Almost seven years ago, my mother-in-law became a resident of Aviva, Merrillville. The entire staff could not have been more helpful, understanding, and caring. They guided us, counseled us, and helped us with her residency. During the years we have encountered many different issues. In each incident the staff was open and helpful. They treat my mother-in-law as if she was their mother. We could not be more comfortable with the care my mother-in-law receives. If your loved one suffers from any form of dementia, I highly recommend Aviva, Merrillville.

I went to this facility unannounced and I was pleasantly surprised how clean the grounds and inside the building is. Then I met the staff. I was greeted by a super nice and bubbly young lady named Jackie. She brought me right in to meet the Executive Director Meriam. She was very knowledgeable about the care my mom would need and brought me on a tour right there and then. Was such a great experience and put my mind at ease that my mom would be properly cared for. AVIVA is the place for my mom, can’t wait to move her in. Thank you Jackie and Meriam for your kindness and understanding the help I need for mom.

Jackie at the front desk is the best! She is very welcoming and great with the family and residents. I also love the activities director Thomas. Love the interaction and activities he provides. Great executive director, and director of nursing. Overall, I’ve been pleased with the staff providing care for my mom.

Aviva in Merrillville Indiana was a fabulous place up until about a year ago. So much turnover and inconsistency from the administration and some aides this past year. I’ve never met more rude and condescending people in charge. There are some amazing nurses and aides that take pride in their jobs and go above and beyond but then you have so many who do the absolute minimal and are offended when a concern is brought to their attention. You get mostly lip service from the 2 in charge. I’ve been talked to with such disrespect by them for complaining about valid concerns regarding resident on resident abuse and neglect regarding my dad. The retaliation after complaints were made was alarming. I was told videos I have to back my complaints were actually the opposite of what is on them. Angie and her dining staff were amazing. Friendly and respectful to all the residents and their families. The activities director Thomas along with Autumn and Nancy also went above and beyond to interact with residents and their families. They truly are special people. Transitions hospice were fabulous. Each and every member of their team were professional and caring. Cannot say enough good things about them.

My sweet mom was a resident at Aviva for 4.5 years. In that time, she was well taken care of and felt safe and comfortable. All the staff are kind and compassionate: the director, Meriam; the office manager, Shelly, the director of nursing, Latasha; food service manager, Angie; the maintenance manager, Rickey, the activities department, Thomas and Autumn and the nurses, meds distribution and CNAs all worked with me to help keep Mom healthy, safe and content. Many of the staff went above and beyond what you would expect to make such a difficult time in Mom’s life as pleasant as possible. The building is beautiful and clean and always decorated for special days and the food is delicious. The staff organizes special party days for the families to celebrate with their loved ones. The Thanksgiving dinner was a favorite and so special. The staff at Aviva became my friends and I will hold them close in my heartalways.

Aviva Merrillville provided a great environment for my Dad when his care needs exceeded what we could handle at home. The staff treated him like family and their administrative processes made the ongoing efforts of care and communication very smooth and sustainable. When we visited this place, it was clean and smelled so nice. The activity department does so much to keep their people engaged and happy. With memory issues, it can be hard but the staff do such a good job. Thomas in Life Enrichment is the best, he makes sure everyone feels special and loved. I would suggest this place to anyone that is looking for a memory care place. Very clean.

Very nice welcoming community for individuals who have Dementia. Staff is very caring and dedicated to each individual resident needs. I love the fact that each month the staff personally recognizes their resident’s individual birthday and of course with a nice big cake of the resident flavor of choice! 🙂

I came from a nursing home setting where residents were often overlooked and not cared for properly. That is not the case at Journey. When I came here it was so nice to see every staff member, up to the Executive Director, show genuine care for each resident. The environmental staff do an excellent job of making sure the building is always clean. I would highly recommend sending a loved one here.

This is one of the best and most special places I have been to dealing with nursing homes. I must say they don't get enough credit for a they really do. The workers there are super great & they really care & do their very best. They build relationships with their people and sometimes care more then others do even their family included! If I could give then more then 5 stars I most definitely would because their one of a kind & they do their jobs right! Make sure you check them out & give them a try you would be so happy you did & feel a little peace of mind as well knowing their going to be taken very well care of and looked after also. 🙂

I have been visiting there for 2 months now with my pig and every time we go I am impressed with how everything looks and is run. The staff is always friendly not only to us but the residents and they are doing an amazing job. I have visited several similar places and this is definitely one of my favorites. You can tell they go above and beyond and really care about the residents.

Started out great. Eventually had problems with brother in law wandering into other residents rooms. Journey made it a high priority to get him transferred after a total of 4 weeks and ended up keeping his entire deposit over $1000 for "damages". Never got a list of damages or got paperwork saying why he was being transferred as requested. No recourse per attorney so read the fine print. Also, CNA's constantly talking or on their phones. Seems this facility prefers wheel chair bound patients that don't require much attention.
