Reviews Sentinel Pointe Retirement Community
July 2026
This community is darling! I work for a hospice company, and it’s one of my favorite spots to visit. I brought my son with me last week since it was my last account of the day and the community let my 5 year old join in a game of bags. I know Summer and Sara are all hands on deck when it comes to supporting their community.

Everyone is really friendly, very clean facility, beautiful wooded property!

Kevin and his team do a great job providing a clean and supportive environment for seniors. Definitely check out Sentinel Pointe!

Although I live far away from Grand Rapids and have not experienced Sentinel Pointe myself, I think it is a great institution. My uncle stays there, and based on what I see on Facebook, he has a good life there.

Nice staff, kept grounds and the inside was clean!

Sentinel Point is such a warm and inviting community. The staff is some of the kindest and most caring that I have encountered. They always go above and beyond for the residents. Every time I visit, everyone is so friendly. The residents all seem very happy and well cared for. Had the opportunity to try the food on multiple occasions and it was delicious. So many activities and outings to choose from. They are a wonderful asset to the community!

I am so glad my mom is at Sentinel Pointe! They know her and are concerned for her like family would be! The new Chef is providing REAL, delicious and nutritious meals three times a week, and the Bistro is staffed by dedicated, sweet, helpful folks! I just spent a week there (caring for my mom) and kind of regretted coming home!

My dad lived at Sentinel Pointe Retirement Community for 2.5 years, and it was a good fit for him and our family. The staff were always friendly and accommodating, and my dad made many good friends with staff and residents. The Sentinel Pointe team creates and holds many events to help residents connect, find enjoyment outside their apartments, and make the property feel like "home." Seasonal decorations, weekly live entertainment, church services on site, exercise classes, and off-site outings were some of the things my dad enjoyed regularly. The staff went out of their way to learn our family members' names, and always made us feel welcome when we came to visit. My dad moved because he needed more care, and it was a difficult decision for him to leave the friends he had made in the past couple of years. Many thanks to the Sentinel Pointe team for their care and friendship to my dad and our family.

I have nothing but good things to say about this place. Sherry took the time to answer all our questions and she listened to everything my mom and I had to say. The food at the restaurant was great (A+ egg salad!) with really attentive (but not pushy) wait staff (high five to Brandon). The front desk people were very nice (I even watched them talk to a couple residents and they were nice to them too). The apartment is spacious. Everything makes me glad my mom chose this place to move into now that she can't do steps easily.

My parents moved in a couple of years ago. This was a difficult transition for them. The staff at Sentinel Pointe helped make it easier. They are the tremendous and truly caring individuals who step in where needed to make SP a comfortable place for so many. In addition, the size of the rooms, the beautiful views of trees and wildlife ( deer, turkey, owls, black squirrels and many birds) make for a wonderful attraction.

My mom moved to Sentinel Pointe in December and LOVES it there. Each and every staff member we have encountered is warm and welcoming.
February 2023
The staff has been terrific - especially Sherry - at keeping the residents busy and making them feel at home.

Sentinel Pointe has proven to be a great choice for senior living! When my loved one moved there, we were concerned that she would have trouble navigating a new place. Boy were we wrong! When she was unsure, others there stepped in to help her. The daily interaction for meals and fun activities have brought out a whole new confident person! She loves it here! And the meals are exceptional! We are grateful for finding a place that is engaging, caring, safe, and with a staff that is second to none.
February 2023
My parents have been very happy living at Sentinel Pointe. They look forward to the weekly musical concerts, the trips to the stores, and the breakfast bistro. The Sentinel Pointe staff are always cheerful in greeting the residents and eager to accommodate their requests. As their son, I am grateful mom and dad chose Sentinel Pointe. It has given me a peace of mind knowing they live there.
February 2023
Sentinel pointe offers a good value for a smaller senior living facility. During COVID lockdowns, the staff kept the residents staff during a difficult time and communicated with family members about what was happening. The staff know the residents by name and are very friendly. While there have been challenges with staffing, just like all businesses, I think the staff has rallied and tried to fill in the gaps.
February 2023
I loved Sentinel Pointe when my Mom moved in 5 years ago! Classy dining room, lovely apartment, fine quality through and through. I especially appreciated the caliber of the food offered at meals - not just Gordon Food Service crud. Alas, I got Covid while I was visiting Mom at Christmas, and witnessed first-hand the deplorable food you were now giving residents. No balanced nutrition. Actually, no nutrients AT ALL! Nothing freshly prepared, almost no vegetables, nothing that wasn't coated in a layer of breading. I was served one of the Gordon's frozen chicken pieces that literally had more coating than meat! I don't know how a diabetic survives there anymore. And it certainly isn't worth what my Mom is paying for her food service. And the one meal I had in the dining room - there were no tablecloths or cloth napkins. NO CLASS. NO QUALITY.
February 2023
My experience differs from my fathers experience. I am very pleased because I see a staff who really cares. There are a lot of activities. It always looks very clean. However, there is a serious problem keeping some of the staff.
February 2023
Our mom has been a resident at Sentinal Pointe for over three years now and we couldn’t be more pleased with her being there. The last three years has been tough for everyone in all businesses, but the fine people at Sentinal always put the residents first and did whatever it took to make sure their needs were met and that they were safe and healthy. They have been making some recent and aggressive changes that have been very positive and show that they are serious about keeping Sentinel Pointe a first class assisted living facility. We heartily recommend Sentinal Pointe to anyone searching for this type of facility! Steve K.

Upon our first tour of Sentinel Pointe we were greeted by friendly, caring staff in a beautifully appointed and clean facility. Charming apartments, meals, housekeeping and many social activities are part of the Sentinel Pointe experience. The apartments allow independence and privacy and the staff provide just the right amount of support if/when needed. The activities are endless and provide wonderful opportunities to make friends and socialize at any comfort level. Sentinel Pointe Retirement Community is a great option for those looking for a stress free environment in their golden years.
February 2023
I am at Sentinel Pointe weekly to visit my brother and the people are all so friendly, every time. The staff seem to take pride in their work and it shows. If I leave a message for a staff person, it is generally returned pretty quickly. I would gladly recommend SP to anyone. So far, so good. Thank you for a job well done.

We are so happy we choose Sentinel Pointe for our Father’s new home! Everyone there is so patient and friendly! He loves all of the activities and staff! He feels safe knowing they check on him! We can’t say enough about how much we love it and how nice it is having our father feel loved and cared for!
January 2022
The love and care that my mother receives is such a blessing from the SP staff and Health Care Associates. Not only do they lover her up, they treat her with such respect. Both my husband and I are so grateful!
January 2022
Sentinel Pointe has been an excellent choice of community for my mom. She loves the beautiful view of the woods and ravine from her apartment. The staff is very friendly and seems more like family than staff. She also loves the activities, dining room, church service and transportation provided. We would highly recommend Sentinel Pointe to anyone looking to provide their loved one a warm and caring environment while also allowing them the independence to live on their own. Thank you to Sentinel Pointe and everyone who works there!
February 2021
We moved my mother to Sentinel Point in 2018. The facility became her home as much as she resisted settling into her new apartment. The staff and the other residents are open to new people in the community and made her feel welcome and involved. Mom passed away in January and with the loving help of Faith Hospice, the Sentinel nursing staff and everyone at Sentinel Point, her passing was as peaceful as we could have hoped for. It’s a wonderful place, filled with caring and compassionate people. You can’t go wrong having a loved one join the community when it’s necessary.
December 2020
My entire family is very happy with Sentinel Pointe. The facility is updated and beautiful. The staff is nice and very attentive. The outings are appropriate and varied. The events brought into the facility are fun. The safety precautions against COVID followed state guidelines. We were comforted knowing our mom was happy and safe at Sentinel Pointe. I recommend it without hesitation.

When my mom and dad moved into Sentinel Pointe 5 years ago (from Detroit), it was one of the best decisions we've ever made as a family. We had looked at other senior living communities, but could tell there was something special when we visited SPointe. The staff is wonderful and caring, the food is great, extra support is always lovingly available, holiday family parties are yummy and delightful... my parents are very happy here! I don't know what I would do without the kind hearts and souls at Sentinel Pointe.

I have lived happily at Sentinel Pointe for more than a year and a half. Frankly, the decision to move to a retirement community “ any retirement community “ was difficult. I won’t minimize it. My children worried about me after I fell and there no one to help me. I didn’t really agree with them, but I said I’d look at places. After visiting several, I chose Sentinel Pointe and I haven’t looked back! I’m finally retired!! I’m blessed and pampered. I have said that if you get hungry, thirsty or bored at Sentinel Pointe, you work at it! To me, living at Sentinel Pointe is like being on a cruise ship that is always tied up at the dock. Welcome aboard! A big plus for me: Flexible dining hours. I can have breakfast from 8:00 AM “ 2:00 PM. Lunch is any time between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM. At lunch and dinner, we have our choice of more than ten menu items and four seating times for dinner. As another resident says, I don’t think about what to have, I don’t shop for it, I don’t cook it and I don’t clean up. I have a nice apartment, three very good meals every day, my apartment is cleaned once a week and they launder my bed linens. I don’t fold sheets anymore! I enjoy the activities and have made great friends. We also have medical staff on duty around the clock. That’s a comfort to my children. It’s impossible to overstate the excellence of the staff here. They exhibit a characteristic that makes all the difference in the world. They care about us as well as well as caring for us. It’s a subtle and powerful difference. I’m happy here!
March 2019
My parents have lived at Sentinel Pointe since 2014 and have an apartment with a beautiful view of the woods. The other residents and staff are friendly and the staff work hard to solve problems as they arise. The presence of Health Care Associates in the building means that extra help is available when changing health status results in changing needs. Regular activities and concerts are available to those interested. The living and common areas are clean and pleasant. When I reach the stage in life where I want to have an assisted living apartment, Sentinel Pointe will be on my options short list.
March 2019
I am very grateful for the fact that my parents live at Sentinel Pointe. They are happy and comfortable and safe and well cared for. Their home and privacy are always respected--it is their place. If they need support, it's right down the hall. There are always activities going on to meet a variety of interests. The Memory Care group has been a beautiful thing for my dad. He is a part of group discussions, tree trimming, art projects, games, and so much more. Everyone at SP has been a gift to our family. So, so grateful!
March 2019
I have been at Sentinel Pointe for 7 1/2 years. It is AMAZING! The staff is so loving and supportive! It is not just a job to them ,they genuinely love being here and helping /loving the residents. The atmosphere is comfortable and homey. You can FEEL the loving embrace when you enter. I would recommend it highly!
May 2018
The staff here is just great. Very friendly. All the residents treat each other like family. Many of the staff have, or had, family members as residents at Sentinel Pointe. That says a lot.

Our mom resided at Sentinel Pointe for nine months...she recently passed away. Everyone who cared for our mom did so in the most loving manner; especially the past several months when her condition worsened. Sentinel Pointe should be very proud of their community and the entire staff who were always there for us if we had concerns, etc. We would also like to mention the medical staff and aides who were always very caring and friendly to mom. They would make her smile and just brightened up her day. We recommend this facility highly. We were very comforted knowing mom was in such a wonderful community.
April 2017
My father was a resident at Sentinal Pointe for 2 1/2 years. His living there was a really good experience, and the people that work there are great. Over the last year and a half, there have been continual upgrades and improvements to the facility. That was nice to see. The staff is patient and helpful. My Dad spent his first career in the grocery business, and he was usually very pleased with the food. I would always encourage him to try new things (at 89), and when he did, he usually liked the food items he had never had before. Fantastic location, quiet, park like setting. Maybe I will live here someday!
March 2017
Sentinel Pointe is a nice place. They are renovating their hair salon and other areas to keep it updated. Sherry and Tina are super nice and do a wonderful job with the residents. Their food is excellent and their activities program is great.
March 2015
This the THE place to be in the Grand Rapids area for those who seek a fun, entertaining, caring, and pleasant place to live. My 86 year old father (known affectionately as The Sweater Guy because he wears a different color every day) is always up to something. Whether it's a party, dancing, or working in the crafts room, I never know where he's going to be at any given moment! The staff? Extremely caring and respectful of the residents. Each person who lives at Sentinel Pointe is treated with dignity and receives the level of care they require. It's the best kept secret in Grand Rapids!
February 2013
I cannot say enough GREAT things about Sentinel Pointe! My mother moved from her home over a year ago to Sentinel Pointe after a very thorough seach of assisted living./retirement communities. The "feel" of S.P. is welcoming the moment you walk in the door. The staff is friendly, attentive and compassionate. The activities offered are interesting and fun! Mom especially enjoys bingo, casino trips, and the Thursday Social Hour with live entertainment with drinks and great appetizers. Another plus is the good food..Mom was a great cook so well prepared food is a must! Sentinel Pointe is the complete package...If you don't believe me, come see for yourself!
January 2013
If I could rate them higher than EXCELLENT, I would. They deserve it. The facility is lovely: clean, well-run and provides a variety of activities and outings to engage the residents. The apartments are spacious and full of light. The kitchen is well equipped and a comfortable size to work in, but honestly that fact that my grandparents rarely had to use it was a major perk. The dinning room, where Grandma and Grandpa ate two meals every day, offers a unique variety of foods and the staff functions beautifully to meet the dietary and physical needs of the patrons. Although the physical environment is outstanding the single most valuable asset Sentinnel Pointe boasts is their staff. No matter how carefully I craft these next few sentences they will not do justice to the love, compassion, and companionship that these humans have bestowed upon my grandparents. It amazed me right away how warm and welcoming the Girls, as grandma always calls them, were to our entire family. Melinda, the director, is genuine and full of energy. She runs around the place in bright colors and high heels with a smile that is infectious. Her staff respects her, and the residents light up when she stops by to greet them by name and engage in a personal conversation. The staff she has composed is phenomenal. They always treat the residents with the utmost respect and dignity, even though they are faced daily with a variety of undignified circumstances. They handle such situations with grace and compassion and never bat an eye at work that most people would not be able to handle. I often have to stop and say a little prayer of gratitude for these women who have stepped into our lives. We lost Grandpa earlier this year, but before he passed he enjoyed nothing more than giving these caretakers a hard time. He took energy from their playful banter back and forth as they would come in to escort them to meals, help with medications, or other physical necessities. When he passed it took my breath away to see several staff members pay their respects at his funeral with genuine tears in their eyes. These kind of relationships at some facilities could be faked or artificial, but not at the Pointe. The people that work here have hearts that truly understand what it means to care for others. This facility is fantastic, I recommend it whole heartedly.
December 2012
My mother moved to Sentinel Pointe a year ago and she enjoys it very much! My mother is a social person, and they have lots of things for the residents to do. They go shopping, go out to eat, go to the theatre, movies, and the symphony. There are also interesting events to do at Sentinel Pointe throughout the year. The staff that coordinate the social activities are super and know exactly what will be exciting for the residents to do. The members of the entire staff at Sentinel Pointe are not only professional, but also are caring and loving. They really know how to make the residents happy and well looked after. My mother’s apartment is very comfortable, with a great view of the trees, which was important to me. The housekeepers keep everything well looked after in her apartment. Mother lived in another retirement home before Sentinel Pointe and Sentinel Pointe is by far much better. As a daughter of a resident, I feel very good that I have a strong connection with the staff at Sentinel Pointe and I know that each and every one of them knows how to care for senior adults, and they all seem to enjoy their work and each other!
