Parts of this community are progressive and positive. Independent and Assisted Living areas are well recommended. However, my mother went there for rehab. She was placed in the skilled nursing unit where she was behind locked doors. At that point she was basically helpless, unable to move her arms and legs without help. She was only there from Friday afternoon until Monday morning, when she was taken into the hospital following an extremely traumatic event that happened to her in the skilled nursing area. We were not able to document what happened, although I did witness part of it, so there was no way to pursue action against Armour Oaks other than to file a complaint with the state. As the state investigator said, "There is no 'smoking gun'." They simply recorded what I had seen, but were unable to talk to my mother due to her trauma. The state interviewed the staff, but because those who knew what happened and might tell what they knew, also knew that doing so would probably cost them their jobs. Technically, Armour Oaks skilled nursing was not in violation of regulations, so they were not cited. However, because they were not technically cited, they were able to continue on as if nothing had happened. Be advised. I was there with my mother for most of the time she was there. I feel sorry for people dumped there for months with no advocate. If this happened on my watch, it can happen with your lived one, too. Edit: My mother now lives with me and just celebrated her 100th birthday. It took months of counseling along with medication before her panic attacks stopped. It has only been within the last year that she started talking about what happened. She has been able to describe the man and what he did to her. To hear her describe the details of what that man did to her made my heart break. I was not contacted for a follow-up by anyone other than the individual from the state office that oversees licensing. He agreed with me as to why nobody on staff would say anything. Everyday I thank my lucky stars that she did not have to endure any more than what she did. But I was the one who sat with her night after night when she awoke in a panic and having trouble breathing as the memories came rushing back. She can now tell me in pretty good detail what actually happened and what the man looked like, and it was far from appropriate.

The management and staff need to take better care of the residents rooms while most of the seniors living there cannot do it themselves. The plus side is that the residents seem to be pretty happy there otherwise.

My wife and I moved into Armour Oaks in the villas May, 2019. We chose this because the non-profit mission was founded in 1869 to help widows and orphans. Another item was it would not kick any one out for lack of funds. We thought we should support this. After visiting 5 other senior places, we decided on Armour Oaks. When we were looking, I was in poor health. Armour Oaks operates senior living in the villas and senior apartments. They also have assisted and long term care. Because of my health, this gave us security they would be able to take care of me. Luckily my health so far has gotten better. We are impressed with the staff in helped us with any problems we had. For instance, in the spring of 2024 on a Friday evening, we had a bad storm with heavy winds and hail. Our roof was hit with 2 large limbs - one over our bedroom and our dining room. They were checking all roofs early Saturday morning and found 2 holes from these limbs. They worked until 9:30 pm to fix the problem. They knew that it was to rain on Sunday. Also with 2 kitchens on site, we can chose to pay for what is on the menus. We were also impressed with security, mail delivery, snow and ice removal, leaves and trash pick up and lawn care. We are very happy our choice. And several times we had to ask the nurses to check us out for reasons medically to go to hospital or okay to handle it ourselves. Sincerely Jerry and Christine Hurlbert

Last week a friend asked how it’s working for me living at Armour Oaks, and I told her truthfully I’ve been here almost four years now and enjoy many things about living here - mainly being with a community of peers - we all deal with (and understand) similar aches and pains, forgetting names, and wasting time looking for misplaced stuff, so we share and laugh about it all. I’m glad I moved here while I can still enjoy both worlds - the independent apartment amenities (included in our monthly fee!) like weekly housekeeping, three tasty meals daily that are planned-shopped for-cooked-served-and-cleaned up, weekly bus trips with drop off at front door of interesting sites such as Tuskegee Airmen exhibit at Bruce Watkins Cultural Center, The Negro Leagues and KC Jazz Museums, and the WWI Museum, and interesting conversations during meals and activities WHEN I’M HERE; because I’m still driving and get out and about several times each week as I continue being involved in my church and several community organizations. I can walk safely throughout our several acre campus with many beautiful old trees and a charming pond, and it’s a pleasure to entertain my friends and family in my comfy apartment, by our cozy fireplace, or out on our shady veranda. These photos show the view out of one of my large windows, a recent meal at lunchtime, Chex Mix made in my ample kitchen for residents cheering on the Chiefs, and Friday Morning Coffee and Conversation in Parks’ 3rd floor sunroom, and my front door

Every person in the Armour Oaks office has been extremely helpful with my Move-In process. Julie, Mike, Kyle, and Phil receive special compliments for making sure that my new home is exactly as I want it to look. I have been part of the entire redecorating process of my Villa. They are genuinely as excited as I am to be a part of the Armour Oaks Community. I thoroughly researched 6 different places to live. I am truly grateful that I chose Armour Oaks for my future home.

This place was a godsend from her mother. Well maintained, decent to good food, light-filled apartment, fine people. When she suddenly needed help, Agape aides were there to take care of her. I can't say enough good things.

why would a senior living center of all places have an entire group staffed that just hates interacting with people? i’m referring to upper management mostly. the administrator, the marketing team, the the maintenance staff, the financial support team, ect. no matter a resident, prospective resident, staff, prospective employee, anything that touches this place. these members just seem to not want to interact with the public whatsoever. they will ignore and avoid you, make you feel like an inconvenience, make you feel like you’re intruding on something simply for being in contact with them whatsoever. and that’s the one in a million times they’re actually at work during business hours. 5 stars for the (i’m sure underpaid) people who make this place run. the nurses. the servers. the receptionist. the resident services staff. the social services staff. the staffing department. ect. you guys rock and i pray your kindness is not taken advantage of much longer. edit: why would i be satisfied speaking with isaac when he has already been spoken to? when residents and staff have tried to reason with him multiple times? nonetheless he, alongside all upper management, continue to avoid their jobs and dance around their issues. the other day, a resident told me that they asked for a social worker and were directed to isaac instead. this is a job for the ombudsman and the state. not one to be solved by a one on one conversation with isaac. who is notorious for writing off concerns and dismissing residents as forgetful and over dramatic. i would advise anyone to be wary going into a conversation with any of the leaders here. sad, you should be able to trust those who choose to be in this industry to not take advantage of those who cannot express themselves freely. it is a game to them. a game of inaction, avoidance, and general disdain for seniors and staff as a whole.

I am a very happy resident of Armour Oaks. No one has asked me, or put me up to write this review. The food is excellent with a decent variety. The Coloring Class is a lot of fun! We also play Monopoly (an old favorite of mine), and those of us who wish to get together for Posi-Talk, which is just what it sounds like: a time to share the happy, meaningful and satisfying things in our lives. The staff in the dining room is attentive, and immediately gets the things we may ask for. (Ketchup, for instance). I greatly enjoy conversation with my table-mates and the food is very good. We have salads with lunch and (I’m pretty sure) dinner, and great desserts. A vegetarian can manage, and it is also possible to order from an alternative menu, (I’m pretty sure.) The daily menu is a little heavy on meat for my taste, but it seems that everyone (including me) appreciates how nicely cooked and served it is. I hope that if you are looking for a nice Assisted Living, you check it out. I believe there is a waiting list, and you may need to get on the list awhile you intend to move.

my mom has been here in the skilled nursing rehab with very good care. the facility is more being in a first claa hotel. They also have efficiency assisted living units very nice. It also has the neoclassical build beautiful entry empire furniture in entry hall, screened sitting porchs with 12 foot ceilings. They have a on site Styling salon serving the community, moms hair never looked better. i was looking at the mens cuts- very good. -. they also have duplex units complete with 2 bedrooms, kitchen, dining rooms and fire places. each unit has large private patios for family get together s. They have a new assisted living apartment building with the neoclassical colonial design just opened Just excellent. I believe 2 bedrooms, kitchens, dining rooms, again large rooms all with 12 foot ceilings, crown moldings first class fixtures carpeting, very homey indeed. The grounds are fine. The acres are reminiscent of an English country estate complete with the large wrought iron fencing ans gates. The main dining room again neoclassical columns hardwood floors- fine dining and also the food is a cut above the average fair. The location of Aurmor oaks is great. Two blocks from a grocery store, walking distance to taco bell mcdonalds, subway and Chinese takeout, Greek resturant. but even better 7 min by car to the wardparkway shopping mall complete with indoor shopping, 10 theater complex, attached target store and the gem TRADER JOES, also old navey, shoe stores, star bucks, fountains ect. etc. 4 minutes to the north waldo, with all kinds of restaurants. then 12 min to the country club plaza and the nelson atkins museum of art. The medical staffing very good and the balance also nice folks, from security to cleaning.- if looking for a nice place- that does NOT seem like your in some medical place but a good English home or getaway- this would be your place
