I am a Nurse Practitioner who provides primary care to many of the residents at Northbrook Inn. I have seen, first hand, how each and every resident is treated like family. The Executive Director, Jennifer Pasternak, goes the extra mile for the residents and her staff. I would recommend Northbrook Inn for any family looking for a safe and spirited environment for their loved one.

My uncle is a resident of Northbrook Inn. My brother and I have been taking care of him for years. He has Alzheimer’s but is in good shape physically and active. We chose Northbrook Inn after a referral from a family friend who ultimately decided her mom needed to stay in Milwaukee but was so impressed with Northbrook Inn she encouraged us to check it out. We had checked plenty of places and none of them felt right. We were super uncomfortable with putting him in Memory Care. But after meeting with Jen Pasternak and her team we trusted Jen and knew this would be a good place. After talking to Jen we stopped thinking of it as “putting him in” and began to think of it as protecting him and helping him improve his life. And that is exactly what happened. As Jen said, and we doubted but came to see, he has made friends, is much less frustrated and angry, and instead of sitting alone in his room he is out and about at Northbrook Inn. The change has been remarkable. Jen Pasternak is a terrific person, a truly kind and devoted leader of Northbrook Inn, and somebody I trust completely. Jen and her staff work all the time and are completely devoted to their residents. Two weeks ago, my uncle was hospitalized for the first time in his life. Being in the hospital is tough for anybody. For an elderly person with dementia it can be disastrous. During this time Jen was constantly available to talk to us, guide us, be a source of support and a resource. We were able to get him released and a week later he is doing remarkably well: he is talking, feeding himself and has a good appetite, and his memory is the same as it was. Tomorrow he is being evaluated for physical therapy. My uncle, myself and our entire family are profoundly grateful for the excellent care Northbrook Inn provides my uncle.

For better or worse, Ive had the experience of my parents residing in three care communities (all better than most). The Northbrook Inn is simply special. My first clue was simply walking inside the place -- its immaculate and beautiful, which is a clear refection of how the staff takes care of its residents. My second clue was when the Executive Director, Jennifer, told me to stop by anytime, especially unexpected, as that would be my best window into typical life at the Northbrook Inn. My mom lived there for a full year, unfortunately during Covid times. But, pre-Covid, I visited her almost every day, and got to know the team -- admin, caregivers, nurses, activity directors, maintenance, and dining -- as theyre all out-and-about, helpful, and friendly. My mom wasnt the easiest resident Im sure whom theyve taken care of. But, the love they showed and the kindness which each staff member displayed in each interaction that I observed was truly heartwarming and special. This is a true community -- not just for those who are fortunate that their loved ones chose it for them -- but also for those who work there. They care about each other and work together for the benefit of the residents. I couldnt possibly recommend Jennifer or her team more glowingly. Its my pleasure to do so, as Ill forever be grateful for how they took care of my mom and how Ive seen them take care of each and every one of their residents.

So many families are faced with the difficult decision to move their loved ones into a memory care facility. Dolly, Sharon, Karolee and the entire Northbrook Inn staff helped make this transition extremely easy. They took countless hours working with me as moving my Mother from her home was the hardest thing I ever had to do in my life. I visited several facilities before I made the decision to move my Mother into the Northbrook Inn Memory Care Community. I dont doubt my decision for a minute. The care they give my Mother is outstanding. In fact, and I quote my Mother, whatever they pay these people, they should pay them double. Thank you to ALL the Northbrook Inn caregivers. You give me the much needed peace knowing my Mother is in great hands. We are family now.
