Brighton Gardens of Edison – Reviews
August 2024
This company does not care about their workers. People have worked their for years and they do not listen to their complaints or needs. This is not only regarding the managers in the community but the corporate managers as well. Many of us complained to the previous human resources manager "[name removed]" and she did the investigations and handed in everything to the current executive director "[name removed]" and previous one too. Unfortunately, nothing was ever done. They didn't even listen to the human resources manager. Monica was the only one that would help us with issues and would even take charge and talk to us to resolve our issues. [name removed] the executive director would just brush everything under the rug and sugar coat things so she looked good. Not taking anything seriously. Many of us left because of [name removed] and even managers transferred to other buildings to get away from [name removed] and her behavior. The previously human resources manager resigned because she was not being listened to and telling [name removed] about her medical conditions and how she could no longer help in the kitchen doing food service work when we were short. She would wash dishes, server, clean up and even managed us for a while. She was treated with no respect and resigned but then wanted to stay and was not given the chance to stay. The current human resources manager that has been there for over a year still does not help us with human resources issues and only tells us to call corporate or that it's not her job. If she does payroll by herself, she still messes thing up and we get short payed and have to wait for the next pay period to get paid. Diane the manager in healthcare is always in the office helping her with payroll and making sure we get paid right. She doesn't even do any functions for us and is not caring like the previous manager. But they keep her there because that is [name removed] friend. "Lisa" the previous assisted living manager transferred to another community because of [name removed] and how she was being treated and felt like [name removed] was being racist against her. We would overhear her talk to other managers about it, but not to corporate because she still works for the company and is scared to get in trouble. Corporate would come to the community ask us questions and when told the truth they still don't make changes. All conversations were supposed to be confidential and they never were. They would go back to the previous and current executive director "[name removed]" and tell them what we said. [name removed] in turn would then treat us with disrespect and make things hard for us to continue working there. There is no loyalty to those that work hard, but those that are always calling out, late and disrespectful they treat well. What's sad is that every time they get a negative review they have a manager, family member or doctor write a great review about the community so their online review scores stay high. The community is always short staffed and team members are forced to work overtime. Almost every day we don't get to take a lunch because of how short staffed we are and it's hard to give great service when we are overworked. If the state came into the community and looked at our Kronos punches they would see how we work without taking lunch and do a lot of doubles because of being short staffed. I would not recommend anyone to work here. It's sad that team members like me and many of my co-workers want to do the best job we can for the residents, but we are not treated with respect and corporate is always covering the executive directors mistakes and treatment of us. They just don't want to keep looking for an executive director because our building has had so many already. [name removed] should not be an executive director there and it's sad how she treats us and talks down to us. She is not polite and caring. The worse departments there is the dietary department where I worked and health care where I helped out too. Many of us are getting together to sue this community and talk about the conditions we are working under. Corporate will be writing a response to this review stating how sorry they are about how I feel and how we can contact corporate with these complaints. The issue is we have and nothing is done. Their replies are lies and they don't help us and keep managers like [name removed] because they don't care anymore. DON'T WORK HERE.

Wonderful staff and very clean facility.

Two weeks ago, I was transferred to Brighton Gardens for the 3rd time in 3 years. After my first admission I would not go anywhere else. I’ve had a couple bad experiences with rehab. But here it’s a whole new world. The staff is wonderful, anyone from the aide’s to the managers make sure each and every patient are comfortable and, cared for. Their rehabilitation Department is also the same. They work vigilantly to make sure everyone reaches their best possible outcome. I can say for sure that everyone goes above and, beyond.

The place is great, but they should get Max the cat back. He was taken away very unfairly. So sad for him.

My father John has been a resident at Brighton Gardens for almost 2 years. I can say that my dad never thought he would ever live a facility like BGE but things happen. Looking back over the past 2 years a lot of things have changed for him and I have to say he is in a good place. The facilities and services are top shelf and clearly meet his physical and health needs. He has thoroughly adapted to the his new home and family and much of that credit to Debbie and her team who go out of their way to make sure his needs are met and he gets the attention that he needs (and sometimes demands). They have very difficult jobs and provide the care and support these residents need, and under difficult conditions, and I never seen them get flustered or upset with the residents. Clearly a group of people who are very kind hearted and committed to their work. As far as my father is concerned he seems to have accepted them and developed personal relationships with them and he appreciates the assistance they provide. I want to say thank you on behalf of my brother, sister and the rest of my family. He is in a good place. Scott Reid

Every facility you could pick for your loved ones has its strengths and shortcomings. What I have found is that its the people that matter most. Here, at BG of Edison, the people have worked at the facility for decades. They love their residents and provide the best possible care for them. I feel comfortable knowing that my father is in good hands.

The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful as my wife and I live in Dover Delaware and cannot visit my brother-in-law often . We would like to single out JoAnn Belonis for going above and beyond to help us with any question or request

I found EVERYONE at Brighton to be wonderful and kind! My mother was in the memory care unit and Debbie and her staff were fabulous!! I couldn't have asked for anything more! Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond my control we had to move mom, but if it were possible I certainly would have kept her there forever!

My mom lived at Brighton Gardens for 18 months. She was very happy there, it was home to her. She made many friends, participated in activities including bingo and crocheting club, attended mass on Sundays. The staff was very attentive and treated her with respect. It is a cheerful facility!

My mom suffered a stroke which left her right side paralyzed and unable to speak, and needing a feeding tube. We put her in Brighton Feb 2013. At first she was in the assisted living section which was well kept and she was well looked after. The dining room served good food and you could eat with her (for a charge). They dressed her every day and made sure she was comfortable. Eventually her health declined and she had to go to the nursing side. She was well cared for. When ever there was a problem we were called and she was sent to the hospital. We were always kept informed. They did re-had as appropriate, we had regular meetings with the care team, and I think it was the best place for her. In April 2016 she declined and died at JFK Hospital. Some of the Brighton staff showed up at my mom's services with flowers. It meant so much to me. I let them dry and have them in my dining room to this day. I decorated my mom's room at Brighton like crazy for every holiday/season. When I returned after her death to take the decorations down, some of the staff - even management, came in and helped me take the things off the walls and pack it all up. It was very touching how much they cared. The staff really cared about my mom. My mom loved them too. Where ever you put your loved one, you must spend time there and get to know the staff - at all different times of the day so they never know when you are coming. Ask questions, be involved, the staff members are usually busy, but always take the time to throw in a kind word and see how they are doing. Help them relate to your loved one; teach your loved one to be a good patient. Politeness, patience, kindness and a genuine care for the other go a long way towards a positive experience where ever you choose. I picked Brighton Gardens and it worked out well for us. Be on top of things and your chances of success will be much greater.

To the Wonderfull staff at Brighton Gardens. Today is Sunday March 20, 2016, and having left Saturday 3/19, I miss you all already. As a group, you are the kindest, caring, hardworking bunch of people that I have ever met. I dont mean some of you, or most of you. I MEAN ALL OF YOU. When I arrived at your place, I was just about as close to cripple as you can get, and was unable to move without a great deal of pain. You guys FIXED that and THANK YOU. What I find so GREAT about all of this, is that we all build new relationships and actually care about each other. With love Jeffrey L ih.
