Kayla and Teresa and staff were exceptionally kind, patient, and knowledgeable! We are sold that this Sunrise stands out as a great option. Waiting on my mom s decision and look forward to seeing my mom find a wonderful home. Kayla in particular was unbelievable. She even made cookies for my mom. Truly an answer to prayer. Thank you Sunrise for such a great visit!

My mom has lived at Sunrise of Willowbrook for almost 9 months now and I can honestly say she is really happy with assisted living. She enjoys the many activities they offer, especially the morning exercise class and occasional outings they do. She even went to Drury Lane for a show this month which I know she enjoyed. She has made friends here, is treated lovingly and respectfully by all the staff, and has no complaints about the food. Excellent communication with all management and nursing here and I am so glad we found this place. Mom agrees it's much better than staying in her condo and trying to get assistance to her daily. We've enjoyed the family bingo nights too! Great place for seniors to live and be cared for.

If looking for a senior living for one of your loved ones, look no further. Sunrise is not the cheapest but also not the most expensive living facility. Sunrise is extremely clean inside and through the outside grounds. People are very professional and extremely concerned with you and your loved ones needs. I am so happy we went with Sunrise of Willowbrook. Thank you both Kayla and Yennifer you both are awesome. "John Price"

My name is Jeffrey. My mother, Lou, has been a resident at Sunrise of Willowbrook since October of 2021. Stephanie was the representative who introduced me to the property. I visited several other properties prior to choosing Sunrise of Willowbrook and no other marketing personnel was as informative or as knowledgeable as Stephanie. The feeling of comfort is what made me choose Sunrise of Willowbrook for my mother. At that time, my mother was in the earlier stages of dementia and resided in another independent living. That changed when she went from being ambulatory to wheelchair-bound and her cognitive state deteriorated drastically from staff negligence. After 6 weeks in rehab, I thought she could return to her apartment with care throughout the day however, within days, I found out that I was incorrect. I went into panic mode after my mother fell out of her bed at night. I knew then that I had to move her. The first person I thought to call was Stephanie and she returned my call as soon as she heard my frantic message. She let me know with whom I would need to speak. Even though it was not her responsibility, she gave me a great deal of information so that I could be prepared to move my mother to Sunrise of Willowbrook. I believe that Stephanie’s compassion and understanding is because she has been through the long, sad journey of dementia with several other residents. I appreciate her sharing all of the stories with me but unfortunately, it’s the same story with a different person. I also appreciate that whenever I see Stephanie in the hallways, we are greeted by name, with a smile. It’s amazing how much the little things mean when you are going through life’s transitions. My mother is now in memory care at the Sunrise of Willowbrook and doing very well with excellent care. I am at peace that she is safe and being cared for when I am not there. I apologize for the length of this. However, I feel that, in this day of so much negativity, it is necessary to share positive experiences whenever possible, especially when good comes from bad.

I have been a Sunrise team member for almost 15 years! The care team and staff are truely one of a kind! I can honestly say each resident is treated like they are our own family!
January 2023
My mom was a resident of Sunrise of Willowbrook for her Stage 6 and eventually Stage 7, (end of life care), from January 2022 to May of 2023, when she passed. She was cared for on the third floor. She also had an outside Hospice agency from July 2022-May 2023. In general, Jennifer at the front desk is warm and caring. Kind and respectful of guests, family members and loved ones entering the building. It's a genuine touch to the overall cozy "Hallmark" look and feel of the building. Large chairs, plants, tables, books and nesting areas are all welcomed for use. It was truly a blessing to have those available for us at the end of my mom's life when you're at the facility for 8+ hours. I cannot speak for the Assisted Living sections, but the actual Alzheimer's floor is everything you really would want your loved one to have access to. Clean, spacious, private "reflection room," in the main common area filled with books and where you can gather your thoughts. Beautiful outdoor deck during the warmer months, (locked and secured during Winter/very early Spring). There is a very large common area with a TV, baby doll and stuffed dog. Kitchen is well maintained; mopped frequently, those who need to be hand-fed are usually first and/or last, based the staff's bandwidth. You are allowed to sit as long as you please - masks required when noted. If your loved one is still able, there are field trips to local fast food chains like Portillo's and Culivars. (Staff will advise when your LO is no longer safely able to go out). Routine care is evident. Multiple staff members on the floor at all times - at least 2-3 with Nurse always on hand. Hinsdale Hospital for point of reference if needed; Washing and drying of clothes for the residents is performed on a regular basis, along with notifying family members when daily necessities are running low if not provided by Hospice. Monthly wellness check-ins are conducted over the phone or in-person. Each resident will have their own individualized care package on medication, bathing, etc. Residents are changed frequently and/or immediately if accident occurs or diaper is worn. Never concerns of bed bugs, etc. Rooms are either private or shared. My mom had a shared room and it was okay given how advanced she was, but for those who are not "as" advanced, (more stage 4-5), or who just need more privacy, I would opt for that if available. During the last week of my mom's transition, staff was above and beyond caring/considerate/thoughtful and handled everything as well as I could have hoped given the severity of the disease. 4/5 Stars for a few reasons: There were some ADMIN issues in the beginning regarding billing which were incorrect, in addition to some the monthly wellness checks, (not correct), at the end. Both were brought to staffs attention. Finally, some of the sores on my moms elbow could have been handled a little better, but again, was noted and talked with Nursing staff. Overall, I would 100% recommend this facility to anyone that is need of care for middle, late, advanced, or end of life for Alzheimer's/Dementia care. We couldn't have asked for anything better given the situation of our family.

Sunrise has lovely facilities and many nice staff, but the lack of care they provided for our dad was inexcusable on multiple levels. On a relatively minor level, Sunrise failed to provide countless activities they listed on their recreation schedule. It was sad to see residents waiting long periods of time for activities Sunrise failed to provide. Sunrise determined that our dad needed assistance with changing clothes and shaving and charged a daily fee to provide this assistance. During the 7 months the services were probably not provided on at least 50% of the days. When inquiring of the care manager why the services were not being delivered, he offered ridiculous excuses such as our dad may be putting back on the exact same dirty clothes and the female staff must not know how to use an electric razor so he’d have to train them. Even the director laughed behind his back regarding his explanation for why his undergarments weren’t being changed. Even though the lack of care was obvious and acknowledged by the director, a refund was never offered and never provided despite many requests. But by far, what is most alarming and hard to live with, is that Sunrise medical staff made a medication change that was seemingly beyond their expertise and then they failed to provide the obvious, easy, and basic follow-up monitoring necessary. During the inexcusable weeks of not monitoring and missing the obvious signs of a failed medication change, he went from a stable to an unstable condition which he never recovered from and it led to the loss of his life. Beyond wishing we didn’t trust Sunrise with our father’s care, our lessons to share include: Do not trust physician care to “assembly line doctors.” This is a term we learned from a Sunrise nurse and refers to doctors who rapidly sign off on orders based on nurses observations and recommendations with barely if at all observing or interacting with patients. It seems probable assembly line doctors are some of the least talented and caring doctors available and certainly not specialists in countless areas of medicine. We suggest having an outside medical professional for your loved one and having any/all medical decisions made/recommended by Sunrise reviewed by outside professionals. Another lesson, as cited by another reviewer, is not to trust the director when she offers response dates. She didn’t respond typically or fix problems even though she was likable and acknowledged lack of adequate care. Being a calm and understanding family was ineffective for our father’s care and services. Lesson learned: we should have demonstrated outrage for the lack of basic care and services and being overcharged. Our patience, tolerance, optimism improvements will occur, and not wanting to offend increased the chances or enabled this ultimately unprofessional and seemingly understaffed facility to not serve our father well.

My sister lives at Sunrise due to having dementia and type 1 diabetes. She receives extremely good care from the staff who all know and love her, but something's are slipping. Hot water is not on demand. She took a shower the other day only to be showered with cold water instead of hot. I know the need to regulate temperatures to avoid scalding, but to go from warm to cold to lukewarm to cold water in a matter of seconds is unacceptable. Also we have asked for a snack to available to her in case her blood sugar drops, which it does frequently. I found a stale sandwich, cheese, in her fridge that was placed there three days before. I was there when the aide brought it in at my request. They are also to have glucose packs or tabs, and orange juice or milk available to her on her floor at all times to help get her blood sugar up when it's low. That was not available, again, yesterday. My sister and I were there when her levels dropped sharply and no one knew what to do exceptyself and sister. I respect what they do on a daily basis with these residents, but we pay extra for supposed extra help with her care, medical and physical. Is it too much to ask that every residents need be addressed in a timely manner so we do we don't receive a call to say she's back in the hospital? If they cannot deal with her medical needs they need to say so. We have addressed these concerns with the director and staff and all we get is "it will be looked into". And yes, a family member is there several times a week, and she is still able to use her cellphone to call us. My concern is for all the residents who should not feel neglected because money talks louder than actions. I know that every facility is short staffed and struggling to keep up, but it shouldn't be at the expense of those who can't speak for themselves.

My mother has been a resident at Sunrise of Willowbrook for a couple of years, having started in assisted living and then later moving to the 3rd floor memory care unit. Our family has been extremely pleased with her care. The environment is clean and well-maintained, and the residents are kept active with stimulating activities. The admissions staff was so helpful, kind and reassuring during the initial process, even helping my mom find a wonderful doctor locally. I agonized over the decision to place my mom in assisted living, and explored caregiving at home as an option, but we are very glad we decided on Sunrise of Willowbrook. She could never get this level of stimulation and socialization at home. My mother is able to receive her medical and dental care on site, can even get her hair done, which relieves our stress level and burden as a family. We absolutely lover her activity therapist who is incredibly warm and takes a personal interest in the residents. The nursing staff keeps me informed of any issues, which a truly appreciate. I could not recommend Sunrise of Willowbrook more highly.

My dad is currently at Sunrise - has been there just over a year now. He has adapted very well to living there. It's never an easy decision when your parent has to be moved out of their own home. Luckily, the staff at Sunrise have been so welcoming, and while there are always things that could be done better, etc., for the most part my father has settled in very well. The Executive Director position has recently turned over, but possibly for the better. I'm grateful my dad is at Sunrise - the staff there work very hard to insure the well-being of their residents.

Sunrise Willowbrook has given care to 2 of my family members in the past 13 years. The care has always been very good, and understanding. The Alzheimers care has been outstanding, with a staff that is responsive and compassionate. This is a good place to trust with your loved one when they are in this difficult situation.

My Aunt and my mother both lived at Sunrise of Willowbrook for many years. I've lost them both now, but I'm really happy that they were able to have so much fun in their last years. My Aunt had a lot of serious medical problems, and they were the only assisted living that were able to take care of her, so the whole family was happy that the two of them could live in the same community. And the food is great! They have lots of family parties with nice buffets and performers and it's a very fun, very comfortable place. I did buy a long term care policy recently so I'm covered for assisted living now, too! The staff is very nice and very well trained, much better than than nursing home my mother lived at first. I'd reccomend them to anyone for sure.
