I have been a resident since 2018 and have seen the good, bad and ugly in managing property for senior residents. The latest policy on permit parking and car towing has to be one of the worst yet. My family and friends are from Illinois and often drive down to visit. They often stay at least one night. My daughter drove in on a Thursday night after 9 pm. and parked in an area that was not clearly marked for permit parking only. (I have several photos of the area that clearly show no signs indicating Permit Only in that area.) Indy Towing Service towed her car before 6 am on Friday. Residents have reported this company often comes through at 11 pm. which shows how uncaring you are to allow this unscrupulous company to benefit from your senior residents, their family, friends and caregivers. We had to borrow a neighbor's car to drive 20 minutes to retrieve the car. The system at the towing company is so disorganized, it took over 40 minutes to find, identify and drive off the lot. I recommend: 1) CLEARLY designated areas for visitors - especially at night or inclimate weather. 2) Visitor passes given to residents for visiting friends and neighbors. 3) Towing only during the day; warning labels at night - especially for out of state license plates. SINCE THIS WAS KITTLE NEGLIGENCE AND USE OF AN ABUSIVE TOWING COMPANY, I AM REQUESTING A REFUND OF $175 for TOW #4343.

Ms. Allison is very professional and efficient. She was very understanding with my situation and made the application process smooth and easy. She genuinely cares about the residents and their well being. I look forward to my father's new start here.

My mother has lived in this complex for 3 years...In that time, management has become a joke. Locked office doors, residents can't sit in lobby area, maintenance is non existent. She's had a-clogged sink for 2 weeks, light bulb outside door out for months..., screen on patio is broken as well...Trash removal is-a joke, with a volunteer resident removing all trash for residents on either Thursday or Sunday...so they have to keep bags in their apartment till then if they can't walk to the dumpster. Movie theater hasn't been operational since before covid...Furnace filter not changed in forever, dishwasher is the worst and doesn't clean. Thinking it's about time to find a new home for her.

After living here another year since my last review there are only two or three good things I can say about Nora Commons. 1. There are plenty of activities if you are so inclined. 2. There are in-apartment W/D hookups and walk-in showers, both a plus compared to many other places. 3. Our Activities Director, Mary London, is a phenomenal human being, the one person here who truly cares about us. She tries her best to help us with our problems but in many cases her hands are tied. She does the work of three people. As for the negatives: 1. My screen windows that were defective or damaged over a year ago still have not been fixed/replaced. 2. Residents have been banned from sitting in the lobby to visit with each other or wait for the mail. 3. Locked entry is a joke when doors are left propped open so that anyone can come in--not safe at all. 4. Strangers have been found wandering the building, knocking on doors, even sleeping on furniture in public areas. 5. Dogs are frequently causing messes in corridors and elevators, owners not cleaning up, threatened with fines or evictions that seldom happen. 6. Maintenance has become almost non-existent--one person to handle 200+ residents' work orders. Maybe Mr. Kittle needs to dig into his deep pockets to pay staff a living wage. 7. Several predatory companies have set up shop for an afternoon or two in our cafe with the purpose of scamming our senior residents out of their often meager savings, offering cheap trinkets and empty promises in exchange for life insurance policies, prescription plans, free cell phones, and more. They mislead and lie in order to sign people up, with Nora Commons management's blessings. I could go on but why belabor the point? The point being, Nora Commons on the Monon, once a great place, has sadly regressed further and further.

My great aunt has lived at Nora for a few years now and she is always so happy with her home and says the office staff are the best and always willing to assist.
December 2022
Very poor maintenance, things never get fixed or replaced. There is only one restroom for residents and it is on the first floor. The place is poorly ran and the office manager seems to not care about the residents problems or their well being. I hear complaints from most residents. My advise is to look elsewhere. The rent is raised two-five hundred every year. There are about 15 mail boxes hanging open from people who have moved out because they have raised their rent so high that they could no longer afford to stay. One resident complained to the assistant manager and her response was "So fuckin sue us" That's how much they care. The only nice one is Mary London, head of activities. By the way they only print good reviews, so you probably won't get to read this.

I notice that all the positive reviews are more than 2 years old. Recent ones are 1 star, with good reason. This place has gone seriously downhill in the 2 years I've lived here. The biggest culprit responsible seems to be Covid-19, which has affected all of us in negative ways. Our apartments cannot get any maintenance done due to shortages, delayed deliveries, maintenance people getting sick, etc.. My kitchen light has been out for 9 months. Both my screens are broken, and others have it even worse. Staff is doing the best it can with the resources available. We do have an incredible bunch of people working here. They care about our needs and strive to make us comfortable. The apartments themselves are nicer than any I've lived in. Throw in all the activities and you have a great place for seniors to live.
