I was so very impressed with my tour of Downriver Estates. All the staff like each other and playful banter fills the halls creating a positive atmosphere! The Executive Director Jake, is very hands on. He impressed me as the type of leader who empowers his employees. It shows in the low turn over rate in staff. One woman has been there 18 years! Also the head of the Memory Care dementia social development is VERY experienced person on how to motivate and guide people with dementia. She’s passionate about what she does. God bless you all for your dedication to people in the last years of their lives. The main reason we are not going with them is distance. It would take us almost a half hour to drive there. I wish they were closer. UPDATE: In February we moved my Dad there and have been very happy.

My Dad has lived here since October, 2024. The staff and caretakers are so nice and helpful! My Dad says " they never have a bad day" ! I'm so thankful we found Downriver Estates , he is happy here and that gives me peace of mind! He says the food is great, too!

I see some poor reviews from years ago. My mother has been a resident for 6 months and she loves it. She/we have not had 1 single complaint. All of the aides are very nice to us and her. The ladies in physical therapy are great, very nice and patient with her. She enjoys the food and the nightly games they play after dinner. I would recommend the facility to anyone looking into a assisted living facility.

Downriver Estates makes you feel like you belong. From their leadership team to their line staff, they are professional, transparent, and it is obvious they really care about doing the right thing. When issues do arise, they are prompt in finding a resolution. Communication is top notch, as well. If you are looking for a place for yourself or a loved one, you will feel so comfortable, well cared for, and at home here. 10/10 HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Five star review. The staff at Downriver Estates has been amazing. My mom, Betty Blue has been there 7 months and I can’t Thank you enough. Not only for my mom but also how kind they have been to us as we deal with her having dementia. I have to especially thank the memory care unit. Penny and her staff have been outstanding. From Penny’s example the staff provide such a caring environment. The residents know Penny and her staff care about them. When we come to visit we always feel welcomed. I can’t think of a harder job. Thank you so much. I know God will bless you because you have been such a blessing to others and us.

I'm a hospice Chaplain. I went to Elmcroft of downriver for a visit. They have a strict Covid-19 entrance protocol to protect their residents. The facility is very clean, the staff friendly and helpful.
July 2021
My grandmother was in assisted living until the difficult decision was made to transfer her into the memory care. Just like in so many other aspects of life this place has its ups and downs, but we could not ask for more caring and loving people to be taking care of our grandma. The workers in the memory care have such patience and understanding when it comes to their residents. Every time we would go and visit gram the staff was extremely nice and personable and made as feel welcome. The facility was clean and the residents seemed well care for. I cannot thank Penny enough for getting to know my gram and helping to make the transition to memory care as easy for her as possible. The staff allowed us to have their personal phone numbers so we could contact them and ask them about grams, and we were even able to FaceTime with her during Covid! Every little bit helps, especially when it is so difficult for everyone during the pandemic! The smile on grams face when we would FaceTime just to say hello melted our hearts.

My dad has been in Elmcroft since January of 2020. The care he has received from the Memory Care unit has been outstanding. Penny who is the Director of that unit has treated my dad like her own!! I can contact her anytime day or nite with any concerns and she takes care of them ASAP. I have recommended this place to my friends for their parents and loved ones too. I was updated daily during Covid and did video chats as often as I would like to. Penny showed my dad lots of love and care as we would , if we were there . I’m so grateful to her and the staff for their care of my dad!! It really makes a difference to him, and he loves Penny. He lights up when she’s around. I love Elmcroft and am truly grateful!

Our mother was first staying in assistant living and we realized that the assistant living wasn’t enough for her so she was put in memory care. Although it was hard to do this we knew it was the best for our mom. If it had not been for Penny and her staff I don’t think we could’ve endured her being there. Penny treats the patients as if they’re her own parents. When Covid struck it was hard not to be able go in and see our mom but Penny made every effort for us to see her either through the window or FaceTime using her own phone. We will forever be grateful that our mom was treated just as well as if she were at home.

My husband was transferred to the memory care unit about one week after he arrived at Elmcroft. It was not under the best of circumstances as family was not able to visit because of Covid. When visiting was allowed I found the memory unit to be in the furthest part of the building. The first time I was able to visit my husband he did not want to get out of bed so the aide allowed me to go to his room. He seemed okay but none of the pictures from home were on the walls; his television was not working. He was not wearing his own clothes. I complained about this to Penny, the manager of memory care, and she told me I was not allowed to be in his room. This should have alerted me to problems. Later an aide sent him to the hospital without calling me first. He had a DNR order in place. I had the hospital send him back to Elmcroft enrolled in hospice. I then was allowed in his room . I will say that they brought me snacks, drinks, and food. They made me very comfortable. My husband died within 24 hours. What made me upset was he died in a dingy t-shirt that was not his instead of the nice clean clothing I initially brought for him. I was told in the beginning that everything my husband brought in had to have his name on it. This included his towels, sheets, clothing, pictures, etc. After he had passed I asked fort his sheets and towels , along with the pictures. I got the pictures back but they could not find his towels or sheets. The other thing that bothered me is all they did with the residents in this unit was sit them in a circle in front of a television and there they sat except for meals. One resident who had dementia came into my husbands room screaming and trying to get him out of his bed so she could lie down. When I gently tried to tell her she was in the wrong room but I would help her find it she slapped me. This woman should never had been able to get that far into his room. The owner, managers and all others were very nice and helpful. Until they get more help and re-vamp the memory unit I would not recommend coming here. The assisted living part was excellent.

It’s tough admitting that you need help with your loved ones. Especially when, because of Covid 19, there Is no visitation. My Aunt (like a mom) went into Elmcroft a year ago. There have been a few issues but, for the most part, I feel like she’s in a safe caring place. It’s been a tough year for everyone and I admire the Staff who have put their own health on the line. Thank you -

Elmcroft was a godsend when we had to abruptly move mom from independent living to assisted living in just a couple days. The staff has always been accommodating, kind and very professional, especially in these very difficult times. I thank them for taking care of mom during the strenuous times and would recommend Elmcroft to anyone who has to make the difficult decision to place their loved one in someone else's care.

Both parents arrived a year ago, just before Covid. Jake, Kim, and the rest of the staff have been nothing short of fantastic! We are so grateful to the whole team. They really do care about their residents. Thank-You Elmcroft Team!
August 2020
Elmcroft has done an exceptional job during this very challenging time of Covid! They have shown compassion and understanding to help residents and families manage the guidelines they are working under. The staff has also gone above and beyond to share helpful information with us. Our family members feel well cared for and respected. We appreciate how hard the staff works to know the residents and care for them with dignity and respect.

My Mom has lived at Elmcroft since June 29, 2019. When she moved into her studio apartment, I was worried that she wouldn’t adjust, but she soon was busy playing bingo, chair exercising, enjoying popcorn and movies, participating in Monday manicures, listening to live mini concerts, and sharing meals in the airy dining room with other residents. Her weekly appointment at the on-site beauty salon kept her feeling pretty. While visiting her, I was given the bum’s rush more than once, because she had something to do. Keeping track of time is not easy for Mom, but the staff is great about reminding her when things are about to happen. She still was able to go out with family to do the things she enjoyed, riding in the country, ice cream, and coney dogs. Covid-19 and the resulting isolation has been tough for everyone. Elmcroft staff has been creative at keeping Mom safe while still attending to her needs. She may not be out and about doing activities, but staff comes to her to bring her medicine, meals, keep her talking, do a bit of exercise or manicure her nails. My visits from outside are always facilitated so that Mom can be near the window to hear me. The Mother’s Day car parade was a hit allowing her grandchildren and great grandchildren to get to blow kisses and wave to her and many other residents. Her life’s journey is getting more difficult daily as she approaches age 92. Her short term memory is fading and she needs more help and guidance. I need to stress that the staff is in tune with her and treats her with dignity and kindness. When I have a concern or question, Jake and his staff are always available and they take questions seriously no matter how small the concern may be.

Almost 7 years ago I walked into Elmcroft of Downriver seeking a place for my dad who was suffering from a multitude of health challenges. Our family, in very short order learned that Elmcroft was the finest assisted living facility downriver. Our initial reaction and decision-making process was based on the cleanliness of Elmcroft. The staff is always responsive, caring and compassionate. The care my dad has received has allowed him to thrive as he nears 89! We are thankful that he is still here, and Elmcroft has played a huge role! The stress of having a family member ln assisted living during Covid is immeasurable, however the stress has been minimized by the precautions and communication process at Elmcroft. Choose wisely, thank you Elmcroft of Downriver!

We really enjoy Elmcroft. The employees are like family and take excellent care of the residents. For Mother's Day they planned a parade around the grounds where we were able to drive by with decorated signs and see our loved ones. With Covid it's been such a scary time but knowing Elmcroft goes above and beyond we felt our family was safe and it was such a joy to celebrate Mother's Day there. So many staff members were there that weren't even working just to show how much they truly care about everyone that lives there. The care is great, the meals are amazing and it's a wonderful family atmosphere. I couldn't be happier

My mother-in-law moved in here about a year ago. She has nothing to say but fabulous things about the staff, service and food.
August 2019
September 2018
Management is disconnected from what really happens here - and caregivers are understaffed and overworked. We moved my Mom here because we were told they could provide a higher level of care than another local assisted living facility. We were also told that Mom would be fine unless she had a feeding tube or ventilator, but that wasn't true, at all. Mom needed a higher level of care than Elmcroft could provide, and instead of admitting that, they kept promising they could handle it. Don't even consider this place if you have a parent that needs more than room and board and you aren't able to check on them every day. The only reason I'm giving them 2 stars is because most of the caregivers really did care.

Very clean and loving community. All the staff truly care for each resident. There are plenty of activities for the residents can do. The staff are always happy to help with anything that is needed.

Great community - best Downriver! The only licensed assisted living that specializes in memory care. They help with dressing, bathing, medication management and provide all meals. It is a secured community to keep your loved one safe. And they accept pets!!! I highly recommend it.
