Rose at Providence Park – Reviews
April 2023
If you really loved your parent, or anyone for that matter who you are considering sending to this location, DONT. Run as fast as you can. Management is absolutely terrible. You'll swear the people you meet are nice and friendly but it's a facade to get your money. Executive Director is never in office & always promising to share time with residents but she is never anywhere to be found, this is a consistent thing. Overheard her talking nasty about residents. Not sure if she’s even best for this role, other than having a degree she is terrible. They'll tell you she's in her office but really, she's never in the building. The whole building could be in disarray but she'll blame everyone else on her terrible management skills. She talks down on the employees, blames them for everything and never takes accountability. Cooks use hands to put food on residents plates. Care staff laughs at and or talks down to residents. Turn over rate is awful. Don't be fooled by the smiles, sweet talk and structure of building. Save your money and run.

My mother was a resident at Rose Senior Living for 14 months, until her recent passing in Jan. 2023. She went into Rose (assisted living) kicking and screaming (having lost my father a year earlier and slowly debilitating to where it was no longer safe for her to live alone). I was expecting it to be a tough acclimation but after about the first month she gained her footing, a bunch of new friends, activities to do and even staff that she could rely on for both personal and professional needs. It wasn’t perfect all the time but I know that the management and staff always had the best interest of my mom in mind. They were readily available to help, the nursing staff was amazing and every team member, including the Medtechs, Aides, and Director Taylor were kind and loving. As my mother started to struggle it was very difficult, constant hospital visits, rehab and the like. One of the key benefits was having the attending team at Providence Hospital also supporting medical needs at Rose so there was a continuum of care (so everyone was on the same page). We recognized that my mother had limited time and Rose could not have made things better for us. Our family held vigil for several days, 24/7, the Rose team not only helped her but supported us as well. They laughed with us, cried with us, and when she finally passed they grieved with us. The best you can hope for when placing trust in elder care is that your loved one will be treated with care and respect. We got all of that and much much more and for that I will always be thankful to the Rose team.

We’ve been very pleased with Rose Senior Living in Novi since our mom moved into memory care in early November 2022. The memory care director is excellent, highly organized, and very engaged with the residents and families. The facility is beautiful, clean, and comfortable and mom is very happy there. Rose has gone an extra step of caring for our mom’s strict dietary requirement (celiac diet) as well. All in all we are very satisfied and are pleasantly surprised by how well our mom has adjusted to her new home. We highly recommend Rose Senior Living.

When my mother-in-law first moved into The Rose she was in the assisted living area where she had freedom to walk through the living area and socialize. She really enjoyed being there and was making friends. They even had her help decorate the Christmas trees which she enjoed. The only help she truly needed at this point was to have her medications given to her. As she began to show more memory issues they encouraged us to move her to their Memory Care area; we did so immediatly. Her experience in the Memory Care area was quite disappointing. My mother-in-law still had a lot of positive cognative abilties and she loved to be busy and go on walks. She was always an outdoor woman who loved nature and gardening. Our family was called often because my mother-in-law would open doors to go outside for a walk. When she did this, the alarm would go off to let the attendants know that the door was opened. They did have to retrieve her and bring her back in. I understand this was a safety concern, but we though Memory Care could handle this because wondering goes along with many dementia patients. My husband and I were visiting her one day when an attendant said she set off the alarm on the door because she went outside. I replied by saying "Well this is why there are alarms on the door, afterall she is in Memory Care." Anyone could tell my mother-in-law was not as advanced in dementia as some of the other ladies. She stilled enjoyed conversation. She was a school teacher and anyone could have carried on a conversation with her on that topic. We were happy when they hired a Social Director. She set up a table for my mother-in-law with drawing supplies as she could tell my mother-in-law was artistic. The social director told us after a few weeks she was quitting because of the staff; she did not give specifics. We were disppointed to hear this as we knew my mother-in-law would once again be put in front of a television. The attendants went to the administrator and told them my mother-in-law was always setting off the alarm and our family received a phone call telling us that we needed to hire a 24/7 attendant for her. Our family didn't understand why we would have to pay for a private attendant to stay with her when we were already paying over $6000.00 a month for her to be in Memory Care. One time my mother-in-law was ill and had to go to the emergency room at night. When my brother-in-law brought her back in the middle of the night he found an attendant sleeping in her room in her chair. We did notify the administrator as we found this to be totally unacceptable. My husband who is retired goes to see his mom daily and other family members are there quite often so we could see her lack of stimulation and made the decision to move her to Arden Circle. This is the best move we could have made for her and she is happier than ever. The attendants actually attend to her. She is doing crafts, making flower arrangements, attending stretching classes, singing, playing memory activities, going to church services, and has outdoor access at any time because the coutyard is gated and locked. This is just our experience and other people may have a totally different experience. Our mother was too active for their Memory Care Unit. As I stated before, she loved the time she spent in the assisted living area, but not in Memory Care......two very different experiences. This Memory Care Unit did not fit the needs of our mom.

Rose Senior Living is an esqisite facility filled with loving and compassionate staff. They would come in to visit my mom, Anna when they thought my sister was sleeping, and tell my mom how much they loved her, and how great she was. They adored my mom and made her feel so loved. They made this difficult process bearable. They were there for me when I feel apart. They spoke to me and helped us all. They became like family to us. Its a gorgeous facility and kept clean. The staff wasnt just loving towards our mom, but to everyone. I know that people say things out of grief and get very critical of others so they can feel like they have some type of control in a hopeless situation. We cant change the fact that my mom had a terrible disease, but they did bring her joy, comfort, love, and peace. I am grateful to them and if I ever get my moms disease, heaven forbid, I would want to live at Rose Senior Living. I wonder if they give family discounts? Bad joke, I know, its a coping mechanism. We lost Mom on Saturday, and the grief overtakes me sometimes...but I am comforted that her last days were at Rose Senior Living, where people treated her like family. I rarely give five stars, but I just gotta give them five because the website wont allow me to give them 10. If you love your parents, do them and your family a HUMONGOUS favor, and bring your love one here.

My mother Kathy moved in during the summer of 2018. Here is what she has to say about Rose Senior Living. I love living here and I feel very safe. The staff is wonderful and very helpful. I enjoy the dining room and the view outside on my balcony is splendid. The bus service is very convenient for shopping and going to church. It has been a terrific experience from day one.

CAN WE TALK? I have moved, not one, but two moms into Rose Senior Living. My mother had already had a previous experience at another senior living facility that I will not name because it became a very negative experience. As a result, we did a lot of research before choosing Rose. She was so elated with the staff, her own private space, the food, the entertainment and the other residents that when it was time to move my husbands mom home from Florida, into Rose she went! We brought her home kicking and screaming and feared the worst, but she adores it! She has made a group of friends like she has never had before and cannot get over how the staff bends over backwards to please everyone. Her favorite line is my only problem is, I have no problems. All the stress has been eliminated from their lives and they look forward to each day. I cannot thank the staff enough, I wish I could list them all by name-they were born to do this! Lisa Zeldes

My grandmother has been at the Rose for almost two years. She was extremely reluctant to go at first as she felt like she was giving up her independence (she lived alone in a condo). It only took about two months after moving in to the independent living before we could see she was coming around to it. Now, she absolutely loves it. Independent living gives her the option to either stay in her apartment and do her own thing, or get out and participate in the many activities they have. The Rose takes her to all doctors appointments, they have shuttles to and from grocery stores. The only compliant she ever has is a dislike in most movies they show in their little theater (they really should improve the selections). Other than that our family has had little to no issues with them and the staff is always friendly to me when I walk in for my visits. Its always well kept and every resident I run into seems very content.
