility in the middle of a popular SE Portland Belmont/Hawthorne neighborhood. Every time I go visit the residents seem happy and the employees are helpful and always greet me when I walk in. I see the residents keeping busy in the garden or sitting on the front porch eager to chat. They have a little neighborhood library box out in the back if you walk by.

Our brother is a resident at Hawthorne Gardens. During a recent visit, we were so impressed by the job the new management is doing under the direction of Katie Webb. Everyone was so friendly and kind and addressed our brother by name. Many diverse activities are available for the residents, and the facility is clean and attractive. Katie was on site and she interacted with the residents and visitors. She was very helpful, has such a positive attitude, and is responsive to all questions. In short, we are very happy with this facility!

My loved one has been residing at Hawthorne Gardens in Assisted Living for over 10 years now. We’ve experienced multiple changes in ownership and management, high staff turnover, and annual price hikes that are reported to be consistent within the industry. And he continues to reside there and thrive after 10 years. Part of that is due to the consistency of trusted key players who keep the place running, who genuinely care about residents and communicate with respect & transparency. The activities, routines, and care according to his service plan are at just the right level for him to maintain the independence he still wants, while maintaining his safety and care. One of these beloved key players who has been the face of HG, literally the smiling face you see when you enter, is sadly moving on after several years to relocate. She will be missed dearly by residents, staff, and families alike. Management are working to develop key players in these leadership roles and build a dependable, caring team of staff and caregivers. One area that could use improvement would be the food, which often seems to be one of the most common complaints among residents. Management does meet with residents for feedback and try to adjust menu offerings for variety and it can be a challenge to please everyone. My loved one has special dietary needs and while we understand the inability to fully guarantee no cross contamination, like restaurants, it would make a huge impact if they could develop a set of options that were identified as GF, DF, vegan, etc., on the menu. That way a resident could order accordingly and not have to guess or communicate through new staff, and accidentally be served or ingest ingredients to which they are sensitive or allergic.

I live down the street from this community and walk by every day. It looks like a happy place to live. The new paint and landscaping are inviting, and I always see residents outside when the weather is decent. The neighborhood is super walkable, but also quiet. Seems like the kind of place I'd like to retire to someday.

My sister and I just visited my brother at Hawthorne Gardens. Things have certainly changed. The first person we met was a med tech named Josh. Wow was he a breath of fresh air! He addressed my brother by name and engaged him in a conversation. It was easy to tell that there was a strong, friendly and supportive relationship between the two. Next, we were greeted by Katie who turned out to be the new executive Director. She knew who we were visiting and who we were. Other staff greeted us and my brother by name. We felt very welcomed and loved the friendly and upbeat atmosphere.

The new Executive Director is an amazing person, she truly cares about the residents and is working hard to make sure there is clear communication between the facility and the residents families. Great attention to detail, they are truly lucky to have her!

My family member pays $6695.00 per month and hasn’t had a shower in two weeks. My partner changed his sheets today, cleaned his room and helped him change his shirt and tshirt that he’s been in for over a week. I’m sure the shareholders got their checks. Thanks for taking such good care of a veteran!

My father has lived here for over five years. The recent changes and complete lack of communication have impacted his quality of life and we are beyond disappointed. They fired an amazing activities director yesterday and left the residents morose and crestfallen. They are now counting the med tech as a caregiver and have reduced the staffing as a result. He pays $6695.00 per month for this.

Wonderful place with a home-like feel. They really foster a sense of community here. The staff is very attentive and caring, especially Natalie at the front desk. Couldn't have asked for better care for my mom.

Hawthorne Gardens has had an amazing recovery from some three years ago when a change of management and Covid caused a plummet in quality; now stability in the form of a well qualified, caring, and experienced director, Stacie, has transformed the assisted living facility into a place where I feel good having my mom living in. The food, which is so important to people in a facility has vastly improved thanks to a newly hired chef, Atilla, who strives to prepare menus that are thoughtfully created and well plated, which in most facilities is not the norm. I was there today in memory care where my mom is, and sat for awhile as lunch was being served; it was a wonderful aromatic bean soup with bits of carrot and the main course was rice with a meat sauce and green beans- the whole lunch looked and smelled very good. New housekeeping has upped the level of cleanliness, the dining room in Memory care has new paint and cheerful curtains. Staffing additions have added to the number of kind, and thoughtful carers to the team. All in all, a very welcome trajectory upwards that Stacie and her team are still looking for ways to improve and add to the quality of living for men and women who need to be cared for.

Overall, after searching for assisted facilities for my father last year, we as a family were taken back by the initial welcome we received. We were even given a tour on the spot, and since we were only looking for a pamphlet, we were happily taken back. Both Natalie and Melissa set the stage for what as been a very positive experience. With new management, Stacie has done an amazing job improving communication and an increased positivity. Residents have an amazing choice of daily activities, and Dad, an original foodie, likes his choices and quality. They are very specific to his requests. Medical care has been and should be a gold star, as the care dad receives daily for his many physical challenges is so appreciated. I will even hear little stories from Beth and caregivers that add to that dimension of care. From a smile and greeting from the front desk to concerns or questions regarding finances, I truly am happy with Hawthorne Gardens.
August 2022
This month my mother celebrates six years of residency at Hawthorne Gardens Assisted Living. We were satisfied with it from the start, the neighborhood setting, her room, the staff and service and the activities. All together it had a warm community feel. Then along came COVID and the ensuing ripple of problems stemming from that horrible year (hard to find staff, ever increasing costs, etc). Most importantly, there was a lack of consistent, strong leadership at the top. Within the last few months, however, things have been markedly looking up. Stacie, the new director, is putting a system back in place. Once again there are standards and accountability, permanent staff in key positions and regular communication. The housekeeping services (which were sporadic) have been restored, the food is improved, and caregiving is provided with a caring, compassionate touch. A new activity director is making a positive difference. I sense that Hawthorne Gardens is becoming the community it was when Mom first came here. I encourage anyone looking at Senior Care facilities to take a look at what Hawthorne Gardens has to offer.

While activities and food were standard, medical attention was abysmal. management changed weekly. Nobody was accountable for problems encountered by families. If you love your family member DON'T send them there.

The staff is wonderful, attentive, and best of all LISTENS! The assisted living rooms are great, the yard is peaceful, and it’s located in a very quiet neighborhood.

The staff cares and are good team mates when we work together for my moms happiness.

The community has a beautiful setting! It’s clean and smells great. Staff are attentive and really care. Residents look so happy. Keep doing what you’re doing.
February 2020
I can only speak to the Assisted Living area. The food has become much better, with several choices and an obvious focus on improving the quality with more fresh foods and items cooked from scratch. I've observed that the current care staff members genuinely care about the residents. It's challenging work and takes a special person to do it well. I also appreciate the small size of the community and the quiet residential neighborhood. My mother has lived there for 7 years and tells me she is very content, which makes me happy.
