My experience at Lorien Columbia was absolutely wonderful. All the staff were skilled and. caring and treated me so very well. I must especially commend two of the nurses who were so professional and had such a tremendous bedside manner. Nurses Ellen and Leah (I’m sorry I cannot remember their last names but the cared for me in Room 208)made my stay at Lorien Columbia a good and memorable experience. - a 5 star experience. . They were skilled at their work with my condition and they helped keep my attitude positive and joyful. In all my years at Lorien institutions they are the finest nurses that I have ever encountered. The food was really good and having choices was a fine experience. This was my third trip through Lorien Columbia and the meals were better than ever. All in all my time at Lorien Columbia was fantastic.

My 93 year old mother-in-law was at Lorien Columbia for rehabilitation after a 9 day stay at Howard County General Hospital. We all (MIL, FIL and me) were extremely pleased with all the staff who helped her during this time. In particular, we found Kena, LaFrance, Nasirah, Iffy, Angela, Elizabeth and Josh to be very caring and attentive, which in turn helped her to reach her goal of returning home in just 2 short weeks. PT, OT & speech therapists were wonderful as well. Lorien has done an amazing job of hiring the right people to care for patients in a challenging hiring environment and deserve many kudos for this.

Kadesha from Lorien called us to inform us we were accepted for rehab transferred me to Helen in the Finance area and she explained to me what to expect. Ms La La admitted us at roughly 1030 pm Very professional and had a smile even though my demeanor wasn’t the most pleasant due to my sheer exhaustion. Our encounter with staff from 3 south was very accommodating. Kena consistently followed up throughout our stay to check on us. Dr Thomas was very professional forthcoming and thorough my Mom complimented his bed side manner. Mom for the most part enjoyed most of the meals. Mom was experiencing lack of sleep Due to our room mate having intermittent loud outbursts. Mom was able to transition to a new room. The 3 south staff was a tough act to follow but the 2 south staff picked up where they left off. The dialysis center provided my mom with Smoothness in the sticking process. McKenna was able to get answer questions needed. On visits Whitney at the front desk always smiled and said enjoy your visit Sterling Thoroughly explained the discharge process . My mom s rehab experience was a success

Some caregivers are not doing their job well. For example, it was evening bedtime, and the bed was messed. When I said, "Could you make bed for my mom?" she said, "Someone did it in the morning." I think is not right. Korean food . Need nutrition facts.

We brought our dad from other nursing home because my mother passed away there. Dad was very depressed. Here at Lorien dad got better and better every day. Thanks to all the help from staff specially the nurse Oh. She’s Korean and my dad feels comfortable with her. Her care made my dad recover from depression. Dad seems relaxed and eating well too. As the unit coordinator for 3-South, La France is OUTSTANDING! She represents the epitome of patient and family-centered care. I was so upset and worried when I found out my dad was being transferred to Lorien, but when I called the unit, La France calmed me down and assured me that the team would take great care of him”and they did. My dad is a current patient and I’ve been with him on a daily basis. Since my time here, La France has been extremely helpful. Whenever I have a question about Lorien protocol, transportation, missing menu items, off-site physician appointments, etc., La France always stops what she’s doing to help me. She juggles multiple responsibilities with the greatest of ease, and her multitasking skills are over the top! La France’s kindness means so much to me and my dad. We are sincerely grateful.

As I begin the process of being discharged from Lorien Columbia I reflect on my story here. When I first came here I expected to stay here about 2-3 months but due to several major health issues during my stay which extended my stay to 3 years. Through the excellent care by staff equal service by the in house therapy I became particularly mobile and I started to join in the activities offered. I met and I have made many great friends. The residents and staff greeted me with such a welcome and love. I feel that each day I became a little stronger and more independent. The staff was with me every step of the way to prepare me for the trip home. Lorien Columbia far exceeds the quality of the others. The staff were very accessible from the administrator to the house keepers. They are accommodating from the food requirements to supplying everything in between. All of my needs were met. I would not hesitate to recommend Lorien to be of the highest quality to meet anyone's needs

I brought my mom here for rehabilitation and it was the Best choice I had made. I'm so glad I did. It's very clean , the nursing staff and all the employees are so welcoming and they care about their patients. They guided and involved me in my mom's care all throughout the process. They were able to figure out why my mom couldn't eat and so many other issues. My mom had come from a different rehab that should not be in business in by any means. Poor patient care, when you push your call button for help, it takes 30 minutes or more to get a response. When ordering food, you don't get what you ask for, you get what they want to give you. If you complain to try and get what you asked for, it takes 2 hours or more, if you get the food. After speaking with management, the food experience has improved and response times for help. I was transferred to this facility from the hospital after having surgery for a broken leg and crushed knee. I required around the clock care, medication, every day wound care, physical, and occupational therapy. From the very first day I arrived the head nurse and assistant nurse were absolutely wonderful. They were committed to my comfort and care, I was assigned a phenomenal nurse. She was competent, committed and dedicated to my well-being. In addition, the support staff was just as important to my recovery. At least once a week a staff member would stop by to check on my experience. I think how I would describe my overall experience is that I felt safe. The facility was clean. The room was mobbed and wiped down every day.

Hi, my name is Yvonne and I would like to share my experience with my mom then at Lorien. It is the best thing that ever happened for my mother. I don’t know how many words that I have that I can use. It was a scary thing of course to allow my mother to go anywhere, but it’s time went on learning that the love that they have for my mom and I understanding and understanding that they have for me was great because I went through a lot of changes also. And I thank God for the staff from the top to the bottom that was willing to listen to me about anything I needed to talk about because of my fear because of my because of my lack of understanding, they help me to trust that everything is going to be OK and that my mom is going to be OK and that they love my mother and that they love me too. I’m starting to drop tears as a right I feel the love that they have for me and I feel the love that they have for my mom. They call my mom Mother Knight. They understand more about her than I do with her dementia. I’m so happy that they do because it’s time that I fall short my story that can go on and on and on, but I will say that I wouldn’t want my mom no other place. This is her second time there I don’t know what else to say but all great things about Lorien. It was times that the staff took the time for me that I need it and all I just wanna do right now is just say thank you cause water is coming down my eyes that’s enough. Thank you you guys. I love y’all.

A family member was recently in the rehab at Lorien Columbia. We were there just a few months ago as well. On both occasions, the service was excellent. Nursing is attentive, the aids are very supportive and caring and the PT, OT and Speech therapy is top-notch too. While in rehab, we participated in some activities such as bingo, cookie baking and movies and manicure service. Those extras really make a difference too to help fill in time and also provide some essential services. Even the team who cares for the cleaning was good too. Most patients in the rehab need a lot of help from the aids for toileting, food, cleaning, etc. Their job is thankless but everyone on the floor does a superb job. I'd highly recommend Lorien Columbia for their rehab services as the nursing and therapy are exceptional.

Hi, I have had the BEST experience with Lorien in Columbia. I have been to other nursing homes and nothing compares to the care concern the cleanliness and the nursing and staff at Lorien in Columbia. I had 7 surgeries and needed to recover at nursing homes. The staff including the hospitality, nursing aides, nurses, and doctors have been very professional friendly and careful with me. The food is really good and people seem to really care. It’s never a fun thing to go to a nursing home but Lorien does the best to make it a positive experience.

My mother was here for about two weeks for rehabilitation after a major hospital stay. We had a mixed experience. Much of the staff were kind, professional, and friendly. A few were not. On more than one occasion, there was a mix-up with the medicine being distributed. There was also a mixed bag when it came to the meals. The food that was delivered was good, but usually not what was requested on the meal order form. Sometimes, even the food list accompanying the meals did not match the food being delivered.

Our loved one was at Lorien Columbia in January 2024 for rehab after a hip break/replacement surgery. Honestly, I was dreading another rehab experience after having several horrible experiences with another loved one's rehab stays, which included another Lorien location (total nightmare at all levels of the organization.) We were pleasantly surprised with our LO's experience at Lorien Columbia and began to breathe a little easier as the days progressed. Pretty much everyone on the 3rd floor was kind, attentive and generally seemed to care. Something as simple as seeing staff pop his/her head in rooms and ask how the patient is doing and if they need anything, was just so refreshing. Although everyone was truly lovely, there are two individuals that really stood out. Nurse Barbara was a mover/shaker on her shifts. If something was supposed to happen and it wasn't noted as verbalized by a previous shift, Barbara was all over it to resolve and make sure our LO's chart was correct and things were being followed. Kierstie was just an angel. The care and attention she showed to everyone was just incredible. She was such a hard worker and always did it with a smile. Kierstie has a special gift in elderly care-giving and Lorien is lucky to have her on staff. The food was much better than other rehabs our LOs have experienced and menus were catered to individual needs and wants. The food services gentleman would stop by regularly to make sure meals were going well and to see if there was anything else he could do with our LO's meal experiences. The rehab staff helped our LO make good progress and the staff was always nice. The front desk and administrative staff was always nice and helpful. With Lorien Columbia, were there hiccups? Yes, but imo that's just the world we live in, whether it's rehab or the hospital. Families have to advocate and be part of the solution with the medical/nursing/care team. Pretty much everywhere, staff is stretched so thin and they do the best they can. One of the big differentiators with the Lorien Columbia staff was their kindness and treating our LO with dignity, regardless of what their workload was each day. Thank you to all the Lorien Columbia staff for all you do! You are appreciated!

We’ve encountered so many problems in this place. Here are just a few: 1) Food is awful. My mother, who is a vegetarian, asked for a vegetarian menu. The menu lists many meal options. Yet she has been served the same meal (over and over and over) - a dried out black bean burger. 2) Some (not all) of the aides have been condensing and impatient with my mom, which is demoralizing to her and her family. 3) There is no written schedule for physical therapy or occupational therapy. It’s impossible to know when the PTs and OTs are going to show up. My mom has not had PT for 5 days straight and there is no excuse for that. 4) My mom did not receive a shower for 5 days straight and now only receives a shower 2 times per week. 5) When we push the button for an aide or a nurse, it usually takes at least 30 minutes or more for anyone to arrive. 6) A nurse practitioner reprimanded me for bringing my mom a medication that had been prescribed by her doctor. It was clearly labeled. I brought it to her because, based on our experience, the process for obtaining prescriptions onsite is slow and disorganized. When my mother first arrived, she waited 3 days for a medication and then it was misplaced (or lost/stolen from the nurses’ station). I did not appreciate being reprimanded by the nurse practitioner. She also took the medication away even though it was clearly labeled and prescribed by a doctor. Overall, this place is understaffed and the staff seems disorganized. But there are some caring, nice and sweet staff. For example, Kena has been kind and responsive.

Everyone was kind and caring. I never imagined I would be doing so well. I am doing even better than before I went to the hospital and then rehab. Chelsea, the administrator, is wonderful. She cares about how the residents are doing. The therapy team are amazing! Marsha and Geronimo, to name a couple, encouraged me with their humor and kindness. I accomplished things I never thought I would be able to. Elizabeth was my favorite GNA. I looked forward to seeing her everyday. She was so kind and caring. Adrienne the dietician taught my husband and me a lot about my diet. She was supportive. All the nurses were great. Jess was especially helpful. The social work team made my discharge very smooth and easy. I can't say enough great things about this place. The food was good. Dr. Gupta was my doctor and she was very responsive. I received excellent care from her. When my family came to visit, they all said how clean and beautiful the facility looked. Thank you to everyone!-Mary

In two words LIFE CHANGING! Lorien Columbia Rehabilitation Center changed my sister's and by extension our family's lives. The team members work together to provide exceptional care for the residents. They tailor the resident's care to their individual needs. They motivate and celebrate every achievement. The team treats each resident with dignity, respect and like family. Just last night, an aide was training and she told the young lady, you treat every patient like they are the person you love most in this world. They go outside of their purview to find the right answers and to make the residents safe. The nurses are incredible. In the past few months my family has gotten to know most of them and they know us. We celebrate the successes together. This sub-acute care facility specializes in weaning patients from the ventalator, speech, physical and occupational therapy. The Respiratory Therapist's are incredible. Six months ago, my sister was not expected to live.(said multiple doctors). Now, she's expected to be off the ventalator within days and at home within weeks. Leadership starts at the top and it is apparent throughout the facility. The residents are happy and it is awesome seeing them in the halls or the courtyard visiting with family. Communication is key and I have not been disappointed. They welcome calls, emails and encourage visitors regularly. I researched and applied to this facility twice before my sister was accepted. I would recommend Lorien Columbia to anyone with a loved one whom requires sub-acute care. This is our family.
