Very neglected building needs a lot of repairs and bug extermination as the stairs always have roaches. New staff and directors and sales team each time I go. Hardly anyone at the front desk. The residents have often been complaining about various things in the lobby. I’ve only been on a few deliveries but grandma will not have this as an option to call home in the near future look elsewhere.

My Mom was looking to move in to Albuquerque Grand in February of this year. She hadn’t signed anything but gave them a check for $1,500 to hold it. She immediately got sick and passed away February 6th, 3 weeks later. While my Mom was battling cancer in the hospital, they cashed the check and will not refund the money. They have told my sister that they will send a check but have not. This place is stealing money from the elderly and I think it is important for people to know what kind of establishment this is. Read the google reviews, this is not an isolated incident.

Trip Trap

ELEVATOR EAST BUILDING 2022-12-08 The elevator malfunctioned. People were trapped in their rooms and trapped from getting to their rooms prior to lunch. The way this place is run, I doubt regular preventive maintenance is performed on the elevators. 2022-12-10 The elevator malfunctioned again trapping many people in their rooms and in the commons area. The elevator inspection certificate is dated 2021-02-04. See BBB entry below. ELEVATOR WEST BUILDING 2022-12-13 There is no inspection certificate. See BBB entry below. PLUMBING September 2022 the smell of sewer gas appeared in the commons area: dining room, game room, TV room and front desk. The smell is also in the kitchen where resident's food is prepared. A manager admitted to me that they know there is a problem with the plumbing in the men's and women's restrooms plumbing. She neglected to say anything about the smell in the kitchen. A maintence man admitted to me that there was a problem with the plumbing. It's very nauseating and eating in the dining room cab be horrible. It's a smell that lingers in your nose for hours. 2022-11-26 Two apartments have had plumbing backups in the last two weeks. There are plumbing leaks in the Parking Garage ceiling emanating from first floor apartments and the kitchen. 2022-12-10 Another leak appeared in the parking garage ceiling by the exit door. It's below the kitchen. What's in the liquid coming from the garage ceiling? October - November 2022 there was a very strong odor of sewer gas in the parking garage despite strong wind blowing through. What is being tracked from the garage into the rest of the building? The sewer gas in the dining room is most noticable at breakfast - 7am. It dissipates though out the day, but reoccurs every morning. Is the kitchen and therefore meals contaminated with fecal matter from the sewer gas? GATE, STAIRWELL 2022-08-13 A stairway gate in the patio, outside and north of the dining room and mail boxes, leading to the parking garage was locked closed by management. In case of an emergency, like a fire, anyone in this area might try to use this stairway as an egress down to the parking garage then out to the street. But since the gate won't open, entering the building would be required. GATE, PARKING GARAGE to PATIO This gate started being locked 2022-12-28 for unknown reasons. This was an emergency exit. GATE, PATIO to STREET The gate was welded closed for unknown reason. This was an emergency exit. Concerning the disabled gates: there has been no notification (grape vine only) given to residents or updated fire drill(s) incase someone would try to use these gates as emergency exits. HALLWAYS (in front of apartment doors), CLEANLINESS The vacuum cleaner used in rooms and common areas is bagless and it just throws fine dust and viruses back into the air. A vacuum using HEPA filter bags should be used. HEPA filters would impede the spread of viruses and allergens. The hallway carpet should be shampooed periodically since seniors frequently experience incontinence, but the carpet is never cleaned. ENTERING BUILDING AFTER HOURS It can be difficult to re-enter the building in the evenings and at night since the front desk isn't staffed. INTERNET ACCESS Internet access is unreliable. Many residents don't have and have never had internet access in their rooms. LAUNDRY There are only 3 washers and 3 dryers in the entire building for 150 potential residents. There are presently about 50 residents. The east building washers and dryers have been reported and ignored many times for improper operation. 2022-10-05 Management had an open house. They installed missing ceiling tiles and removed broken dining room chairs that had been pushed in a corner and left for months. The building is in a state of disrepair. Management clearly has had little interest in maintaining the property. STAFF There is a constant and frequent turnover of receptionists, food servers, cooks, and maintenance workers. Upper management treats staff and residents with disdain. Of course you won't learn this until you've lived here for a while. 2022-12-26 The kitchen manager, who was here less than three months, was unjustly fired for wanting to provide higher quality food. 2022-12-17 A night shift maintenance worker was fired for stealing from resident's rooms and sleeping with his girlfriend in unoccupied rooms. BBB The BBB (Better Business Bureau) states that The Albuquerque Grand Senior Living as of 2022-02-28 has not obtained a necessary license from the New Mexico Department of Health. MEDICAL EMERGENCY In the event of a medical emergency, the staff has orders to only call 911. This means no CPR, choking or other assistance will be provided. Several personally identifiable experiences have been omitted out of fear of retribution.

The majority of communities I have visited have a very similar atmosphere. They feel and look like hotels, which is not inherently negative, but you are left feeling like a guest. The Grand sets itself apart and feels like a home. A safe place a senior can call their own as they continue to live out the rest of their years. The stage staff was social and friendly. The community itself was clean and well managed. The biggest surprise was the surpassing starting rate and the fact that they gave life time rates. Other communities have drastically raised their rates while The Grand has made a commitment to secure their for the entirety of their residents stays. I believe any senior could find a wonderful home here and I’m thankful to have them apart of the Albuquerque community.

AG attempted to take nearly all of my $1000 security deposit. I tried to resolve amicably but they did not respond to phone messages, emails and in-person messages left. Sued them to recover my deposit+damages w court ruling in my favor. A shabby place w unethical ownership.

The BBB (Better Business Bureau) states that The Albuquerque Grand Senior Living as of 2022-02-28 has not obtained a necessary license from the New Mexico Department of Health. Air conditioning has been non existent since mid June 2022. Many apartments share a common bathroom. This is not a good environment for senior living during the age of COVID given the typical moisture content that viruses thrive in. The building should be remodeled to eliminate shared bathrooms. There was a fire on the evening of 2022-07-19 and no one was at the supposed permanently staffed front desk. The firemen had no one to ask who was in which rooms: total chaos. No automatic fire detection systems were activated. Fortunately a visitor saw the fire and activated the alarms. It can be difficult to re-enter the building in the evenings and at night since the front desk isn't staffed. There are only 3 washers and 3 dryers in the entire building for 150 residents. My apartment phone and many other apartment phones are unreliable, therefore, unreliable for emergencies. Stairwell and parking garage lighting is poor. For months, the same dead cockroaches are still lying dead on stairwell steps. The resident hallways are never vacuumed. The vacuum used in rooms and common area is bagless that just throws fine dust and viruses back into the air. Vacuums using HEPA filter bags should be used. These are the kind used on airplanes and in updated school ventilation systems. HEPA filters are like N95 masks. Occupancy is less than one-third capacity. There were many others, but they have left. Management is top heavy diverting money to salaries that should be going toward building maintenance. Two management positions should be eliminated to hire two more maintenance people complete work orders and improve the property. I would not recommend living here. However, it has great potential for the right owners and managers with its proximity to a hospital, the University of New Mexico, and local businesses.

FYI: I am contacting agencies and making posts about the seriously bad condition of this building and the extremely poor response of management to correct problems. It's obvious that management and owners are just sucking money from the property most likely resulting in its eventual closing. It's only one third full. Also The Grand has failed to obtain the certification by the NM Dept of Health. Not good.

Thank you for letting us use your beautiful patio for my moms 89th birthday bash. This was the perfect place for our family to meet and enjoy the day with her. My girls who care for me are wonderful. I was unable to live at home after my hip replacement and found my new home after my daughter went on the hunt. I like this place because my input matters. For example... I was feeling like I was not integrated into the community and the staff took the extra time to really find out what my interests were. They made sure to get me for any activates that they felt I would like. I am now part of the gardening club and looming hats for the new born babies at the hospital.

I want to thank Susana and her staff. They are wonderful and take care of my uncle. He is a vet and a very proud one at that matter. He thinks its awesome that they have events for Vets. He said his new favorite breakfast item is chili rellenos with green chili. I was there last week and they has entertainment and I was surprised to see so many people dancing.

My dad was out of state and needed to be closer to my wife and I. Savanna did a great job of helping us with his transition. She had everything prepared to help him find a new doctor, pharmacy, transport from the airport, home health for a safe move and the list went on. Her knowledge was remarkable and the things she pulled off made dads move so much smoother. He has been in his new place for about 8 months now and has acclimated to the new lifestyle of being in a place such as this. He loves the guys he plays dominos with and a gal by the name of... Dora I believe, who host the Slam games. He is not much of a gardener but likes to sit out on the patio and tell the others how to care for the plans. This is much like when he use to tell me how to do things around the house as a kid. Enough of my yapping. All in all it's a great place for him.

I liked Albuquerque Grand Senior Living because it was in the city. It was a big building, but everything was locked and closed. The place was more for people who just wanted a nice, comfortable place to stay. The staff was very nice, but I wanted more activities. The food was very good, and the dining area was very nice. It wasn’t so open or lively to me.

The Albuquerque Grand was the one that I visited. The person there, Savana, has been very helpful, and she was willing to work with me, but it would still leave me like $600 a month, and I was not used to living that limited. It used to be a football dorm, so it was very large. The rooms used to be dorms, so they were not appealing to me. They had activities. I believed they had a pool table, a community room, and games. The halls were suffocating, hot, and miserable. I guessed that was to be expected with elderly people because they were cold, but I didn't like that. However, Savana was really helpful and friendly.

We came here to sing as volunteers. The residents first off enjoyed our singing but most importantly they seamed to be enjoying living at this community. They were all down in the dinning room and extremely grateful for our service. They all thanked us for coming out to provide entertainment to them. I did notice how clean an quaint the building is. I stepped into the office of the sales office and she was happy to take time to give me information for my friend who in fact may be in need of their service. The major indicator to myself that this was a great community was the activeness of the residents currently residing there.

The chef is amazing. I loved the meal last week I eat with dad. Dad had picked this place for my mom and himself a few years ago. My has since passed after her battle with breastfeeding cancer. I lived out of state at the time so I had no say in it. That made me nervous as I was not able to see it befor hand. Now I have been back for almost six months and can see he mad a good choice. They were all so great with my mom's passing and gave my dad the extra attention he needed. I'm glad they were there when I could not be.

They have great staff at this place. My mom lives on the east side in the independent part of the building but lately she has needed help with her medication. When she needed this service, Tony got the staff to start immediately. It was an amazing weight off our shoulders. I have noticed a big positive change in her mental state since this has happened. I am very thankful for all of them. Good Job everyone John Vigil
