Reviews The Legacy at Santa Fe

My mother has lived here for some time, and I can't say enough good things about the care she receives. As her needs have increased, the team has been accommodating, communicative, and proactive. Special recognition goes to Vicky Sands, head of nursing. She runs a tight ship and has kept me informed and supported through every change in my mother's care. Everyone I've dealt with among the assisted living staff has been knowledgeable and caring; off the top of my head, shout-outs go to Carla, Karla, Teague, Monique, Aaron, and Ruben! As someone who can't live close by right now, knowing my mother is in such good hands means the world to me.

Moving my mother to Legacy Santa Fe memory care department has been the best decision we could have possibly made. The difference in care, respect, and attention to detail is night and day compared to her previous facility. We moved her from MorningStar, where her experience was incredibly disappointing. My mom has multiple food allergies, and the chef at MorningStar simply wouldn’t comply with her dietary needs or bother cooking meals that she actually liked or could safely eat. It was a constant battle and a massive source of stress for our family. At Legacy, it is a completely different story. The culinary team here is absolutely phenomenal. The chef goes above and beyond every single day, making sure to personally ask my mother what she wants to eat and preparing it exactly to her liking and dietary needs”always with a warm smile on his face. It is clear that he truly cares about the residents' happiness and well-being. The entire staff at Legacy treats my mother with the dignity and individualized care she deserves. If you are looking for a memory care community that actually delivers on its promises and treats your loved ones like family, look no further than Legacy.

Our family member is in the memory care part of the Legacy community, it’s called Connections. She is well cared for and enjoys the community of other residents so much. We are so pleased to see her smiling while engaged in the activities whenever we arrive for a visit. She is content and we feel so grateful for the excellent care provided and the efforts made to keep her healthy and active.

My sweet mother in law has been a resident for just over 3 years now. Imagine moving from your home state of New Jersey, and moving clear across the country, from the ocean to the desert .... all of this at age 96! She transitioned beautifully, and we're so happy to have her living less than ten minutes away from us. She loves the Legacy, she calls it "the resort"! © Words alone cannot describe how wonderful this facility is ..... but I'll give it my best shot. Immediately you feel like you're at home when you walk in. It's so welcoming, bright and clean. And then there's the staff, well, what can I say, they are just incredible, every single one of them! They are so caring and you can see how much they enjoy what they do. I'm brought to tears when I see the care and love they give our mom. And they treat my husband and myself like family. All the staff always has a big smile for you when they see you! It's such a nice feeling knowing your loved one is being so well taken care of by this lovely team of professionals! We're so grateful for them! ™ When mom was in the hospital a few years ago, I was visiting her in the hospital every day and she was there for 3 weeks. And you know, I really missed all the other residents and the staff for those three weeks when I wasn't visiting the facility. Mom is so busy, she's never in her room. They have so many great activities going on every day! Exercising, walks, outings for shopping and lunch, trips by bus to Balloon Fiesta, bingo, blackjack, cards, crafts, movies (with freshly popped popcorn!), cooking & baking, reading sessions, discussion forums, and so much more. Oh and I'm now a regular at Bingo and they welcome me with open arms every week! Mom is turning 100 in just a few weeks and the staff is so excited for her, it's truly heartwarming. Thank you Legacy, we appreciate everything you do, more than you know! °°

My grandfather recently moved in to the The Legacy at Santa Fe. I worked with Ruben and the team to get grandpa moved in as quickly as possible after a stay in the hospital. The team at the Legacy moved up his move in date to accommodate his hospital release. Ruben and his staff helped put all of Grandpa's furniture together and loaned us items that we needed until we were able to purchase them. We all met together to go over Grandpa's care plan so that we could decide on a placement that allowed Grandpa the most autonomy and also kept him safe and cared for. I love the staff at The Legacy! They are caring and treat the residents with respect. The residents have a large menu of programs to choose from during the week. This week I was able to join Grandpa at a concert in the music room where we sang along to familiar songs. They went on an outing and had lunch and ice cream the following day. I was waiting for grandpa to return, and it was so joyous to see him practically run through the door with such joy after his outing. The concierge, Jules is wonderful and so patient in answering all of our questions. Sonia, grandpa's nurse is very knowledgeable and empathetic. The food is wonderful, and the chef offers options if the residents want a different item. Grandpa loves the food so much they've started offering double portions! We are so grateful to the caring staff at The Legacy. I think I might move in myself 🙂

He has gained weight and is making friends with the residents.

This place is so nice. looks like a fancy hotel with lots of amenities. Everyone seemed so nice and seemed to care. We moved my mom in there just a few days ago. So the jury is still out on the outcome of her care there. I have good feelings about this place.

My father has been here for a couple months now (summer 2022) based on a local doctor's recommendation, and everything has been excellent. Very good attention to medical issues; a drive towards keeping residents engaged and socialized; transparent communication with family members; and a nice physical setting with high ceilings. Really good and flexible nutrition with tasty meals. Overall well above expectations here -- a big thank you to the crew at Legacy at Santa Fe.

We had to put my mother in memory care about a year ago due to another memory care home not able to provide the care needed for my mom. Since her time at The Legacy at Santa Fe, she has been very well taken care of. The staff has been very patient and have grown to love her along with the Hospice nurses that make sure my mom doing well. Ruben and Tony have been the BEST with my mom and all my family that goes to visit my mom. Thank you, Tony Webb

My partner Frank has been at Legacy now for 14 months in the Memory Care, he has advanced dementia. He came from a facility where he was only supposed to be a few weeks, but had been stuck for seven months during the lock down from Covid. He was in terrible shape and in hospice care when he could finally be moved. Within a few months at Legacy he was out of hospice care, eating again and gaining weight. I so believe it was the caring staff there at Legacy that kept him from deteriorating any further and actually improving his overall health and demeanor so much. He now lives in his comfortable secure room, happy in his surroundings... he enjoys his meals , visitors that stop by to see him, listens to his classical music, watches the sky and weather through his big window.. I don't believe you can find better care than Legacy in Santa Fe, especially for the price for there. I find all of their staff to be truly caring and professional, it's more than "just a job" to them. I have such a sense of relief knowing my guy lives in safety and comfort, means so much to me. Thank you Legacy!
December 2021
I had a very good experience working with Ruben to see if the Legacy was right for my father. He and the staff were very helpful and we took an informative tour of the facility. While my father ultimately choose to move in with another family member, he did comment that the Legacy was like a very nice hotel! At the very least, I recommend checking this place out.
September 2021
My family was distraught after an elderly family member was in the hospital. We needed to explore assisted living options for the family member, and Ruben at The Legacy was phenomenally helpful. He was kind, understanding, and went above and beyond to help our family. We are incredibly grateful. Note that this review is regarding our experience with Ruben--the family member did not move in to The Legacy as of this writing.
August 2021
I feel so lucky to have found such a wonderful place for my mother. The building is amazing, with a sports lounge with two big screen TVs and beautiful tables for chess, poker, backgammon and checkers, a fitness room with machines specifically designed for older folks, a hair salon, a beautiful dining room, a movie theater and a large multipurpose room with a large covered deck overlooking the Sandia Mountains for relaxing and a central courtyard that has mini golf. The staff is amazing. When I was looking for a place for my mother in May 2021 it was one of the only facilities that had a staff vaccination rate at 98%. Everywhere else that had space had about a 70% rate at the time. This told me that the staff were more caring than anywhere else and it has been proven to be true with the level of competence and care I have witnessed over and over again not just for my mother but for all residents. The food is wonderful, according to my mom. And her room is beautiful as well. Since it’s new construction you don’t hear your neighbors TVs either.
May 2021
We started moving my mom into the Legacy on April 28th of 2021. I researched all the assisted living homes thoroughly and this one has an excellent Covid-19 record with no deaths. This home has everything my mom wants and needs, including medication assistance, three wonderful (!) chef prepared meals a day and --most of all-- an accommodating and caring staff. Not to mention this place is much newer, very secure, bright and beautiful. It has spectacular mountain views and they keep it spotless. Extra bonuses I didn't know about-- they check mom's vitals morning and evening, BP, etc. She is soon to be 93 years old and still very healthy. She plans on being/staying active and especially appreciates the planned happy hours outside on the deck overlooking the mountains. :>). So if you have been waiting---like us-- to place your mom into assisted living I would not hesitate to give Reuben, the awesome community coordinator, a call. My whole family is grateful for finding this place and really do not believe we could find a nicer place. Good luck to all and good riddance Covid!

Our search for the right assisted living place in Santa Fe covered all the options from reputed old town locations to established communities near town. Once we began talking with the folks at The Legacy Santa Fe we knew we had found the right place, and equally important, the right people. Of the eight places I contacted, the staff at The Legacy at Santa Fe were the most genuine, attentive, patient, and helpful. All the staff members I have met have been wonderful, and my mother who lives there continues to praise them. Ruben, Diana, Debra, Maria, Tony and many more have made this transition so seamless and natural for my mother and sister and me. During the COVID crisis with all the logistical difficulties it has imposed upon us, they went above and beyond to get my mother situated (since my sister and I could not go inside). Ruben, with Tony’s assistance (and great sense of humor) moved my mother’s furnishings and artwork and personal effects into her apartment, and unpacked for her and hung the paintings! They even procured some extra furniture on site to make my mother’s apartment feel more cozy and personalized! I LOVE these guys! And the place itself merits a glowing review. Situated in the characteristic Aldea neighborhood with 360 degree views of mountains and hills you can still be at the Plaza in just 10 minutes. The building is relatively new, has many high tech features that make daily life there easy, and the styling is upbeat and very Santa Fe. The amenities are top notch and I understand the food is exquisite. I want to move there! Maybe one day I will! Lastly, so as not to gush, they offer promotions and reasonable fees, making it the best choice in the area, based on my extensive research.

My mother was recently moved to the memory unit at the Legacy Santa Fe. It was a difficult choice for us but we quickly felt the supportive nature of the group at the Legacy. Ruben was instrumental in helping us through what might have been a traumatic experience. The care my mom is now surrounded by is so much better than we could have done. The place is beautiful and everything is clean and nice. We have experienced nothing but professionals and truly caring staff. Special thanks to Ruben Vasquez , you’re an angel. The Pierce & Quintana family
December 2020
Beautiful building and mostly good staff that work with the residents. Management is scary. And deceitful. They can’t keep a nurse on staff and constantly mismanage meds. Oxycodone is stolen from rooms, goes missing, or just runs out. Other meds as well. There never seems to be an urgency to correct this and the family is never notified. Check violations with the health department. There has been at least three, now maybe four or five, just in the past year. Even with a long list of grievances the CEO Kimberly will give you the run around. Almost all of the staff have also had the same brush off. Ask them. Their experiences are very interesting. Don’t even consider this facility.

My brother is living in The Legacu's Memory Care. I live on the East Coast, so communicating with Staff is very important to me. Ruben Vasquez, the Director of Community Affairs is a wonder. He is truly concerned about The Legacy's residents and answers the family's questions fully and in a timely fashion. I believe my brother is being very well cared for.
October 2020
The employees and Diana, the Director are extremely responsive, and have such a caring attitude. My loved one moved from another home in Santa Fe to the Legacy at Santa Fe, since moving to the Legacy at Santa Fe she has received excellent care. The meals are tasty and she has been able to get her health back. During these trying COVID Times, the staff has gone out of their way to insure that her Family and many friends have been able to visit and speak to her on the telephone."They make sure that the visits go nicely. " I cannot say enough about the staff and their friendly nature." I have never called and been made feel like I am bothering them or that they are to busy to assist me. This is such welcome change from her last home. !!" I just cannot say ENOUGH POSITIVE things about the Cleanliness, Happy, Helpful Environment that we have found at the Legacy of Santa Fe. I live out of State and so all of this is REALLY IMPORTANT to me. I finally have peace of MIND when I leave Santa Fe, knowing that my loved one is in GREAT HANDS!!!!! I highly recommend The Legacy at Santa Fe, for anyone who needs to know that their loved one will get QUALITY CARE>>>>>
October 2020
During the research phase for my dad, who is nearing 80, Ruben was available to answer the million questions I had with patience and kindness. I am so impressed with his availability and the facility itself. The location is amazing with gorgeous views of the Sangre de Christo mountains. The Legacy has the warmth of home with all the luxury of a five star hotel.
October 2020
Legacy at Santa Fe is HIGHLY recommended! The staff is very attentive, helpful, and caring when it comes to the care of the residents. The management team goes above and beyond to make sure it feels like home. It is VERY clean and smells GREAT all throughout the community. I am a nurse and have been to many communities, but this place for sure stands out just from the time I walk in all the way until I leave the community. During the Pandemic it is very difficult and you want to make sure your loved one is in a safe environment and this is the place you want them to be. While practicing social distancing for now, soon to follow will be things the residents can continue to enjoy with several activities daily, movie theater, mini golf course, sports lounge, CHEF on site cooking amazing meals, etc. The food is delicious, no complaints there. If you have not checked this place out please do, you will not be disappointed!
August 2020
My mother has lived there for 2 years now and I am thrilled, overall, with the quality of care she has received. I believe she is truly loved by the staff and treated with warm affection. There is a nice range of activities offered, the food is great and the facility is beautiful. I give Legacy a hearty thumbs up!
July 2020
I highly recommend the Legacy of Santa Fe to all who ask--this is a wonderful caring community, and I could not have chosen a better, more loving environment for my mom, who suffered from dementia. The staff could not have been sweeter and more helpful to her and to me, and the environment is so pretty, clean, happy and nurturing. And the food is delicious! Originally I moved mom into one of the larger apartments on the second floor, but when she declined rapidly, we moved her to "Connections," the memory care unit. She was happy, loved and very well cared for until the end, and I was treated with such kindness on all of my daily visits and throughout the transitions we made. If you are in need of assisted living or memory care for yourself or a loved one and you want to find a beautiful, friendly, family-oriented environment, the Legacy of Santa Fe should be at the top of your list.

My wife Mary Adams was one of the first to join Legacy 3/1/18. There have been changes in upper management, but for the better. Mary has received excellent care and this still is in place of choice for Mary. By the way, she is in Memory Loss section of Legacy. Update: In March 2018, I placed my wife at the Legacy. She had been diagnosed earlier with dementia and her declining ability to function and escalating behavior made it impossible to continue caring for her. Initially, I was very impressed, however, as the months went by I became increasingly concerned at the lack of communication and frequent turnover of staff. Often on weekends, staffing was severally limited and the concierge was not staffed. Maintenance staff was constantly changing and it took almost three months to get Mary's T.V. hooked up. I was told by staff that Mary was a wonderful resident, except when it came to shower time. She would become extremely aggressive and it took three staff members to handle her. On occasion, they brought the maintenance man into her shower to control her. I was horrified when I heard this. At her new facility, staff explains to Mary why she needs to shower and she cooperates happily. Also, I was in the complete dark as to what medications, therapy and nursing care she was receiving. During the COVID-19 lockdown, the CDC mandated facilities to notify patient representatives within 12 hours of the occurrence of a single confirmed infection of COVID-19. I only became aware via the internet of cases at the Legacy. I immediately called the Legacy and after what seemed to me to be denial, was told that two employees who worked and lived together had COVID-19 At her new facility she is thriving. The have a petting zoo, aquarium and birds. Experts in Memory Care state that gardens and animals are an important aspect of memory care as patients react positively to environmental factors.
