We moved my 96 year old grandma here in early December, 2022. That first week, we all noticed a bad smell in the entryway, & honestly, I was like, "Oh no! Is it gonna be a stinky, dirty place?!" It absolutely IS NOT that kind of place! The carpet in the entryway had something spilled on it that was smelly, they had it cleaned & the smell was gone! My grandma has dementia & sometimes forgets she lives there now. Then she gets a little panick stricken. The staff members understand this & are very patient & kind, assuring her she's ok until it passes. I'm there quite often & the staff seemed stand-offish, at first. I wasn't sure what to think. Now I see they are being respectful of the time you are spending with your loved one by by not interfering. When I have questions I ask & everyone is more than happy to assist. My grandma is happy, well cared for & safe at The Piper.

My mother has been here for a little over six months now and we have been quite impressed with the entire facility. She absolutely loves her apartment and it is kept very clean. She loves the staff and they seem very attentive toward her. They oversee her medications and make sure she is reminded of meals and activities. she has enjoyed the many activities and the new friends that she’s made. She has commented that she feels safe here. I would have no reservations recommending The Piper to your family member.

The Piper tends to all my mothers needs, and then some. She looks forward to the daily activities provided and is doing more since she’s been there than in the past 5+ years. She is happy and content in her apartment and loves the dining room atmosphere with others. She has many cnas, cmas and nurses that she has developed a relationship with. I have no worries when I am out of town as I know she’s in good hands. We appreciate everything they do.

My father has lived here for almost 5 years. They’ve always cared for him very well and treated him like family. When my mother passed away, he stayed with my sister for a few days, then asked to return “home.” He likes The Piper and the people who care for him.

This is a beautiful facility and can feel very homey. However, Ive been staying here with my sister the past 4 days and have seen signs of employee staffing changes, lots of new staff or understaffed, as well as overworked staff who are willing to help take up the slack. That has led to great concern. Transfer of information for patient needs is non-existent from one shift to another. Theyve either been ignored or the shift change who was willing to fill in did not get the proper instructions that were left by the previous nurse. Lots of new staff seems to indicate dissatisfied workers. Maybe its lack of pay or maybe they are required to work in positions they were not hired for. Thats too bad given your beautiful facility. In my opinion, you could be rated the number one place to move to if a few minor changes were made.

We looked at a lot of different facilities for my mom in the dotte and this was the best. It has been hard on her to leave her home of 35 years but everyone has been really nice to her. They reply quickly when you havea questions and go above and beyond to make her happy (which is tough!) I feel good knowing my mom is in a safe place and they help with showers when she needs it. The place itself looks homey so mom likes that too!

Weve worked side-by-side with the team at The Piper and can honestly say this is the most professional, caring group of people weve ever worked with. If you are searching for Kansas City assisted living facilities or memory care support in Kansas City you must put The Piper on your short list of places to tour for your senior loved one. The team is experienced, the facility is easily the best of its kind, and their unique Household Model is the reason you will end up selecting them.

My favorite aspect of The Piper is the small households. Allows for staff, residents and families to truly get to know one another. To be known and seen as an individual is so important in this setting. We all have different ways and preferences and this doesnt change just because we age! The Piper makes a genuine effort to meet each individual residents preferences and interests.

As a former employee working for The Piper Assisted Living, I have had an enjoyable experience. What made it enjoyable was utilizing obtained skills such as cooking breakfast ab-lid, attending to laundry and performing housekeeping duties; most importantly it was providing genuine care to residents that mattered the most. Why I recommend you as a CNA, CMA or ETC. to apply consist of growing opportunities. You can establish leadership among others and build positive professional relationships. Its more than just an employment there, staff are counting on individuals like you to be the greatest you and become apart of their team because you have special qualities to impact residents lives making them and your environment remarkable.

My mom moved here a couple months ago and it has been a lifesaver for our family. She needed a safe place, meals, help with her medicines and someone to keep an eye on her. The Piper has provided that and more. Really happy with the staff and how made her feel welcome. I was finally able to take a vacation and not worry about mom!!

Wonderful place to work.. I love my co-workers and our residents. It is a great place for seniors to live and everyone, including many residents, so what they can to make everyone feel welcome. It's a beautiful place and to be honest, the first place Ive worked in many many years where I do not get up in the morning dreading the day ahead.

The overall facility is beautiful and the residents at the facility were very nice. I am an LPN and was there not even a week and knew it was not the place for me nor my license. I did not feel comfortable being the only nurse in charge of 5 different households and they tried to throw me out on my own before my third day of even training. The nurse Gloria training would get mad when I would help out the CNAs but thats part of my job as far as Im concerned and most of the time when they would ask for help they truly needed it. It could be a wonderful place but the DON and the nurse Gloria are the best of friends and just do things their way. Multiple staff members told me that Gloria was good at running staff members off and its not that she ran me off I just didnt feel comfortable with the way things were ran there. They have med aides but their meds are in each residents room and there is no way to document whether the med was really given or not. Most places have a scanner where you have to scan the packs with the med in them. All this place had was the meds on point click Care in which anyone could sign them out even if they werent given. They had a problem with this the short time I was there where meds werent given but were being signed out. Like I said this place is newer and has a lot of potential but needs to be ran better. Those people pay way to much money to live there to not receive the little care they need. I think there should be a nurse overseeing each household. When someone would fall, we would be on the 3rd floor and they would just call and let us know. I think for reasons like that there should be a nurse on each floor. The way they staff also really wasnt fair. The nurse Gloria got every weekend off but every other nurse was expected to work every other weekend and I just think things should be fair and equal when it comes to staffing to avoid issues. Their CNAs were really good and you could tell they were compassionate caregivers. Its just impossible though for one nurse to try and care for over 50 people in one shift. Something or something is going to get missed. Theyre med aides also were in charge of whole households instead of splitting each household between two med aides. Its just too much work theyre trying to put on one person and then they wonder why there was 10 falls a day and medication errors, etc. You have to look at the whole big picture. These places want to charge people an arm and a leg but dont want to make sure they have the staff there to give them the care they deserve. The healthcare industry truly has got to quit being so cheap and really care about these people instead of money all the time. I get you need money to make things happen but my goodness it shouldnt be determine whether or not someone gets good care or not. As I stated this is a newer facility only been open 3 years, they have a lot of potential but they need to make some changes for sure! Also they call themselves an assisted living place meaning caregivers shouldnt have to do as much for the residents as in the normal nursing home but they do accept more than just assisted level people and then they dont have the amount of staff needed to care for those certain individuals.

First, I should offer some full disclosure. Our company, Love & Company, works with The Piper. That being said, the person-centered approach The Piper is bringing to assisted living and memory care in Kansas City is truly groundbreaking. I have worked in senior housing for 25+ years now, and if my parents were still alive and needed either assisted living or memory care, I'd be looking for something like this. Yes, the new buildings are beautiful but it's their approach to care that is truly what separates this community.
