Every single person that I came into contact with at Somerford was a pleasure to deal with. Everyone was so kind and treated my father-in-law (and us) with respect and dignity. They were quick to respond to any questions and addressed all concerns immediately. There was never a time when we didnt think that he was getting the best possible care from Somerford. We would highly recommend placing a loved one in their care.

Somerford is an amazing place. They have taken such great care of my Mom. The nurses are so personal. They know exactly what your loved one has been doing and are happy to keep you updated and informed. Transitioning to assisted living is a very difficult thing for everyone. Pete McMillan made the admission process as easy as possible. Nurses Marilyn and Elizabeth( most caring people I have ever met) as well as the rest of the staff put me at ease knowing they would take great care of my Mom. Highly recommend this for anyone looking for a loved one.

I would like to say how grateful we are that Somerford has the care and love for my Grandfather! We went to visit him and he couldnt hear us, Sharon went above and beyond on her day off and assisted us. It brings great comfort to know he is well cared for. Thank you!!

Thank you so much Pete, Sharon, Kathy, Cynthia, Tracy, BJ, Savanna and all the wonderful staff and nurses I have forgotten to mention at Somerford. Especially, during this difficult time with the COVID shut down, you have been wonderful helping us keep connected with our parents, and, trying to make special occasions possible with window and outside Sunshine visits. It means so much, especially during a time when we are trying to keep them safe, that the nurses have been able to work with the doctors for telehealth appointment visits. During this worrisome time, it has been a relief to know that I can count on you to watch out for our parents and take care of them while also keeping them safe!

I was impressed with Somerford Place when I was looking at facilities for my father who has Alzheimers. The most important thing I liked about Somerford Place was they have a seperate building for dementia, alzheimers residents. In my experience, when they are mixed in with asssited living residents they tend to get lost in the shuffle. Here they get the attention they need. The staff is very knowledgable and courteous. They have beautiful outdoor areas the residents can use as well as plenty of walking space for residents that like to walk. This was the best decision I made for my father. Yes, it is a little pricey but I feel that the extra money you pay vs. a standard assisted living facility is well worth it. I know my father is getting the care and attention that he needs. My dad is very happy and that makes me happy.

Somerford House is the top of the line in assisted living facilities! I highly recommend it to those searching for a facility that extends the highest quality of care to their residents in a professional yet personal manner. The staff at Somerford House not only treat each other like family, but all of the residents and their families and friends as family too! I have been blessed with the extra special professional care they extend to my mother and she is very happy and content staying under their care. They provide many various activities such as daily exercise classes, music therapy, bingo, cornhole, bowling and other various games, movie matinees, and various thought provoking and mentally challenging activities to keep their minds alert without stressing on each and every day that the residents look forward to. They also provide daily entertainment from performing artists in the tri-state area such as singing artists and groups, magicians, animal shows, and guest speakers to demonstrations and resident participation in pottery and various crafts. They transport the residents that desire to go on weekly excursions out in the community such as countryside tour drives, shopping trips, dinners in community restaurants and various other well planned trips. The nursing staff and caretakers do everything they possibly can to meet my mothers needs whatever they may be and always do so in a pleasant and pleasing manner. The expert therapy team exceeded my expectations and they have my mother gaining her strength back rapidly due to their professionalism and encouragement to my mother. The gourmet food is delicious, well prepared and served in an elegant dining room. It is a well maintained, groomed facility that is exceptionally clean. The entire staff at Somerford House go out of their way to accommodate the residents desires and wishes. I am so thankful for my mother being cared for at the Somerford House because I can trust and be assured that she is well taken care of. Somerford House is the Home away from Home that you are looking for your family member and if you choose Somerford House & Place, you will not be disappointed!

Im delighted to be able to share my thoughts about my stay at Somerford. Before I came, my husband was my caregiver and our daughters saw the need for more care and found Somerford for us. The staff and caregivers made me comfortable in my new home. Once settled, I started to enjoy the daily routines of exercise and therapy. Other days, we would enjoy bingo, bowling, educational movies and word games. Dont forget the good ice cream socials. HA! Good times were spent with residents each day either at activities or just visiting together. Somerford was good for me and I would recommend it.

I highly recommend this facility for any patient that is suffering with dementia and or Alzheimers and can no longer live alone. I work for a home health agency in the area (LHC-Group HOMECALL) and can honestly say that this place is compassionate, caring, and treats the residence like their own family. Each person is given the respect they deserve and the facilities at both house and place is kept clean, and is a wonderful living environment. The staff puts their heart and soul into everything they do on a daily basis and the residents are kept busy doing activities and given the love they deserve. They are also provided with in-house physical therapy and occupational therapy if needed. I personally would send a loved one to this facility absolutely! Warm Regards, Robin Langlois, Account Executive for HOMECALL.

I recently visited Somerford again and was reminded how clean and beautiful the campus can be. My grandmother and my wifes grandmother and grandfather all have extended stays. Today I was greeted by happy residents who were gathered for the morning exercises. The place looks as good as it did the first time I saw it...and that was 15 years ago. I was offered a drink multiple times and the staff was very courteous.

Somerford House & Place is beautiful, inside and out. Most amazing is the staff. Everyone here is so pleasant and helpful - they make you feel at home. Just walking through the facility - you can tell the employees are truly engaged with the residents. My grandmother was a resident at Somerford earlier this year. I was so impressed with this community. The staff were so caring. I felt like they were apart of my family. I know this is a little late in coming, thank you for loving my grandmother and taking such great care of her.

My Dad lived at Somerford Place for 10 months until his passing on July 11, 2017. We will be forever grateful for the loving care & support shown him by all of the staff during his stay. I highly recommend this facility. I like that they have 2 houses-- one for residents with dementia and one for residents who do not. I was so impressed (and overwhelmed) with how great the staff were in how they communicated and dealtmy Dad and all the dementia residents--respectfully and with kindness. They were quick to deal with any health issues that came up for my Dad, and I felt they always went the extra mile for him. My Dad was safe and well taken care of. It is obvious that the staff love what they do by their positive attitudes and how wonderfully they treat the residents. They keep the place very clean and in great shape; and the food is very good.Below is the beginning of our experience with Somerford:As my Dads Alzheimers Disease was getting worse making it too challenging for my step mother and I to take care of him in their home, we knew it was time for him to go into a facility for his own safety and my step mothers health. This is an extremely hard and gut wrenching thing to have to do for a loved one. We probably waited about a month longer than we should have thinking things would get better with new medications. When we finally gave in to reality, I called Somerford because so many people told me it was definitely the best assisted living facility in Hagerstown - they told me about the positive experiences they had with loved ones who were placed there. My first contact was with Sheri Evans who invited me in for a tour right away. She was so compassionate and understanding of our situation and empathized with what we were going through. After the tour of the beautiful facility and meeting Nurse Shirley and Director Mark Gipe, I was sold. Sheri knew time was of the essence for my Dad to move in, so she helped me through the paperwork and the other steps for admission approval- she made it very easy.We had to tell my Dad that he was going to Somerford for a medical review for another purpose to get him to go. It was so sad having to deceive Dad and leave him there that day. Nurse Shirley told me they strongly recommended that we not come to visit him for 2 weeks so he could get used to his new home-- especially after we told them Dad was not going to be happy at all leaving his home to live there. They told me that if we came back too soon he would beg to come home, which I believed 100% of my Dad. I cried on the way out wondering what he would think that we didnt come see him for 2 weeks, but knew we needed to take the advice of these professionals. After rebelling a little on the first day, a miracle happened (as far as we were concerned). He began making friends with other men there (they have their own table at dinner), and settled in the 2nd day and never asked when he could come home. The reason is that the staff at Somerford know how to respectfully work and communicate with folks with Alzheimers- they have training and experience in this area. My Dad no longer had to feel embarrassed about his condition; he wasnt treated like a child; he was no longer kept out ofconversations; and the staff knew how to effectively communicate with him. When we did come to visit for the first time 2 weeks later, he was very happy to see us and wanted to show us his room (that I had decorated prior to his arrival). He didnt ask if he could leave with us and it was obvious he was very happy. I couldnt believe it !! But that is the difference Somerford has made in my Dads life and ours. They keep him engaged in activities, and we witness almost everyday how well he is taken care of. They have an RN there 24, 7 which is not typical for assisted living facilities.Thank you Somerford for making an extremely difficult situation for us turn out so well for my Dad. It is such a relief for us to know he is living out his life in a happy way there at Somerford Place.Susan Wood

Last evening Somerford house hosted a lovely art show...Students from the Barbara Ingrahm School of Art and Eric Carter displayed some of their work for all to enjoy. Several residents also displayed their ceramic, water color and feather paintings. All around the first floor were various stops so that art appreciators could wander at their leisure and admire the exhibits. Artists from the school as well as Eric Carter were available to discuss their work. And, as if this wasnt lovely enough, champagne and appetizers were offered to everyone! What a festive evening! THANK YOU!
