I have been visiting this facility for many years now and have seen many many changes. The changes in management recently have been the best by far! You can really see how the appreciation and respect for management vs workers have vastly improved! Which in turn bring much needed peace to the facilities atmosphere and happier residents!

My experience with Legacy Assisted Living lasted almost one year”long enough to see patterns of operation, disruption, and variability in care. The short story is this: there is likely no place that fully meets the expectations of the heart. The longer story is that people considering assisted living may want to ask more questions than the ones typically offered at the outset. Anyone considering Legacy may want to visit at different times of day and night. Watch staff interactions over time. Ask leadership about turnover”both at the caregiver level and at the corporate level. Research company ownership at the top of the house. Ask about failures and what is actually being done to improve them. Taste the food”not once, but repeatedly. While this is billed as an assisted living facility, there are real limitations driven by chronic understaffing. I can’t speak for other residents, but for my mother, her daily routine was often governed by staffing constraints rather than her needs. Resident Assistants routinely worked double shifts. The same RA staff responsible for helping residents get up and dressed were also required to serve as dining room staff. As a result, mornings felt rushed and abrupt, with little time for gentleness or care. If a resident was not ambulatory and required meals to be delivered to their room, they were served last”consistently. Breakfast arrived cold. Meals felt like the last sandwich made. Chips were literally the broken bits at the bottom of the bag. That became the routine. I augmented care by installing a camera in my mother’s room, which I strongly recommend. Monitoring was both reassuring and heartbreaking. I watched my mother nearly fall when a single caregiver attempted a transfer alone, likely because staffing levels were too low to provide proper assistance. Turnover was constant and visible. During this period, Med Techs quit. RAs quit. The cook quit. Several caregivers openly cried about the lack of operational support and exhaustion. At one point, director-level emails sent to resident families were unusually transparent about corporate-level operational failures. Eventually, a team from corporate leadership was sent to Athens to rebuild. Notably, the person sent to lead that effort came from the acquisitions side of the business and openly acknowledged being outside his lane. There were a few individuals whose care and kindness consistently rose above the system, and for them I am genuinely grateful. So the real consideration for anyone evaluating this facility is expectation. There are no good choices in this situation. The circumstances are often impossible, and most people arrive exhausted and doing the best they can with incomplete information. The question becomes what conditions are acceptable. Is it acceptable if medication is several hours late? Is it acceptable if meals are served in Styrofoam containers with plastic utensils when brought to a room? Is it acceptable if breakfast arrives cold and meals resemble the last sandwich made, with chips from the bottom of the bag? Is it acceptable if turnover is constant? Is it acceptable if a loved one is abruptly dressed at 5 a.m. so staff can get to the dining room? If those conditions are acceptable, Legacy may be an appropriate choice.

Although I was pleased with the facility and level of care, getting a refund for 2595$ has been like pulling teeth. My husband has been dead 3 and a half months and I have not been reimbursed. There is nobody here who can write you a check, the people who can are in some other place and almost impossible to reach. I am really upset about it and wonder if they are doing it on purpose.

My loved one was a resident at Legacy Village of Athens for 6 months. She started off in Assisted Living then moved over to the Memory Care wing. The level of care they provided was priceless. The attention to detail, the cleanliness, the activities, the food, the communication, all of it.....top notch! From the Executives, front desk, nurses, aides, activities director, chef to the housekeeping staff, I was definitely impressed and I highly recommend this facility to be your loved ones home away from home.

The staff at St. Gabriel's is caring, compassionate, and committed to go over and beyond to meet your loved ones needs. My Father is being cared for and loved by all those on his team. The administrative team made the admissions process an enjoyable experience, rather than a miserable memory. My Daddy has been pleased with his meals, and the individual attention everyone has afforded him. Amanda, Walter, Sasha, and Faye are bringing a smile each day, so you will choose to call St. Gabriel's your home away from home.
