I recently had a school project where I presented oral care education to the staff at this assisted living facility, and I had such a great experience. They were incredibly receptive from the start and immediately welcomed the opportunity to have me come in. The staff was very friendly, engaged, and genuinely interested in learning how to better care for their residents’ oral health. It was clear that they truly care about the people they serve and go above and beyond to support their overall well-being, including oral care. From what I observed, they do a wonderful job making sure their residents are well cared for in every aspect. I would absolutely recommend this facility to anyone looking for a place where residents are treated with kindness and attention.

My husband and I toured Independence Village of Waukee to see about his mother possibly moving into their community. We were very impressed with their facility. Alivia, who took us on the tour, was very friendly and thorough about details of living there. It was obvious as we toured that Alivia is liked by residents and people there appeared content and happy. The rooms were spacious with adequate closet and storage space. Alivia described numerous activities that their residents can do and be involved in. The price to live there is more reasonable and affordable compared to other retirement facilities we have toured. We would definitely recommend it to others looking for a place for their loved ones!

I recently visited with Brandon at the Waukee, IA location regarding a family member who is dealing with dementia. She lives several states away and up till now has been dependent on help from neighbors and friends. I was looking for advice on how best to arrange proper help for her. Brandon was more than willing to help answer my questions. He listened to me describe the situation and was glad to make phone calls on my behalf to some of the care agencies where my family member lives. Later than afternoon I received a call from one of those agencies who put me in contact with the right people who could help me. His assistance was exactly what I needed. In less than 2 days, thanks to Brandon taking the time to steer me in the right direction, I have arrived at what appears to be a workable solution in helping my family member receive the qualified assistance she needs. When I didn't know what to do or who to call, Brandon took over and introduced me to the right people! I can't thank Brandon enough for his understanding, professional guidance, time and willingness to help. I give him 10 stars out of 5!!!!! What a relief for me and my family to have met him!

It doesn't get any better than Independence Village. My mother came to for a respite visit. She has been treated like a Queen. The staff catered to her every need. She said it's like a family and everyone gets along very well. She had to go to the hospital and they brought her flowers. They have an ambassador program and they came to visit her, take her to lunch, and share the great services Independence Village offers.

My mother-in-law lived at Independence Village in Waukee. Although we were all worried about how she would make the transition, she soon made friends, involved herself in a multitude of activities and absolutely loved the staff. She has since passed away, but I have continued to volunteer some time in varied levels of care that they offer. Although I am impressed with the entire facility, I am particularly impressed with the long term skilled care unit. The staff is amazing, very cheerful and positive and genuinely cares for each individual resident. The activity director plans a multitude of activities to keep the residents active and social. She asked me to bring my alpacas to visit with the residents as they were celebrating Farmer’s Day ( which included grilling burgers outside in the garden!). She even found a way to include those residents that couldn’t come outside to participate. In other words, she went overboard to ensure that everyone was included and had a great day! Kudos to Independence Village! 5/5 stars from me! Luanne Sellner

As a recent short term (2 week) rehabilitation patient of Independence Village Rehabilitation Center. I would like the community of Waukee Iowa and surrounding area to realize what a true asset you have available to you right at your finger tips. From the initial interview with Lauren who came right to the hospital to meet with me, to Drew the Ambassador who met me at the door upon my arrival with a warm welcome. I knew I had made the right decision. The care was outstanding. Each person on the care team from Shelly Social Services, My Speech and Physical Therapy team of Shannon PT, Angela PT, Leigh PT, Janice RN, Sally RN Omar CNA, Jasmine CNA and Jason CNA all very kind caring and supportive of my emotional and rehabilitative needs. Dietary Housekeeping and laundry all exceptional and very cognizant of my likes and always checking with me regarding my food, cleanliness of my room and clothing to make sure I was satisfied with the services or if there was anything they could do to improve my stay. Absolutely TOP NOTCH employees. Every aspect of my healing journey was planned coordinated and carried out with professional courtesy. Each member is hardworking and each planned exercise was followed thru to the letter. What a true Gem you have! I am so much better because of you! I am feeling stronger and more confident in my recovery everyday, because of you. As the saying goes "It takes a village" and I say "It takes Independence Village" to return my independent life to me. I am so Thankful to each and every one of you. Caregivers are lovely - smiling and caring. Our mother has developed a connection of joy and friendship with staff. Management personnel went out of their way to initially meet our assisted living needs and then, when a higher level of care (Skilled Nursing) was needed, was dedicated to making sure Mom’s needs were met. We are grateful to the Executive Director, Housing Manager, Activities Directors, Nurses, and all staff for their continued commitment to Mom’s wellbeing!

Based on the first day/intake yesterday into the Skilled Care wing, we are SUPER impressed. The facility is very clean, no smells whatsoever (and I'm a hyper smell sensitive migraneur), the staff were *all* smiling and super friendly and seemingly happy. They all treated my mother with kindness and respect and were so helpful. Her room, while very basic, was very clean and nice. She didn't seem terribly upset at all whilst we were there, and based on the obvious situation of *no one* choosing to be in skilled care, really acclimated well. If anything changes, I'll update. Only gave 4 stars since its not even been 24 hours. 🙂 Once she's there for a while, I'll come back and update accordingly.

In January of 2022 I moved my mother to Skilled Nursing at Independence Village of Waukee. As a part of the move I wanted a small storage area for the items that would not fit in her room and I was not ready to part with or distribute to other family members. It was understood that storage was not something normally provided with a room in Skilled nursing, but they agreed to make a storage area available and provided me with a key. My mother received excellent care. The staff was friendly, attentive and provided regular updates on my mothers status and needs. I would give the care 5 stars. The management not so much. The initial billing was frustrating. Tried to get auto payment setup and Independence Village could not get it the first time. I also had to repeatedly ask for copies of statements so I could submit for long term care insurance. The management suggested they could file the insurance, but with the inability to provide timely statements I did not trust them to file the claims. Mom passed away on 9/19/2023. On 9/21 I was encouraged to get her personal items removed from the room by 9/22. While they were polite about it, and willing to provide some grace time, it was readily apparent they wanted the room immediately. When the final statement was presented it was for the correct dollar amount, but was for 9/1-9/30. That would have made the daily rate incorrect for insurance. As a part of removing her personal items I went to the storage closet only to find it empty. All of the items I thought I had safely stored away had been removed and dumped 6 months prior. All without notice as they did not know whose belongings they were. I immediately went to the Business Manager to find out what had happened to my mothers belongings and what was going to be done about it. The Business Manager said she was new to the facility (within the past 9 months) and she would need to check with corporate. Despite repeated attempts to contact the Business Manager in the past 2 months via Text, Phone Calls and stopping in, there has been no response. The Business Manager is the only one with access to their calendar so making an appointment is impossible. Not returning calls appears to be a corporate culture as I have also left messages with StoryPoint and have not received a call back. Needless to say I am less than impressed with the management team. Care-5 Stars Management-0 Stars.

I had experience with a few places back east with my grandparents and while thinking about bringing out my father to Iowa, I was worried about what to expect since my previous interactions in Jersey were not great. But i visited Independence Village and its so wonderful. The staff are so very friendly and really care about each person there! Like seriously! It’s never the easiest time for a family but i feel comfortable recommending Independence Village as a place where my father will be cared for and flourish!

My mom was a resident of Legacy Point (now Independence Villages) Waukee for many years. She received top tier care from her care providers in the assisted living and long term care areas of the facility. Irena, Maria, Jenn Noel, Karen and her team on the assisted side along with Lanny, Jesse and their teams on skilled and long term care, and physical therapy department, plus so many I’ve missed naming went above and beyond in their care for mom. Caring and dedicated workers are what prompts me to write this 5 star review. Our family is grateful to you. Thank you and God Bless all of the workers, residents and many friends mom made there. My mom was blessed to get her care there and it was a blessing to our family. This past year has been exceptionally difficult, thanks for making the best possible during this time.

Independence Village is a great place to live. The apartments are spacious, beautiful and bright. The staff are friendly, courteous and helpful. I know these things because my brother has lived at Independence Village for 3 years. He has made wonderful new friends there. There are plenty of activities to participate in also. As a family member I have been invited to many of their holiday parties and social gatherings. And there are many amenities that I haven’t mentioned, so check out this wonderful retirement facility.

We put my dad in there after complications with a surgery. The staff during the week is fantastic and kept me in the loop with all of his treatments and their plans. The director of nursing and his staff were VERY helpful and very understanding. The only complaints my dad has is that the food is always cold by the time it gets to him and the weekend staff isn’t as good as the weekday staff.

Legacy Point in Waukee Ia offers one room for visitation for a limit of four residents per day by hiding behind the COVID excuse. The facility his huge but chooses to limit visitation with this excuse. What is the difference between this and prison? $$$. These inmates lived through the the Depression and WWII but this isolation is worse because it is arbitrarily imposed by the facility they are paying handsomely to incarcerate them. Legacy point will forever be a legacy of shame. May God have mercy on your soles.
