I have been here for 5 months and my experiences have all been so positive from the beginning with a warm and welcoming greeting from staff and my fellow residents. General Manager Jerry is great with his open door policy to any concerns, the Clayton neighborhood is inviting and beautiful Shaw Park is truly a gift we can access frequently and easily. I love living here and know everyone would too.

My wife and I have been at Barclay House for approximately 2 months now. Have been very impressed with the friendliness of the staff and (especially) the other residents. We have had the opportunity to mingle with and/or dine with almost every other resident here. These people are inclusive, cordial and very accessible. Social gatherings are frequent and enjoyable. Barclay House is more than an apartment building; it is a community of interesting, active and involved friends. We could not feel more welcome.

I like living at Barclay House because it is vertical, not horizontal. That means the halls are very short and easily navigable by anyone with walking difficulties. The people are very friendly and I have made many friends here. I see more people at dinner in the evening than I would see in a month while living in our house.

My mother lived at the Barclay House for almost 21 years before she passed away this past December at 103 years old. I ended up temporarily living at the Barclay House for the past year and a half down the hall from my mother to be there for her as she took the last part of her journey of her life. I cannot sing higher praises for the building, the residents and the staff. My mother absolutely loved living there from the first day she moved in and was very active with all the activities and boards she joined. She made amazing friends and loved everyone who worked there. Everyone was so caring to her throughout her life at Barclay - she could not have been happier living there. I got to experience the same when I moved in myself. Most of the residents I had already known by visiting my mom most everyday prior to moving in. Everyone is so friendly, caring, loving and such a fun group of people - diverse and simply amazing people who I dearly love. The staff from Jerry the General Manager to the doorpeople, to the dining room/kitchen staff, to the housecleaners and Bethesda people - they are just fantastic people who become family and will all always have a special place in my heart. I can't say enough about how wonderful everyone at Barclay House has been to me and my family - especially my mother. I can honestly say - they are the best of the best! The whole Barclay House experience could not have been better for my mother and I would highly suggest it to anyone I know for their loved ones without hesitation.

The people really are a community where everyone kindly supports one another and loves to laugh. The staff are caring and efficient and wonderful. The food is great! The building is quiet and we appreciate the very large windows.

My wife and I have enjoyed living at Barclay for three years and we are glad we moved in when we did. We find our fellow residents friendly, the apartments spacious, the staff courteous, the kitchen highly capable, and the location perfect. When we've rarely had problems, the staff — especially General Manager Jerry — exhibit a can-do attitude.

There are three things I particularly like about Barclay House. Because it is in a high rise everything is extremely convenient. The dining room, lobby, mail room, swimming pool, hair dresser, exercise room, etc. are only as far away as the elevator is from your apartment door. No need for a golf cart to get from here to there. Second, you never have to cook again. You can if you want, but have a choice. After a lifetime of cooking it's nice not to have to. And last, the people who live here are very friendly. It's a real community, which we didn't expect.

My husband and I moved to Barclay House a little over two years ago. We had planned for a number of years and chose Barclay House. We were taken with the people already here, and have made many new friends since we moved in. I especially like living in Clayton, near to so many cultural institutions (having grown up in a very rural area). And I like living in a high-rise, where there are no long corridors and everything is a short walk and a short elevator ride away. We looked at many places where I would have needed a golf cart and a GPS to find the dining room. We love it here.

My wife, Mary, & I have lived at Barclay House for 5 years. Our only regret is that we didn't move in earlier. The staff at Barclay House goes out of their way to make living here a blessings. The only reason I didn't give Barclay a five star rating is that no person or organization is perfect.

My parents are residents at Barclay House. When my wife and I visit, we try to stay in one of the two family apartments available for out of town family members. These rooms are spacious, simple but very comfortable, clean and convenient. The staff at Barclay are incredible people and make our stay warm and welcoming, and always have time to answer a question or just simply chat. In particular, I'd like to mention Janie Bradford, Housekeeping Supervisor. Janie is great to talk with, ensures that we are comfortable and have what we need, helps make the transition from travel to staying and back to travel seamless, and is all-around friendly and personable. I appreciate her help in making our visits easy and enjoyable. I'd also like to mention Raymond Gentry, who works in the dining room, a man for whom I have great respect. Raymond has worked at Barclay as long as I have visited, and has always made me feel at home there, and works hard to provide excellent meals for all residents and guests.
