My mom’s experience in memory care at the Residence at Freeman Lake was extremely negative. Her residency began in July 2022 and ended in July 2024. From October 2023, when the present team took over, until she left in July 2024, things went from bad to worse. My mom’s level of care was abysmal—compassion, engagement, and activities were non-existent, making for an upsetting and frustrating experience for my mom and our family. Here’s what my mom experienced: Mom was consistently neglected. She was not cued on changing clothes or showering for 22 days. Even after addressing this with the team, the neglect continued. There were days that the RCAs did not show up in the morning or at bedtime. Some days their presence was obsolete. Mom was on her own. There was only one RCA—Madhina—that was kind to my mom and treated her with compassion and respect. Unfortunately, Madhina was not always scheduled to care for mom. Mom did not receive her meds at the appropriate times and there were times she did not receive them at all. Mom had fallen out of bed this past June and was on the floor for over 2 hours. She managed to get herself up. Hourly checks were not taking place or mom would not have been on the floor for over 2 hours. And when the RCA did come into mom's room that morning, she ignored her, not saying so much as a good morning. Mom’s RCAs lacked the training, and compassion, needed to interact and care for her. Here’s more on the team: The team, consisting of the executive director, memory care director, reflections director, and senior regional directors, offered resolutions but did not follow through. The memory care and reflections directors’ level of knowledge was poor. All three lacked support, empathy, and professionalism. Emails and phone calls were not returned in a timely manner or even returned at all. We had two huge meetings with the Ombudsman present and nothing was done to prevent the ongoing lack of care, to ensure activities were taking place, and to address the lack of support from the team. The team admitted to dropping the ball on mom’s care and their lack of activities but did not take the appropriate steps to resolve these issues. The team made a huge effort to turn mom’s roommate’s family against us on the authorized security camera we had placed in mom’s side of the room following our suspicion that she wasn’t being cared for. The team’s focus was on the camera—which was authorized by the executive director and there was also a sign indicating a camera by the door. They tried everything in their power to use this against us when all we wanted to do was monitor our mom—and rightfully so. My mom should never have been subjected to this kind of treatment and lack of care. At Freeman, it was all about the money, not my mom’s care and well-being. It seems to me and worth noting that a significant number of the positive reviews for Freeman appear to come from individuals who are current or former employees. Mom is finally receiving the care, support, and compassion that she deserves. She is thriving at her new residence. I sincerely hope that this review saves future families the heartache of discovering their loved one is not getting the care they deserve.

I sincerely hope that this review saves future families the heartache of discovering their loved one is not getting the care they deserve.

My Grandmother has been living here for the past couple years and words can't express how amazing the staff is. I recently just went to visit my grandmother and had some questions. I spoke to an amazing nurse director, Desiree who answered every question I had. She was unbelievable that words can't even describe how passionate and knowledgeable she was!!!!! We have just chosen the Residence for our Mom. We walked in the building and people were gathered by the fireplace singing and dancing having cocktails. A harp player, and live singing. This place is ALIVE. We laughed our entire time spent there. The staff were laughing and dancing, you could see the true connections. One of the women who lived there, made a point to stop by and let me know how fantastic her life has been since she moved in, which was nice to hear. Feels like a fun place to be when you walk in. I can't wait til it's my time to choose a place like this. We look forward to Mom making this her new home.

When my 91 year old mother (now 92) arrived at the Residence from rehab in April 2023, she was weak and had to be transport in a wheelchair to meals, etc. Now she is involved in activities at the Residence, goes shopping, and using her walker she easily walks to meals and other areas of the Residence. The care she has received has not only improved her health, strength, and well being; also, for my family we feel confident and relieved knowing she is safe and being cared for by this compassionate, professional, and expert staff. We are so grateful Mom is living and thriving at The Residence. Thank you to the dedicated staff in all departments at The Residence.

Freeman Staff impressed us from the first day! We had pulled in by accident at first looking for another community which we had an appointment nearby. But noticed how beautiful it was right away. After we went to our previously scheduled appointment we went back and tried calling. My phone disconnected the call, and I was not expecting to get a tour so last minute anyways. They called us back immediately to follow up. Even though we did not have an appointment Stephanie welcomed us with open arms for a tour. They even had warm freshly baked cookies waiting for us after the tour. We knew that day Freeman Lake was the right fit for our Father. The place is stunning inside and out! Our experience surpassed our expectations. We cannot thank all the staff enough for the warm welcome they showed our Father. Even though his stay was sadly cut short due to his passing we highly recommend this community!

Our loved one has been in Brookdale for almost 3 weeks. The staff is very caring and accommodating. Shane Thomas the Sales & Marketing Director was amazing during the admittance process. We had a short window to make a decision and she was responsive and informative. I'm in the community often, both Shane and the Director are present and engage with the residents. During the holidays they held many activities. It's not always perfect, but I feel confident that we selected the right community.
