My son and I explored 5 other area memory care facilities, and selected the Atrium at Cardinal Drive as far and away the best facility for my wife. She genuinely loves the other residents and the Resident Care Assistants, and feels that love returned. There are many activities available, and opportunities for socialization, which was an important factor for us. There is definitely a neighborhood/family vibe. All of the nurses, department heads and program directors have been extremely responsive and available whenever needed. We are as pleased as we can be, given a less than ideal situation necessitated by my wife's diagnosis.

The Atrium is fabulous. My sister came in as a level 5 care after being in a nursing facility . No walking not really talking. Sleeping all the time. Had to be fed. Within 1 month, the change was unvelievable. The staff encouraged her to participate and even if she didnt want to participate, they had her watch....no sitting around alone. No sleeping. Lots of hands on care. Today...she is back to where she was when she went to the terrible nursing facility for rehab. She is now level 2 and gets around with her walker and loves it there. I am beyond grateful for the Atrium for giving me my sister back so we can enjoy the time we have together

I would highly recommend the Atrium at Cardinal Drive in Agawam, MA for your loved ones with dementia. My twin sister was diagnosed several years ago and I moved her to several other places in Western MA (from her home in NH) until we found the Atrium. What a blessing this place exists!! Allison Baker, Dir. of Community Relations and Exec. Dir. Liz Skerry - Hastings made the process much easier than anticipated! The entire staff are a joy to work with. The nursing staff keeps me updated with her medical issues. And, the activity staff keep her busy most of the day from in-house programming to trips and visits to special places in the area.I can't say enough about the caring and compassionate aides who assist with all of her daily personal needs! They are a godsend! My sister tells me regularly that she loves it there and the people are so nice. And, the food is great! I try to visit regularly and if I can’t we talk on the phone. That phone call (and visit) keeps us connected! I like the idea that the model of care is based on the needs of the resident - from the lowest care needed to the highest care - up to hospice. Most places will only take you if you "fit" their guidelines and then they have to be moved to another site for more care, if needed. We know that my sister is at the right place for her. Your loved ones will thrive at The Atrium at Cardinal Drive, too!

My stepfather Bob had advanced Parkinson’s Disease and dementia, and the care he received at the Atrium was exceptional. As my brother said: they set the bar very high for our expectation of the care they would provide, and then they exceeded our expectations. Bob was treated with kindness and compassion by everyone. The resident care staff really gets to know each of the residents, so they can meet their individual needs. We witnessed this directly with Bob, as they learned his preferences and quirks. Most importantly, they recognized and appreciated the parts of his personality that still shone through. The in-house nursing staff is also terrific. They frequently recommended things to make him more comfortable, like specialized wheelchair pillows, that we wouldn’t have known about otherwise. The neighborhood style set-up of the residence area is unique to what I’ve seen, and it really makes sense. The residents all come together in a central living room area for activities that keep them engaged and entertained. I also saw residents doing familiar things like folding laundry and reading the paper. Finally, I want to mention the care they provided to us: the family. Communication with them was excellent. We could call anytime and check in with someone about how Bob was doing. As he declined and we were spending a lot of time with him, they checked on us often. They thoughtfully brought us carts of beautiful fruit and snacks, and even lunch or dinner on occasion. It was an unexpected kindness, and it made a difficult time a little bit easier for us. If you are looking for memory care for someone you love, I highly recommend the Atrium.

The Atrium is in a great location, beautifully decorated and meets our family's expectations. The initial idea of moving a family member into a memory care community was difficult to work through. Between the sales dept, care staff and activities team we walked out of our initial tour with a clear expectation and relief. The experience has been positive and we now can spend time with our grandmother rather than caring for her.

I am delighted to share our family experience with the Atrium. The facility was our top prospect based on the positive experience of a close friend of Mom's and the feedback from her kids. We looked at another facility, but the neighborhood design of the Atrium was far more welcoming. Since Mom moved in the staff has been amazing, from the nurses to the aides to administration. I hand it to the staff for the enthusiasm with which they approach daily programming for the residents, enhanced with periodic outside entertainers / musicians. I highly recommend the Atrium based on our experience with my 95-year-old mother. Dementia is difficult in so many respects, but it's a relief to feel that Mom is safe and to see that she is happy.

My husband has been at The Atrium for 8 months due to Alzheimer's dementia. The whole setup of the facility is ideal for people who have cognitive issues in that all the rooms open up to a common area; no long hallways to confuse the residents. The activities directors are so skilled in getting people to participate in so many fun activities and keep the residents as happy as possible. Food is excellent and the administration is so helpful in listening to any concerns I have had. I can't imagine a better place to meet assisted living with dementia needs!

We had been looking at a variety of options when it came time to transfer my brother to a memory care facility in our area. The Atrium fit the bill and we have not been disappointed. The staff is always available to answer any questions we may have and is responsive to his needs and our requests. He is well-cared for in a manner that is professional while providing a sense of personal connection. We are very satisfied with the Atrium at Cardinal Drive.

My mother and I placed her sister/my aunt at The Atrium two years ago and have been so comforted by the care she has received. We were looking at many facilities and settled on The Atrium because we felt that they were offering something special. The staff is excellent with communication. We are updated immediately if there are any issues or illnesses on the floor. We also never have to wonder about her care, as the nurses are available to have a 1:1 chat at any point during the week. Their extensive knowledge of how to provide the specific care that dementia patients need -- clinically, emotionally, and physically has answered so many of the questions we were burdened with as family. Finally, and probably most importantly, we were promised that the overall team would care for her as if she were a member of their own family. We can confidently say that we have witnessed that promise come to life on every visit.

My wife said she loves it here in an engaged tone of voice that I had not heard in a while. She likes having a number of people to relate to instead of just me, even though she does not know who any of them are. I am impressed with the caring and loving nature of the staff.

When our Dad had reached the point he couldn’t stay at home on his own any longer, we visited a few places & when we found The Atrium at Cardinal Drive, we knew we had found the perfect home. It truly is a home, sweet, home thanks to the clean, thoughtfully decorated residence as well as the wonderful staff that makes our Dad feel comfortable & loved. I feel they love our Dad just as much as we do!

My mom is in the process of joining The Atrium community from another memory care facility in Westfield. We have researched many of these facilities in the Western MA area before choosing The Atrium. Our experience with Allison Baker has been very positive. She is a very caring, thorough and patient Atrium representative and has made our transition a welcoming one and much less stressful.

Mom moved here to The Atrium a little over a year and 1/2 ago. We moved her here from Stonebrook Village in Windsor Locks. What my family and I would like for you to know is this. If you are looking for a loving, caring, and intelligent staff to look after your loved one, The Atrium at Cardinal Drive is where you want to be. Everyone here has treated our mom and our whole family with the utmost of dignity, love, and kindness. The staff continually throughout the day interact with all of the residents keeping them stimulated and entertained. This is truly our moms home. If she chooses to take a nap on the couch, so be it. If all of the residents are doing a craft and she would rather read the newspaper, no worries. She is free to be happy. Our mom is now at the final stage of her days with us. Beacon Hospice has made this process a peaceful one for us. We have been by moms side for the last 3 days and we can not tell you enough that EVERY staff member, from the Nurses, Aides, Chefs, Maintenance personnel, Cleaning staff and Receptionists have been amazing, loving, and kind. We will miss all of them very much but will carry them in our hearts.

Just to update now that my mother has been at the Atrium for over a year. This place is fabulous! My mother has been kept safe all through the COVID crisis. She is treated with dignity and respect, and so are we. The entire staff is kind, professional, and accessible. If you have a family member with dementia, this is by far the best place in the area for your loved one. We moved my mother to the Atrium when her dementia made it too difficult for her to be in a more traditional assisted living facility. She made an easy adjustment because the staff knew just how to make her feel safe and comfortable. Now she is much less agitated and more at ease than she has been in a long time. The staff is amazing---friendly, warm, helpful, and supportive of my mother and of us.

My mother lived at the Atrium from January - November 2019 and she was cared for in the most professional and loving manner I could imagine. The entire staff is dedicated, compassionate, and very well trained. I did not expect an "institution" to be a good fit for mother, and was not only pleasantly surprised, but really blown-away by how well her needs were met by The Atrium. I can not recommend this place highly enough.

I am very impressed with how caring the staff is with the residents. They are very patient and well trained. You get the feeling that that they not only do their job but also go above and beyond. I have spoken with several and all are very nice people. I am also impressed with the administrative staff, in particular Allison Baker. Admitting a family member is hard. She went out of her way to make it less stressful, is a good listener and empathetic.
