We toured with Laura last week and immediately knew this was the place for our mother. The moment we walked in Laura greeted us with a smile. Her knowledge and empathy is unmatched. Every employee said hello with a smile. The facility is clean and odor free. Feels like a resort not a "facility". My family and I are completely relieved knowing she will be well taken care of at Salida Woods. Thank you Laura!

So, after 2 years they don't seem to be able to turn it around. New owners and new administration are always talking about fixing problems but nothing improves. Turnover of administrative staff, Health & Wellness Director, Care Team Manager and Aids is extremely high. 3 Executive Directors in 2 years. Same for the Health & Wellness Director & Care Team Manager. Along with enumerable aids that have come and gone. Training and guidance from the new corporate office appears to be minimal. A few bad employees poison the good ones or the good ones just leave. Some aids are more interested in their phones then the residents. Residents have trouble identifying new aids because name tags are not always worn. Feels like they are just placing bodies in vacant positions so they can say they have coverage. Weekends and nights are the worst as there is no supervision. Residents can wait an hour before someone answers their call button. Keep your eye on things if your resident is on important medication… Food is always served cold. Many alternative food options listed are NEVER available. After residents are in the dining hall, they can wait 45 min before they are feed. Some just give-up and leave without eating. Many others will just not eat the food. Kitchen staff is not interested in any kind of improvement and just does not care. They have chased away some very caring staff and it is the residence that suffer. Shame!

Salida Woods is a great place for my mother. Recently they had a community wide power outage . They were out of power for a short time while they found a backup generator. The staff handed it wonderfully and everything was fine. Thank you Laura for handling that emergency situation.

Having had the opportunity to interact and engage with the Executive Director Jennifer, there is a true passion and commitment to excellence clearly on display. The efforts to further develop and support the staff, as well as striving to implement resources which can benefit the residents, are the foundation for sustainable success. Beautiful facility, and a great team!

Mom had a traumatic event in the spring of 2022 that hospitalized her. Upon discharge, it was mandated that she go to an assisted living facility. I personally visited nine assisted living facilities. The very first facility told me that each facility has its own “vibe”. That became very evident as I visited the remaining eight. We narrowed it down to three, one on the west side and two on the east side, one of which was Salida Woods. We ultimately chose Salida Woods. The administrators at Salida facilitated the emergency move into the facility in early June, which was much appreciated given the stressful nature of the situation. The first month or so was difficult. However, there were a couple of bright spots early on. She liked the onsite doctor, which was nothing short of a miracle because she had hated every doctor in recent memory. She also loved the onsite hairdresser. Those two things helped the transition immensely. By midsummer, she was pretty well adjusted. Her only regular complaint was the lack of privacy. That’s part of assisted living, and was needed for her well-being, which we explained to her. She eventually accepted it, at least for the most part. By late summer things were running smoothly. Although she had no significant cognition problems prior to the trauma in the spring, the trauma resulted in a noticeable loss of cognition. This was quite worrisome at the time, and certainly made the initial adjustment more difficult, but to our surprise the cognition decline resolved once she got adjusted. By the fall, she was back to exactly where she was prior to the trauma, which was almost miraculous. We attributed a lot of that to getting into a good daily routine which she hadn’t had for the past decade of living on her own. Some of these positives were random good luck and fortune (doctor and hairdresser). However, there were a couple of things that were unique to Salida that made her tenure there as enjoyable as possible given the circumstances. First, she made friends with several of the women she ate meals with. This was so nice to see given that she only had one friend left while in her westside home. Having some social interaction with ladies in similar circumstances was very beneficial. She really enjoyed their company and commented on how nice they all were. I know there was some thought put into choosing her eating mates, so that was beyond just random luck a good fortune. The second big benefit was the close relationship she developed with one of the nurses. I don’t know exactly how that transpired, but it did, and it helped her a lot. There were several reasons for choosing Salida Woods. First, the atmosphere is quaint and quiet. Mom was 95 years old at the time, so the hustle and bustle of larger facilities was not appealing. Second, Salida is a “blended facility” (assisted living mixed with mild memory care). The other two facilities we considered were assisted living only and assisted living/memory care. The final reason was the secure access, which is a byproduct of the blended facility. This was actually a requirement upon her discharge, so ultimately that made the decision to choose Salida a no-brainer. The west side facility was assisted living only, with no secure access. I think she would have done well there, but even if she didn’t have the secure access requirement, there was still the consideration of what would happen in the future of she needed more advanced care. That would have required a move to a memory care facility or a nursing home. The blended care of Salida provides the possibility of more advanced care without having to move. The other east side facility was the more traditional assisted living/memory care facility, but because of the secure access requirement, the memory care was the only option. Although she did have some cognitive decline, she was far from needing memory care and would have very likely declined further rather than recovering her previous cognition in the assisted living of Salida. In the end, we never regretted choosing Salida.

Salida Woods has been a wonderful community for my Uncle. It is always clean when I come in and staff has been very helpful every time I go to visit. He has gone on a bus trip so far and likes going to the activities they have everyday. Very glad we chose this facility for him!

I am extremely impressed with this facility and their staff as an outside vendor partnering with their team to care for their community. Anytime I’ve been there, I’m always greeted with a smile and the front desk is always so helpful. The nursing staff are very accommodating and the director, Jennifer, is very dedicated and caring towards her residents and employees in the community and is always willing to help. This team works hard to ensure their residents are well taken care of and feel at home.

Several of my high school classmates and Mentor residents have recommended Salida Woods for parent care. After taking a tour, I will say that the downstairs area appears nicer than upstairs. So After looking at several other places... Mom said okay to this one and we are getting ready to move her in. I do find it strange that there are no reviews younger than 2yrs? Does this mean there is little turn over of residents? The one that concerns me is 2 yrs old and talks about something bad from over 15ys ago???

My husband and I moved my mother in law into Salida Woods when it was no longer safe for her to be home alone. The personalized care and attention was beyond our expectations. She was happy and comfortable and loved leaving her door open for people passing by to stop in to say hello. We visited every day at different times and were never disappointed or concerned about her care. She enjoyed the community and they treated her with dignity and respect. She spent her final days at Salida Woods and we were very pleased with every aspect of the experience. I would highly recommend this facility. Thank you.

I could not be happier with the care my parents have received at Salida Woods. The staff members are caring, professional, and treat the residents with dignity. The vast amount and variety of activities keep residents active. The Activities Director has multiple daily options to keep residents busy and socializing with each other. Family participation is always encouraged. Entrusting your elderly loved ones to the care of an assisted living home is not easy. Salida Woods has been the perfect fit for our family.

My Dad has had exceptional care from all of the staff at Salida Woods. He has been at Salida Woods for 4 years and he has had personalized care with good food, attentive service and quality medication management. Most importantly they treat residents as if they are part of the family. Many staff members have been there for years and I would not hesitate to recommend this facility to other families. It was highly recommended to our family because of the caring attitude of all of the staff including administration, resident aids, activity director, kitchen and cleaning staff who all take pride in their workplace. Safety has always been a priority for the residents and their families.
