Pam the activity coordinator is always upbeat and positive and provides a variety of activities for the residents. Especially love how she involves the families every Thursday evening with entertainment for everyone!

We've had an excellent experience here. We were hesitant to move my Dad, despite the fact that he needed more assistance than we could provide at home. He didn't want to move, but he was starting to wander off during the day, and it was no longer safe to keep him at home. The past year, he's really thrived. He loves his apartment and Brookdale has a homey feel that makes him feel comfortable. There are lots of activities and he participates daily. The staff is friendly, caring and attentive. They keep a close eye on him medically and are all great in a crisis (he had to go the hospital and they took care of everything). As a caregiver, I felt stressed as my Dad's Alzheimers progressed. I feel relieved to know that he's happy and well supported by a team who really cares.

It's clear that this is more than just a job for the staff”they genuinely care about the residents and work hard to make Brookdale feel like home, not only for those who live there but for their families as well. The administrative team, activities directors, nursing staff, and aides who cared for our father each day consistently went above and beyond. Their kindness, professionalism, and compassion exceeded every expectation we had. My father passed away in January, and the love, support, and compassion they showed our family during that difficult time were truly extraordinary. They were there whenever we needed them and helped us navigate every step of the journey. They became like family to us. Even now, I continue to visit and volunteer on resident outings because of the meaningful connections we formed. I will always be grateful for the care, dignity, and love they gave my father and our family.

My grandpa-in-law, Al, held a very special place in our hearts and in the hearts of so many throughout the Independence community. He was deeply loved by his family, friends, and countless past clients. My wife and I are in real estate, and even today we still run into people who immediately know exactly who Grandpa and Grandma were, simply because of their long-standing local business, Evans Plumbing. That alone says so much about the life they lived and the reputation they built. Grandpa was a businessman at heart and truly understood people and customer service. He was incredibly smart, quick to make friends wherever he went, and always eager to help. During renovations on our properties, it was not uncommon for me to pull up and see his old plumbing truck parked out front early in the morning. He was not contracted to do a thing, yet there he was, working alongside our contractors. They grew to know him well and often told me stories of Grandpa giving advice, questioning a method, or offering insight that only a well-trained, experienced eye like his could provide. That was Grandpa Al. Helpful, curious, engaged, and proud of good work. After retirement, Grandpa’s words slowly began to fade. Communication became harder, and eventually his speech gave way to his familiar expressions, his occasional laughter, and his warm, friendly smile. When he reached the point of needing full-time care, his final home became Brookdale College Square. What we found there truly exceeded our expectations. Every time we visited, Grandpa was involved in something. He attended worship services, participated in crafts, played games, shared meals, and made new friends. It brought us comfort to see him surrounded by community and purpose. We especially loved seeing a TV nearby playing his favorite John Wayne movies, a small detail that meant the world to our family. During Grandpa’s final moments, nurse after nurse came into his room to say their goodbyes. Each one spoke through tears about how he was one of their favorites. Even without words, Grandpa had formed genuine connections and left a lasting impact on their hearts, just as he did everywhere else in his life. Witnessing that was both heartbreaking and incredibly comforting. Thank you to the entire Brookdale College Square team for caring for our loved one with compassion, dignity, and love. You treated him as family during his final days, and that is something we will never forget. This community completely changed my perspective on the stigma often associated with nursing homes. If you are considering a place for your loved one, they will be in wonderful hands here. This is a truly special place with amazing staff and a caring, active community.

You can sure tell how much they love the residents because of their caring attitude toward them when we are there for bible stories and to see what activities they have planned. Brookdale College Square has been a wonderful place for my dad. Choosing a higher level of care has been difficult and the staff here has made it a lot easier. Andrea and Amanda in administration have been amazing and very accommodating. Nate goes out of his way to care for my dad and make sure that he is loved and cared for. One of the best things about Brookdale College Square is the activities. I was very concerned that he would be bored and not have a lot of interaction. The activity director, Pam, and Amber go to great lengths to make sure that all of the residents have engaging, thought-provoking activities and they treat them with such great respect. I don't worry so much about my dad knowing that he is in such a great community.

I still think that most of the staff, especially Pam, are wonderful. They have helped make the difficult journey of Lewy Body Dementia a little bit easier. When my husband became a resident 3 months ago, I was a mess of emotions. Since then, they have treated both of us like family members, and their kindness and compassion have helped to lift our spirits a little more and comfort our hearts. One of my favorite people at Brookdale is Pam. She is an Activities Director Guru who can make the entire room laugh and feel comfortable enough to participate at the same time. She also knows every resident's name, as well as their familes names, and encourages all of us to attend whatever's going on. On one of the first days my husband was there, I remember feeling a little lost. Pam came over and introduced herself. Then, she invited me to join my husband for an upcoming event that she thought he might really enjoy. It touched my heart and gave me a sense of relief to feel like my husband was in a good place. If I could describe Pam, I would say she's a positive ball of energy who is passionate about what she does and gives 110% while she's doing it. The thing that really sets her apart, though, for me, is her natural ability to connect with people. It's such a rare quality to have and is one of the secrets of why she is so amazing at what she does. Several weeks ago, Pam shared with me how she really loves to give each resident a little one on one time to make them feel special. She had just taken my husband outside for a stroll to enjoy a little fresh air and some sunshine. After that, she asked me what some of my husband's favorite hobbies and interests were. The next time I saw her, I brought my husband's guitar for him to play. It's always there now because she volunteered to keep it safe for him so that he could play it anytime he wanted to. Thank you, Brookdale, and especially you, Pam, for all that you do for my husband!

My husband has Lewy Body Dementia and atypical Parkinson's Disease. The staff here is trained to take care of him and I feel like they do it willingly. They make sure he is treated with respect even when he is difficult. I stay with him a good deal of the day because I try to carry on conversations and keep his brain stimulated. I do not have enough wonderful things to say about Brookdale College Square! Making the decision to move my dad to a memory care facility was such a difficult process, and we are so thankful we found this place. My dad receives excellent care, and the care team is always so on top of things, patient with residents (and family members!), and it is clear they are so invested in providing a quality experience for residents. And then there's the activities program! I have heard from other families how other facilities they have been to claim to have an activities program, when it's just putting on a movie for residents and walking away. Not at BCS! The activities program is superb. The director, Pam, is always coming up with creative outlets for residents, whether it's bowling, music, art projects, trivia, bingo - you name it. Families are encouraged to attend events multiple times a week, and participating in these activities has given our family the opportunity to create new, meaningful memories with my dad.

My FIL has lived here for four months now and I have to say that the customer service is wonderful. The director Jacob was very helpful when it came to accommodating my FIL’s transition to memory care. He was gracious enough to furnish my FIL’s room for us since we had to move him in on short notice. Amanda the Wellness Director has been helpful when it comes to coordinating his care. The person I interact with most is Pam the activities coordinator. She is so enthusiastic about creating positive experiences for the residents. She does her best to make sure all who come to the activities participate to the best of their abilities. Our family was very lucky to find out about Brookdale College Square from Erin, Brookdale’s Sales Manager. During a very difficult time when my husband was hospitalized she contacted me and helped arrange his interim placement in a SN/Rehab facility. Prior to our decision to choose College Square, Erin not only gave us information but offered her assistance for anything we needed. Her constant understanding, compassion and good humor made all the difference and made my husband’s move to College Square possible in late May. Since my husband became a resident we have seen first hand the thoughtfulness and patience of numerous staff, most specifically Pam, who along with Amber, directs resident activities. We have come to believe that Pam never sleeps, as she is always thinking about, planning and offering creative activities for the residents. She is a dedicated and caring person in everything she does, and every resident and family member are blessed beyond measure by what she does and by her as a person. It is incredible how she finds out about each resident’s background and interests and incorporates that information in daily activities. She brings such joy and happiness to each person. She planned a lovely anniversary celebration for us and it was so thoughtful of her to honor us in that way. We appreciate her and are so thankful for the opportunities she provides that allow each resident to live fully each day.

My grandma is a resident here and her experience has been so good. Pam, Amber, and the activities team work so hard to provide an excellent quality of life for the residents and memories for families that will last many lifetimes! Every time I visit the residents are engaged in a wide variety of enriching activities such as exercise, trivia, music, and movies. Pam also goes out of her way to plan special events tailored to the interests of the residents throughout their lives. By including the families, we are able to remember the good times we have had with our family. Just recently they had a Harry Potter party (one of my grandma's passions). I was able to share the importance of the books and movies to myself and my cousins and how I've shared them with my daughter. The experience of being known, loved, and cared for has been so amazing for my grandma and also for our family. I can comfortably visit her knowing the staff will be welcoming and helpful in engaging with her and making memories my daughters and I can hold on to for years to come!

My mom was a resident here and I cannot say enough good things about this facility. They are the most caring wonderland people I’ve ever met. The two women Pam and Amber in the activity room make a huge difference in all of the residents life that visit there daily. They plan everything they do to improve or make every residents life more comfortable and happy. They celebrate everyone’s birthday with their family, every holiday, schedule people to come in and play music and everyone sings along that can. I just can’t express how thankful I was with their care. Great job Pam and Amber, I know you two work very hard! I love that their caretakers wake everyone up in the morning and they don’t go back in their rooms until they go to bed at night unless they want to. The residents are always stimulated if possible. The people in the office are very kind to everyone there and everyone visiting also. I’ve heard horror stories about other memory care facilities but you couldn’t choose a better place than Brookdale College Park.

Our sister wanted to live out her days in her hometown of Overland Park, so we had been looking for a progressive care facility when Covid shut everything down. Six months later we moved her into a pretty studio apartment in a progressive care home. Less than two weeks later they literally lost her. She walked out, they didn’t even realize she was gone for hours and then didn’t notify us for several more hours, after they had had to involve the police. Thank God she was located in a local hospital and was safe, but we worked with her attorney to get her out within days. It was a terrifying experience, but became a blessing. We found Brookdale College Square and they allowed us (masked) to tour their facility and meet their staff, who have longevity and compassion, both critical components of memory care we have learned. The facility is a bit dated and her room is much smaller, but the care she receives is far better, she is taken care of much more personally and she has access to the entire facility. They had just had a room open up and worked diligently with us to get her moved in within a few days. We felt blessed and grateful and still are. I am older than she, live 800 miles away and have serious health issues so it’s been comforting to know she’s being cared for so compassionately. The management staff works well with my brother and me, ensures that he can visit often and even FaceTimed me so I could visit with her when they had to shut down. I highly recommend this facility because of their staff and the openness of the facility.

My mom has been a resident at Brookdale College Square for 3 years. We have been very happy with her care. Communication about her medical, physical and emotional needs is very good. The directors (Jessica, and Willy) and wellness coordinator (Amanda) are always available and respond immediately to any concern I have. The activity directors (Pam and Amber, with Taylor), are the best I have ever seen. They do so much to stimulate the minds of their residents. The activity team treats all residents with respect and really gets to know them and their past lives. As hard as it has been to watch my mom decline with Alzheimer’s, I feel she is in the best place to live her last years. I feel blessed to have found Brookdale College Square, and would recommend it to anyone whose loved one needs memory care.

Brookdale College Square has been very good for my 94 year old mother. We tried home health care and she was becoming more fearful over time. Her confusion was getting worse and she was losing weight. Since moving into Brookdale College Square she is happier, less confused, and has gained weight. The staff at BCS is caring and well trained. They truly seem to care. There are a number of activities to engage in and the facilities are nice. While still expensive the cost is more reasonable than a great many memory care units. I believe my Mom will live longer, and certainly happier since we moved her into BCS. 2021 Update. My Mother passed away the 21st of January. The wonderful people of College Square took superb care of her until the end through some very difficult times. Her doctor gave 6-9 months to live when she came to Brookdale and she lived almost another three years. My friends at Brookdale took care of me too, passing me information, and making sure I knew Mom was safe. I would name names of great folks but I would forget some so I will keep them in my heart. There may be better memory care facilities, but I don't know how you could improve on BCS.

My husband was diagnosed with Frontal Temporal Dementia and Early Onset Alzheimer’s dementia when he was 53 yrs old. He has declined rapidly, as younger patients do. My husband is a tough case and when he became too violent at home, I had to find a place for him immediately. It was extremely difficult given his behavior and age. I found Brookdale College Square and I thank God every day that he is there. The staff is great and they have a rapport with patients and family members that is effortless and genuine. Dementia is a horrible disease but knowing that my husband is safe and cared for at Brookdale, well, there is no price one could put on that comfort and peace of mind. I highly recommend the facility! It is as good as it gets.

From the first day I toured Brookdale, I knew this was the place we needed for my grandmother. Everyone is so helpful and friendly and they truly care about the residents. The biggest thing we worried about was that my grandmother would be alone in her room or not have much to do, but that is never ever the case thanks to Pamela and Amber. They go above and beyond everyday to make sure there are activities geared towards the residents' interests and abilities. They make sure the residents feel like they have a purpose and something to look forward to daily. We love Pam and Amber and all they do for their residents!

When the time came to find a place for my mom that would better fit her needs, I was so fortunate that her previous home was an assisted living apartment within the Brookdale system. Her move to College Square was urgent. From the moment of first contact Arlin and his staff were amazing and Mother settled in so easily. It was evident that their care is based on respect, kindness and a genuine love of their fellow humans. I am continually amazed with the way the entire staff interacts with the residents, especially Activity Coodinator, Pam Luna. This incredible lady is always giving 110% to the residents with whom she works. She is quick to draw everyone into activities and always has an amazing array of things to do! Daily activities are well planned and impressively interactive. Regardless of how hectic things become, she is methodical, calming and efficient. You can tell she loves her work.

The activities director Pamela Luna and her team, Amber and Taylor are the best!!! My Mother’s days are filled with activities she can go to that help her mentally and physically at Brookdale. I also enjoy seeing her at the ones that make her feel at home, like cooking and gardening.

A group from our church, St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church, Overland Park, comes to Brookdale to provide worship services. We come on the 1st, 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month. We greet and visit with each resident, sing songs- those embedded in the hearts of residents during their years of worship, pray the Lord's Prayer together, read Bible verses, talk about what we learn from those Bible readings, and we offer Communion to all who wish to receive. We've been coming since April, 2018. During that time we've observed and have come to appreciate Pam Luna and Amber. They treat all residents with patience and kindness- anticipating situations and redirecting with gentleness and firmness when necessary. Pam and Amber are very creative and continually look for opportunities to enhance the lives of residents. We've attended several evening events at Brookdale and a few members of our congregation have even provided some music for the evening events. Brookdale College Square provides a safe environment and Pam and Amber enrich the lives of all the residents.

Having visited a great many senior living facilities, I was very impressed with Brookdale College Park. I am especially impressed with Pamela Luna and Amber both of whom demonstrate that they really care about the people who are housed at Brookdale and the quality of life those people have. I wish the facility where my sister is a resident in another State had an Activities Director as creative and much fun as Pamela. I truly believe she and Amber both do an exceptional job. Brookdale is fortunate to have two women that do such a fine job representing the facility. They really seem to go above and beyond what would normally be expected.

I am so thankful for Brookdale College Square. We moved my husband in June to Brookdale. I have been very impressed with both the facility and the staff. I have not met a single person here who lacks enthusiasm and care for the patients and the job they are doing. Everyone has been absolutely wonderful to me and to my husband. I was so impressed by the design of the facility. They really understand Alzheimer’s! His first day here, my husband sat down at a desk with a typewriter, picked up the phone, and thought he was back to work as a newspaper reporter. It takes a special person with an abundance of patience to work with Alzheimer’s patients. I visit my husband every day . I have found the staff to be so helpful, so respectful, and so wonderful to all the patients here.

My grandmother has been at Brookdale College square for just over 11 months, and in that time she has blossomed. When I visit, I'm struck by the patience and friendliness of the staff, and their knowledge of and commitment to handling memory care with validation and redirection are outstanding. Residents come together for a rich range of community-wide activities, but the smaller "streets" where the private rooms and family-style dining rooms are located seem to provide my grandmother with an additional sense of comfort and a space of her own. The staff are excellent at communicating with family, and I appreciate receiving regular email updates. Both the management and nursing staff are quick to address any questions in a helpful and thoughtful manner, and the facility itself is impeccably maintained. After my grandmother's Late-onset Alzheimer's and Dementia diagnosis in January 2017, we were frustrated by the sometimes inconsiderate care that she received at traditional assisted living and skilled nursing facilities that were not well versed in compassionate memory care. She showed significant signs of depression and, after an extensive search for a better place for her, finding Brookdale was a blessing. Upon her arrival, the staff held a welcome party inspired by her former career as a nurse, and the smile on her face was absolutely priceless. Those smiles are now far more frequent than they've been in a very long time. As my grandmother's only close family member and caretaker, I'm so grateful to have found a home where she feels comfortable and validated, supported by a warm and knowledgeable staff that I can trust.

I’ve been bringing my collie for pet visits with the Activities coordinators for going on 5 years now. Amber and Pam always seem to have a wide variety of activities and keep the residents busy. They go out of their way to include everyone who can participate. They have very compassionate personalities with great senses of humor! I can say from personal experience with my own mom (out of state) and my father-in-law in a couple of assisted living facilities (plus I worked in a care center years ago and have volunteered in many over the years) - very few facilities offer such a wide variety of experiences. They do an exceptional job in this department!

During the last three years we have struggled to find the perfect place for our father to live. We started in an assisted living facility where he received another residents medication. He ended up in the hospital and it took a few weeks to get him back on track. We moved him to another facility where he struggled to thrive because he was beyond their scope of care. While at that facility he ended up in a psychiatric unit twice for "behavior" issues. He then fell and broke his hip. After 45 days in a rehab facility we were told we had three days to find a permanent facility for him. With the help of Care Patrol, a placement organization, we were introduced to Brookdale College Square. The minute we stepped foot in the door we were very impressed. The entire staff was amazing. They did their assessment of daddy and determined they could care for him. Because we were on a short time for moving they were unbelievably accommodating. The staff at Brookdale arranged everything for daddy's transfer to the facility. The love and care our father receives has allowed us to be less stressed about his care. We do not lay awake and night worrying and wondering if the phone is going to ring and we have an issue with daddy. Since our father moved into Brookdale June of 2016 we have yet to visit and find him in his room. The medical staff has been able to get him off all of the medications he was prescribed for his "behaviors" and daddy is like a new man. He participates in activities and loves the staff. Daddy seems very content with his living conditions, because he can't always verbalize his feelings, we feel confident that he is receiving excellent care. I would highly recommend this facility to any family wanting a place for their loved one to live that feels like home. Brookdale College Square is an outstanding place full of outstanding people who truly love what they do!
