My sister moved my mom into Heatherwood about 2 years ago. At first we saw so many good things, but after 6 to 8 months we started seeing issues. While there are medical personnel on site, I was disappointed to see there is no nutritionist available to teach the kitchen staff about dietary issues. For example, people with diabetes and high blood pressure have little to no choices for meals. Everything is very salty and lots and lots of carbs. Additionally, the staff does not cook for all the residents. The kitchen runs out of food quite often, leaving residents hungry. And, there is no dedicated transportation, although it was promised, (one of the reasons my sister put her here.) The excuse is they cannot get a bus driver. But mom misses so many Dr. appointments and we do not want her taking an Uber, as they are dangerous. Please check things out by asking residents before you consider this place for your parents.

We moved my mother/mother-in/law to Heatherwood Gracious Retirement Living in August, 2020 and have been very happy with this decision. Heatherwood provides a beautiful, inviting, and well kept retirement environment for delighted residents with large and lovely apartments and offers many outstanding amenities, These include three, chef-prepared and delicious meals, daily, a multitude of activities (under an enthusiastic and hands-on activities director), attentive housekeeping and maintenance individuals, and transportation for those needing rides to doctor appointments and shopping trips, etc. Mike and Shannon Mulkeen, the managers, are top notch at their jobs and committed to making sure the residents remain engaged and eager to partake of everything this wonderful facility has to offer. They truly care about the residents and their needs and they are always friendly and approachable. We sought out extra care from the in-house healthcare agency (All In One Healthcare, LLC), as many other residents have done, and we have been very pleased with the services they are providing. The healthcare agency staff, under the direction of Joelle Webber, has been so helpful, caring, compassionate, and professional while overseeing some of the daily needs of my mother/mother-in-law. We feel completely comfortable and at ease knowing this great agency and staff goes the extra mile to make sure the residents receive the additional help they might need on a daily basis. Everyone in this retirement community strives for excellence in everything they do for their appreciative and grateful residents. My mother lived at Heatherwood for about 8 years. She loved having friends and meeting new people, playing cards and dancing to the many musicians who performed regularly. Having meals in the beautiful dining room with friends, playing bingo, and going on outings with the bus kept her happy and healthy. As she needed more help, we hired the All In One healthcare team members to provide daily wellness checks and assist with her medications. It was always a joy to visit Mom, the neighbors became my friends as well. The cost is quite reasonable for the all inclusive housekeeping, meals, activities, transportation, movies, and 24 hour on site managers. The physical facility is very nice. The staff changes over quite frequently unfortunately. The activities are comparable to most other senior facilities and there is a bus available. The menu is controlled by the corporate office on the West Coast and no special diets are available. None. They don't even reduce the salt content as you normally would for seniors, so everyone has swollen ankles. The response to emergencies ie ambulances and such is great. Their response to broken pipes, no water, and no elevator problems have been much, much slower and quite inconvenient and were allowed to go on for 3+ weeks. I believe the Health Dept keeps a closer eye on them now. The rent goes up annually.

My father lived at Heatherwood for years. We had a great experience there. The facility offers a lot of amenities to the residents. The managers, Sue and Duncan, were very helpful to me and my family in transitioning my father to assisted living recently. Heatherwood is a nice place to call home.

I have visited and stayed over with my Mom many times while she has been in Heatherwood. The staff goes above and beyond to help their residents stay happy. They have a new chef, there are numerous activities and the medical personnel are available for assistance. My family knows Mom is in a beautiful, caring environment.
