New Horizons is a special place. The warm family environment is obvious from your first visit. They provide both independent and assisted living options. The staff is exceptional. We feel so grateful to have found such a special place for our mom to call home.

I think the whole history and structure of New Horizons as a nonprofit entity of the Cummings Foundation lets it shine in a way that is very unique. It may not have some of the flashier offerings of newer facilities, but it has a warm, intimate feeling, with many long time employees and a wonderful management staff that really care and enjoy their work. It is most assuredly not sterile and corporate-feeling, and my mother-in-law has enjoyed New Horizons for 7 years.

New Horizons Woburn is unlike any senior living community I have seen. We looked at many in the area and none of them are like this. The others seemed cold and impersonal, with high employee turnover as we discovered. New Horizons has a positive "word of mouth" buzz to it and deservedly so. When you enter this place, you will immediately get it it just feels right. First off, it's not run by a private equity firm, like most of the others. New Horizons is a non-profit, owned by the Cummings Foundation. Bill Cummings, the impressive founder of Cummings Properties (and the Cummings Foundation,) lives nearby and visits frequently. The New Horizons staff, led by Christine Coakley, Executive Director (30 years there) Barbra Graham, Assoc Executive Director (14 years there) as well as Vanessa, are very warm and caring people. They have done a great job creating a community culture where the staff knows everyone's names, makes residents feel welcome and offers plenty of fun activities for everyone to take part in each day. There is an onsite maintenance team there who work to keep the place in tip top shape. Also the food is great and its three meals a day included in the price, not the two meals a day at most competitors. Many of the staff have been at New Horizons for decades which is amazing. I feel good knowing my mom is in a place that cares about it's residents. Mom (and our family) feels so fortunate we found New Horizons Choate!

We can't say enough great things about New Horizons at Choate. My 98-year-old mother-in-law moved in this Fall and the facility, programs and especially the staff couldn't be nicer. They make everyone feel special and taken care of - even the families of the residents. Christine runs a superb organization - you can tell her warm and attentive style has left its mark on everyone there.

My very with it, 87 year old Mother, Lois moved up here from Florida, not for the weather, but to be near us in Winchester. We chose New Horizons at Choate in Woburn which is part of the Cummings Foundation. It is a non-profit facility for independent and assisted living. From the moment we walked in we knew this place was something special. It wasn't the fanciest or the biggest, but all the people were warm and welcoming. The place was "alive". My mother ended up spending 6 1/2 wonderful years at Choate. Even through the pandemic she was kept safe, fed and was visited by staff. She passed away suddenly on February 3, 2023 at age 93. The staff at Choate love working at the facility. Because of this they have amazingly real longevity. There are college students who help serve meals to earn college scholarships. There are ice cream socials and parties. The activities and games vary depending on the clientele at the moment. There is always Bingo, educational programs, music, art, movies and exercise classes. There are van trips to the local museums, sight-seeing and stores. If you have a car you may park it on-site free of charge. They have a hairdresser. They serve three amazing home cooked meals a day, and coffee, soda, wine, snacks are all included. My mother also played Bridge, joined the book club, played trivia, Scrabble, Poker and Texas hold-um. Because there are only 100 beds, the meals come out hot, and one always has a choice for meals. My mother was always impressed with the holiday meals, which often included huge cocktail shrimp, filet mignon and Limoncello cake. There is always great dessert! We share this review because we think New Horizon's at Choate is a top notch, five-star facility. Not a fancy place, but truly an environment filled with love, caring people and staff.

New Horizons is not only amazing, it is extraordinary. Our mother has been a resident for over 4 years & to this day she continues to talk about how wonderful the place is. From the kitchen staff to Christine, the Director, the employees are warm & caring. If our mother unexpectedly doesn't arrive for a meal, someone is at her door, to check on her. Management is just a phone call away & is always there to help answer questions. New Horizons still maintains a homey, welcoming environment. It feels like you are walking into your living room, yet management's door is right there & always open. They know everyone by name & truly care about every resident. There isn't a day that goes by that we don't all feel blessed to have found New Horizons.

New Horizons at Choate has provided my 94 year old mother with a caring, friendly and safe environment. She thinks the world of the people who provide her care, from the food staff and maintenance people right up to the administrators. Moving into new surrounding is never an easy task, but she has transitioned well and that's a real compliment to New Horizons. We couldn't be happier with mom's experience and the lifestyle that they provide.

When they said "There's no place like home" they were talking about New Horizons at Choate. As my parents grew older and tired of maintaining a home and felt they wanted to be closer to their children, they moved from thier dream home in Maine to New Horizons in Woburn. The staff is great. From the housekeeping to mantenance to kichen and front desk staff, they make you feel like you've lived there all your life. They can't do enough for you. Having moved there has been one of the best decisions my parents ever made. Claudia Hughes

This review is being written by Ann Marquis. My mother has been living at New Horizons for the past 2 1/2 years. She has lived her entire life in Woburn, so it was a very nice transition when she moved into her apartment. It is very social with lots of activities and many opportunities to interact with old and new friends. It was a great comfort to myself and my siblings to see the wonderful care that New Horizon provided, especially this past year with the COVID pandemic in full force. The staff was wonderful not only to our Mom but also to us, keeping us updated throughout this past year. We take great comfort in knowing that our Mom is safe and happy at New Horizons.....it is a wonderful place to live .

I have been a resident at New Horizons for almost three years now, and I feel very fortunate to be here. My apartment is comfortable and attractive, but I also enjoy the group spaces - the beautiful flower-bordered patio, the comfortable shared living-room, and other areas where residents meet to play board games or cards or just visit. The meals are varied and delicious, and the kitchen and wait-staff make every effort to respond to special requests. At every level, from the management to the cleaning and custodial staff. we have unfailingly friendly cooperative and helpful assistance. Remarkably, all of this is unusually (almost uniquely) affordable due to the generous support of the Cummings Foundation. New Horizons is a non-profit facility.

Reflections at New Horizons. In the military they say "they go the extra mile." I would say that moto exists at New Horizons. Nearing three years of living here, I can honestly say they have provided model support in all areas. The staff handles all requests in a professional manner. Areas of security, comfort, routine administrative support, food service and maintenance earn high marks. A pleasure living here.

My mother moved into New Horizons in January 2020 and couldn't be happier! She is surrounded by a warm and caring staff committed to maintaining a happy, healthy, and safe community for the residents. My mother has made wonderful friends and is very content. There is nothing more important to my family and me than knowing that mom is as cared about and as cared for as she is at New Horizons. Thank you to all!!

I contacted New Horizons (lisa) about having my son's wedding pictures done on the grounds. The grounds were so beautiful and so well maintained I knew they would be the perfect backdrop. Lisa was the perfect contact and was very excited for my son and his wife. New Horizons was very welcoming when the Trolley pulled up and the pictures were terrific. Thanks so much for the warm welcome!!!!!!! Marlen

My mother, Janet Mercer, has been a completely satisfied member of the New Horizons at Choate family for 11 years. We celebrated her 98 th birthday there this past October and I can honestly say there is no place my mother would rather be. Everyone that works at New Horizons from the front desk to the kitchen and custodial staff is 100% invested in helping and supporting the residents that live there. For my mom this is home and the management team that works here is unbelievable. They have somehow managed to successfully manage themselves and everyone living there through these unprecedented days and months of this pandemic safely, which I find remarkable, but it's a testament to the level of commitment they make to everyone in their care. Christine, Lisa, Barbara, Trisha and Magdalena are all part of the management team here and they really make a difference in making sure that New Horizons does everything it can to foster well being in their unique community. Not only does New Horizons feel like home it is also immaculately kept. The grounds are always groomed with beautiful flowers and the facilities are spotless. I feel so comfortable knowing that my mother is in a place that really cares about it's residents and I know I can pick up the phone and call anyone there and they will go out of their way to try and help me. The people and the amenities are fantastic. This is more than a place for people to live in their later years, this is home.

I honestly cannot say enough great things about New Horizons. My father has lived there for 8 years and the attention, activities, service and care he receives are absolutely amazing. The staff truly care for the residents and treat them like family. I am familiar with many of the senior living options in this area, and there isn't any place that comes close to the level of service and value for your money. My father and I both feel so fortunate to have him call New Horizons home. I don't give recommendations often, but I have absolutely no hesitations in referring people to New Horizons.

My Mother in law lived in Tucson Arizona and one year after her husband passed away she called her son and said she wanted to move to be closer to one of her children. That started our search for a Senior Living Facility. We visited a handful of them but decided on New Horizons in Woburn. She has been at New Horizons for over 6 years and the staff are by far the BEST in the business. They interact with all of the residents and know all of their names. They have a lot of activities for the seniors and they have a bus that takes the Seniors shopping or on mystery rides to entertain them. I cannot say how happy we are to have Ruth at New Horizons. If you are in need of Senior living for a loved one or family, look no further than New Horizons. During the Covid-19 Pandemic New Horizons did a great job of keeping the Seniors safe. They implemented policies of how families can interact with the residents. Great Job New Horizons, Christine, Barbra, Lisa, just to name a few, Keep up the good work.
