My sister spent her last chapter is the perfect place. When my sister had to be admitted to a nursing home we had no question that she needed to be in Delmar Gardens South. The staff became family and we appreciate all of the care and compassion given to her. Thank you to everyone!

Had two grandmas spend their final chapter here and, by one of the strangest coincidences imaginable, they both passed away on the exact same day about three hours apart. If nothing else, they clearly believed in carpooling. Let’s be honest: it’s a nursing home. Nobody is expecting a five-star resort with room service and a rooftop infinity pool. The place checks pretty much every box on the average nursing home bingo card. There’s occasionally a lingering urine smell, the staff always seem stretched thin, and you can tell they’re working with limited resources. That said, most of the staff genuinely seemed to care, even if they looked like they deserved a raise, a vacation, and a winning lottery ticket. The facility isn’t glamorous, but it functions. Residents are cared for, families can visit, and life keeps moving. If you’re expecting luxury, you’ll be disappointed. If you’re expecting a fairly average nursing home experience with all the good, bad, and awkward realities that come with elder care, this place lands squarely in the middle. A solid 4 out of 5. Not heaven, not a horror movie. Just kind of nursing-home flavored vanilla. ™

I have done rehab here 3 times from Strokes all the staff from theTherapist (Tonya and so many more have been great), Nursing, Dietary, Housekeeping, the hair dresser, social services, and activities are all so friendly and caring. Everyone seems to like what they do. The staff remembered me from previous visits and have returned just to say hi even when not on my assignment. The food is great and the servers have been so caring and helpful. Overall a very good experience and would not go to SNF rehab anywhere else. My only downside is rehab rooms are not private but to get the care and friendliness that you get here it is so worth it.

For the past seven years, my husband was cared for by so many staff members, from the business office to skilled nursing, therapy, rehab services and his needs were always met by loving and kind people. He could not have been in a better facility. It was clean and the grounds were beautifully kept. Every holiday was a special occasion from the decorations to exceptional food service. A variety of activities were offered on a daily basis and entertainment was provided for the residents . There aren't enough stars to rate the level of qualified medical personnel who attended my husband. It was comforting to know that he had the best of care since I lived far away and could not be there often. The hospice company that was used before his passing, was wonderful. How fortunate are those who live at Delmar Gardens South!

I really like assisted living at Delmar gardens. I know my mother is well taken care of. She is assisted with bathing. Her meals are very nice with a decent variety. They have so many activities to keep everyone busy. The staff is stellar. They all seem to love their jobs and are so kind to everyone. They do her laundry and it is done individually and I didn’t have to mark her clothing. If there is a call to maintenance, they come within minutes to check things out.

The love and caring at DGS has been apparent from the start, and I have always felt we made the right decision for my mother, who is 93 and in the memory unit. Special kudos to the activities director, whose joy and energy are boundless, and the entertainment is excellent. The food is very good if necessarily basic. My mother has never had a serious complaint. My only annoyances have to do with the situation facing all skilled nursing facilities, which is short staffing. It's occasionally challenging to get through the single phone number to the person you need. Also, other residents wander into her room and sometimes walk off with her things.

Good morning Jeanna, I would like to take this time to thank you and all the staff of division 1 for all that Delmar Gardens do for both of my parents ! With that said I would also like to send a special thanks to Cindy for the recent help and all the past help she has giving me. She is very compassionate, supportive and very knowledgeable in all that she does.Through the years I have gone to her for many needs and she has always been there to help regardless of how busy she is at that time. She is definitely a HUGE ASSET to the Delmar Garden family! Thank you , Art Matthews

While they are still short staffed, the staff that is there, bonds with the residents and give very good care. The regular staff of 200 is amazing. The nursing supervisors, especially, off shifts need to offer better support and make rounds. One of the physicians is not approachable, hasn't kept up with modern standards of practice and is very aloof with the residents and family. The nurse practitioners are outstanding. The activity department continues to outdo itself. The place is very clean and looking fresh with the new carpeting. Finally, the patio for 200 was rid of the cigarette butts and cleaned up for sitting out. While we know maintenance is very busy, some simple things shouldn't take 3 or 4 months to be looked into, such as, a toilet sitting off the bathroom floor tile bouncing like a rocking chair in 207. This has been reported multiple times. The housekeepers keep that bathroom very clean. Kudos to the kitchen and laundry departments. All in all, DGS is a 4.7

My husband’s room was filthy. I would clean the chairs, the walls, etc. At times he couldn’t reach call button. Hospice nurse finally explained to me they remove his urinal bottle because he couldn’t use it properly. I bought six blankets to add to the existing (at least) four blankets. No one told me there was a problem. I didn’t realize he was wetting everything. Even though I was there. Certain social workers caused me so much stress and anxiety. They persecuted me and made me make appointments to see him. This went on for months even though I thought they were over it. They gossiped to my daughters about it. I finally contacted corporate. I hope they stop judging and get help. So after that I could sit with Don for hours. We were married for 59years. Marriage isn’t smooth or easy. Hospice was very good. He was bedridden. Had a necrotic foot and that was attended to well. Misty was the only helpful and kind social worker. On the Delmar staff. The administrator was the worst. Would I recommend this facility? Sure. Why? Because they are all alike. Some days and staff are better than others just like every thing else. Would I do this job for a living? No. These are special people who do this job.

Mom was a resident of Delmar Gardens South for 8 1/2 years. While it was devastating to have her be in a long term facility, I am glad we selected Delmar Gardens South. The entire staff from the office, nursing, CNA’s, housekeeping, dietary, therapy, maintenance, activities and any other division I may have missed, were kind, compassionate, and respectful. The staff was always responsive and helpful. Mom was taken care of and was safe. Mom. Thank you Delmar Gardens South.

I had always heard good things about Delmar Gardens South, so when it came time for my mom to go to a nursing home, we thought we had a great place for her. That did not turn out to be the case. We kept my mom at home for as long as we could. She was 102 years old. When she had a fall at home and couldn't get up, she was sent to the hospital and from there to Delmar Gardens South. Her first week there was nothing short of horrible. She was neglected. No one came in to check or change her diapers. They did not bring her food. We had to find someone who worked in the food service to bring her anything. They were very kind and were always surprised she hadn't been given anything to eat. They brought her food very quickly once we asked. Apparently since she couldn't get up and walk to the dining room, the staff didn't think she needed to be fed. Because it was her first week there, the hospice nurse only came once to visit. At her next visit, she was appalled at the lack of care our mom was getting. She advocated for us, and things improved the second week. Yes, we knew Mom would not be getting better or coming home, but they could have at least made an effort to make her comfortable. The hospice nurse had to force them to give Mom pain meds. It was in the doctor's orders, but because my mom was resistant to them, they would just walk away. By that time, Mom's dementia was very bad, and she had no idea what they were giving her. The hospice nurse had to tell them to stop asking her if she wanted the meds and just put the syringe in her mouth. Up until that time, Mom had been moaning in pain. Once I had to stand at the nurses station until she was done telling her co-workers about her car breaking down before she would even acknowledge me. I asked her to give my mom her morphine. It never came while I was there. I think they must hire anyone regardless of their qualifications as a nurse. I did take my complaints to the administration, as did the hospice nurse. As I said, the second week was better, but the damage had already been done. At the end of the second week, Mom was gone. I would NOT recommend leaving your loved one (or even a not-so-loved one) at this facility. The lack of care and compassion is just astounding. I wish we had never taken my mom there. My advice - look elsewhere.

Not impressed. My dad was there for physical therapy. The therapist showed up only once or twice a week at various times unannounced. Spent some time with him then left. No real interest in actually helping my dad. Just trying to check boxes on her list so she could say he reached certain goals, which he truly did not. Staff there was not helpful, not allowing him to get up and exercise unless someone was present, but they were always too busy for him, so no one was ever present. He pressed the Nurse button once to get some help, only to wait 15-20 minutes and the nurse just came in pressed the button to show she was there then immediately left, not saying a word to him. She was too busy.

Nursing home life is not anything I ever expected it to be. My poor mother has dehydration, malnutrition and weight loss of 60 lbs! Yes she is a DNR/DNI, but a woman that was healthy for 89 years when she arrived has diminished to a mere skeleton. The staff takes liberties to her personal belongings, ie cell phone, candy, toiletries. Most of the staff is short on customer service skills, call lights ignored, no recognition when you walk up to the nurses station. State and federal money for their profit, only to have a high turnover rate. Yes, I have complained many times, I am my mothers voice now. I must add that her experience here for rehab, excellent. Nursing home not so much

Almost 7 years ago I was a resident at Delmar Gardens South for a rehab for 2 weeks for my knee replacement. My wife has been a resident at Delmar Gardens South since January 2013 and still resides there. Delmar Gardens South is rated FIVE STARS by Medicare. The staff is always concerned about all the residents and provides outstanding care to all. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone that requires exceptional care. There is always a Nurse on duty 24 hours a day to take care of any needs my wife or other residents might have. Her room is always clean and so is the entire facility. The Executive Director Kim Kraemer always has an open door policy, if you have any issues. Delmar Garden South is rated 5 STARS and so are the employees.

My mother went there for rehab after she broke her hip at 88 years old. They facility is very clean and has very cheerful decorations. The staff is very helpful and caring. When my mom was finished with her rehab she decided to stay there in the nursing care. She has made wonderful friends and continues to thrive at 89 years old. I’m thankful that I have such a wonderful caring community so close to my home. You should definitely check out Delmar Gardens South!

i have very mixed feelings about this place. my grandfather is staying here for rehabilitation and he is not happy here. the first night he arrived, he said he ate lunch at the hospital before he came (at 3 pm) and nobody asked him if he was hungry even when it was 8 pm. we had to ask for his dinner. he also is on oxygen, and they didn't even give him a long enough hose to use the bathroom in his bedroom. he wasnt made aware of his xanax being changed from daily uses to prn and they completely stopped giving it to him which is not healthy. he literally wasnt made aware that he needed to ask for it to get it. they didn't teach him how to work his bed or the call button for the nurses. the only reason im not giving this one star is because its very clean, beautiful, and the staff is very kind and most of them seem to really care about helping the elderly. theyve made my family aware that they are understaffed especially over the weekends, but peoples lives are at stake.

Very mixed feelings about this place. My grandmother lives at this nursing home and she is mostly paralyzed after a stroke she had awhile back. We have been having issues with this place almost daily regarding the care of my grandma. The day shift hardly ever encourages her to eat. They either leave her sleeping or put little effort into getting her to eat. They used to leave her food in her room, out of reach, until we repeatedly told them not to. They leave her call button on the floor all the time so she can't call for help unless she screams for someone, even though there is a clip to keep the call button from falling off the bed, they don't use it. It takes them about a half hour to an hour or more to get someone to come change her or get her into/out of bed when we press the call button ourselves. More than half the time we have to go find someone because they take so long to pay attention to her. The other day they took over an hour to bring her dinner and she was STARVING from not eating all day. The only reason she got her food was because one of my relatives literally had to go into the kitchen and ask someone to make her food. She found the guy playing on his phone instead of making food. It was enraging. One day we went to paint her toe nails and discovered they hadn't been cleaning her feet for who knows how long. They were caked with gunk and it was absolutely disgusting. There really are a few wonderful people who work there and truly care for the residents, but there are also people who clearly don't care about my grandma or the other residents and it is not acceptable. If they are understaffed, the management really needs to do something about it because it is affecting the HUMAN BEINGS living there. I know for a fact that if my family didn't take shifts to check in on her every day, she wouldn't have lasted as long as she has. The only reason I'm not giving this place 1 star is because of the few good staff members that work so hard to assist the elderly.
