My personal experience was a very wonderful experience from the owner to the staff! My mother was moved there and it was a very difficult decision to make and the one thing I can honestly say is that the staff and the facility is what helped me sleep at night knowing my mother was in the best place and we made the right decision to fit her needs. They answered all of our questions and our concerns and you could feel the love that they give to each resident they are amazing and if I ever would need this facility again I would highly recommend it and would use them again. The staff made a point to get to know each one of us personally and would always keep us up to date on any changes and recommended what the next steps in her care would be. I felt when mother passed away they had so much respect for us and the family that it was so touching and made the experience of losing her to this awful disease with peace and dignity and I am missing all of the residents and the staff as they became our friends and extended family. Yes there are some issues that could be fixed but as you know all health care facility's is a very tough job and it takes very special people to work in this field. I Plan to go back and visit when I am in Overland Park to see everyone and to pay my respects to them. Thank you for taking such great care of my mother!

My husband was in this facility approximately 6-7 months. I have waited 3.5 years to write this review as it has taken me this long to get past my anger about his care there. I now feel an obligation to those considering this facility for their loved one. I will say this, as a whole if you want good consistent care, compassion, knowledgeable workers, enough workers to give quality care etc., I WOULD NOT consider The Heritage of Overland Park! I must say Christina and Sam were very good. In the reviews posted here, some of the employees and the owner spent more time trying to convince you how wonderful they are and/or made excuses for bad reviews but instead they should've spent that time and energy towards proper training, memory care education, insist on compassion from their employees, preparing healthy fresh meals and reasonable rates (which can increase on you month to month). I had several meetings with the owner and leadership team over the 6-7 month stay to voice my displeasure of my husband's care and nothing ever changed. I wasn't able to transfer my husband elsewhere or I would have. I was a healthcare worker for 42 years, I know good care and I know unacceptable/bad care. Best of luck to those trying to find a wonderful facility for your loved one. My heart feels your pain and stress.

My mother in law has been at the Heritage for over 3 years. Yes, there may be less expensive places out there; but the most important factor for me is her well being. The staff truly cares for her and I know without a doubt she is taken care of. It is never easy to see a family member decline, but at least I know she is well cared for.

My mother-in-law Juanita, aka "Queen", was a resident for eight years. To say the leadership was accommodating is an understatement. As I continue to communicate, the worst day at The Heritage (TH) was better than the best day at other facilities we encountered. TH will always have a special place in our hearts! There are not enough positive adjectives to describe our appreciation; we consider TH as part of our family.

Its a small facility , 48 rooms total, that focus on memory care only. Not like the others places that can be bigger and confusing. The staff is very helpful, observant and friendly. The upper management is pretty good too. Expensive but a nice place if you can afford it for your loved one.

The Heritage provides excellent care for my father. He has said to me more than once, They are so nice to me, and They take very good care of me. Knowing that Dad is in such good hands is a great comfort to me. The staff provides personal attention, and I greatly appreciate their communication about how Dad is doing and any concerns that may arise. I also appreciate that the admiistrative staff is very accessible and responsive, and that they really listen to any concerns I have.

The care is good, but prices go up in an inconsistent manner. The food is mostly from a can, which as another person wrote good for some. Personally I prefer fresh food. My family has difficulty eating there with their grandfather. No fresh anything. I prefer to have lunch with my children at mission trail elementary school. They raised our rates and promised a food change, but it appears that didnt change. The people who work there are nice. Sam and Camri genuinely do a good job. The staff cares for him, and he is better for it.

First let me say that I would give this community 5 stars however to me that means The Heritage of Overland Park is perfect, I dont believe anyone is perfect, we are human. I have worked at the Heritage for 4 years in May. I love it. I do not stay because of the pay but if you ask me when you are working in this field, you do it for the love of what you do, that feeling you get when you know that you have enriched someones life whether that means helping get them dressed, or helping them paint a picture, or giving them the opportunity to help someone else. At the Heritage there is compassion. Turn over rate comes and goes, there are Assisted Living facilities popping up EVERYWHERE. What I can say about the Heritage is it is home for both staff and residents. I read below that the food is store bought, well, sure some is. Sometimes we get fish for fish sandwiches that are pre breaded. Sometimes we buy mini pizzas for everyone, but being someone who has served meals 5 days a week for almost 4 years I can honestly say our residents LOVE IT! The kitchen staff makes most everything from scratch. The pot roast they make is fantastic, they do almond crusted fish sometimes which is to die for! We even use recipes that family members of our residents give us and serve meals they have always loved. We do serve 1 entree for meals but that is because we are going for a family atmosphere, when I grew up my mom didnt cook multiple dinners for her kids. Also, ordering off of a menu can be difficult for someone with memory issues...... We used to have a menu. Fortunately residents always have the option to order salad, burgers, chicken fingers, soup just to name a few. If our residents arent eating and staff notices we ask if they want something different. We are constantly looking for ways to connect with our residents whether it is sitting and cheering for Wichita state because a gentleman attended that school, or singing hymns with someone who is anxious to calm them down, creating work for someone who has the need for it. We keep our residents safe! That being said we work with people who have Alzheimers and Dementia. Different forms of dementia may cause hallucinations, most all forms of these diseases cause residents to become agitated whether it is from over stimulation, confusion, or sundowning. We are part of a study in which we promote quality of life vs medication, we get creative we and find ways of calming our residents down in a way that doesnt require psychotropic medications. I have personally spent entire days with a resident who was very agitated trying everything under the sun to settle him. I tried singing to him, playing his favorite music, just sitting in silence, walking him inside and outside, etc. to keep him and everyone else safe. I am not the only staff that does this. We all work together as a team to try and help our residents get through tough moments. Again we are not perfect, every place here and there has faults and we are no different. But we learn, we are thoughtful, we are here now and through the end of life. As I have already said we have compassion.

I am an owner of Heritage of Overland Park and I want to share my thoughts on some of the negative reviews posted. I feel it only right to acknowledge that although reviews are sometimes helpful, they are not always dependable. Negative comments left by individuals-associates who are disgruntled and vindictive are posted with bias and negative intentions. I encourage you to visit our community and talk with our families and staff...youll see and feel the positive difference right away. Thank you for taking the time to get to know the Heritage on your own terms. We are very proud of our community and the services we provide. Thank you.

Love this place great team to work for they are all about loving and caring for their patients
April 2015
My experience with the Heritage of Overland Park has been fantastic! Not only was it a great environment to work in as an employee, but I witnessed the greatness of the facility through the residents. Not only were they well taken care of but through all of the activities they were able to experience, whether it be a bus ride through a Christmas lit neighborhood or a 12 piece swing band for a valentines day dance, there was always something new and exciting to do at The Heritage. Not only were the activities exceptional but the meals were GREAT! There was always something new and DELICIOUS for diner every night! Not only for the residents but for the staff, the dietary staff made sure that everyone was well fed and even gave staff options for meals. This was for every meal, every day. From the perspective of being a staff, I always felt as though I could talk with my team (those on my shift) or management and get a response that i could respect. If ever I had a problem it was always immediately addressed and resolved. this made me feel valued and well taken care of as a staff. I still attend holiday parties and events now that I am employed elsewhere because I very much enjoy the life in the way their facility is run. I had never before worked in a facility like the Heritage. They have a standard of care and expectation of greatness that isnt even comparable to another facility.
