Scott and Marty run a facility that well suited to accommodate the support and care that my father needs at this point in his life. His condition requires care and attention, so luckily the facility isn't the only thing that is well suited, but the staff is a whole cohort of folks that are fun and caring. I see the effort and tenderness they put into their work, even when it can be very demanding emotionally. Living across the country knowing that my father has the care he needs is a peace of mind that Chester street offers, and that is priceless.

The staff treated him with such kindness, dignity, and compassion every single day. They didn’t just provide care ” they built relationships. They went out of their way to make sure he was comfortable, supported, and genuinely cared for. What meant the most to us was how they also supported our family. I have been a frequent visitor at Chester Street Residence for the past few years, to see my friend's mother. I have been quite impressed with the quality of this community! The caregivers are top-notch professionals who have always welcomed me in, are quite accessible -- and treat residents with loving compassion and caring attention to detail. I have learned quite a bit from them, just by observing. The facilities are modern, well-appointed, clean, well-organized, and homelike -- not institutional in feel. I have enjoyed lunch in the dining room a couple of times with my friend's mother; it is always a great experience. The food is tasty, fresh, well-prepared, and beautifully presented. The table service is impeccable. The activities are mindfully led and guided. The daily routines of the facility are meaningful and consistent. It is clear that the staff loves their residents, and is very familiar with and attentive to their individual preferences. Highly recommend!

I always see how well taken care of everyone is and just how loved they are. I do activities with the residents here and the best part of my day is spending time with them. I cannot express enough how thoughtful, kind and caring Chester Street was to my mom for the last 3 months of her life. She was pampered, spoiled and doted on! Mom raved about the food and her sweethearts’ that tended to her every need. The most touching was as we passed in the procession, they can out to pay their final respects. The owners and caregivers are wonderful with the residents. EVERYONE treats EVERYBODY as FAMILY. In my experience, I have never seen more loving and caring staff than I have seen at Chester Street. The caregivers TRULY care about their residents, they get to know the residents and care about them as if they were their own family !! Our mom lived at Chester Street from February, 2022 until she passed away last month (in September 2023). We realized she could no longer live by herself and had to get her someplace quick. We were so lucky to find Chester Street. They were extremely helpful in getting her all her DMEs (durable medical equipment), such as wheelchair, hospital bed, etc. They set her up with in-house doctors and even an eye doctor. We had no idea how to go about getting her set up - and they did it all! My mom really liked the place. The staff took her under their wing and she enjoyed her interactions with them. Whenever she went to lunch, or any other function, the staff members all had a kind word for her. The last two months or so, our mom went downhill pretty quickly. They kept us updated on her condition and had very good communication with us. I think the communication was what I liked most. And one thing that I must mention - the food was good! Thanks to everyone at Chester Street who made the last year or so with my mom the best it could be.

I visit my friend all the time and even join her for lunch, especially when we are able to eat on their patio. It is just beautiful and the food is always delicious. The chef is right from Italy and I believe her food is great. The rooms are very nice too ! Ive been in many facilities before and by far this is the most beautiful and very clean. The staff is always friendly and extremely helpful at all times. My friend could not be happier and she has met some really nice friends or as she says "her neighbors are great". I would highly recommend Chester Street.

I have had various connections with Chester Street Residence since they opened several years ago. For me to say that the residents care and well being is their main priority is an understatement. Over and above the excellent and caring staff, the owners and management team get to know each and every resident personally, are aware of their care needs, goals, likes and dislikes and personally communicate with the family members regularly. I have witnessed the owner sit with residents at the hospital, if family is not available, so his resident would not be alone, and if you call after hours, it goes directly to owner/managements cell phones, and is answered immediately. During the pandemic, Marty the owner provided on-site testing for residents, family's and clinicians, right at the facility, so no connections or care needs were ever put on hold. This kind of attention is unheard of in this day and age. No matter what is going on in the outside world, their care never waivers.

My mom was unable to walk and had left a rehab facility with a bedsore on her heal. We were assured that here she would get the wound care and services she needs to help her gain her ability to walk. We moved my mom into a beautiful sunny room and everyone has been so kind and helpful. My mom is getting pt and the nurse is helping with wound care. My mom is lucky she has a place like this..and is getting the care she needs. The family is grateful to the entire staff.

We had a wonderful experience with Chester Street Residence when my dad was in their care with late stage Alzheimer’s Disease. The care staff and management team truly cared about him and treated him like family. When we had financial difficulties and bumps on the road along the way, the team at Chester Street was very supportive and accommodating and worked with us to find a financial arrangement that worked out for us and ensured the best care for our dad. They were also very supportive and helpful when navigating Hospice Care and end of life decisions. Can’t recommend highly enough.

We moved our mother into Chester Street Residence in July of 2020. Her declining health and increasing dementia really left us no option. Our Mom detested hospitals and anything "institutional," so we were so happy to find Chester Street right around the corner from us. The personal attention of Marty, Scott, and (at the time) Kathy were the antithesis of other places we considered. They were extremely helpful and considerate through the entire process of moving her in and throughout her stay there. Their focus on having caregivers being "dedicated" to individual residents is the key to their success. My brother and I really felt that Netta care personally for our Mom, and the attention that she (and the tight group of caregivers who looked after our Mom) gave was heartfelt. CSR did the best that they could to manage her care through the COVID crisis. We visited often through her first floor window, and the staff was always very responsive when we would call to request they open her window and get her in a wheelchair when we arrived, and to get her back comfortable when we left. I feel we should have tried their patience long ago, but they were always friendly and there when we needed them. We were able to visit her on the porch when it was warm, and they devised a smart indoor visit system when it turned cold. Marty advised us well on getting hospice when she needed it, which was a blessing. Sadly, she passed at the end of October. But I know that her last few months were better than they might have been thanks to the attention and care given by everyone at Chester Street Residence. Thank you for caring for our Mom.

I have to make a special effort to visit this website and tell the world what a fantastic facility Chester Street Residence (CSR) is. My family and I had an elderly friend, we considered an aunt, who moved into CSR over a year ago. She celebrated her 100th birthday there. She had been widowed for decades and had no children. She was previously in another facility that was horrendous. We and her court appointed guardian would not allow that for our lady. Bunny, as we called her, had a private room, with round the clock caregivers, was fed, bathed and well-dressed daily and had visiting companions at all times of day and evening. We all knew that she was extremely well cared for, as she deserved. For her 100th birthday party, the staff and management even assisted and participated with about 25 friends, extended relatives and former neighbors. Ultimately a few days later, Bunny had to go into hospice care at CSR. Nevertheless, there was nothing different as to attention, pain management, sincerity, and comfort of Bunny. The hospitality to Bunny, as well as all of us others who loved her, was first class. Martin Seltzer, his son Scott, their administration and staff was nothing but what we could hope for for our Bunny's last days. She peacefully departed this life in the best place possible. In this day and age, hearing about the "bad places" is common. We insist upon telling about this "great one"!

Excellent Care When my dad’s dementia got to the point where living alone was not safe, my sister and I had to look for a new place for him. It was a long process and we looked at several options, like adult day cares and other facilities. Luckily, we were introduced to the team and facility at Chester Street Residence. From the very beginning our questions and concerns have been answered. When we walked out of our first meeting with Marty, we knew this was the perfect place for my dad. The building faces a side street (Chester) in Royal Oak just off Crooks. The neighborhood is quiet and very walk-able for when we stop by and take my dad out. On the interior the place is always kept clean and the residents all seem healthy and happy. The staff is always welcoming to us when we visit and I always feel a connection. I can’t rave enough about the quality of care, responsiveness to issues, communication, management, and food. The My dad is happy in his new routine at Chester Street Residence. I highly recommend for anyone looking for memory care for a loved one. For us it was a perfect fit.

I need to give a huge thank you and highly recommend Chester Street Residence in Royal Oak to anyone faced with putting a family member in assisted living/memory care. 5 days ago my mom was sent to Beaumont. The owner personally called me on Sunday afternoon when moms vitals were not stable. They were on top of this and unlike a year ago (when she was in a different facility) it was caught before she fell and had further injuries. He then went with her to the emergency room and waited with her until I could get there. He has personally reached out daily to check on my mom. This place is beyond phenomenal. The staff is amazing, there is no turnover. My mom is clean and dressed no matter when I visit. Despite her declining dementia, they treat her with dignity and respect. I can’t say enough amazing things. She is on her way back to Chester Street now and I know she will be greeted with tons of hugs from the staff. So huge shout out to Marty Seltzer and his staff for running a first class facility.

I have visited Chester Street Residence for several years doing Art Therapy with their residents. I love coming here for so many reasons. The residents are great to work with no matter what type of project or activity I bring that day. The staff are professional and attentive to the residents and always make me feel welcome and appreciated. The Owners are onsite and super easy to work with. They are very active in the community with the residents too. I would definitely recommend looking here if your loved one needs an assisted living or memory care community!

I recently was named Guardian/Conservator for a long time neighbor. Already discouraged from her current nursing home care, I immediately began a search for alternative care. My expectations were far from optimistic. After meeting with Marty, owner of Chester Street Residence, I felt it the perfect fit for my neighbors needs. Within a week a seamless transfer was made to Chester Street Residence. The difference is the quality and quantity of care. They are efficient at the delivery of care and truly realize that the resident comes first. I found personal customer service from a caring staff. Chester Street Residence has the warm and caring approach one would expect from an assisted living facility. Without a doubt, this is an elite residence in the metropolitan area.

At the young age of 69, my father found himself unable to maintain stable health even at an independent living residence. Before Chester Street, he had been living at an independent living facility with over 100 residents. His diabetes and depression proved such a facility to be inadequate for him and his needs. I live out of state and as his POA, I had a short time to find a new home for him. I visited/interviewed several group homes in the metro Detroit area, ranging from 4-30 residents. I could not be happier with our choice to make Chester Street his last home. Although Chester Street had a higher monthly bill than many of the others that I looked at, it was well worth it. Marty, the owner was an excellent communicator. His experience in elder care is invaluable. He was a great ally to have, dealing with my fathers illness long-distance. The in-house staff was great and really made my father feel at home. Marty had recommendations for everything my father needed from a general practitioner to specialists to hospice at the end of his life. The facility is clean, welcoming and seems to be well designed for people of all abilities. My father never had any complaints about the food (which was not the case with any other facility he had frequented). If you are looking for a place for a person who needs a lot of personal attention, you need to visit Chester Street Residence.
