My mother lived at Harmony Hall for 21 years. She had medical conditions that made it unsafe for her to live alone, but she didnt want to live with her children. She started in independent living and really thrived there. She was relieved of the burden of managing her prescription drugs, and cooking meals,two tasks that she really needed help with. She took advantage of the outings and activities offered by Harmony Hall. Over the years her health declined. After a stroke left her severely impaired, she moved to a higher level of care. Through the years, Harmony Hall constantly assessed her current needs and made adjustments to her care as needed. The staff was a fabulous partner with me to provide the best quality of life we could achieve. My mom was not always easy to care for, but the folks at Harmony Hall worked very hard to find ways to improve her life as she aged and her needs and capabilities changed. The facility is very clean and well maintained. They refurbish the well used common areas regularly to keep them fresh and in good repair. They have areas our family used to hold gatherings so we could include Mom, even after her health prevented her from going out to events. Every staff member greets residents by name; a skill that I am a little jealous of, and is appreciated by the residents and families. They all had techniques for working with my mom. The on site occupational and physical therapy are outstanding. So is the nursing care. And when our family reached the end of life phase with Mom, Harmony Hall was excellent at that as well, partering seamlessly with Gilchrist, right in her familiar home, moms Harmony Hall apartment. Harmony Hall was a great home for Mom 21 years ago when was mobile and actively participated in activities. It was still great as her health declined over the years. Mom had a peaceful passing, in her own apartment at Harmony Hall, with her family and familiar caregivers around her. I am thankful we were able to partner with Harmony Hall to provide this.

Harmony Hall isnt your regular retirement facility. It is a facility with a mission to care for the residents that live there. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. The movie theater is beautiful!

Great community. Friendly staff providing excellent care. Visited a friend recently who moved to Harmony Hall because they offer dialysis on-site. I had no idea that this service was offered at an assisted living community.

I am a visitor here and every time I come the staff is all very warm and welcoming. The building is updated and clean, and there is a dynamic group of residents to connect with. I especially love the group of ladies who I enjoy playing Canasta with!

My mother was recently diagnosed with Parkinson disease. After months in the hospital and rehab we were fortunate enough to find her a forever home at Harmony Hall. The entire staff - administrative, transportation, nurses, care givers, dining room - ALL of them are truly amazing. They made mom feel comfortable and cared for and are always responsive to any questions we have. During this pandemic they have risen above and beyond to keep the residents and staff protected and safe, as well as the family members informed.

If you want a second family that will truly care about your loved one, research no further- Harmony Hall is the right choice! I did EXTENSIVE research before transferring my mom from rehab to Harmony Hall, and I couldnt be happier. I was impressed with the staff before the pandemic, but now I am honestly just blown away by the level of commitment by the entire staff - not only to my moms heath and safety, but to her happiness and desire to stay socially engaged. The amount of communication with the families during this quarantine has been simply remarkable and appreciated more than I can express. The staff has gone above and beyond to keep my mom connected to her family through video calls and now even an in--person visit by my sister and nieces from a safe distance. I look forward to being able to fly back to Maryland and see my mom and thank the staff. Harmony Hall is an absolutely beautiful facility with an incredibly caring staff. I was extremely worried when COVID-19 first hit and was scared for my mom and the entire elderly population across the country, but it all changed when one of her nurses told me on the phone that she loves my mom as if she were her mom.

My family could not have picked a better place for my dads last couple of months. He was with Harmony Hall from Feb. 2020 through May 2020. Even though not being able to visit him during the COVID outbreak, the staff at Harmony Hall were like his 2nd family. The facility is super nice, like a resort. My dad was extremely happy with the facility and staff. Much appreciation to the Harmony Hall family for taking such good care of him through a difficult time!!! You will always be in my heart!! An absolutely lovely facility, with amazing, friendly, and helpful staff. Harmony Hall helped us host a charity event, and everyone was beyond amazing. The facility itself is beautiful and has newly been renovated, and every time we walked in there, everyone looked so happy. Harmony Hall is well organized, and always has lots of events going on for the people who live there. They have movie nights, bingo nights, and other community events to bring everyone together. Everyone is super nice and I highly recommend Lorien Harmony Hall.

I cannot say enough good things about Lorien health services in Taneytown, MD. When the time came that my grandfather needed more care than I could provide, he started his time at Lorien on the nursing side, moving to a private apartment on the assisted living side a few months later. The staff went above and beyond for him, providing more care and support than I could’ve ever imagined. I cannot adequately put into words how thankful I am for the amount of compassion, understanding and the level of care he received during his stay at Lorien. Nothing could’ve prepared us for the friendships he formed with residents and staff during his stay, and our only regret is not convincing him to move in sooner. Thank you, Lorien staff, for all that you provided for my grandfather and the peace of mind you provided for our family.

I love my Lorien Bulle Rock Facility!!! I am currently the Admissions Director, and I’ve been a part of the Lorien Family for over 7+ years. I enjoy waking up every morning, and coming in to see my Residents. They put that SPECIAL smile on my face, that no one can erase. We have spacious private rooms, great staff, quality care, and great activities for your loved one to pass the time away, in between their physical therapy. Call me and schedule a tour. My dad has been at Lorien Taneytown for 2 1, 2 years. The staff is so attentive and caring, the facility is spotless and the dining room and kitchen are very accommodating to individual tastes. There is always some activity to join in that appeal to different interests. I highly recommend this assisted living home. Dad has made new friends and enjoys living at Lorien.

The Staff at Lorien in Taneytown was attentive, friendly and professional to my friend Nancy who was a resident there for 3 years. They made her feel at home, and went out of their way to make sure her time there was the best it could be. That is from the staff in the dining room, the front desk, the cleaners, the nursing staff, and even the hair dresser. Wonderful place full of caring and kind-hearted people.

Lorien Elkridge did a great job in caring for my mother after she fell and broke her hip. This was my first experience in working with a skilled nursing facility and I found staff very responsive each staff member to my requests. I especially want to recognize the Director of Admissions who patiently answered all my questions and assisted me in making the arrangements. My mother was very pleased with the services and care that she received and is now sad to be leaving. The PT staff worked with her six days a week and weve seen a lot of progress. Harmony Hall is a place full of friendly and lovely residents. The three stars im giving is because of the staff. No clean towels unless you bother them about it more than once. No picking up trash from the apartments. Staff in the cafeteria are rude to residents and always have an attitude. No respect and no patience towards the residents. Some residents even avoid asking for more things because of the attitude they get in return.

The staff at Encore At Turf Valley provided great care of my mom. She appreciated the level of care & concern she received. Though she had little appetite, the food was good. She made friends with a variety of people and enjoyed the available activities. Ive read some of the reviews of other Lorien-based facilities, both negative & positive. The feedback is good in deciding where you want your loved-ones to be cared for. I look at the average rating, look at the percentage of each star rating (1-5), discount the extreme positive (possible shill) and extreme negative (possible bias) ratings. This is similar to the approach I take to Amazon ratings. Though, choosing who cares for your loved-one may be more important than choosing a toaster oven--just maybe

Terrible experience at Lorien Bel Air with employees yelling to each other up and down the hallways (not for business purposes), screaming at a client by name like a dog in trouble while they were trying to get her out of bed, elderly client screaming like an abused animal and staff yelling at her- all because she refused to have her hair done for the a.m. Ignored patient trying to move his food tray to get out to the activity center for the gospel entertainment, ignoring call button from rehab patient (fall risk patient) on the toilet for 25+ minutes loved one found her on the toilet unattended, forgot to have patient brush her teeth after bathing and back in bed and the attitude was oh well until I had to brush loved ones teeth in bed, after bathing tech left dirty water in pink basin in the sink with dirty wash cloth & again I personally had to drain & remove it. Kevin the activities director is the only person I had contact with that was attentive and caring- bringing the patient flowers. (And a lovely young lady delivering coffee in the morning.) Lorien will lose him to a better job opportunity when he gets one and I wouldn’t blame him! Shame on Lorien for lack of better oversight, empathy training, and lack of good hiring screening. A detention center has better care of their inmates than Lorien and their elderly, rehab patients. Advocate for your loved ones and skip Lorien! And I already reported this to the head nurse, Wendy, today. And to top it all off my loved one was transported to UCH and we didn’t get a call until 9 hours later at 2:30 am!!!!

After undergoing rehabilitation for a hip injury, my 81-year-old father resided at Harmony Hall for about six weeks in a respite care apartment. Kendall was extremely helpful with the admissions process and continued to provide top-notch assistance and attention throughout his stay, all the way through and beyond his discharge. She could not have been more helpful and accommodating. The nurses and other staff members were also great, making us feel at ease while moving through what was a completely unfamiliar situation for my dad, myself and the rest of our family. I highly recommend Harmony Hall!!!

My dad moved into Harmony Hall in October 2015. He had a great one bedroom apartment that was very spacious. Before moving dad to Harmony Hall I visited over 20 assisted living in the Anne Arundel and Howard County area. Harmony Hall by far offered the most Care at the best price ever. The caregivers really took good care of my dad and kept me informed at all times. I spent a lot of time with dad at Harmony Hall. The food was delicious and the staff was incredible. unfortunately Dad passed two weeks ago he had been in bad shape for a long time. He kept telling me he just wanted to get back to Harmony Hall. I thank all of the folks at Harmony Hall. I highly recommend Harmony Hall Im glad Dad got to spend time there and I got to meet such nice people.

My grandmother transferred to Riverside from another companys facility back in January. Since her move, we no longer have to worry about her care because we know she is now in the excellent hands of Lorien caregivers. She has thrived beyond our expectations. My parents moved to Harmony Hall in January 2002 and remained there until my Dad passed in June 2013 and Mom in August 2014. They moved to Harmony Hall because my mom found them to be the only assisted living facility which would provide the extra help she needed to care for my dad after his stroke the previous year and she wanted to get him out of the nursing home where he felt he was in prison (literally). The extra assistance along with her tireless efforts (and lots of PT and OT) enabled Dad to recover to the point where he could walk with a walker and he ended up taking laps around the place. They moved to the first floor and lived there for almost ten years before Dad began an 18 month decline in his final illness.With respect to the staff I never saw any of the staff be less than patient and kind in that 12+ years despite the constant repetition needed with those suffering dementia. Being only about 10 miles away I was there a lot.Staff turnover was much lower than I would have thought and there were a couple of staff members who were there before my parents arrived and remained though the entire time that I was visiting HH.The most heartwarming thing for me was that all of the staff members dropped by the room to say their goodbyes during the time between my moms death and when the funeral home staff arrived to take her.
