I would like to commend the staff at Buchanan Meadows for their great care and thoughtfulness in bringing my parents (both in wheelchairs) to our home recently for our 40th anniversary picnic! It was three weeks ago today that Mom passed away. Since then I have thought about how much help Buchanan Meadows and their staff were to me during the last years of Mothers life and believe me, I always, think of them as a God Send. It would have been simply inconceivable for Buchanan Meadows to have thought of or imagined a better plan of care for Mom. She was always clean, comfortable and relaxed when I dropped by to visit her, which I did multiple and random times during the week. I have gone there after work and sat at the dinner table with her, they always offered me a plate. I have gone there during the day and taken her to church, in the building. As a matter of fact, I chose Buchanan Meadows because they offered church during the weekends and my brother, husband as well as myself have attended services with Mom inside Buchanan Meadows. Corporate worship is so important to Mom and our family and to see Buchanan Meadows so thoughtfully plan church into their residents life meant everything to me and truly helped Mom to transition into her new home-life in assisted living, As a side note, I made sure Mom understood she was not in a nursing home, but assisted living which she referred to her new home in Buchanan Meadows as her new Condo. Her rooms were so spacious that I thought Mom was genius to have worked it out as Her Condo. When we first moved Mom in, she had a very old, clawless, nearly blind cat and we just couldnt give Sophie away, but by choosing Buchanan Meadows, giving Sophie away wasnt required. They allowed Mom to keep her, and they helped with kittys care by giving her food and water when Mom didnt. Sophie lived with Mom at Buchanan Meadows for nearly two years and when she got sick, they called me to take her to the vet. Sadly, Kitty didnt come back home and when she no longer needed her litter box or bowls or treats, I removed or donated her things. Once they were gone, I thought I should wipe up the floor which wasnt required of me, but I did anyway and boy was I glad I did. I took antimicrobial wipes, wiped the floor and found NOTHING. Im not kidding, there was nothing at all on that bathroom floor to be wiped up and thats what I discovered after wiping every square inch...NOTHING! Thats how clean I found Buchanan Meadows to be. One further thing I would like to mention, location. After looking all over the cities of South Bend and Granger, Indiana I just didnt feel any real connection with any of the wonderful homes that I visited. Then, at about the end of my rope, I was told of Buchanan Meadows. Im beyond thankful that someone took the time to give me that information, which is my motivation for writing this review. If you are reading this right now and thinking about placing your beloved mother out of her home and into someplace foreign to her, believe me I know how gut wrenchingly hard that decision is. Mom was 95 when I moved her and only did so because my Son had received a devastating diagnosis which Ill not talk about other then to say, there was and is only one of me, so I had to place Mom. Because I was a healthcare worker I believed if anyone could keep her mother in her home, I could-did. Sadly it came to the point that I couldnt and thats why I was so personally relieved to have found Buchanan Meadows. Two things struck me at first, its location is easy to find and two, I felt they were able to employ neighbors who could walk to work because they are located in a park like setting in the middle of a neighborhood. I was right about both things. I come from the south side of South Bend, IN I take the 20 bypass north, get off at exit 3 and turn left onto 12. When I come to the first stoplight I turn right, stay on that road until I drive over the railroad tracks, then I turn right onto Carrol St. That street dead ends into the Buchanan Meadows parking lot. It is a 20 minute drive from my house, to Buchanan Meadows and I say that so folks from my part of the world can know where this gem of a home is located. Sincerely, Kathy Carr

I am a previous employee of Buchanan Meadows. While working there i enjoyed the closeness of the staff. It was a very family orientated place to work. The Executive Director K. Baker made sure all needs were met for staff, family, and especially the residents. I hated leaving my position but i left to pursue employment in a different field of my career choice. I appreciate the opportunity to work there and was would be welcomed back if i were to chooser to return.

I know how important reviews can be, and I wanted to make sure I left a note that..God could not have blessed us with more loving arms, or better care, than Buchanan Meadows gave my Grandfather, over the several years he shared with them. He was previously in the care of a larger, busier facility.. and the day we moved him to Meadows, he was giddy, and the sparkle in his eye had flooded back in. There was more lets try!, and less you cant. He was smiling again.. his face held hope again.. the ladies that met us at the door.. they knew him, and were happy to see him. He felt like a valuable, dignified person again. The years he spent at Buchanan Meadows, he was happy. He smiled, he laughed, the staff knew his name, his stories, shared memories with him... I believe with my whe heart that truly loved and cared about him. On days that I would call to video chat with him and his grandbabies.. he would share laughs and smiles with Heather, or anyone helping us.. and I know he knew he was valued. They would remind him of sweet memories with his children and his wife.. and encourage and comfort him on harder days. As days went on, and as his care became more intense.. that never changed. Where we live, there is several hours difference.. and they would take my calls early and late into the night, to see and visit with him over the phone. Their number one priority was always their residents.. When he needed help, they were there to clean and assist him immediately.. and when he was tired, they didnt push him for a phone calls sake.. it was always about his comfort and what he needed. Ill forever be thankful for that. And.. on his last days, when his family was too far away, without being asked to, they sat by his bed and shared beautiful memories and words with him while he slept. The only thing that ever made saying goodbye any easier, was knowing he was held with such love and care. Each resident we visited with always seemed so happy, so comfortable.. and like they felt that they were still truly cared about and important. Im not great with words, but im trying.. I just cant truly express how wonderful this staff is.. and what a blessing they have been to our family. These past years, and beautiful memories that my babies and I share with their great grandpa.. I owe all to them. Thank you, and big BIG hugs.

Last year, we visited four different assisted living facilities in our area. We decided on Buchanan Meadows and it has turned out to be an excellent decision.The care our loved one has received has been exceptional. She often tells us how happy she is living there, that everyone of the staff is so kind, and that they treat her like a queen. I have also found the staff easy to communicate with and willing to answer any questions that may arise. I would definitely recommend Buchanan Meadows to anyone looking for quality care and living conditions for a loved one.

I definitely agree with other reviewers who laud the facility and staff—especially the staff. They are some of the most compassionate and hardworking care providers that Ive met. I wish there could be more of them.The facility has a charming and warm environment which I think helps the clients feel more comfortable and safe. There is an indoor aviary, a lovely patio area, a grand piano—even a salon-barbershop. These details make the difference.

I loved walking in there and being able to see one of my friends from church!! Even in his old age he loves doing dress up and looked at the wonderful birds that are there! Also, the workers are outstanding! Would definitely recommend!!

Buchanan Meadows hominess feel is just what is missing in so many other assisted living facilities. As soon as you walk in you feel like you're right at home. The staff is always helpful and friendly and everything is clean and fresh smelling. The food at the Meadows is amazing and home cooked. They do their best to accommodate even the pickiest of eaters. The activities are age appropriate and actually things that residents enjoy. Of all the things that I could say about Buchanan Meadows I feel the one that matters the most is the staff truly loves and cares for their residents. They always do their best to care and protect them.

Ive volunteered at Buchanan Meadows through Girl Scouts in the past and it was a very great experience. The staff was very nice and helpful. It was clear they cared very much for the well being and happiness of the residents. We Girl Scouts were very happy to be able to come and sing for and interact with the residents.
