A little over two years ago, my mom - who was living independently - had a bad fall. We suddenly needed to find a new home for her that could provide a higher level of care. The first placement we found was beautiful, with all the bells and whistles. However, we soon realized the level of care there was inconsistent at best. On top of that she was very depressed over losing her apartment, and we felt we needed to be there every day to care for her. Then we found the Homestead. This is tough for me to write because mom recently passed...tough also because of the immense love and gratitude I have for The Homestead, the staff, her caregivers. Once on the second floor, mom regained her joy! The staff are truly family, a home not just for mom but for us! Especially during all the challenges of Covid. Rebecca the director is truly the most compassionate person. The staff who serve the elders here go above - and - beyond. There are no words for how grateful I am for their love and care for mom - the laughter and love they shared with her, with me! What sets this place apart from the rest is simply the love. I am forever grateful to The Homestead. Highly recommended.

My father and my mother-in law both currently live in and are loved by the Rochester Presbyterian Home. I cannot say enough good things about RPH! Between our elderly parents, we have experienced 5 other assisted living facilities. My father was in 2 in NJ before moving up here and my mother-in-law tried 3 others before this one. She had temporary stays in some of the most exclusive facilites in Pittsford, and while staff was nice everywhere, only at RPH has she experienced a home. My father is Catholic and attends mass in their on-site chapel. There are weekly Presbyterian services as well. A non-religious person could live here and feel completely comfortable, as nothing is pushed, only available (though it is decorated for Christian holidays). We recently experienced Chistmas there and learned that the staff purchased gifts for all of the residents and had Santa and Mrs Claus stop by to deliver them on Christmas morning. The facilities are beautiful, the price is extremely reasonable, and the staff are all wonderful!

Like many with a loved one who has alzheimers or other type of dementia, try to do what is best for them. We keep them at home for as long as we can, but there comes a time when they no longer recognize us, and no longer recognize their own home as home, the place they grew up, the place their parents and siblings live, the place they can never go back to, the place that only exists in their minds. So we try and find a place for them to go. My mother was asked to leave 2 other assisted living facilities before we found the Rochester Prebyterian Home. She fell in love with it right way, she, so far, has never tried to leave. She thinks of it as home, which is the best you can hope for. The Rochester Prebyterian Home is like a warm, comfortable, snuggy blanket. The people there, wonderful, wonderful people, treat my mother the same as we would their own. She is very truly happy there, which makes my father, and brother and sister, and me, sleep a lot better at night.

The Rochester Presbyterian Home (RPH) is a small, well-run, facility that embraces the Eden Alternative Philosophy. An Eden Alternative facility moves away from an institutional one-size-fits-all approach and towards person-directed care that emphasizes autonomy, dignity and well-being. My Dad has lived there since December 2013 on one of the memory care floors. The variety of daily activities includes trips, all kinds of music, and movies, as well as multiple ways to engage all residents--those with dementia on the memory care floors and those without dementia just needing assisted living. Due to my Dads health issues we have experienced care in hospitals and in skilled nursing rehab facilities--the differences in approaches to care have been a real eye-opener. While the care he received in other facilities was very good, hands down we would recommend the Rochester Presbyterian Home. The philosophy of care is not to be underestimated--it permeates every single activity and interaction that happens at RPH. Every place is going to have its pluses and minuses. However, the few times we have had questions or concerns, the response has been immediate, transparent, and addressed to our satisfaction. We truly feel that the staff at RPH are a warm, caring, and professional team all working together to take care of my beloved father.

The Rochester Presbyterian Home is a true home. My mom lived here in memory care for 8 years. As her dementia slowly progressed over this time it was clear to us that she always felt safe and content. The care staff treated her with love and dignity while always allowing her the opportunity to be involved in her own daily care. While mom was more of an observer, the staff encouraged her join in the many activities offered each day. At RPH, it was evident to us that ALL levels of staff were equally committed to the care of all the elders. Our family would eagerly recommend this wonderful homelike place.

The Rochester Presbyterian Home is a dedicated, well-run, well-staffed and excellent place for residents who need memory care. The RPH lives by the Eden Alternative principles: maintaining a vibrant, empowered existence for elders in residential care environments. I have been visiting residents at the RPH for ten years on a weekly and sometimes daily basis. The residents are ALWAYS being engaged. In fact, I once heard a new resident grumble to another resident, They never let us sit. The reviewers who malign the RPH knoweth not whereof they speak.

My Mom recently moved into RPH and my family and I could not be more delighted. Mom was warmly welcomed. She still wants to go back to her house but everyone is so kind and comforting and engaging that she often calls RPH home now. The Family Care Guide even sends me email updates when I travel. My Mom could not be at a better place.

My mother has been a resident on the advanced stage memory care floor for almost a year. We are extremely pleased with the care she is receiving. It is her home. The warmth and friendliness I experience in the facility reinforces that we made the correct choice for her. Her care givers are sensitive to her needs and provide the extra care she requires being an enhanced care resident.

Both my grandmother and my father were blessed with the care provided by this wonderful place. The staff are so kind and conscientious in the attention provided to their elders living there. I have had two very positive experiences over extended periods of time, once in the 80s and then once just recently. I would highly encourage anyone in need to check them out, you will not regret the peace of mind knowing your loved one is getting what they need. I may carry on the tradition and stay there myself someday!

Within a year of each other, both of my parents dementia progressed to the point that they were unable to care for themselves. My father was admitted to Rochester Presbyterian Home in late 2010, and my mother followed him in early 2011. They both began as residents in the independent living part of RPH, and were eventually moved to other areas of the home to receive higher levels of care as they became more confused and their memories deteriorated. I only observed the RPH staff treating both of my parents with kindness, compassion, and understanding, in spite of the fact that my mother was, at times, belligerent and difficult. One piece of qualifying feedback I have is that when my mother became incapable of attending to her own personal hygiene, sometimes when I visited her, it was obvious that shed soiled herself, and I had to find an aide to change my mothers adult diaper and clean her up. To be fair, I dont expect that an assisted-living facility like RPH, which specializes in dementia care, has the resources to constantly monitor every single residents personal hygiene. And again, my mother could be difficult to deal with, so its possible that an RPH staff member might have attempted to clean up my mother and had been rudely dismissed by her. Another issue for me was that occasionally, personal belongings, or items I had purchased for my parents disappeared from their rooms. For example, in July 2011, when my father had a stroke that hospitalized him and led to his death, I cleaned out his room at RPH, and an expensive radio I had bought for him was nowhere to be found. A few articles of clothing and a couple of comforters I had bought for my mother also mysteriously disappeared during her stay there. Im not accusing RPH staff of stealing. In the last year or so of my mothers RPH residency, I found a couple of items in her room that clearly didnt belong to her, such as a small picture frame containing a family photo of people Id never seen before. I assumed that in her confusion my mother had lifted this item from another residents private space. So its possible that other RPH residents removed my parents personal items from their respective rooms. Overall, Im pleased and grateful for the level of care my parents received as residents of RPH, and I have no regrets that my father spent his last year, and my mother spent five years, at RPH.

My mother, aged 90, has a long term relationship with Rochester Presbyterian Home. She served on the Service Board for 25 years. During her time on that board, she only had positive things to share about the care level and the people at RPH. Imagine our delight to be greeted, in a very personal way, on the morning she arrived as a resident Elder by the Executive Director who worked with Mom during her time on the Service Board. My Mom feels very connected into her new life at Rochester Presbyterian Home. She is an excellent spokesperson for all the wonderful aspects of living at RPH. I am so happy with the fact that I can contact RPH with questions I may have at any time, day or night. The caring staff is always there for me with a prompt response. Mom and I speak often about how lucky we are to have Rochester Presbyterian Home for her care plan. It has been a great fit!
