Visited Story Point in Urbandale, met with Brandon was impressed with the time that he took answering all of my questions and providing detailed information about all aspects of the facility and care that is provided to the residents. The facility is very clean, the environment was calm and peaceful, all of the staff that I met on my tour was very friendly and kind. If you are looking for memory care for a loved one, I would strongly encourage you to add this facility to your list.

I recently had a tour of the Glen Oaks Alzheimer’s Special Care Center. My tour guide was Brandon Comer, the Community Relations Director. I was very impressed by what I learned. The facility was clean, there are many daily activities for the residents and the staff were plentiful. When the time comes, it will be a perfect fit.

I cannot express enough how grateful I am for the exceptional care my grandma received at Glen Oaks. From the moment she arrived, the staff welcomed her with open arms and treated her like family. The facility is immaculate, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it feel like a true home away from home. The nursing staff is incredibly attentive and compassionate. They went above and beyond to ensure my grandma's comfort and well-being. They took the time to get to know her personally, understanding her likes, dislikes, and daily routines. This personalized care made a significant difference in her quality of life. The activities and social programs offered are outstanding especially the activities director. My grandma always had something to look forward to, whether it was a group exercise class, a craft session, or simply chatting with friends in the beautiful common areas. The sense of community and camaraderie among the residents is heartwarming. Overall, Glen Oaks exceeded all our expectations. The peace of mind knowing my grandma is in such capable and loving hands is priceless. I wholeheartedly recommend this nursing home to anyone seeking the best possible care for their loved ones. Five stars all the way!

My father-in-law was a resident at the Glen Oaks care center, unfortunately for only a few weeks before he passed. If you are looking for an Alzheimer's care facility, I would definitely recommend Glen Oaks. Though it's not perfect, it is very good overall. The facility is attractive and well-maintained (feels more like a home than a medical facility), it is managed well, and the staff are attentive and caring.

Our mother was there for one week when we decided even though she needs extended care this was not the place for her. After 5 days we knew the staff was not going to give her the attention she deserved or needed when we moved her here. We created quite a stir and the staff said that we were moving her to a place that would not be able to take care of her. Honestly, I don't think any of these facilities are staffed up with the right people, or the right amount of care takers and nurses to take care of individuals with Alzheimer's. It takes a very special person and a very special staff.

Administrative changes and frequent turnover has once again compromised the efficacy of Glen Oaks CARE center. I am a family member of a current resident. I have taken time to carefully read the reviews posted on this site and My impression was similar .... The location is great. Building and grounds are meticulously maintained. Meals are ample and nutritional balanced. Activities are well planned and Administrative staff appear caring and capable. It is for these reasons our family chose Glen Oaks memory Center with confidence that our loved ones will be cared for and safe, and treated with Dignity. It is unfortunate that staffing issues have (again) become evident. Apparently frequent turnover is commonplace here and has no doubt compromised All things including resident care. The current Health Services Director is, in my opinion, Warm, caring and friendly. It appears she works hard and does her best. For the Most part nurses remain focused and professional in spite of the stress of being short staffed and perhaps over extended. However there are exceptions and I have personally witnessed insubordination and inappropriate behavior in a most unprofessional manner by one of the floor nurses at Glen Oaks .(not the first time)The circumstance was so egregious that it has been escalated to a higher authority. Time will tell if this and other matters of concern are addressed and resolved. In the meantime I realize that it has become necessary for me to focus attention on the CARE and wellbeing of my loved ones as they are my concern . With regards to senior care facilities in general my experience is that no place is perfect ....And some facilities are better than others. Glen Oaks has good potential and my hope is that "the powers that be " do what's necessary to staff efficiently, provide coaching when necessary and support key staffers who add value to your organization. (and earn back a 5 star rating) As concerned family members we have an obligation to Trust, but we must also verify.

I want to make this 4 1/2 stars but the system won't let me. My mother-in-law, who I have Power of Attorney, has resided at Glen Oaks just over three years. In the first year we saw some turnover at the top and other positions. It has leveled out and the staff is fairly consistent. They are very friendly to visitors/family and any of ours who have visited are very impressed with the staff and the building. I know that it is not an easy job dealing with adults have lost their memory. The patience and humor that I have witnessed has made me happy that she is there. I know that I am welcome to come in and visit any time. The food has improved under Amber, the head of food services, and I am glad that she was promoted to that position.

As a nurse and a being my Aunt's representative I have been so impressed with the facility and the staff. The always take time to talk with family. As I was taking my first tour they introduced me to the residents that we encountered. There whole philosophy of meeting persons with dementia in their world creates security for the residents. It is a home! There is a nurse on 24 hrs a day and a member of management present every day. This exceeds regulations and what you will find in most other facilities.

Glen Oaks was my home away from home. My mom, who was diagnosed with early onset dementia, lived there for 3 years. The staff are exceptional and care very deeply about every resident. They communicated amazingly, gave me their time without making appointments, and would always get me involved in coming up with interventions to make it a safe environment for her. I want to thank the staff for supporting my family and loving my mom like she was one of their own.

My father-in-law was at this community for a little over a year. It was clean every time we went to visit him. I did notice sometimes on Sunday mornings it would smell when we walked by certain rooms when we were picking him up for church. We just figured it is a normal part of life. When we would return him after going out for church and lunch the smells were gone. We all liked the nurses and staff at Glen Oaks. They made it a point to say hi and talk to us and my father-in-law. When we would ask him how things were going, he would tell us how nice they all were and how they brought snacks to his room in between meals. Needless to say, he didn't lose any weight while he was there and actually ended up gaining weight. We had to get him bigger pants twice! Overall the care he received was top notch, and we couldn't have asked for a better place or caregivers for him. I have referred Glen Oaks to friends whose parents or relatives are in need of Alzheimer's care and I will continue to refer people to them.
