My father was a patient on 2 North while he recovered from a surgery. My father is not an easy patient, however, he had a wonderful experience at Hebrew Home of Greater Washington! The care he received from the entire team was outstanding. From the clinical team to the dining and housekeeping team - each treated my father with respect and developed a relationship with him while he was there. I will not hesitate to recommend Hebrew Home and I am happy to share this five star review! Thank you team.

My uncle has been at the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington since November 2026, and we are displeased with the level of care he is receiving. A few specific issues: * He is supposed to receive "rehabilitation" (physical therapy) every weekday. As best we can tell, and from what he reports, it rarely happens. We're going to look into billings to see if they're charging for services not rendered. * We get the runaround whenever we ask about his care. For example, when I ask about him getting "rehabilitation" services I get different responses from different people at different times. Most recently I was told by the charge nurse that it's not her domain so she doesn't know anything about it, that I could talk to the people in that department if I see them, but she doesn't know how I can contact them. She doesn't know a phone number and she doesn't know if they have email. * His prescription glasses have been missing for the past two weeks. The empty case is still in his room. No one on staff knows anything about this. I was told that they don't touch his glasses, only he touches his glasses, they're not even allowed to touch his glasses at all. He's bedridden, so I'm not sure how they could've left the room if only he touched them. * He is never dressed. Every time we visit, no matter what time of day, no matter what day of the week, he is wearing just an undershirt and a diaper. We've bought all new clothes for him, so he has pants, shorts, sweatpants, and sweat-shorts all hanging in his closet. They've gone untouched. * Staff isn't taking him to the bathroom. He has two urinals hanging from his bed. These spill, so the room always smells of urine. Yesterday was the worst it has been. It appears he had to empty a urinal into the trash can next to his bed. *Whenever I suggest contacting staff (to help him to the bathroom, to empty a urinal, to help him make a phone call, to help him turn on or off the TV, etc.) he is very opposed to doing so. He implores me to NOT bother them. He genuinely looks scared. Why I gave 2 stars, not 1... on the positive side: * He gets a fresh cup of water every day. Staff writes the date on the cup each day. * Staff changes the lidocaine patches on his knees each day. They write the date on these too. In summary: We do NOT recommend the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington.

Where do I even begin... The level of care we've experienced has been deeply disappointing. Nurses frequently sit in the hallways on their phones or chart for long periods, yet little to nothing appears in the patient portal. Calls to the nursing station often go unanswered--even when messages are left. Patients are told to stay in bed due to fall risk, but then made to wait extended periods for assistance to the bathroom. When help doesn't arrive in time, they're then chastised for accidents. That is not care--that's neglect. Communication is vague and frustrating. "We can call the doctor" seems to be a standard response, but that doesn't mean a call is actually made. Doctors stop by infrequently and provide minimal updates. Meanwhile, families are left in the dark. Overall there is a troubling lack of urgency or accountability. Discharge has been unnecessarily difficult to coordinate. Physical therapy itself has been a bright spot, but it's limited to about an hour a day, which doesn't justify the broader experience. If you have a loved one here, be prepared to advocate for them daily. Ask questions, follow up constantly, and don't assume things are being handled behind the scenes. This has not been the level of care we expected or were led to believe we would receive. Once the Director was made aware of some of the issues, he was quick to step in. Guess I should have gone to him from the start!

I was a rehab patient several times in Hebrew Home. Staff, by and large was excellent. Five Stars From Me! Room spacious pt and OT staff were the best. Hebrew Home has a reputation for great pt and OT. Alyssa Parness OT. Was excellent, and very patient.. food was very good, too.

My mother recently began her rehabilitation at Hebrew Home of Greater Washington, and I have been genuinely impressed with the care she is receiving. The physical and occupational therapy teams are exceptional, patient, attentive, and deeply invested in helping their patients make real progress. The nursing staff show sincere compassion and take the time to ensure comfort and dignity, while the administrative staff are organized, communicative, and professional, which has made the entire process smoother for our family. I have noticed that many rehabilitation facilities send review requests for routine visits or short stays, which can make their online ratings look higher than the actual quality of care provided. A lot of these reviews focus on superficial details. If you want to understand how a facility truly performs, look at their state inspection reports and quality metrics. Hebrew Home of Greater Washington consistently scores well on both, which reflects the strong leadership, dedicated staff, and genuine commitment to patient recovery that I have seen firsthand. Overall really warm and helpful stuff. My only negative experience was with Andrea Roberson, a cold and unhelplful employee - surprising for someone who works in social services. Other than Andrea, a kind and caring team. I visit often and have appreciated the events, PT, and nursing team - along with the always friendly front desk.

My mother resided in the nursing care area (Smith-Kogod) of the Hebrew Home for four years. When she was first sent there after a hospital visit, I was told by the hospital that she would need to go on hospice. After a few days at the Hebrew Home, it was determined it was no longer necessary. The nurses and staff did an excellent job of caring for her”keeping her in the best health possible, until she recently passed of natural causes at age 94. While it is no one’s idea of a good place to be, if you or a loved one needs a nursing home, I would highly recommend the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington.

The staff is wonderful. Although my father has dementia they treat him with dignity and keep him well. I get calls regularly about any changes in his health down to a simple bruise. They are very good at keeping family informed about loved ones. If I had any critique it would be how they do the residents laundry. Clothes do not seem to last as they get faded and worn. Perhaps a bit too much bleach. But I know he is in good care and when we visit it never smells like a nursing home. In other words they make sure all residents hygiene needs are maintained. Thank you to all of you for doing a job that may go unappreciated. I appreciate all of you

My grandmother stayed here after getting her leg surgery and her stay was very nice and accommodating! The staff was very friendly and super nice to her! She's vegetarian and although most of the options had meat, the staff was very understanding and gave her some vegetarian options to choose from! My grandmother doesn't speak English fluently, so I was a little worried about the language barrier between her and the workers, but the staff was still very sweet and friendly towards her and she really loved interacting with each of the workers! My grandmother was very comfortable during her stay and I would recommend this place to others!

My close friend was at the Hebrew Home several times her rehab. We found the staff to be outstanding as well as the rehab care. The facility was very clean and well-maintained and the staff very caring.

Our mother has been living at the Hebrew Home for over one year and we are very happy with the care. The wonderful floor staff have gotten to know her well and care for her bodily better than a family member could. The excellent PT staff on the first floor notice when she needs therapy and provide it. Even the dining room staff know her favorite juice and foods. The excellent activities staff have so many events and classes that keep the residents out of their rooms and active whether it's painting, singing with musicians, or playing bingo.

My elderly Mom has experienced rehab here several times after falling and breaking bones. The rehab staff successfully got her back with full range of motion more than once. Now she has been living in the long term care nursing home unit for a few years. The room is small but she doesn't have to share it, which is much better than many other facilities. The staff has a lot on their plate, especially on weekends when families tend to visit, but they do an excellent job. I live nearby and visit often during the week, everyone from the front desk in the lobby to the nurses station on my Mom's floor, to the administration, knows who I am. Communication helps the care my Mom receives, which is excellent. We have regular conferences to discuss her care. She now has severe memory issues so I rely on the Staff to let me know what is going on when I cannot be there. Every day she feels well enough is filled with activities - bingo, music, comedians either live or on video, ice cream socials, trivia, movies, they offer things all day every day. And the dining hall is at the end of the hall, if she feels unwell the option to eat in her room or choose a sandwich if the meal option is not wanted, exists. I've found the care to be trustworthy and competent.

My aunt was transferred from the hospital to Hebrew Home of Greater Washington. It took a little adjustment. As in any place, some of the staff are outstanding while others could be improved. Overall, she was treated well. THANK YOU!

These guys have been amazing in my life in more than one way. My uncle who was over 100 was nurtured and cared for while there and currently my Aunt is a resident whose life has made a complete turn around after moving there from a really hard situation! I’m so so grateful for this place it’s amazing!

Beware of MICE!!!! I watched a mouse scamper into my grandpa’s room. After informing the nurse about it, she actually laughed at me. What? I asked if we could have a trap in the room, to which she motioned at the glue trap meant for ants and shrugged. Nurses are often not responsive. I’m giving this place two stars since some of front desk staff and other nurses have been great.

My mother had fallen and broke her arm. She also had an infection on one of her feet. She was transferred from Suburban to Hebrew Home 3rd floor. Since she had a broken arm she needed help getting out of the bed to get to the bathroom. After a very long time someone did show up. When she complained that she needed help getting to the bathroom the staff told her that’s why we put you in a diaper . They basically told her to go to the bathroom in her clothing. After a week she developed a bed sore on her back and a sore on the bottom of her foot. These should have never have happened if she had been getting proper care. Physical therapy was great , two of the nurses on her floor were good. The rest is why I gave 2 stars.

The staff are not so friendly and worse of all a lousy nurse called Juanita. She talks too much and does not relate professionally towards the discharge of her duties. She speaks so loud that all the client’s information is shared without any HIPPA concerns. Imagine her giving medication and saying it out that people can hear her from the hallway. She needs to be more professional and maintain client’s confidentiality.

My mom is a resident and nurses taking care of her are excellent! There are care plan meetings for residents and their families and on several occasions I registered for them on line and no one called me which is very frustrating because my mom’s health is very important to me. The last meeting was scheduled for 2/6/24, nobody called me that day and when I called to find out what happened I was promised a phone call the next day. So now 2 days later and still no call.

My mother was in an AL facility that did not have a memory care unit. When she became exit-seeking we started looking at LTC facilities and visited Hebrew Home (HH) along with a number of other places in the DC area that accepted Medicaid. HH met all our criteria for Mom: safe, clean, professional staff, lots of activities, and a willingness to tailor their services to Mom's needs. Mom applied, was accepted and had a bed ready for her in less than 30 days which gave us great comfort. We ultimately ended up accepting a bed for Mom in NYC near other family members and the Admission Director could not have been nicer and more supportive of our needs, concerns and final decisions throughout the entire process. We really appreciated it and have nothing but good things to say about our interactions with the HH team.

I cannot say enough good things about the care my mother has received at the Hebrew Home! My family needed help and reassurance about moving Mom into a nursing home facility and the staff at the Hebrew Home has been there for us every step of the way. Mom is settled and very happy. She keeps busy with bingo and wonderful activities and is exhausted (in a good way) at the end of every day. My favorite night was when we traveled to Greece together and enjoyed a delicious Greek dinner with several of her new found friends. Daily life for Mom includes caregivers that care, satisfying meals, and a safe environment. As a family we are all at ease and overwhelmingly pleased with the choice we have made in trusting Mom’s care to the Hebrew Home.

The OT and PT were outstanding. The nursing care was sufficient, although there was a noticeable decrease in quality and quantity on the weekends. On the plus side, the plain rooms were singles,.not doubles.

I spent a week at the Hebrew Home for rehabilitation after surgery. The nursing care on the rehab floor was responsive and prompt. There were limitations because a case of Covid had manifested in the facility. As a result, meals were served in the rooms and there were no group activities. Because I needed so little physical therapy, I opted to return home after a week's stay. I give the facility, overall, five stars.

Overall the people are wonderful at this facility. What I dont understand is their incidents of Urinary Tract Infections in their patients. My loved one got 2 devastating utis upon entry and Ive heard of others getting them there. Not sure what is going on with that but it should really be looked into.

My mother has rehabbed at the Hebrew Home twice once in 2018 after heart failure and currently in 2022 after a back injury. The PT/OT and nursing care are caring and professional. The 24 hour physicians are responsive, competent in complex medical management and available. The physical plant is clean and the meals well prepared. The visiting policies are vigilant yet flexible. A nursing home is never an easy choice, but you can feel confident that the Hebrew Home will work with you to give your family the best care possible. A big thank you to all the staff.

My Father fell and broke his hip and he needed extensive rehab immediately from the hospital after having a major surgery. Brenda Rice, the VP of Operations suggested that my Dad receive the rehab at the Hebrew Home because she was confident that Dad will thrive in the community. I called the Admissions Team led by Jennifer Bunting who made sure that my Dad would be in great hands. She put me at eased. Then I spoke to the Executive Director, Le'Shawn Bailey as well as the Director of Nursing, Olivia Kitcher-Yamikeh. We communicated through email and they assured me that Dad is going to be well taken care of. After, I spoke to the Director of Rehab, Anand Balasubramanian, who informed his team to make sure that my Dad receives the best rehab both OT and PT during his stay at the Hebrew Home in the Wasserman Community. Let me not forget the Physician group led by Dr. Gil. She made sure that her team visited my dad regularly and to answer any questions my family may have had. I am happy to say that My Dad is going home tomorrow! Thank you to the wonderful Rehab team and my family and I appreciate each one of you. I can't forget the most important team members who day in and day out made sure that my dad had the best care and services provided who are the GNAs/CNAs, LPN, and RN Nurses. There are too many names to mention but Thank you! Also, to our housekeeping team on making sure the room was cleaned, sanitized, and disinfected from any bacteria, germs, and viruses especially the COVID=19. To Summarize the experience that my Father and my family had, I am glad that we chose the Hebrew Home. They did what they said they were going to do. Action speaks louder than words and my family and I observed those actions through and through. Thank you Leadership team for all of your help and assistance.
