The community is clean, it has incredible amenities, and everyone I met from the concierge, to Omar at valet service, to the dining room crew all knew mine and my father in laws names after just a day or two of us getting him settled in. They welcomed him in with open arms and I am without a doubt certain he is in such good hands. I feel very blessed to have him there.

I have been in Holbrook of Decatur Assisted Living since December 2022. I am very happy with my life here. I get three meals a day, basic weekly housekeeping and assistance with dressing and showering. The activities are varied and numerous, outings mostly to lunch at local restaurants but also to the holiday lights, a boat ride, a train ride and there is live music several times a month in the lobby. The outdoor courtyard is nice for sitting and for having seasonal events. There is a large salt water pool and and a hydro-pool, a therapy pool with a moving bottom for walking treadmill style. As with many similar facilities, staffing is a continuing problem and they are doing their utmost to change this. There is a great PT/OT/Voice Therapy group--TransPerfect and an in-house PCP clinic--Ascend. Holbrook also has a special program for those with some dementia who are in assisted living but not ready for Memory Care.

My sister and I had to move our Father into memory care. It was such a hard decision, but the staff at Holbrook made us realize it was the right decision and the right place for him. The staff has been amazing. They do everything to make the facility feel like home. The courtyard has beautiful flowers and plants where they can get outside, they sing, there's music always playing, and lots of laughter. We always feel welcome when we come visit and Dad seems to have adjusted really well.

She's always clean and dressed nicely with matching jewelry. There's a lot of activities every day to keep the residents occupied if they want to participate. My Mom lived at Holbrook of Decatur for the last 3 years of her long life. The last two years were in Inspired Living (memory care). The care and love shown to her while in their care was all I could ask for. Elder care is a calling and is challenging. Mom was so grateful for the care provided to her by any and all the staff. She was kind and cooperative and was shown the same in equal measure. I was visiting 2-3 times a week, so was pretty aware of how things were going. Everyone was very receptive to our requests and observations. My learning experience during all of this is that care for our aging loved ones is a team effort. The more involved anyone can be with knowledge of the care plan and execution, the better for your family and the staff. The team at Holbrook of Decatur cares greatly and works tirelessly to provide loving care.

We had to move our loved one within the community to a higher level of care. As they say success flows from the top down. The director of Inspired Living truly cares about her job, her staff and most importantly her residents. Her influence over the community ensures that the everyone that is part of the community lives up to her standards, which is to provide not only top notch level of care, but also to provide the residents their dignity. All staff outwardly strive to provide the best care and assistance to the residents. They will literally rush to assist and safety is the top priority. The commitment of the staff is exemplified by the fact that many of the staff have been there for years. Also, it is great to witness a staff whom interact with the residents in a loving manner. They fill the mornings with appropriate activities and leave no resident out. My mother had never taken advantage of the activities and community in previous living situations but now she is engaged in them. I look forward to continuing to collaborate with the staff in Inspired Living

Had a wonderful experience there today. This was my 1st time there. Everyone was super polite, helpful. From the employee I met in the underground garage who told me how to find the elevator to the folks at the front desk to the staff members on the memory care unit. The medication nurse answered my questions about the residents' meds. The director took time to research needed info on her computer. The atmosphere was joyful and the patients all seemed comfortable. No one was screaming or crying out as we sometimes encounter in some memory care units. No malodour. Everything was clean and the atmosphere was cheerful. Great 1st time experience. Thanks to all the staff who were so welcoming.

My mother has been in the memory care wing of Holbrook of Decatur for over a year and we have been very pleased. The facilities are beautiful and kept immaculate. The staff is what sets Holbrook apart especially in the memory care unit. They treat my mother and me as family. The Director is always checking in on us. The individual caregivers are special!! They notice the little things. Know when my mother is not herself or tired which can be challenging as she doesn't speak much. We have two parents living at Holbrook, each receiving a different level of care”one in memory care and the other in assisted living. They relocated here after previously living in another senior community in Atlanta. Overall, the staff at Holbrook has been very attentive and approachable. We did experience some challenges with medication management early on, but after several productive meetings with the management and care teams, those issues were resolved. One piece of advice I’d strongly emphasize: get to know the staff, especially in memory care. Building those relationships makes a big difference. Even with professional care in place, it’s so important to stay involved in your parents’ lives and be an advocate when needed.

I had been so afraid for my Mom, both before and after my Dad's passing. She fell in my house and needed staples. Now my Mom is somewhere that is fully staffed, where everyone always seems happy. My Mom is cared for, engaged, I know she gets her pill, and I know she eats. I LOVE HOLBROOK. Since 2021, both of my parents have lived at Holbrook at various points in all three levels of living: independent, enriched (assisted), and inspired (memory care). There is such a gap between the beautiful appearance and amenities at Holbrook and the mediocre level of care experienced by residents. Appearances and profit come first at Holbrook. Caregiving is an afterthought. 10% rent increases have happened every year, yet care and services have not improved. My sense is that Holbrook is far from the worst option out there, but that's not saying much at all: the median level of care in all these places is not good. So definitely moderate your expectations from the feeling you get from the sales team. Once you've paid the steep entrance fee and your loved ones move in, my experience as a family member has been that e-mails go unanswered. Phone calls and e-mails go unreturned. Voicemail boxes are full. My parents are not wealthy, yet I quickly found that I needed to hire a (wonderful) social worker to help me advocate for my parents--at considerable expense. When my Mom was in assisted living, we spent $75/month on a pendant that was often useless. My parent would push the button, and nobody would come until the next legally-required check--one or two hours later. Medication management in assisted living works OK until a change is needed (a new presciption is introduced, meds need to be changed or temporarily witheld prior to a procedure). Doctor's orders are sent, and then received, but the caregivers either aren't informed of the changes or don't read the notes in the file to make adjustments. Communication and care coordination among the workers in assisted living is subpar, which makes any changes difficult, like taking your loved one on a trip for a few days and needing the meds (start working on it at least a week in advance; they'll tell you that they won't dispense it until the day of your departure, but if you wait until then, you may encounter someone who does not know how/whether they are allowed to dispense the meds for your vacation). I've eaten many times with my parents in the independent living dining room, where turnover has been quite high. They struggle to find and retain servers, and on at least three occasions, it took 20-30 minutes to have a server come over to take our order. It's not the workers' fault; it's the company's inability to hire enough workers and pay a living wage. The key word here is inconsistency: sometimes things go smoothly; a lot of other times they don't. Consistency is important for many seniors, my father especially, and this place is anything but consistent. Assisted living has gone without its own dedicated director for months and months at a time. There ARE some good folks working here on the front-lines. Memory care has better caregivers and retention seems higher there than in assisted living. But the good folks here are up against a management team and a corporate culture that is more dedicated to empty rhetoric and profit making than their professed mission.

The Holbrook Decatur is not in compliance with ADA laws for elevator outages in assisted living facilities. The elevator has been out for over a month. There is no signage to reroute or assistance getting to the other elevator (which is on the other side of the building) for people with mobility issues. My dad calls down for assistance getting downstairs and no one comes. He fainted on the first floor, and I couldn't get any assistance. This is unacceptable.

Our good friend, Bruce, was interested in considering an active senior community so we stopped in to check out Holbrook. From our first visit, throughout move-in and during his residency, the entire staff, particularly Alex and Alexa, were stellar. Alexa went out of her way to visit Bruce daily. The vivacious events leader, Jen, insured, a smooth transition into the community. This mattered so much to us as Bruce was originally reluctant to leave his home. Once he moved in, Bruce quickly realized he was amongst friends and everybody including residents, and staff alike, treated him like family. The staff paid exceptional attention to detail. They would notice when Bruce was out of sorts, or potentially, had an illness, quite before his doctors could recognize the problem. I signed lease Nov 15 for 1 bedroom/1bath apartment. It's awesome. Moved in Nov 30 after repainting/cleaning/new flooring. Alex and Alexus very involved and helpful. Some issues had to go to "corporate" which added delay. Seemed to me on-site managers should have more autonomy. Facility is amazing and has everything. Residents are wonderfully friendly, open and inclusive. Lots of activities every day. Activities Director Jen is fantastic and has boundless energy. One would have to work hard at being bored or lonely. When you join Holbrook Decatur AP, you become part of a true community.

I like that everything is in the building I can get a massage and Physical therapy here in Holbrook. I really enjoy the meals here it really is like a nice hotel set up. Everyone here is very accommodating and very friendly, the tenants and staff. Alex and & Alexus made me feel welcome immediately. The move in process was very smooth. My son had no complaints. Jennifer the activity coordinator is fantastic! I enjoy the activities with bingo & cards. My housekeeper Sherlander is friendly, gets here on time. She cleans up very nicely after me. My mom lived at Holbrook in assisted living for a little over a year until she passed away in June. We moved her to Atlanta to be closer to family. When we were looking for a place, Holbrook stood out. The place is beautiful with tons of amenities. But much more important than that are the people. My mom had a group of caregivers who truly showed her love as her health deteriorated. They took great care of her and cried with us when she passed away. I will forever be grateful for all they did for our family during the worst time. Because of our experience with my mom, when my father-in-law was looking for assisted living, he also chose Holbrook. He has been there for a couple months and is taking advantage of many of the groups and outings available and happy with his choice. The community is beautiful, and the staff is exceptionally warm and accommodating to my mom’s needs and concerns. The apartments are spacious with wonderful views and the residents are offered an array of amenities, services and daily activities to ensure their comfort and well-being. The dining options are excellent and varied and can be personalized to meet a resident’s needs and expectations. Such a beautiful establishment! I came for a spa service (60 mins massage) and left extremely pleased. I will definitely be back. After signing in at the front desk, I was greeted at the entrance by my massage therapist, Fransa, who then escorted me to the massage room while also showing me other spa services that were available to me that day as a client. The full body, deep tissue massage was excellent, with focus on my neck, upper back and shoulders where I needed it most. I get massages frequently, and this one was thorough and relaxing. I arrived having difficulty turning my neck from left to right, and left with full range of motion. I will be back and I highly recommend you book your appointment as well. Fransa has healing fingers.

During my husband's 1 year at Holbrook, the care and attention he received was truly excellent! Our experience in this lovely community was warm and inviting. His caregivers were always available and glad to help him. Because of the many activities available in assisted living, he was able to enjoy the pool, paint and create in art classes, play games and exercise daily with new friends he made. In Jennifer's Parkinson's Support Group, my husband found others who shared his personal experience and goals. There was a variety of good live entertainment that he especially enjoyed. The Concierge staff, Rorie, Gary and Terry, were always helpful to me and to my husband, as was valet attendant Omar, who assisted in getting him safely in and out of the car when we went out. When it was time to leave Holbrook, the Move-In Manager Nascine helped tremendously and enabled our departure to be an efficient and smooth one for us.

Coney, the waiter, is much more than someone who can bring you food and drinks to you. He is thoughtful, kind, efficient, friendly, professional and just simply extraordinary!!! We were impressed during our tour here. The lobby is gorgeous, gym and pool lovely, apartment nice size, and services offered seemed excellent. We were fooled by all this. Immediately after move-in we learned how poorly managed this place is. Their assisted living team does not offer much assistance, including when you push the help button. They will charge you for ADLs but only provide assistance once or twice a week when they feel like it. They didn’t check in medications to ensure we had everything needed on arrival and subsequently we had to scramble to get a prescription filled ourselves. They lost some medication because no one communicated from day team to night team. Most terrifying is the people handing out medication aren’t knowledgeable about what they are administering leading to a near fatal medication error. The General Manager was not apologetic or even concerned as we were to learn of the medication error. They just fired the individual, but ignored the systemic issue. The COO Vickie Curl told me they would investigate and get back with us, but never followed up. CEO Al Holbrook ignored our emails about the near fatal medication error completely. They do not care about preventing medication errors or improving systemic problems within their community. The dining room staff do not pay attention to dietary restrictions (low carb, low salt, etc). During our time here they got cheap with the food (poor quality ingredients). They only care about $, not their residents.

My father has been in the memory care unit of Holbrook Decatur for 2 1/2 months, after spending a short time in their assisted living apartments. From the minute he became a resident in assisted living, up to moving to memory care, the staff has been professional, caring and always strive to keep my dad's and all residents' wellbeing and dignity at the forefront. Not only are the caregivers wonderful, all of the employees in the building- the head of the memory care unit, concierges, community relations personnel, medical professionals, cleaning staff, front of the building management, and anyone else whom I've met, are all friendly and go out of their way to be of help or to just provide a friendly hello. I feel extremely lucky to have my father in such capable and caring hands. I highly recommend Holbrook of Decatur for assisted living or if your loved one needs more care, the memory unit.

My mother spent 2 1/2 years at Holbrook, first in assisted living (Engaged Living is their term) and then for the last 14 months in full-time care (Inspired Living). As she declined mentally, the most crucial qualities to her were kindness, affection, and love. This meant that the people around her made all the difference. And the staff in Inspired Living were wonderful; this includes everyone, starting with the director on down. The warmth and care that they showed my mother meant everything. She felt safe and loved. After being there for awhile, I came to feel a genuine sense of community. I visited frequently, and so they all came to know me and show me warmth as well. It never felt like a duty or like a show; it was real.

The entire staff, from food servers to nurses to management have been kind, friendly and always helpful. Holbrook is an elegant facility, and Mom is very proud of where she lives.The management and staff of Enriched Living work with us as a team to ensure that Mom is safe and cared for, while helping her to maintain a sense of independence. My 98 year old mother moved to Holbrook of Decatur on one of the enriched (assisted living floors). The facility is lovely with lots of amenities and her apartment was spacious. She was able to bring her own furniture which made her feel more at home. The staff were so nice including Felicia, LaToya and the rest of the care team. They gave me helpful advice as I navigated what services my mom needed as her health declined. At the end, they worked closely with Vitas Hospice (a wonderful hospice provider) staff to make mom was comfortable and was able to pass on peacefully. I will always appreciate the care the staff gave mom.

The person at the front desk from Chicago, IL per her name tag, could be a bit less rude and a little more patient. I was delivering for instacart. I was looking down to tell her who I was delivering to. She answered the phone while I wasn't looking without telling or asking me to hold on. When I looked up she had her finger in the air. Once I told her who I was delivering for she told me the gentleman does the deliveries. I attempted to ask a question and she repeated herself before I could. I then asked my question-did I need to write a tag. I could barely get it out before she told me he would deliver and just tell him where it was going. Then he asked before she could even finish. A displeasing exchange.

5 stars for my wonderful housekeeper Jacinta Jones. I look forward to her weekly visits since I know my apartment will sparkle when she's done. Jacinta arrives with her cheerful smile and does a great job of cleaning the bathroom and kitchen, changing and washing the sheets and towels, vacuuming, mopping, and taking the trash. When I arrived I was unable to move my feet and legs off the floor. I've had very good therapy here both OT & PT. The CNAs have been very great and very responsive to my wishes once I make them known. I arrived at the beginning of the lockdown because of the virus, they provided lots of activities for us to do and supplied entertainment for us so we didn't just sit in our apartments.
